Onigakure no Sato. The hidden village of demons. It can also be translated into 'The hidden village of Ogres' but from the few documentation mentioning the place in question, the former is the correct and generally accepted the translation of the name. No matter how anyone interprets the name, one can't deny both of them fit the place well, at least if you read the history.
Predating the modern era, Onigakure no Sato came into existence around the time of Konohagakure no Sato, almost three hundred and some years ago. Rumored to be the second village founded ever though this might be false considering Uzushiogakure no Sato reportedly was the first village founded followed then by Konohagakure no Sato, therefore making Onigakure being the third one to appear, nevertheless such specifics wasn't important. Whenever it was founded, it became notorious known for its abundant high natural chakra that even eclipse Mount Myōboku at various points in time, and also, demonic wildlife and chakra beasts; the best example of the latter being the beast that attacked Konoha and took the strength of the first Hokage and Uzushikage to defeat and seal away. For some unknown reason, chakra beasts were capable of forming and growing within the village's confines, though it's speculated natural chakra had a hand in creating and maintaining them.
Of course, people lived there. However, they weren't the friendliest bunch. If it didn't happen within their walls then they weren't bothered in getting involved. isolationism, having little to any human contact from the outside world being common for them. Though they were never big enough to have a Kage, they did have a leader, however, not much is known about the man except he was heavily spiritual, like most of the natives, and ran the place with an iron fist. Being heavily spiritual and ruling with an iron fist was a common trend amongst all the rules and for a time it worked. It was sometime around the end of the Second Great War that Onigakure lost all communication to the outside world, even though they were isolationism they still had some contact with the outside world, just not much. At first no one thought much about it, citing the current leader probably completely cut them off from the outside world. However, when years passed by with no communications, people got worried. When investigation teams reported the Country being devoid of life, except for a few chakra beasts, with no indication of what the cause might be, people panic. For years and centuries to come, the question of what cause the population of a medium-size country to disappear remained a mystery.
"'Course the stories of people hearing and seeing ghostly figure moving through walls were dismissed as nothing but disillusion of the craze. I would tend to believe so as well if it wasn't for the fact I'm a shinobi and we are selves are capable of doing things that can seem as supernatural. Not only that, this won't be the first time I dealt with something like this.", Nanashi mused to himself, eyes reading over the parchment, detailing his orders from the Daimyo. The leader of Tsuchi no Kuni had sent a couple of teams to investigate Onigakure no Sato with none of them coming back out upon entering the country. To add on, those who were afraid of entering reported to seeing apparitions wandering about.
Wanting to find out what exactly was going on within Onigakure. The Daimyo had dispatched more teams, this time the members being shinobis, with Nanashi and his two teammates being elected to go this time around. Speaking of his partners, the Guanyin asked to take his apprentice, Yuurei Jet, the pair having made up after the Kumo fiasco, and Sora; a clan heir and his daughter in all but blood.
Clearing his throat, grabbing the attention of his companions, Nanashi spoke, telling them exactly what they are here for "Our Daimyo wants us to get to the bottom of whatever happening in the village before us. He doesn't care how we do it or the amount of damage cause. He just wants it done. It is suspected that we might run into stranded, people who had gotten lost within the village confines. We must secure these people and make sure they get out alive as well. With that being said, I hope you all came prepared for any and everything. Keep your wits about you and be on the alert for anything unnatural. Let get this done quickly." with his peace said, Nanashi stopped leaning on the gate and peered into the village they were about to enter.
