Is it called the Skyforge because it is in the Sky...?
The general musings of the girl made her tilt her head in thought. She stood at a ledge that overlooked the vast rocky mountainous region that was Kaminari no Kuni. The sky was cloudy, as it always seemed to be in this Land, though the overcast weather did little to rain down on the eventful market behind her. The market of course was filled with the products of various master forgers and craftsman who came from across the lands to sell and trade their wares at the legendary site. Only the best swordsman could come here and only the masters could forge here. The girl herself actually was only a novice Swordsman at best and didn't even have a blade to call her own. While it was her dream to one master the art of the blade, it still remained only a dream.
She had come here however to see what she could see and perhaps find a signature weapon she could call her own. An unlikely event as many of these items were well beyond her price range. Window shopping would likely be the only kind of buying she would partake in. The girl was perfectly fine with that, it just excited her to come to a place such as this. Where she, an ametuer, could witness the makings of a sword by find craftsman and sword makers. She turned and headed down a row of vendors, taking in the crowded noise of metal banging against metal and vendors shouting off their prices for a deal. The Skyforge of today had become a trade bazaar for the highly skilled, the finest items in all the lands were crafted here.
Mari walked slowly as she looked round. The amount of finely crafted blades, shields, armor, even puppets and medical instruments, any kind of item was overwhelming. She could really only take her time and stare in wonder. She had never witnessed such a weapons trade in Suna, besides the noise market of the Grand Bazaar, yet there the wares had been foodstuffs or civilian curios, here were weapons of elegant, and many with quite lethal capability.
Yet suddenly there was something that caught her eye. The blade was thin, pointed at the end with a decorated hilt of curving silver metal. Its edge was perfect, the metal shining like a reflection in the thin mirror. Mari couldn't help but eye the weapon, losing herself in admiration.
"It's a good blade. An item of the highest quality."
The girl turned her eyes up to see a man with a white headband and graying hair. His skin was dark, dotted with age spots, an aging master selling his wares to the passerby. His dark eyes held a sparkle of wisdom, only held by that of experience with the ways of manipulating metal. He stood at least a foot and half taller than the girl with a petite frame. Was he thinking her a proper Swordsman? Mari never really dressed the part. Today she wore a white long sleeve dress, black ribbon tied to each arm. A black skirt with white petticoat layer underneath to poof the dress out, along with simply black tight and her regular black boots, comfortable and easy to wear of course. A black bow centered itself on her chest, and around her torso a simple black corset. And of course she always had her white bow adorned on the right side of her head. The only other color seemed to be the blue of her eyes, which looked up to the old master before her.
"Go ahead. Try it out. Yah good enough ain't yah? And it's left handed."
The girl blinked in surprise again. How could the man have known she was left handed? Well... Perhaps the sword was especially made for those with the other handedness, and that was why she was drawn to it. But not wanting to disappoint the man, she took the blade carefully into her left hand. She was left astonished at how perfectly balanced the blade was and how natural it felt to hold in her hand. It felt lighter than any blade she had ever picker up before and the gaurd Curled round her hand so gracefully. Taking a deep breath in and out the girl got into stance, and of course making sure no one else was too close to her. Her feet were shoulder width apart, her left foot forward while her right at an perfect ninety degree angle from the heel. She let herself relax her weight comfortably, holding her shoulders back with the sword in front of her. Another deep breath in and out, she lunged forward leading with her arm and following through with the rest of her body, front foot forward with her back foot kicking back.
A perfect textbook excuetion of the lunge.
The old master nodded, the girl and blade and become on and the same, just as all his weapons should be in the hands of weapons user. But much to his surprise, the girl lay the blade back down on the table.
"It is a fine piece of weaponry, Master," Mari looked longingly down to the wonderful blade, once again eyeing her reflecting in its perfectly shined metal. "Though I fear that I am not worthy to take upon a sword of this caliber just yet." She nodded with a polite bow of gratitude to the old swordsmaster who begrudgingly nodded at the girl's decline. She turned and backed away, unsure if anyone had just witnessed the entire event besides the old master. She sighed slowly, regretting most of what she had said.
"I fear it is my pocketbook that is not worthy." She thought out loud as she began walking through the Skyforge once more.
