Trilby broke the wax seal on the scroll, a large D etched on it's surface. Rolling it out across the table, he learned of the nature of his mission. "A boy trapped in a well? Really? For the love of... Ok, let's get this over with." he muttered to himself, opening the door to his small apartment and heading south.
It was not long before Trilby reached the location his orders had mentioned, a small crowd had gathered around the derelict old well, including the boy's parents. "I understand you're in need of some assistance?" Trilby asked as he surveyed the situation. The well opening was wide enough for him to enter, but it narrowed halfway down, too tight for someone of his size to make it through. "How long has he been down there?" Trilby asked, facing the small group of people standing around the well. A woman's voice rose above the noise, sorrow seeping through her words. "Three days. He was playing and he fell in. We can't reach him. Please, you have to help!" "Do you know how deep it is?" "No" Trilby sighed and looked around for a branch or a pole, anything he could use to set on fire, to gauge the depth. He eventually found a large branch. He tore off part of his sleeve and wrapped it around the branch, before setting it ablaze with his lighter and returning back to the well.
Down the fiery branch fell, a good 20 feet before it hit the ground, illuminating the area around it. He could faintly make out a boy curled up near the branch, who wasn't responding to his shouts. He was either dead or unconscious, either way, Trilby had no choice but to go down and find out for himself. The well was barren, and it was clear it hadn't been used for water in a long time. With no way to expand the well entrance, his only choice was to bypass it. It was possible, since it hadn't been used for water in a long time, that it could be connected to the manhole system under the city.
After a few minutes of searching the nearby streets, Trilby found a manhole entrance at last. drawing his lighter, he lowered himself into the darkness and headed in the direction of the well. It was dark and cold, with a rather putrid smell in the air. He could barely see with only his lighter to guide him, but he pressed on regardless. After a few minutes of walking, he could see faint glimpses of light in the distance, heading towards it he could eventually make out the figure of a child, hunched over by a now burnt out torch.
Running over to the boy, Trilby found he was cold to the touch, but still breathing, thankfully. His leg was clearly broken, with the bone poking through the surface of the skin. Grabbing him up in his arms, he ran back towards the manhole that he came in through, the boy moaning in his arms, probably from the pain of being forced to move around. It didn't take long for him to reach the manhole, but it was clearly too awkward for him to climb out while holding the boy. "Hmm... if I can't carry you out, I'll just have to use a different method." Trilby muttered to himself, as he put the boy over his shoulder, freeing his arms up enough to form a handseal. "Shunshin no Jutsu!"
Now on the surface, Trilby carried the boy to the nearest hospital as fast as he could. A broken leg, hypothermia and a few broken ribs was the final verdict. Recovery would take a long time, but he would live.
