Mission File – Betrayal:

More killing, that’s what it kept coming down to, whether each death was justified or not, it was within the realm of his duties to accomplish. The only way he would receive the reward for the mission was to complete the mission as the dossier detailed and that meant the death of the chuunin and two genin who chose to defect from Sunagakure no Sato with valuable information scrolls. Their deaths would be more numbers on the ever growing list of kills he had conducted. While the sight of dead bodies and blood wasn’t traumatizing for Seiryū, nor was the fact he was the one killing, it never did settle right, but it had to be done one way or another; by Seiryū’s hands or another’s.

The first order of business was finding them and hunting them down. Killing them wouldn’t be too much of an issue, especially in the dead of night where it would take one arrow per person to at least cripple them enough that they wouldn’t be able to fight back. The chuunin may pose a slight problem, but the genin would be easily taken care of within minutes. His bow and arrow would make swift work of them, and from a decent range too that he wouldn’t need to worry about them using any sort of numbers advantage available to them. The last report the dossier informed Seiryū about regarding the three, now missing nin, was that they were headed towards the border Kaze no Kuni shared with the Rain country, their presumable destination being Amegakure no Sato. He needed to be wary, for he assumed they had prior contact with another shinobi village and that was their reasoning behind stealing these particular scrolls. He could worry about that when the time came, for now he just needed to hunt them down and kill them.

Seiryū’s knew he’d be able to outclass the three nuke-nin in any form of physical expertise, seeing as how the dossier did highlight bit about their skill level and achievements, and suffice to say, even the chuunin lacked an impressive resume. Their own lack of personal skills was likely a driving factor for stealing valuable information, something they could trade for sanctuary. Seiryū did not know their motives for leaving, nor could he assume them, but they didn’t matter when it came to his end goal for this mission; their death. That was what the village had demanded of him and that would be what he carried out.

Taking in a deep breath, feeling the wind press against his face as he ran against its direction, Seiryū moved swiftly across the cool, night desert sands. It was just one more advantageous stipulation for him, being able to pick them off one by one, once they were found. It was cruel to already plan out their death, but it was inevitable. They had already chosen their fate the moment they decided to steal valuable pieces of information from Sunagakure no Sato. Death wouldn’t have been in their future had they left without any thieving antics. Yet it was too late for them to change any minds, nor their own future. He’d make sure their deaths were at least swift. Seiryū couldn’t promise they would be painless.

“Come on, Sugimoto. We’re only a few minutes away from the meeting point. After that we’ll be in the clear.” The voice was clearly female and authoritative when addressing the other shinobi, a younger male genin. The female that spoke up was likely the chuunin that was leading these two genin to Amegakure no Sato.

“Are you sure about this Yukari? Won’t Suna just send someone after us for leaving? Not to mention the scrolls we stole. They’d probably kill us or throw us in prison for years!” The one known to Seiryū as Sugimoto clearly displayed a sense of fright for their departure from Sunagakure no Sato. The young boy spoke up once more, this time directing his attention towards the third member of their group. “Neh, Usagi. Aren’t you worried about what will happen when they find us?”

The third member of the group remained silent for a few more moments, debating the words in her head before she let the sole male member of their group know about her feelings regarding the presumable shinobi after them. “I think the further we’re away from the village, the better chance we have of getting to Amegakure and meeting with the group we contacted. If no one has come for us yet, I think we’re in the clear.”

A moment of silence followed, the light howling of wind was the only source of sound the occupants of this part of the desolate sands could hear. There was nothing else except for their breathing. Only the sound of an arrow cutting through the air, covering a rather small distance in a short span of time, was the only thing to intrude on the sounds of nature and now nuke-nin. A clearly feminine scream was heard, and of the three deserters of Sunagakure no Sato, the female genin of the group had fallen over, landing on her front without anything in her path to cushion the blow. Her two companions turned to look over at her fallen form, only to notice the shaft of an arrow protruding out of her back; the head buried mid-spine.

“Sugimoto! We need to hurry. Leave her!” The cry of urgency from Yukari highlighted her though process regarding the attack that had been launched at them. Their only source of light came from the waning crescent moon, but it didn’t provide them with enough light to find their attacker. Instead, they only had the option of fleeing available to them and hoping that their backup would be sufficient enough in surviving this attack.

His eyes roved over the fallen body, just one of the three shinobi he was tasked with hunting down. Just from the cues Seiryū had thus far, he could conclude they were all fairly young, with the chuunin only slightly older than the two genin she was leading. The two genin were easily recent academy graduates, no more than fourteen years old each. The one known as Yukari seemed to be a few years older than either, yet that gave Seiryū absolutely no insight into their defection and departure from Sunagakure no Sato, nor was it his job to find out either. Sugimoto and Yukari took off in a sprint, leaving the body of the girl to slowly die. He’d have to dispose of the bodies once he was done with taking out the other two, though they wouldn’t get too far away once he chased after them. The arrow would certainly be able to guide Seiryū back to the body thus there wasn’t a need for him to mark the body for later.

Seiryū took off at a pace that would allow him to catch up with the other two shinobi in a matter of minutes. He knew it wouldn’t take long for him to eliminate the other two, for one was another genin while the other was a chuunin. The genin was basically fodder. The chuunin could likely put up a fight, but she was likely far to slow for Seiryū’s bow and arrow.

It was just under three minutes as he caught sight of them once more, their figures no longer mere dots in the distance but rather semi-detailed figures from the distance between himself and them. Continuing forward, Seiryū readied his bow and drew out another arrow. These shots, moving with a moving target, was something he had to constantly practice and it certainly was a tough task. Yet, with the pace both were moving at and the direction they were heading, it wouldn’t take much for Seiryū to notch off another kill. Firing off his arrow, he struck down the other female of the group in the same area as the last one. She too, went down easily. She was still alive, he knew, yet the likelihood of her getting to her feet was unlikely. The genin only took half a second to pause, before continuing on his way. He seemed to be yelling something, though Seiryū could not make out the words.

Four shadowy figures rushed towards the lone genin of Sunagakure no Sato. They were likely affiliated to the country the three shinobi were defecting to. Seiryū released a sigh, knowing this would be a bit more difficult than he originally anticipated, though it was still manageable. All it would do was add to his own killcount. Releasing his third arrow of the night, Seiryū hit one of the figures he had yet to identify, hitting him in the jugular. Luck seemed to be on his side, but he needed to take out the genin no matter the cost. If he had to kill or avoid the other three, he would, so long as his mission was fully completed. He sped forward, eager to meet the three shinobi of Amegakure no Sato and the genin of Sunagakure no Sato, knowing their death would be the only way he’d get out of here with everything he needed; the scroll and the bodies burnt. The Ame-nin would likely only want the scroll, which was either with the fallen body of the Suna chuunin, or the lone remaining genin. He wouldn’t be able to know until they were all out of the picture and had the time to search the bodies of the fallen, defected, Suna-nin.

His free left hand reached into his pocket, swiftly withdrawing three of the six senbon he had on his person. As he got closer, the distance between himself and the other four now being at most twenty feet, Seiryū knew it would be a matter of time before the numbers got to him, unless he got to them first. It didn’t matter the order they fell in, though focusing on them one by one was the only logical solution the archer had available to him. The three senbon he had went flying towards another of the chuunin, striking him a few vital spots, yet nothing that would take him down immediately. The options were to take him out immediately or leave him be and weaken the others. Either option was viable, but weakening or taking out a second person would better suit Seiryū in the current situation. Slinging his bow back in his usual spot so his right hand was now completely free, Seiryū drew out his single kunai and prepared to get into a closer range with the remaining shinobi.

Close range combat wasn’t his specialty, but Seiryū had enough training with kunai and an expanding knowledge on kenjutsu to know how to fight with limited options available to him. The two healthy Ame shinobi directly darted towards Seiryū, while the remaining genin stood out of the way, heading towards the body of his fallen comrade whom he defected with. The scroll. That’s what he was searching for.

Both his opponents drew out a kunai each, his one to their two. He wouldn’t be getting out of this unscathed, he knew that much, but he also knew that he’d come out victorious, so long as a curveball wasn’t thrown into the picture. His kunai met one of theirs, yet the third one had free reign. Seiryū moved slightly out of the way, but the kunai managed to scrape his left deltoid. Ignoring the pain that came with it, Seiryū focused on the battle and the two chuunin instead. He pressed his kunai closer to the one it had met, before quickly drawing it back and stabbing it forward, plunging it in the shinobi’s abdominal. Still having a hold of his kunai, Seiryū pulled it out while beginning to turn and kick the other shinobi away. His enemy, however, ducked. He tried to do something similar to Seiryū, but the shinobi of Sunagakure no Sato backed away from it. Instead Seiryū went to the quick but efficient kill, having taken out the second of his two current opponents. All that was left was a genin and another Amegakure no Sato shinobi. His bow would make quick work of them. Taking his bow once more, along with one arrow, Seiryū fired it off, hitting the already injured shinobi of Amegakure no Sato. Then another one. For the genin. He didn’t want to think on it too much, too many lives were already taken by his hands, and this was but another one.

Now, with only Seiryū being the only living being in the direct vicinity, he had all the time in the world. Needing to find the scroll and destroying the bodies all that remained. He already knew who held the scroll, thus Seiryū began making his way towards the sole male genin that defected from his village, finding the scroll just a few inches away from his right hand. Destroying the bodies may take a bit of time, but it was no sweat off his back.
