Nagashi

Nagashi

The green-haired teen could just about stop himself from jamming his fist in the boy's mouth. The other genin was wailing as if he was dying, his incessant screaming resulting in Nagashi's clear look of disdain and contempt. Why was he doing so? Whilst sparring with the Watari youth, the apathetic boy had landed a powerful but awkward kick, that must have affected the other's bone unnaturally - twisted it for sure, but from the screaming, it had probably cracked it too - leading to the other breaking into a scream of agony. That shrill, deafening sound had continued for much of the last thirty minutes, as the green-haired genin endeavoured to bring his sparring partner to the hospital. They were here now, but the other was causing such a ruckus that the hospital staff had cleverly stayed miles away, leaving Nagashi with this... victim, until a medic was ready to take care of this failure of a shinobi. The green-head sighed to himself, his eyes tearing away from the (as far as he was concerned) unharmed peer, to the door. A knock had announced that a doctor was finally available. Thank. God.

The Watari genin wanted to be out of that building as soon as possible, but he wasn't going to get off so easily, much to his dismay. For whatever reason, his perfectly sound explanation of how the other boy was injured, was met with suspicion and disbelief, that quickly developed into a mock-interrogation. "No one cries that much" one of the staff had commented, to which Nagashi had hastily remarked "I know right!", his tone marked with bemusement. The comment though perhaps comical to some, resulted in more questions however and in hindsight, the youth wished he had kept him mouth shut.

"Are you sure you didn't use a jutsu?", "Did you use a weapon?", "Did you administer poison?".. all these ridiculous inquires were thrown at him, to which Nagashi could only shake his head adamantly. He had made the initial mistake of chuckling at one of the questions, convinced that the doctors were joking around - that this interrogation was some drawn-out source of entertainment for an otherwise serious work-place - but they weren't in the slightest! No. They kept him there for a very long while, all the while the screaming continued somewhere in the distance...

As soon as he was allowed out the youth bolted, dashing past the door, in hope of attaining freedom from that suffocatingly solemn environment. But whilst a door-bell had announced his exit, the same sound rung for a second time, only a second later suggesting he had been followed. "Look that really was an accident" Nagashi remarked angrily, turning his head around to face, what he imagined, would be a member of staff. But instead, and his eyes widened to accommodate his surprise, a girl was standing there. She didn't seem to be wearing anything indicative of her working for the hosptial. "What do you want?" he muttered, blatantly unaware that this girl had no intention to speak or interact with him. She had likely just happened to have been leaving the hospital, much like he was. Nonetheless, his eyes narrowed, as he scrutinised her suspiciously.

Toraika had heard the agonizing screams that emated from the hospital. She had just finished taking care of the newborn babies since they were so short handed in the hospital recently. Some type of illness was going around or another and now there were more patients in the hospital than there were medics. She had only been going about her typical day. She woke up and honed her medical jutsu with her mother, then had checked the mission board. Her latest activity on her to do list required her to check in on the hospital and see if they needed her assistance. Which they really did. Badly. She had finally rocked all the babies to sleep and had them relaxed enough for her to take her leave. Well that was until those agonizing cries filled the building. The Suna hospital wasn't small in any respects either. It was quite large with multiple floors and the cries she heard were not of a child's. She knew they had to be coming from a different section of the hospital completely. She ten was knocked back into reality as most or all the babies began to cry loudly joining in with the other cry. Somehow that scream was louder than all the babies combined and it made her skin crawl. She quickly hummed the babies back to a relaxed state since it was near impossible to put them back to sleep with that racket going on. She took her leave once a nurse appeared to relieve her of the nursery. "What is that terrible sound?" She asked the nurse this with more sympathy than anger. Though the nurse just looked back at her with a scowl upon her face. "Go see for yourself." Was all she replied then slammed the nursery door in her face. That whole ordeal was out of the ordinary since the people here were always kind and never been that rude to her. Not even once! They always welcomed her assistance. She took a deep breath and just took the nurses advice as she took the stairs to follow that sound. As she approached the emergency ward, she took notice to all the crowd that was rushing through the halls and out of a certain room. Something compelled her to continue into the room that the shrill screams were coming from though once she saw the sight she wished she hadn't. The boy with the bright green hair was no older than she was and the look in his eyes made her want to cringe up into a ball. It struck fear inside her which was hard to do. She looked at the poor boy laying down and screaming in agony. She watched as the jounin medics were able to remove the green haired boy. Now once she knew it was all alright she exited the room, backing up until she was at the stairs and rushed down them. She was able to breath easy once she was in the lobby and she waved goodbye to the people she recognized and exited out the front door only to be stopped by the same boy who had struck fear into her only moments ago. She immediately shook her head in disagreement with him and then stood her ground. Now that she had the chance, she was going to get an answer or two. "What makes you think you can cause someone so much pain and then just run off like that without checking on his well being?" There was no telling where she got her sudden backbone but she was glad she decided to speak up as she crossed her arms across her chest. Even though she looked confident, her hands still trembled and her heart still raced.

"Huh?" he asked, allowing a scowl to flash on his face momentarily. "Look I kicked him during a spar, and the kick had hit his bone or something" the youth explained, tired of repeating that very same story. She was probably the tenth person he had to tell this to; by the ninth, he had the whole spiel down pretty well. Nagashi seemed undeniably annoyed with the whole situation and was probably annoyed at the girl herself too, all just because she had prolonged the incident further. And yet, all the while, his eyes retained a sense of cold, unwavering apathy - his signature look, so to speak. If he was indeed annoyed, only his tone of voice betrayed him. "I brought him to the hospital, with him wailing all the way here. Then he was wailing inside and then, inside the operating room" the youth's voice grew thick with annoyance, as he justified himself. It was clear that he wanted to be done with this whole incident; silence was what he craved at that very moment. "If I waited around to ask him how he was doing, he would probably start screaming again" the youth added, making a sour, half-hearted attempt at some comic relief.

Girls had never been Nagashi's strong suit. He lacked the capacity to act differently around others, and hence, unlike the vast majority of his male peers, treated girls with the same disdain and apathy he treated everyone else. Another youth in his position would have quite easily remarked that she was pretty, even if her hair was of a, in Nagashi's opinion, painfully-bright shade of pink. But he, being both proud and oblivious - the perfect anti-social mixture - only gave her a brief look, before he glanced away, evidently uninterested by anything on her person. Perhaps this was due to his failure to find anything that betrayed her role in life; her clothes, he noted, were awfully short. But that was all that Nagashi could be bothered to observe; the ninja-tool pouch on her waist was ignored, though its presence was likely recorded somewhere in the depths of his mind.

"So do you want anything else shorty?" he asked, his voice suggesting a note of amusement; he resisted the urge to pat her on the head in a patronising fashion, asimilar to that of a dad or some such adult figure. Standing there, almost a foot taller, he looked completely unimpressed, his cold golden orbs examining her cyan irises curiously. What was her next move, if any? She seemed unnerved by his person, and his rough, blunt answers wouldn't exactly increase her opinion of him.

Toraika was taken aback but only slightly but his rude tone. That was one more person being rude to her today which immediately made her self conscious. Had she been rude today and now it was all coming back to her? She didn't know and wasn't sure but she was sure ready to change his tone towards her. As he spoke she slowly grew a light blush of embarrassment of even approaching him with the subject. She could have at least asked him his name or how his day had been. She was normally so much kinder to others especially new strangers. She attempted to blame her behavior on the fact that he had hurt someone bad enough for them to suffer but she knew that gave her no right to act the way she did. She then looked up from looking at her feet with her blush then smiled sweetly towards him, showing him she was happy to be in front if him. She sighed as she blew off his height comment towards her though. She knew she was short and she was a bit sensitive about it, though at this moment she would let it slide. "I may be small, but do not underestimate me. My name is Toraika. What is yours?" She smiled the whole time up into his amber eyes. He was actually pretty cute and she was always a bit nervous around cute boys, though under these circumstances she shook the thoughts away and imagined him as hideous as she could, so that she may go on in a conversation without stuttering or babbling as she typically did. She waited for his response as she stepped a bit closer so they were not speaking as loudly as they were, now only a foot or so apart. She continuously kept eye contact having to look up to him since he was so much taller but ignored that fact as well.

It was odd, watching this girl that is. She had first displayed signs of embarrassment, a starkly-visible pink flush colouring her cheeks. Nagashi didn't think much of it - he had never considered himself... well handsome, or appealing. As such he was unaware of how capable he was of seeming attractive or appealing to others, or even if such a capacity existed; even when she blushed, he didn't consider that to be the reason. He would have much rather reasoned that she was simply embarrassed by his rudeness - girls weren't used to 'bad boys' like him. Especially polite, innocent girls like she seemed to be. Their picture of a heroic white knight was quickly dispersed in the presence of the green-headed boy.

Her smile and her inquisitive question were the things that confused him further. Was this... small talk? Had he not shown himself uninterested in the hurt-genin and that he was bothered by her person? Where was she going with this? "I'm Nagashi" he replied simply, stating his name in the most matter-of-fact manner imaginable. If she had expected more from him - a returned smile, perhaps - she would have been disappointed. He continued looked just as indifferent to her and the situation, as before. Then suddenly she shuffled towards him.

"Why are you getting closer?" he asked succinctly, his eyes watching her suspiciously, though his voice remained unalarmed. The youth was careful and, having insulted her and announced himself as inconsiderate (and ergo, an asshole) the likely reason for her increased proximity was to cause him pain - an unfortunate way to end this conversation. Nonetheless he was ready for that, even if his appearance didn't show it. "I don't do kissing and such" he added offhandedly, in hopes of scaring her away.

Toraika's eyes widened and she then crossed her arms. He thought she was trying to kiss him?! Why would he ever think that? Him being handsome was a thought but never that she actually liked him. He was not the type of boy she would like in the first place! He was rude and over confident! She definitely didn't and she wasn't quite sure how the nice way of telling him this would be. She had never kissed a boy and didn't plan to start with him! "I will have you know that neither do I... That was quite ignorant for you to assume such a thing from a girl. Not to mention rude." She stated a but timidly as she relaxed her arms at her side so that she didn't look so rude herself. She was simply trying to be kind! Why did he not want to be her friend and be so rude to her she hadn't done anything to him before. Unless he wanted to count the way she stopped him at the door. Only she was doing what she thought was right in the first place. She came to the decision that he was just a rude person or perhaps in a bad mood and that she had nothing to do with the reason he had such a mean demeanor. "You should really be kinder to people and smile more often. It can only do good, and maybe people wouldn't mistake you for a criminal when you hurt someone on accident." She stated simply. She was completely expressionless. No longer smiling or even frowning, she was determined to make him understand.

"If you say so" he remarked, his lips widening in a grin. "But then I've been told that's all girls are good for. Kissing and such" he added, the amusement evident in his tone. He wasn't serious of course, but then it was hard to gauge just what that golden-eyed boy was feeling or thinking - that was his trick. That was when the girl spoke up again, making a statement that made him chuckle. She was so naive and innocent - so very cliché - that he couldn't help but be bemused. "Surely if people mistake me for a criminal, that's their problem" he reasoned, putting on a mock-serious tone, his eyebrows creasing as if that reasoning was obvious to everyone, and not just himself. "Since they have no proof of such and I'm not a criminal, they're simply making a mistake" he added. "If they decide to take action regardless, bring it on" the youth's grin widened; the notion of battle even if hypothetical, excited him. If he had any redeeming qualities, and this was really stretching the meaning of 'redeeming', the youth was passionate about combat but had no real drive to kill his opponents. He savoured the feel of victory, but treasured a challenge over anything else, meaning that to end his opponent would be to never be challenged by that individual ever again. In his eyes, that was somewhat of a waste. He was certainly a very odd variation of a pacifist.

Toraika did not fight unless she was being attacked or someone innocent was being attacked. She hated unnecessary violence and she strongly stood against it. "Why would you not care about how someone feels about you. I understand that it is good to let people think what they want but do you honestly want people to think negatively of you?" She asked really intrigued by this boy. She was still a bit appalled by his views on women. She wasn't a feminist or anything but it was disrespectful to think of women in such a way. She looked the boy up and down trying to analyze him. She normally was a great judge of character and was able to read peoples emotions but he made it difficult. She could tell something in his past had made him this way but she would not pry in such a manner. "Where do you even expect to go now? You can go on with your day knowing you caused your comrade so much pain and agony. I understand that it was an accident but do you even care for his well being?" She asked completely at a loss for this boy. She didn't understand him at all.
