Shou

Shou

D-rank
Mission Details:

Shou had taken his fourth D-rank mission in only a couple weeks the night before without a word of complaint. There had been nothing that he had needed to ask for the mission. D-ranked missions were always spectacularly simple and he had no reason to think that this one would be any different; he had only just done a similar one with the old crone who had mistaken him and then given him that horrible simile. Sure, the D-rank missions were long and dreary tasks for the lowest ranks, but they were still simple and didn’t take much effort; they just took up time that he didn’t really care for. They were a stepping stone and all shinobi had to do at least a few in his life time. He hoped he would only have to do one more after this, though there never was any surety in ranking up, it took luck and talent. However, he was making good progress or so he thought, and he would be making it to chuunin like his brother never had. He sneered at the thought of his brother’s failure in the chuunin exams. It still amused him to no end and would continue to.

Rolling his shoulders, Shou glanced down at the mission slip again to recall the address and he set off finding the run down building quite quickly. He was anxious to be finished. This was possibly the last D-mission that he would have to do. After this mission he would have met the minimum requirement of D-ranked missions required to become a Chuunin. He loved how much progress he had made and he actually found himself smiling at the run down building that looked like it had once been host to a bar on the bottom and a simple apartment at the top but was now a residence with no commercial value. Outside there was a boy of about fourteen leaning against the door and he looked at him. If he had been how he was when he was younger, he would have felt sorry for the boy. He didn’t look very well off. He pursed his lips. “Do you live here?” Shou asked the boy and the boy shook his head before speaking.

“No, I don’t live here, but I work as an errand boy for them. They’ve gone away for a while and told me to wait here for you so that you would know what to do." The boy rifled through his pockets for a moment before pulling out a slip of parchment and handed it over, a rather long list on it with one particular thing on the list that made Shou smile. Clean the pool. Perhaps he would have some fun while working; water could never be bad even if it were something man made. The boy quickly ran off and Shou set to work.

Some of the jobs were utterly disgusting. There was grime and mildew everywhere and he wondered how they had lived in the building or if it was just something that they were renovating. Whatever the case, there was still furniture and s fully stocked kitchen, but it wasn’t his place to ask. He was relieved when he was outside again to get a breath of fresh air. Staying inside with the cleaning chemicals and mildew had been making him feel horrible. The pool wasn’t any better really. It looked like more of a mud bath than an actual pool, leaves and twigs sticking out of it.

"Well, that's annoying."So much for enjoying myself a little bit with the pool. Taking a deep breath, Shou began to clean it, using whatever he could to make sure that the disgusting water did not touch him. When he was finished, Shou felt absolutely disgusting, but relieved that the mission was finally over. He had done his best to clean all that he could, and he left a note on the front door, telling them so before leaving to go take a shower to wash off the grime. He imagined that he must have looked like a nightmare as he walked home.
