Kenji was in a deep sleep and planned to stay in it until further notice. Kenji didn’t necessarily enjoy having idle time, but he felt it gave him more freedom to design his schedule; but the genin saw no need to rush. The blue-haired shinobi was trapped in a pleasant dream when a sliver of light slipped past his blinds and disturbed him just enough to break the sleep. Kenji let out an exaggerated yawn and climbed out of bed. Kenji went on to complete two thirds of his morning routine of showering, grooming, and breakfast. The shinobi was moving slowly as he always did in the morning. For someone who possesses such great agility he is often found trudging and moving sluggishly. After an exhilarating shower he began to groom his hair as he combed it and made sure it stood up just right. Then he quickly brushed his teeth. It was something about completing these morning tasks that gave Kenji energy, these acts were the constant catalysts for Kenji.
Kenji’s was in a really good mood today, he decided there was no better time to work on his new jutsu he had been developing. A few days Kenji got into a fight on the Battle Plateau and attempted to use this new jutsu, but it wasn’t ready. When he tried to trap the person in the genjutsu, all he was able to make the opponent experience was a slight tingling sensation in their hands. Not only that, but he lost control and used more chakra than was necessary putting him at a great disadvantage for the rest of the fight. However, Kenji was still victorious as he was able to use strategy and speed to outmaneuver his opponent; enabling him to get in close and dangerously threatened the opponent with his weapon. The opponent surrendered. Kenji was not satisfied as his genjutsu; “Acidic Cloud” failed. The genin viewed it as a fluke as he was normally very skilled at manipulating and disturbing foe’s chakra, so he dismissed the failure. He did need to analyze it though to make sure it didn’t happen again. With a few alterations here and there the genjutsu would be up and running in no time.
He ate a hearty breakfast with eggs, cream, and pancakes with cream. Kenji sat at his small circular table; it had checkered pattern with a olive sheen. He remembered back when he lived in the Rice Paddy fields what he had for breakfast; maple brown sugar oatmeal, cinnamon oatmeal, plain oatmeal, and occasional grits with a rice paddy on the side. Kenji was so glad to have a little variety in his menu for a change and relished every bite he took in as he allowed the flavors and rush and caress his taste buds. Kenji, beginning to focus more on his jutsu and less on the food, while he gulped his milk the problem occurred to him. “The distance from which I triggered it” Acidic Cloud uses a very thin plume of prickly wind chakra as the trigger. Kenji became aware that the further the cloud traveled the weaker his control over it became, and he currently didn’t have enough chakra to control it adequately enough from a considerable distance. “Currently, I need to release the plume from close range to ensure trapping my prey. At a close distance I should be more than capable to disturb their chakra sufficiently so I can create the desired effect.” He was confident that he solved the problem he ran into while sparring. Now, the only thing was how he was going to experiment with his theory. “I don’t want to put some random person under this genjutsu, it’s a nasty one.” Kenji decided to leave the table and take a walk while he pondered the means he would practice his genjutsu.
Then he decided upon using it in a subtle way that it wouldn’t be clear that it was him, or if something was in proximity that could cause the same effects, he could play it off as such. The Acidic Cloud genjutsu was a genjutsu that is triggered by touch, and once trapped, the victim will experience various parts of their body burning and sizzling as if being sprinkled with acid. As the genjutsu didn’t burn with flames, but it burned with a melting quality, as if they were slowly dissolving. Kenji knew that right now he could probably only get someone to see their arms melting slightly, taking off the first layer of skin causing minor pain caused by the trauma. So he had to find a place where plume or clouds of substances were commons, and so were fire and other materials/conditions that could cause burns. As Kenji walked and greeted the villagers he saw an employee that worked at one of his favorite restaurants. It was a noodle and pork establishment, which cooked the pork right in front of you. “It seems like all that smoke is affecting his sleep schedule.” Kenji shook his head, but he slowly began to think… “The restaurant: the smoke can be used to conceal my cloud; the stoves are feasible to be thought to be the cause of burning.” It was final; Kenji was heading to the restaurant to capture an employee in a mildly disturbing genjutsu; but genin soon began to have second thoughts, “What if the guy is scarred and truly traumatized. He may never work in a restaurant again. A civilian might even go into shock and need critical medical attention.” That thought process eliminated the prospect of practicing his genjutsu on a civilian period; the genjutsu was simply too unpredictable. It wasn’t some false image or sound genjutsu, it inflicted serious pain to the untrained person.
After moments of contemplation; he figured he would ask his first challenger he faced since entering Kumogakure. It wasn’t Bokuden, he was the second, but a taijutsu specialist by the name of Juke. He had put up quite the fight, other than Bokuden he was the only person to ever really test Kenji. He made his way to his apartment hoping he was there and not at the dojo. Luckily for Kenji he was home. After presenting the proposition of letting Kenji put him under a genjutsu; he agreed reluctantly. “Alright, I’m going to release a cloud of prickly chakra that’s going to cause a tingling sensation, once you feel it, you will be in the genjutsu. Don’t worry it isn’t real, say it with me. ‘is not real’, it’s only an illusion.” Juke punched Kenji in the stomach for taking such a condescending tone “Alright, shall we begin.”
Kenji made one hand seal and began to mold wind chakra in the back of his throat. He then proceeded to sharpen it slightly, then he released it, meters away from Juke, in a plume that surround Juke’s entire body. Immediately after being caught Juke began to wince but soon got control; Kenji could feel he had total control and was able to manipulate the illusion completely. Kenji then tried to increase the range, but as he backed up the effects were rendered almost completely insignificant. “Having to be this close will be a problem.” Kenji knew he could easily find a method to circumvent the danger of being in so close with the aid of a distraction.
After Juke left to do “real” training as he put it, at the dojo. Kenji made his way to the weapon shop to browse. “I can’t wait to make somebody burn baby!” Kenji thought to himself in excitement. He was always glad to add to his arsenal; the more options he had in combat the more dangerous he felt he’d be. However, he was definitely a believer of quality over quantity; but he couldn’t see the harm in having multiple choices. He was aiming for a versatile repertoire that would enable him to be more than prepared for any situation.
