Mission name: Explore the Land of Fire.
Mission rank: D-rank.
Objective: Explore the country, anywhere you want, and make maps of the places you go.
Location: Hi no Kuni.
Reward: 100 Ryo.
Mission description: The administration building is extending their records of the country's geography and they need people to work as cartographers and make the maps for them.
Mission Details: Explore anywhere you want in the whole country, you just have to make a map of wherever you go.

First mission, first mission. Boy was I pumped. But of course, it was a simple one for me to start off with; Still being pretty fresh out of the academy and all. I was excited, exhilarated even just to get out the door and rush into the forest surrounding Konohagakure. But I had to remain as patient as possible so other villagers wouldn't call me insane for running out into the middle of who knows what. After showing my registration for my mission to the guards protecting the village, I casually sauntered out into the forest. Explore the country and make a map, it all felt so incredibly simple to do, and I somehow, I didn't mind at all. Some would say, I just don't care. But I did care, to an extent. It was just merely not something I would focus on. My mere participation level would be what would really count. If I were to simply hand them a piece of paper that even a young academy student could do better when given a go at it, then they might as well just tell me I need to go back to the academy.

I had chosen the dense forest that surrounded Konoha. While they had warned me that it might have been a bit too dangerous for a genin like me, I assured them I could handle it. After several minutes of awkward conversation. It was about 10 minutes into said forest area, and none of it seemed very worthy of mapping. It was simply trees, trees, and more trees. Eventually, I came across a large cave, I sat on a nearby rock and began to sketch the village in the middle, then this region of the dense forest. Thankful for memory, I managed to sketch most of the area around the cave, and the cave entrance itself. The scroll I was given wasn't exactly the easiest thing to sketch upon, and I spent minutes just sketching over parts I had already sketched over just before. Soon after I finished, I began to wander off further into the forest, but I was stopped soon after by growling noises, I turned slowly, my eyes narrowing onto the creatures in front of me. Wolves, pretty big ones too. Note to self, this is a wolf den. Another note to self, run like there's no tomorrow; because there might not be if you don't start moving. I did what I had to, I ran like it was the only thing I could do. I took another mental note.

There were at least four wolves chasing me, and they were closing in faster than I could run. Don't fail me academy training! Why were they even chasing me?! Was it because I hugged my mother this morning?! Is it just because she's basically a cat!? There were hundreds of low hanging trees, but they wouldn't exactly save me if they could jump up and bite my butt off. Just before I gave up and jumped into a lower tree, I caught sight of a much bigger tree. However, at this point, I couldn't run anymore and I stopped. And there I stood, surrounded by all the wolves. The wolves of the forest were often described as about as strong as a genin or more. Welp, there went quick win. I was still quite weak, and defeating a wolf estimated to be as strong as a genin would prove difficult.

The closed in on me. No. I was not dying today! I backed into a shorter tree. They growled louder and louder. I gulped loudly and almost felt as if I was going to die if they got any closer. I attempted to scramble up the tree quickly but was caught by surprise when a wolf lunged at me and bit into my left leg. I was in a slight state of shock. I couldn't move for a minute, and my leg burned with pain. Another one attempted to drag me back down with him by my right leg but my brain screamed for me to react. I kicked at him and he seemed startled for a second. The other one refused to let go of me and I kicked him. Why the heck did I leave my katana at home! Why did I make them give me this mission! I lost my temper, I yelled and kicked will all of my strength, the wolf let go for a moment and I pulled my legs up from the forest ground. They lunged at me once more, barking and growling. I highly doubt they are gonna lose interest.

I yelled at them once more trying to ignore the pain in my legs. I took in a deep breath. The wounds were deeper than I was expecting, and they hurt more than most bites I suffered before this. One of the wolves, a black one, lunged at me. I screamed at it and tried to climb higher, it was just barely enough to keep me out of it's reach. I needed to heal, now! The deepest bite was maybe 1 inch deep and thankfully it didn't seem to break one of my bones. The wolves were staring, merely watching me touch my leg and explain the damage they had inflicted on me. They had ripped my damn stockings. I was mad. I wanted to kill them, but my actions wouldn't matter but to uselessly harm. I focused chakra into my hands and held it just over my left leg, I held my breath as I felt my skin begin to heal it was lavender glow. The color was somewhat comforting to my pain, after a while, it was healed. I looked at my other leg. It was much more milder, as it had not used as much force.

This one would be easier to heal. I used another Jutsu, this time, my hands touched the spot. It was roughly 1/2 an inch deep and didn't hurt as much. But that didn't remove any of my frustration. Soon after all both of my wounds were healed, I watched the wolves circle me, just walking around the tree. I had to head for the tree I saw before, from there, I had to just book it. I looked at the scroll, might as well map it? I went west, so I began to draw the trees and then the largest tree in the nearby radius. I put it up and contemplated how I was getting out of here. I felt like I had mapped enough, but then again, I think that was the left over adrenaline speaking.

I stood up, gaining the wolve's attention. I did several hand signals and five more girls identical to me stood on various spots of the tree. I gave them various commands in my head. Three would go in the opposite direction of the tree, while I and the other two would go toward the tree. The three of them would sacrifice themselves, as they would dissipate shortly after I would reach the tree and head for the home stretch back to the village. I jumped off my section of the branch and the two others followed me, two growled at me and the other three other clones jumped off their own side, running at full speed just behind me.

The other two wolves ran after them and I ran toward the tree. Oddly enough, the wolves behind me seemed to get slower, as if they were tired. It was relieving, to finally reach the tree I had aimed for, after all, the suffering I went through. I scrambled up the tree and the clones followed, because I still needed them I hadn't attempt to dissipate them. Suddenly the behavior showed itself in full power, the wolves retreated as if they just no longer seemed to care. I was a more difficult meal. I sighed, I bet I don't even taste that good, huh? I felt as if the previous clones had suddenly died off as well. Was the tree really that far away?

Tired and now no longer threatened, I took in a long sigh. I killed the other clones and hopped down from the tree. And then I merely walked, feeling the weight of all my anxiety disappear. By the time I got back to the village, it was mid-day, but had been morning when I left. I walked up to the building and slowly handed in my scroll. The man looked it over before sighing. "What happened to you? You looked like you got ran over by a herd of sheep," he commented, looking at me quickly. I rubbed the back of my head. Boy was mom going to have a laugh at this. And me in particular.
