~ Weeks Ago

Sitting down in the dojo with a cup of hot tea was Kenji and a wise sparring partner. Kenji had often dueled the elder not because he was a challenge but because of their spirited debates. His name was Weifu. No matter the situation he always had a unique perspective that made Kenji consider things that he had not before. At this moment, Kenji had been discussing his recent retraction from taking on a student. Being a sensei was fun, but his personal life made it a struggle to say the least. As Kumogakure's Sanin and espionage specialist, he was constantly being sent away to do recon and surveillance for months at a time. This reality made it difficult for Kenji to be a reliable sensei.

Weifu mentioned that Kenji would not be ready to be a sensei again until he was aware of the unnoticeable. Once again, the meaning of Weifu's words eluded him. What in the Raikage is he talking about???!! Kenji was used to it, and as always didn't try to the decipher the message immediately but would wait for it to manifest naturally.

~Present

Kenji was now back in the dojo sitting on the floor one more chatting with Weifu after a nonchalant and friendly spar. Being with Weifu caused him to contemplate his words from a few weeks ago. A puzzled look washed over his face momentarily as the cryptic message stunned him. He shook it off and glanced over at a smiling Weifu. It was no secret that he found pleasure in stumping the brilliant shinobi. Kenji rolled his eyes and took a sip from his freshly brewed tea. The dojo was quiet.

Baki paused as he walked up to the front gate of the dojo, It was like any other dojo he had seen. School name on the front, the kumo nation symbol next too it. He clenched his fist, the note in his hand gave this as the address. He was supposedly going to meet his Sensei today. His heat beat a little quicker as he pushed the gate open and walked to the main door, the smell of tea entered his nose. "I hope this is the right place.." He thought as he knocked on the oak sliding door. The people that he has met so far, the things he has seen was nothing compared to what was going threw his head. He was a Shinobi now, for better or worse he would become the best.

OOC: I apologize for the wait.

It was now time for Kenji to set his sights on the latest recruit. Apparently it was being left to Kenji to decide whether or not he was ready to accept the responsibility. He had received greats words of wisdom and encouragement from his friends and mentors such as Weifu and the Raikage, Sanosuke. They all had confidence that he could. A young man walked in, late teens. He was of average height and build. His blonde hair was barely revealed due to the obscurity created by his hood. From where Kenji sat he looked to be uncertain about the location. Kenji would show a rare sign of mercy and put his worries to rest. His voice lifted and filled the dojo. "Welcome. You have come here with hopes of joining a squad. Well let's begin. My name is Chikara Kenji, Sanin of Kumogakure. Before you showcase your skills, state your name for me."

He looked down at his elder Weifu who would not meet his eyes. Kenji frowned and steered his attention back to the shinobi. The only information Kenji elected to accept was the boy's rank and age. He was an 18 year old Genin. What he lacked in ranking he hoped he would make up for in intangibles. This would be more of a meet and greet for sure, but he did have a few drills in store for the prospect. After shifting his weight under his stance the floors of the dojo creaked. It was a remarkable dojo, so much attention to detail was made with the carvings in the wall and above all else the cleanliness. As rare rays radiated right through the glass eyes of the building, the interior's prestige rose with ravishing sparkles.

There was two in the dojo other then Baki. A old man and a young man with blueish hair. The younger one of the two sitting down addressed Baki. "Welcome. You have come here with hopes of joining a squad. Well let's begin. My name is Chikara Kenji, Sanin of Kumogakure. Before you showcase your skills, state your name for me." Baki let out a small sigh and removed his hood. 'So he wants me to showcase my skills huh, well ill just see if I can surprise him.' He thought Activating his Genjutsuken. It did not require hand signs and it would be very hard to avoid being caught in it. 'Lets see If I can at least give him a good show.' After Baki was confident his jutsu aura was stable he looked around. The old dojo had seen plenty of fights and it would seem that there was about to be another. In a rare sign of respect he kicked his shoes off before entering. "My Name is Hibiki, Baki. As for Showcasing my skills, how about a little match?" He said, his trademark smirk plastering his face. He knew he would not win under normal circumstances, however, it was his way to at least make sure he had a worthy teacher. It was as he had heard once before: 'You can never know a man until you fight him' His eyes focused in as he awaited his new teachers reply.

Hibiki Baki huh... This kid is something else. Challenging a Sanin. This was what I was looking for. Confidence and gusto. Now it is time for his toughest phase. A phase where his confidence will slowly crumble, he'll think it is over for him, but I will make sure he sees strength within himself he never fathomed.

Kenji glanced down at Weifu once more with a look of wanting. He wanted Weifu's reaction. Was this the unnoticeable intangible that he was to be on the lookout for. Had he found the student that could spring him back into senseihood. His attention now back on Baki. "If a match is what you want, a match is what you will get. I've heard little, please show me more than that." Kenji smiled as he put his gloves of reflection on tightly. They shimmered marvelously. Apart from their gaudiness, they were a dangerous accessory and a conduit for many of Kenji's illusions. The Chikara wanted to take it slow though, so he would put his genjutsus on hold to get an idea of what Baki was truly made of.

Kenji drew a kunai and spoke softly. "Shall we, challenger?"

"If a match is what you want, a match is what you will get. I've heard little, please show me more than that.Shall we, challenger?" His opponent said pulling out a kunai. Baki smirked, perhaps this would be fun after all. 'Lets see just how he likes my genjutsuken!' Baki drew breath, this was going to be a good fight in his mind he just had to make things work out. "Genjutsuken : Falling rush!" He yelled sending the unusual genjutsu at his wood be teacher. 'Hopefully I can capitalize on when he falls down' He thought with a grin still on his face as he charged the other shinobi fists flying already.

The test had begun. Baki was showing the passion he'd hoped to see out of a prospect but he was hopeful that he wouldn't attack recklessly. His hopes worked. The Gennin charged behind a technique, it had yet to be seen how well the combination would work. Kenji didn't feel much of anything as Baki charged forward. Then as Kenji took a single step forward he felt his legs almost give out. His eyes narrowed as a brief moment of shock coursed through him due to his knees buckling. A sinking feeling settled in his stomach creating poor balance. It was apparent that the Genjutsu master himself had been snared into an illusion by his possible student. Kenji didn't want to ruin the fun by kaiing out though. It's been so long since I've faced a fellow Genjutsu user I noticed the illusion a lot slower than usual. However, a Genjutsu of this strength is not nearly enough to gain an edge. He will need to attack behind something much stronger than this. I will concede this much though, it is a pesky little illusion and quite creative.

That is what Kenji looked for in Genjutsu users, creativity. So many practicioners of the art created gruesome and tortuous illusions, but they were easy to spot. Tactical more subtle illusions are much more effective, and this illusion that was attacking Kenji's equilibrium was of the subtle category. As a shinobi who possesses kage level Genjutsu, Kenji could help Baki a lot in the filed of Genjutsu.

As stated earlier Kenji didnt want to kai out, he was having too much fun. To ground himself againt the oncoming Baki he fell on all fours to offset the unbalanced sensation. Having his knees and palms pressed against the floor of the dojo gave him a few moments of balance. In his temporarily stable state, he threw the kunai that he had held in his right hand. The kunai was aimed at Baki's leg, this would cause Baki to either block or make an asserted effort to dodge. Aiming for the head would be to easy to dodge, a simple shift of the head would suffice, the only plus was that if the person tried to block, their line of vision would be temporarily impaired. Aiming at the stomach would be to easy to block. But aiming for the leg... it was a low target, so it takes more focus to avoid and it automatically draws the eyes low.

He could already feel the Genjutsu wearing off as he glared at Baki like an animal on all fours. Since the Genjutsu was wearing off, he was confident that the diversionary kunai would stall Baki just long enough so that by the time he reached him he'd have his full bearings. However, if Baki reached him before he gained his full composure, then Kenji's stance would provide him enough balance and awareness to lunge out of the way. He was in a precarious spot though, he didn't know Baki's close quarters skill, he was obviously confident fighting in close, as he selected that as his first means of attack against a Sanin. Therefore, Kenji would have to make an effort to keep this fight in his territory, mid range. If Kenji had brought his bows and scythe he could extend his range comfortably to long.

'perfect the jutsu worked, now for the kill!' Baki thought as he was closing the distance until he noticed something odd, his opponent did not seem to be in distress despite their equilibrium being all but non existent. 'Somethings not right, he is too calm' Baki thought, hastening his efforts. Something flashed in the corner of his eye, Kenji had threw a kunai at his legs. Baki let his body go threw the motions he had trained it and that's when things would become chaotic. Instead of making some grandiose movement in a dodge Baki simply did a small hop to avoid the kunai, he was doing what he could to minimize energy wasted as it seemed it was going to be one hell of a fight for him.

The distance closed and he could tell his jutsu was starting to wear off, however, his opponent was still on all fours as if he had been born that way. 'Now!' Baki thought launching a front kick at the man on the ground, for good measure he decreased how fast the kick would appear using his genjutsuken to be so as to see if he could get a good first hit.

Kenji, still sprawled on the floor, watched Baki dodged skillfully. It was those little things that could make a big difference. Understanding the importance of conserving energy and being smart was crucial. He used all his might to suppress a smile of adoration. He's got potential. A new issue had risen now, with his efficient dodge, Kenji was still going to be hindered by the Genjutsu once Baki got close, but he still felt confident that his grounding technique would give him enough wherewithal to deal with any strike of Baki's. On the surface, his impression did not change. Only the slightest brace was observable. Kenji wanted to wait to the last second to evade so he could get off a counter shot, just to test his taijutsu skills.

The strike was ensuing now. Inside Kenji gleamed, would Baki be the one that could get him to take his sensei hat off the shelf. Or would fail to impress, consequently leaving his sensei hat to collect dust. His heart nearly stop, the attack of Baki's lacked speed... greatly lacked speed. Is this... wait, this speed doesn't match his movements from earlier!! In that second of realization he knew he had to react, this was another Genjutsu, one that was altering Kenji's perception of his opponents motion. Kenji grunted because given his current state and his lateness and realizing he would not be able to dodge. I'll have to block, but if I stay in close, I continue to be vulnerable... i suppose it is time to activate my kekkai genkai. It should be interesting to see how Baki reacts once his Genjutsu is taken from him... maybe I'll put on a show illusory act too.

Kenji fought through the first illusion that attacked his equilibrium, he rose up slightly and put his forearms up against the front kick. While doing this he also activated his clan's special ability that made them virtually immune to Genjutsu. The first Genjutsu had already worn off, and bloodline ability dissipated the latest one that affected his perception of Baki. Once he absorbed the front kick on his forearms he leaped back a few meters. Kenji didn't want to let on completely that his Genjutsu was null, even though Baki was sure to figure out eventually, but Kenji wanted to take advantage of the time in between. "You're faster than you look, i was almost certain i had more time to block. It seems like you have a skill for changing speeds. Pfft, you'll need more than that though. That can be combated easily with focus alone." He said with a smirk, practically egging Baki on, encouraging him to continue his close range plan.

So far this kid has impressed. Mentally he has already shown acuity. Attacking behind the equilibrium attacking Genjutsu, then coupling that with a perception altering Genjutsu. It was genius really. If he was not going up against a Genjutsu specialist, he might have did some real damage. Baki was off to a good start. He had shown himself to be a thinker, creative, now we will find out his temperament, consistency, and ability to make adjustments.

Baki's eyes narrowed as his opponent blocked his attack. 'He should not have been able to block that, maybe he just got lucky.' He thought seeing the other guy jump back away and land. Baki only had a few seconds to think however, as what Kenji was saying set alarm bells off in his head. "You're faster than you look, I was almost certain I had more time to block. It seems like you have a skill for changing speeds. Pfft, you'll need more than that though. That can be combated easily with focus alone." Baki was starting to get angry but then forced out a calming breath. "Wait, a minute somethings not right, I had my suspicions when you blocked it, however, the nail in the coffin was your own words! Focus should have made it worse not better, Tell me, Just how is it you seen threw it?" Baki all but yelled, he had created the fighting style a long time ago when he needed a way to keep up with the old man training him, still he did not expect it to be so easily swatted away.

He paused for a minute in thought. 'Well if it turns out he is immune to genjutsu, then I know something that will give him a good surprise. "Did you know Genjutsu can work both ways?" Baki said as he tapped the side of his head. 'Ill use the Genjutsuken to see if it does still work or if it was just a fluke that he blocked, what he doesn't know is ill have my adrenalin release going and that should give me a little bit of a surprise!' "Adrenaline release." The words came out soft, however once the jutsu started he could feel the Adrenaline pumping threw him.

He wasted no time at charging again, this time however, he was alternating the speed of his punches with varied speeds as to confuse his opponent. He let out a loud yell followed by a barrage of punches as Kenji hoping a few of them would hit with his increased power.

"You want to know how I can see through your illusions... if I deem you worthy to be my student I might tell you." Kenji said with a smirk. A new development was taking place. Genjutsu works both ways... The words of Baki played in his mind. Kenji had a knack for knowing if someone's words had meaning... and he had a feeling Baki was not just talking for talking's sake. He meant something by that, something that could be vital to how the Sanin proceeded with this exhibition. Casually Kenji waved his arm dismissively at Baki, "demonstrate." On cue, Baki bolted forwards towards his potential sensei once more, but this time with greater speed and ferocity. The charging Genin drew closer and closer, but Kenji still saw no signs of this reversible Genjutsu Baki mentioned. It mattered not. Maybe it is time for me to unveil one of my techniques.

While Baki charged forward Kenji extended his palm so that it was facing Baki. If Baki's glance fell on the surface of the glove then he would be snared by Kenji's simple yet useful illusion. If trapped, Kenji would use his impeccable chakra control to manipulate Baki's senses in a way that he would see Kenji vanish before his eyes and appear approximately 5 meters to Baki's right. It would likely appear that the Sanin was flexing abnormal speed to change location so fast. In this moment of bewilderment, Kenji would capitalize. Baki's eyes and attention would likely be drawn to the illusion/reflection of Kenji, in that moment Kenji would launch a kunai at Baki's leg. While the real Kenji was launching a kunai at Baki's leg, the reflection of Kenji that Baki would be seeing 5 meters to the right would be mirroring the real Kenji's actions, the only difference would be that the reflection's form would be turned at such an angle that the phantom kunai released would be far off target. This would give Baki no reason to make any sudden moves to dodge while the real kunai was right on target.

Just as Baki neared his target lifted his hand at him. 'what is he attempting to do hit me with some sort of blast?' He thought just before rolling to the right to dodge if a blast came. It never did. As Baki looked up no longer was his opponent right there. 'Shit he is fast!' He thought, his mind frantically trying to find where he went. "Found you!" He yelled as he caught a glimpse of his opponent to the right of him. Wasting no time he spun on his heels and raced as fast as he could to try to catch up to the seemingly lighting fast shinobi.

Baki still running, watched as his possible sensei threw a Kunai at his leg. Something was wrong, it was a clear as day miss. 'Thats not right, if he was strong enough to get a team he knows how to throw a kunai properly, Its a trap!' Just as the though occurred to him he felt a Kunai slice a gash into his right leg. "Nice illusion, making me focus on the fake while the real mimicked the fake, I seen threw it but I was too late." He said in a loud voice not even turning from the illusionary attacker. He continued. "The Genjutsu you threw a kunai at one point, the real you another, both points at my legs. Judging from where you hit me you went to the left while I thought you went right." He paused turning to the real opponent. A grin lined his face. "I think you will see I can go a few more rounds.... Endorphin release!" He said giving a small hint to what he meant earlier.

The ache of his leg wound went mostly away, not so much that he could not feel it at all, but, enough he could still move without issue. Feeling his adrenalin release was soon up he sprang into action launching a front kick at his sparring partners solar plexus following threw with a roundhouse kick to his temple. 'PLEASE one of these make a hit!' He thought hoping his partner would not be able to block in time.

Baki attempted some sort of preemptive action when Kenji extended out his palm. He cocked his eyebrows... Not a bad idea actually, but this is not a physical attack. Kenji thought to himself mischievously. The illusion was underway, and everything went according to plan. As Kenji flickered away, Baki was left momentarily stunned. Upon locating the fake he was stunned again by the trajectory of the kunai being so far off. In that sliver of time that left Baki confused, the real kunai was launched by the real Kenji inflicting a minor wound on his leg. The Genin announced he had saw through it, but was not able to act upon his epiphany in time. Smiling a smile of more admiration. This guy continues to impress. Even though he got hit, the fact that he saw through on my very first use is amazing... meaning this technique likely won't work again. That's too bad, since it is one of my very Genjutsus. I will have to mix up the way I implement this jutsu in the future then.

A look of determination filled the eyes of the wounded ninja. It was as if the gash was not bothering him at all. This sort of endurance was not something Kenji could relate to given his frailty. Kenji smirked again... he's full of surprises. However, what followed left a lot to be desired. Another linear assault. He can't hope to hit me coming straight ahead like this... but, I'll never be able to gauge his strength if I don't take a clean hit. Let's see what kind of punch you pack... or kick!! Baki administered a front kick right to Kenji's solar plexus. A grimace landed on his face as his feet slid back a few feet as he endured the kick. The Genin followed up with a roundhouse kick to the head, Kenji ducked under. While Kenji ducked he simultaneously formed the dog, snake, monkey, ox, and tiger hand seals. If Kenji's Genjutsu was a success, Baki would be snared by a demonic tree that would coil around him.

'Finally got a hit, about damn time!' He thought as his kick landed sending his opponent back a few feet. He had no time to celebrate however, his opponent was making hand signs fast. 'Thats a dangerous thing using hand signs to close to your opponent..' Baki thought as he yanked off his jacket and threw it in Kenji's face to blind him. It almost worked. right as Baki went to throw his hoodie wood started to coil around him screwing his aim up and the jacket missed Kenji.

He had heard the stories of the Senju who could manipulate plants at their will. At first he thought this was the case but then looked a little deeper. He struggled againced the tree but to no avail. 'It might be a illusion.' He thought. 'KAI!" He yelled to attempt to get out of the tree. When that didn't work he started to get agitated. "Dammit! Screw this!" He struggled againced the tree. His adrenalin release had wore off. His movements came to a halt as the tree finished tightening up around him. He laughed. IT was not a happy laugh more like a laugh one would make when they know they were screwed. "This is stupid!" He said. "All of that and your just toying with me?.... looks like I need to get stronger and make you fight me right!" He said loudly as confident as ever. In his eyes he had not been defeated, not in the long run. His point of view was the only time you lost was if you gave up and he did not plan to ever give up.

The illusion was final. Kenji looked at the gutsy genin. The Genjutsu had the shinobi struggling against the embrace of the tree... once again Kenji was impressed as Baki had realized he was in a Genjutsu and attempted to kai out, but he was not strong enough yet. Laughter of defeat came after. Kenji grinned at Baki's response.

Of course I was toying with you... I am a Sanin, you are but a Genin. If I was to truly test your strength you'd be a pile of mush. However, testing your skill was only part of this challenge. What I was truly interested in was your desire and awareness. You displayed promise in both categories. Also, your Genjutsus are not half bad. You were paired with me partly because you have shown immense promise with Genjutsu. As you know by now, my primary choice of attack is Genjutsu. But my specialty is Genjutsu defense. As our training progresses I teach you multiple ways to defend against Genjutsu. For now, I think this is a good place to stop. We have much work to do. I'll be contacting you soon with mission details. I need to see you in the field before I make my final assessment.

Kenji waved goodbye and then turned to bid farewell to the old man Weifu before exiting the dojo.

Baki sighed as his former opponent revealed he was a sannin. 'Well that explains a few things.' He thought still somewhat angry that he lost. He calmed down as the illusionary tree binding him slowly faded to nothing. Baki focused in on what his possible sensei was saying.

'In the field huh? Its been too long since I was on a mission.' He thought dryly. as the sannin waved and bid farewell to them. He was alone with the old man and he glanced over to him. 'Why do our first meeting in front of someone else.' He thought his mind going over as many scenarios as he could to try to figure it out. Stumped by his own thoughts he retrieved his jacket and his shinobi sandals before bowing slightly and leaving for home.
