Unsettled with the task of his last mission endeavor, the young genin found himself with yet another red and green trim mission dossier between his fingers. There had to be more meaningful things to do around the village than hunt down pet lizards for awkward store owners, there just, had to be. Taking a deep breath he opened his eyes, revealing deep blue irises from behind the frame of his teal monocular goggle with nervous anticipation. Pulling the lever on what he perceived to be a secret roulette of D-rank missions, unsorted and uncategorized, he simultaneously held his breath to discover his result. Letting out a sigh of satisfaction, his demeanor gradually transitioned just from reading the title, “Go! Train!”.

“Training! That’s really the mission!? They are gonna pay me to train, now were in business!” He shouted aloud as he bounced along the walkway with gleeful pep in his steps. There wasn’t very much information thereafter, only stating that he would meet his sparring partner on the west end of the Tsumi Sand Grounds, a place he was veteran of only one time prior. If it was one thing he remembered about the sand grounds it was the heat coupled with the painstaking humidity. Glancing up at the high noon sky he frowned his face with dread, realizing this mission  coincidentally fell upon the hottest part of the day.

“Perhaps it wont be as relaxed as I thought…” He uttered between his ears as he raised an ebony brow in frustration. The words of that stylish genin from his last visit began to creep back into his memory, remembering his advice as he spearheaded a group departing contemporaries. His idea, along with the others, was to return later and train at night when it cooled. As he made a right hand turn towards his newly established destination, he hoped for both their sakes that this arranged sparring partner of his was reasonable and would agree to exchange blows under the moon as opposed to the sun. Besides, it would be a bit more poetic that way, right?

Finding himself perched behind a boulder in a desperate attempt to keep cool rang bells of deja vu as this was the position he had found himself in during his last visit, only this time, he was simply lying in wait and not gearing up for an ambush. Stalking Suiton users and baiting them into soaking him with water for hydration was so last week, and besides, getting hit with the Mizurappa jutsu was something he would do without this time around. Peering from behind the rock he scanned the area with his ocean hued eyes, unable to see a soul as far his eyes cold see in any direction. Chances were his concerns towards the heat were shared by his still ever mysterious sparring partner, the difference being perhaps that he could not find suitable shade as the adolescent Sōseiji managed to do. With a heavy sigh he spun back around, motoring his lips in hopelessness as he slid down the side of the boulder and down onto his arse, the mission was seeming hopeless and improbable at this point.

Minutes after his immature flop to the ground he perceived what he could only describe as a blonde crop of hair slowly begin sprouting up from the ground. The surrealism of it all caused the young genin to shake his head as if to whisk away what he might have assumed as the beginning stages of a mirage. With the given heat, such things he imagined would be possible over longer exposures. But even after he had rattled his mind free, the up cropping of hair was still there a couple yards ahead of him, in fact now rising gradually with a consistent rate of speed. Scrambling to his feet in alarm he flipped up his goggle and ran his index finger across his eyes in attempts to restart his vision since the shaking of his head seemed only to make the illusion worse. But by the time he had replaced his goggle and regained his bearings, there was a full fledge individual sprouting out of the ground.

“Hmm…? I’m assuming since were the only ones around that you are here for the training mission, right?” The boy inquired as he completed his emergence from the sand, open palm striking the tilt in his head as he knocked the excess grains from his ear. He was tall, well at least in comparison, roughly two to three inches taller than the young Sōseiji although probably his same age. The boy had olive skin with spiky blonde hair along with a pair of light grey eyes that added a further sense of randomness to his features. He wore a brown cowl around the neck and and a white short sleeved shirt underneath. His village headband was wrapped around his waist with brown cloth in conjunction with his black shinobi sweats and padded sandals.

“The name is Otamaru, Ratsu. You are…?”

“Happy your not a figment of my imagination… Err...umm, I mean uh, Tsugumichi. Tsugumichi Sōseiji.” He replied awkwardly with a relieving tone in his voice while incessantly blinking and pinching himself, just to make sure this was real and he wasn’t actually dreaming.

“Well met Tsugumichi. Umm, I take it you’ve never seen the Shinjū Zanshu no Jutsu before. It’s quite alright, it usually freaks people out when they have never witnessed it, which is why I could admit it is one of my favorites.” Ratsu replied with a light grin as he walked passed the blue eyed genin to the clearing behind the boulder, assuming a full body stretching routine as if in preparation for their business to come.

“Hey uh, Ratsu. Would you like to push this back until tonight so we don’t have to fight in the-…” His train of thought had been cut off as he quickly found his new acquaintance airborne, his silhouette nearly blocking out his line of sight to the sun. A mess of hand seals accompanied his ascent, the details of their combination a little too indescript to see, and unknown as far as his knowledge could tell. Before a moments notice a succession of fire balls began raining down, spewing out of Ratsu’s mouth like he’d been harboring falling comets in the lining of his stomach.

”..heat.” He finished in thought as the boulder shielded him from the first fireball which arrived the quickest, giving him time to dance between the other two with a handless cartwheel and double front tuck. It seemed Ratsu had little regard towards a mutual start and wished to jump the gun with seemingly lethal intent. Reading the situation after his successful dodge, he burst forward with a leaping over hand right, finding an opportunity to catch Ratsu during his descent with no means or traction to maneuver.

“Jākatasuto!” The dark haired genin exclaimed as he found his fist barrel into a last minute double high guard, hitting both of forearms, forcing Ratsu back a few inches. It was apparent the concussive shock was surprising as Ratsu had attempted to move his arms, more than likely to perform hand seals, but could not due to the immediate stun. With this quick realization, Ratsu had did his best to retreat from melee range, but found his movement slightly slower than usual as an additional result. Taking advantage, the young Sōseiji opened up with a flurry of punches, riddling Ratsu’s body with strikes to the face and body before knocking him to the ground with a final jousting strike to the sternum.

The deep blue eyed rookie ninja exhaled with a sense of satisfaction as he held his follow through, legs shoulder with apart with his right arm outstretched and his left fist tucked by his jaw line. Baring down visually on his beaten opponent, his heart immediately sank as he watched what appeared to be a wounded Ratsu disperse into a puff of flames. “A clone, but when…? He inquired in thought, but quickly remembered no visual recollection of Ratsu ever jumping into the air, just descending with a fireball attack. It seemed his opponent had performed some sort of fire clone technique in the moments his eyes were briefly averted. Clever. “If I’ve been preoccupied with a clone, then where is…!”

The question between his ears was immediately answered as he felt a hand grip around his ankle, seemingly from out of the ground itself. “The Shinjū Zanshu no Jutsu!” Instantly he remembered as his short term memory recalled the technique Ratsu had used upon entrance. It was hard to say whether it was poetic irony, or down right arrogance on Ratsu’s part to trap him with a jutsu he revealed even before the start of battle, but he would be sure to take a page out of his opponents book if nothing else. The Sōseiji would manage to perform a row of hand seals before being snatched roughly three meters in to the ground, finding himself completely immobile and up to his neck in the sand. As much as he tried to struggle free, his level of strength proved insufficient.

“I’ve got to hand it to you, I never thought you’d be able to defeat my clone so quick and easy like that.  Most people never make it past the Hōsenka no Jutsu, you’ve got potential Tsugumichi. I won’t knock you out if you give me a stated surrender, and heck, since I like you I’ll  even release you from the Shinjū Zanshu no Jutsu so you don’t have to sit here and bake in the sun. Thats more than most people get out of me, consider this your lucky day.” Ratsu said with a patronizing tone as he stood over the Sōseiji’s head with his hands perched upon his hips and a satisfactory smile smeared across his face.

“Your right, it is my lucky day, It’s the first battle I’ve ever won.” He replied casually as his Eizō reflection rose behind Ratsu and pressed its kunai blade against his throat.

“But when did you-…!?”

“I preformed the jutsu while you were underground pulling me, thats why you never saw it.” He interrupted, knowing full well his opponent would be asking for an explanation.

“Although if you would have stayed alert, you’d have probably noticed. I got the idea after what you did with your clone, its a really good strategy, I see why it works for you. So yeah, I’m good with a stated surrender.” He added smugly as Ratsu gritted his teeth in frustration and helplessness. But with a final sigh he gave in and begrudgingly nodded in line with his request.

“Fine, well played. I surrender Tsugumichi.” Ratsu said unenthusiastically as the Eizō pressed the kunai tighter against his neck and nodding to him after eye contact, insinuating the additional release of the real body.

“Alright. alright.” Ratsu added as he dispelled his technique, freeing the real Tsugumichi, and in exchange being released from the Eizō’s custody. Seeming a little too proud to stick around and relish in the loss, Ratsu abruptly deployed a smoke bomb, obscuring both Tsugumichi and the Eizō’s vision as he escaped before the purple cloud settled and finally dissipated.

“Tch! That guy…”
