Sanosuke
D-rank
Countless of people robbed in black walked down the downwards mountain pathway that would eventually lead to the flatground where the wake would be held. Sanosuke saw all this from the platform he was on. Being this elevated, from just 3 feet up above everyone else, Sanosuke was vulnerable to everyone's looks. Sanosuke couldn't help but look down. There was no way that he could even look at any of them in the eyes. They had counted on him to protect Kumogakure from any danger, but once again he let his people there. Pain blossomed in his fist as he held it tightly. Thankfully, he had ordered for his fairy gauntlets to be in the form of regular old black cotton gloves until he chose for them to transform. If it was just metallic gauntlets he was wearing, Sanosuke knew that crimson water from his body would soon drop on the platform he was on thus covering the entire wooden platform in nothing but his blood. It would cause a scene where they were not here for Sanosuke. They were all here for the passing of a great shinobi, someone that shouldn't have died. Sanosuke cursed at himself as he clenched his fist even tighter. There wasn't anymore time for him to pity himself, he had to stay strong for the people of Kumogakure. He was an important member of the village, the last thing he wanted to do was to disappoint their idol.
Draped over his body was a finely crafted black kimono that was detailed with tiny white air currents that went down the collar, there were matching pants as well. Underneath his black kimono was a white under shirt. On his feet were expensive black formal boots that captains would wear on their feet on special occasions. Sanosuke's headband was retired in his apartment. During times like these, the wearing of militarialistic like icons were frowned upon. It was a funeral and thus, they had no business being at this somber occasion. If this wasn't a funeral and Sanosuke had seen anyone wearing a headband on them, they would directly answer to him. Right over his right shoulder, Navi was floating as well. She stayed silent throughout the entire occasion and wouldn't say a word. This was actually the longest he has seen the wasp not talk for this long. If this wasn't a funeral they were at, Sanosuke would definitely have made a joke at his partner's expense. Flicking his hands through his braided hair, Sanosuke did so to brush off a drop of rain. So it was even going to rain? Even the god of the clouds are weeping for her. Looking directly to his right, about 5 meters away in an open casket that was soon to be dropped 10 feet under ground was the false body of the Kyudaime Raikage; Reika Misora. Sanosuke could barely look at the body without having knots in his stomach that were created by pure anger and frustration. They were directed at himself. If only he had come sooner and didn't delay. She would've been rescued sooner.
"Damn it..." Was the the words that could escape from the sage's lips as he looked into the now dark and cloudy sky. Soon people will be able to pay respects to the "body" of Reika. Rain drops were coming down and hitting his eyes as he remembered him first hearing about the death of Reika.
(Flashback)
"What hell do you mean?! How could this have happened?!" Sanosuke roared at the chancellors of the Kumogakure shinobi council. They were both elderly twins that looked to be in their early 60s. Both men wore something that looked to be fine cloaks to distinguish the two. Chancellor Co had on an azure colored cloak, while his twin brother Chancellor Bo had on a ruby colored cloak. But both of them looked taken back at Sanosuke's angry shouts. Normaly, Bo would have shouted back at the young sage but he knew fully well that Sanosuke was only venting out his own frustrations at them. Sanosuke had just returned to Kumogakure, his home, to be immediately called to the administraion building. At first Sanosuke believed that it was Reika wanting to know how the war in Kirigakure played out. He also guessed that she probably wanted to know exactly how much of a role Kumo was in the war. Hell if things went well, Sanosuke might have even asked her to dinner so they can talk about it. When he got into the office, he saw only the somber and sorrowful faces of the two chancellors. That's when they filled Sanosuke in. It made Sanosuke irritated. Hot bubbling fury unleashed itself in Sanosuke as he punched a hole in the wall the size of medium size wrecking ball.
"Sanosuke-sama I know you are furious and frustrated but..."
"We must do something about the people. They will surely ask questions about the Raikage."
Sanosuke didn't say anything as the chancellors were talking in turns once more. He had faced the two before when he had to ask to leave Kumogakure 5 years ago for sometime to begin his training. For 5 days, he had to hear the two of them talk in turns. It was enough to drive anyone mad. But this time, Sanosuke didn't say anything. He let them talk as he looked down at the ground. His hair covering up his face so that the elders couldn't make out his facial expressions. At this point, Sanosuke was too frustrated with himself he didn't even care what they had to say. He wouldn't object, he wouldn't fuss. For the first time, Sanosuke was just to angry to question. Without much confidence, the two continued.
"We suppose that we hold a funeral for the former Raikage. And make a false corpse using the hair that was left over for DNA."
"That way the villagers wouldn't even know that the killer also took her body away as well."
Again Snaosuke didn't say anything. All he could think of was why couldn't he have been there sooner. She didn't deserve this at all...
(End Flashback
The sounds of the orchestra could be heard as they shuffled in their stands preparing to play. Soon the air would be filled with their music as more and more people will come in and fill the space in. They were a family morning over the death of their mother. Sanouske knew that there will people weeping out for their dead mother. To the other side of the platform he was standing on was a table that contained a decorative box of tiny white bulbs that were about the size a baseball. The bulbs will take only a miniscule amount of the person that holds it. It's tradition that when paying respects to a dead Raikage, one must take the bulb and place it around the casket. Of course some people might not be able to take the strain of being that close to their dead mother, but Sanosuke had to be strong. He had to be there for them at the very least...
