Yokochima Senju

Spoiler:

Yokochima sighed. Why is it always me?...its not like there arent any other genin running around in Konoha, right?... He frowned, and took another handfull potato chips out of the plastic bag. Originally he was not going to spend any more money on treats but after being approached by Kenjiro, his past taijutsu teacher in the academy, he just had to grab something small to eat to ease his mind. ...do you think he would notice if i were just...you know, not to come?...I am sure the kids would love that...i know I loved it when i was still in the academy... While he was jumping across the town, following the path he always used to take when he was younger, he remembered the words of his former teacher. ...you will be teaching the kids some valuable lessons regarding close and ranged combat, both of you, but keep in mind, theyre still kids so dont go to hard on them. Altough, if i remember your scores correctly, that is out of the question anyway, hahaha... ...yeah, thanks for that, teacher...thats just the motivational speech that i needed right now...what irritates me more is that 'both of you' part that he mentioned...could he be thinking of...you?..well he must know about it, eh? Most of the teachers knew after all... The genin pulled out the small piece of paper that the much older jonin had handed him and opened it up in midjump.
Crumbled Paper:
The handwriting was just awfull and the smiley made the whole thing seem just even more like a vicious joke than like a real mission as Kenjiro described it. Also, Yokochima did not know anyone by that name, so finding this fellow would certainly prove hard. He decided to reach his destination first and just hope that Masaaki would have received a similar invitation and was taking his own path to the small training area next to the academy building.
Another crackling sound, another handfull of chips and then he was already standing on the roof next to the academy and looking over to the small building that was once part of his daily, and sometimes nighty, life.
...memories... He threw the plastic bag behind him and jumped down to the ground.

‘Ew…another academy mission.’ Thought the boy disappointingly as he walked with as little enthusiasm he could muster. This would be his fourth academy mission, and although he have dealt with the class before it doesn’t mean he liked them any less than he did. He just isn’t cut out to teach, he doesn’t have the life experience necessary for such a task so why would the higher ups even both with giving him such a role? It baffles him how illogical and silly their way of thinking can be, but he wouldn’t dare to say that to their face.

The other amusing thing is that this time they’ve given him a job specially designed for those with taijutsu…and he doesn’t even have that specialization. ‘Ladies and gentleman…konoha mission administration at its finest.’ Pondered Masaki as he finally reached the gate to the academy.  After spending years being envious of those who got to go to the school at age 11 he didn’t even get to go until he was thirteen. He thought when he graduated as a genin he wouldn’t have to set eyes on the academy again, not like there’s any fond memories there…

Although there was one teacher…but no use getting hung up on the past.

What he does remember coming home every term with a report card showing good grades in everything but marital arts, that didn’t impress his elitist father or clan, and often led to scornful words, hence why the academy is not his most favourite locations.

As he approached the building, he spotted a figure up on the roof, he stopped looked up and tried to get a good view of him. Although he was obstructed by the sun he managed to work out sunflower yellow long hair, a pair of cobalt eyes and nothing else, except for the black kimono. A fine one from the looks of it.

He was about to body flicker up there when the Senju jumped back onto the soil again, and without another second Masaaki raised one hand into a ‘hi’ and casually said “Yo, I’m Uchiha Masaaki.” Naturally Masaaki’s thoughts immediately went to his ‘condition’ and he wondered if the seniors have informed his partner of his handicap. Based on past experiences he strongly doubts that.

With a humorous grin Masaaki then added "I guess I'm not the only unlucky guy to be lumped with this from the looks of your face."

Yokochima's feet had barely touched the ground when the other genin approached him already. “Yo, I’m Uchiha Masaaki.” he said with his Hand raised. ...what a weird fellow, whats with his hair...look whos talking... "I guess I'm not the only unlucky guy to be lumped with this from the looks of your face." ...nevermind the Hair, i think i like him!... Heya there, im Senju Yokochima, but you can call me Yoko. Both Yokochima and the Uchiha grinned at each other and the young Senju instantly felt a heavy weight being taken off his shoulders. ...thank God he seems to be alright, i was afraid he would be one of the morons from my class...as far as i can recall, you were the only moron in your class... I suppose, you would be the Taijutsu-Specialist then? Because i am most likely only here because id rather be somewhere else...and my past teacher knows that... In the Background he could hear the sound of the schoolbell ringing the end of the last class, which ment that it would be their turn with the little ones after the five minutes break. And indeed, he could already see the first kids storming down the stairs like a gigantic flood. ...this will be neither exciting, nor fun but very very hard... After a few minutes, that seemed like mere seconds to Yokochima, both him and Masaaki were approached by an older Shinobi. He came from out of the shadows by the house and seemed to be one of the teachers.
Are the two of you perhaps... He reached into his pocket and pulled out a little piece of paper, carefully folded. It looked like the less abused twinbrother of Yokochima's crumbled paper. ...Uchiha Masaaki and...er...Senju Yokochina? He looked up again and focused the two Genin. Ah yes, old boy, that would be us! My name is YokochiMa though, with an 'm'. Yokochima couldnt remember seeing that teacher back in academy which was weird but nevertheless he tried to make a good first impact. Ahem...yes. Kenjiro always had this sort of bad handwriting i am afraid...my name is Genji and it would be my turn to teach the young seeds of Konoha Taijutsu today. Unfortunately ive been sent of on a mission just a few hours ago, which is why you are here. I suppose you are capable of basic Taijutsu? His tone was a little bit arrogant but not exactly unfriendly.

Nicknames already? Well this guy’s seems laid back, which just made Masaaki like him a little more than he already does. He rubbed the back of his neck and grinned “In that case, you can call me Masa.” Answered the genin. The senju seemed like a decent enough person, hopefully at the end of the day he won’t be let down for being too naïve. People are double edged swords after all.

He kept his eyes focused on the senju’s lips to read the pattern, he managed to flawlessly piece together the sentence to understand the context. Or at least he hopes. “Taijutsu-specialist?” repeated Masaaki, he folded his arms and cocked his head to the side. A chuckle rumbled out of his throat. “Nah.” He answered sheepishly “I’m err…not a specialist, and I guess you’re not either?” although he may be interested in taking it up in the future so he had hoped to learn something today…’Well maybe I will still learn something, you never know.’ He remained half-heartedly optimistic about the mission, but still…this is amusing. “You make it sound like your teacher torments you for a living.” Quipped the older boy, the amused grin still on his face. “Soo, err…I guess this whole situation is kinda funny…ahha.”

His eyes caught the sudden onslaught of kids rushing down the steps, it made his stomach turn. He might live in a family of five but he’s the second youngest being only three years older than his little sister. Are they expected to entertain the little ones during play time as well? He hopes not, he isn’t exactly a natural with children.

His attention was distracted again by the approach of an older shinobi, who inquired on their names. “Aye.” Replied Masaaki as he watched the interaction between Yoko and the one known as Genji. The more Masaaki kept reading Genji’s lips, the more his eyes were beginning to lose focus. ‘He talks a lot.’ Thought the boy, his attention wavering until the last sentence. He remembered a class in Taijutsu in his academy days so maybe it’ll come back, like motor memory. He hopes. “Yes sir, I’ve attended Taijutsu class in the academy so I might remember something.” There was no point lying about it, he may or may not remember anything.

But then he grinned “But don’t’ worry about it sir, what’s the worst that can happen?” he gave the older man a reassuring thumbs up “Me and Yokochina- I mean Yokochima have it handled.” The older shinobi frowned, conflicted whether he should go or not...”Good luck on your mission sir!” said Masaaki as he grabbed Yoko’s sleeve and gave it a slight tug, indicating that they should get inside before the shinobi changes his mind.

“Taijutsu-specialist? Nah, I’m err…not a specialist, and I guess you’re not either?" Yokochima watched his "partner" as he talked. ...great, so were both not exactly good with taijutsu...how exactly did Kenjiro think we were supposed to do that??... Nu-uh, im afraid not. Im more the...hit-things-from-a-safe-distance kinda guy, if you know what i mean, Hahaha. The senju faked a couple of handsigns pretending to make jutsus. ...that was a terrible joke... For a few seconds he remained silent as he watched Masaaki talk to their senior ninja. Something about his fixed stare at the other seemed weird to Yokochima, but he just couldnt get a grip of what was different. Suddenly he felt something pull on his sleeve. ...u-oh i spaced off... He looked down and saw Masaaki holding his sleeve in his hand, while they were both walking into the direction of the building.
Genji meanwhile had already left the place after giving the two kids a silent nod. So...no one of us actually has real experience with Taijutsu, eh? Any ideas on how to handle this...mission then? Being in the same academy as he was in when he was a kid reminded Yokochima of his early taijutsu lessons. He could only hope that today would not be as bad as it was back then. ...surely you must have gotten atleast a little bit better since then, hm?... His inner voice whispered, well knowing that that was not the case. ...Yeah right, like hell i did... Yokochima sighed and followed Masaaki through the small corridor that led to the classroom. Even without entering the room they could hear the kids shouting, apparently they seemed to have stored up enough energy for their taijutsu lesson. Alright, here goes... Yokochima said to nobody in particular and opened up the classroom door. He expected the kids to be shocked and silent in an instant but instead, nobody seemed to react to him entering. ...obviously not, since we are barely a few years older than most of them... He turned to Masaaki. Do you have something...you know...flashy? to get their attention? Since your an Uchiha your surely able to do some fireworky things, eh? He smiled at his fellow genin.

“Nu-uh, I’m afraid not. I’m more the…hit-things-from-a-safe-distance kinda guy, if you know what I mean, hahaha.” Masaaki’s grinned in reply “Like-wise.” He knew exactly what Yokochima meant, although in his case it was more of a common sense choice to be more of  a range hitter. His hearing impediment means he’ll be more at disadvantage if he were to take on opponents at close-range, on the other hand he’s disadvantaged anyway at range, at least in cloe combat he can can follow his opponent’s movements, but the same can be said at long distance as well.

Being a deaf shinobi isn’t an easy stroll into the park at all. But Masaaki doesn’t complain about that. Shinobis are not meant to complain, but they are not meant to be deaf either.

“So…not one of us actually has real experience with taijutsu, eh? Any ideas how to handle this…mission then?” Masaaki doesn’t know, but he’s trying to think of something. What he does know is that today will be embarrassing for the both of them. Are the higher ups sadistic or something? Actually it might that their willingness to put taijutsu-inexperienced users into the roles of teaching young minds might be the reason why both the senju and the uchiha are rubbish in Taijutsu.

He was fortunate he is unable to hear the roars of the children, because he is pretty sure if he could he would turn around and walk away. He let the Senju enter the rom first, immediately he could tell their own ages will be a problem in teaching the kids. They won’t acknowledge them as authoritative figures. But a idea didn’t finally come to him, but before he could tell Yokochima his idea the older boy asked if he can do something to grab the attention of the class. “Well…” he frowned, and then sighed. The genin doesn’t have a lot of ‘flashy’ techniques to use, but the one he does have is katon element and that might be too dangerous to use in a classroom so he went to the window and opened it. Resisting the urge to steal the opportunity to climb out.

He walked back to the other side of the class, pressed his hands together and faced the open window and gathered chakra in his throat before unleashing a fireball at just the right size to shoot out of the window. It was a pathetic size compare to his usual sphere but the roar of the flames were enough for the kids to quiet down and finally fix their curious gazes on the genin boys.

“For our taijutsu problem…we may not have to do anything. Or we could pass it without looking like morons.” He smiled to the class and waved “Ever heard of piñata? A sadistic looking game where kids batter a dummy for sweets. We could apply the same idea to a scarecrow stuffed with hay and sweets and show off our ‘splendid’ skills, it’ll keep the kids happy and interested and it’ll look like we did a job well done.” Masaaki made it sound so easy but…will it really?
