There was a soft impact in the ground not too far from the shinobi that walked by himself through the woods. The bushy headed, black haired teenager glanced about and then peered through the leaves. He spotted a young deer grazing in a small clearing, not too far from him. It was a three point buck and was not that big. The shinobi thought that the buck could only be a couple of years old.
Zinan smiled. The wildlife here was much the same as it was in the Fire Country. He passed through the Frost Country a few days ago and the northern portion of the Hot Springs Country a little after that. He was currently walking through the Rice Country and wondered if the Village Hidden in the Sound was nearby. He shrugged. It did not matter to him, in all actuality; he just wanted to get home and resume his normal training regimen. All this travel training was not what he preferred, though it was good for him to change his normal practices.
Zinan wondered if having a squad would make training easier. He often wondered when he would be assigned to a squad; being a floating ninja was tiresome and did not do him well in missions. If he had two other shinobi to work with, he would be able to build a rhythm with them and increase their effectiveness. He was a supportive fighter and fared better with a team.
What would be better is a hands-on type of mentor. His current sensei was no better than an Academy Instructor. He had several students and rarely met them in person. He communicated via messages more than anything and did not assist with the actual training of his students. It would make Zinan a happy guy if the Hokage paired him with a quality sensei. It would make him even happier if the Hokage paired him with a quality sensei and a team to work with.
Zinan shrugged again. He was doing that a lot lately, he noted; shrugging. He stood up from his crouched position, but continued to look at the deer. The young buck noticed him at this point in time and stood still. The deer stared at Zinan, with his eyes wide, but did not moved. Zinan, not wanting the deer to become a meal for a predator, lightly kicked a small pebble in the general direction of the buck. The noise of it bouncing off of a tree startled the deer and sprang off through the underbrush. Zinan smiled; he could have killed the buck and used its meat and hide as dinner and trade goods, but that style of hunting did not suit him. He preferred to set traps and lay in wait. Plus, he still had trail rations left in his pack.
The shinobi, after a cursory glance around his surroundings, leaped into the tree tops. He noted the terrain and smiled; he was on the right course. The grasslands of the Rice Country were to his right, meaning north was to his right. The forests that fill the Fire Country were to his left, which he knew was to the south of the Rice Country. He just needed to veer slightly to his left and he would be headed directly into the heart of the land of Fire. Konoha wouldn’t be too much further along after that. Zinan knew that he had a river or two to cross, which should be fine, as long as the bridges were not flooded. He was almost to Konoha. He was almost home.
