Nagare had decided to take a mission to help clean the library. He knew the librarian, Aoi, very well, because he spent much of his time renting and reading books. He and Horui stared at the shelves upon shelves of knowledge, bound together by hard covers, paper linings, words within pages and stories within words. He passed a few more shelves before reaching Aoi, who was putting returned books back into order. "Oh! Hello Nagare, and Horui! Is today the day you wanted to help?" They both nodded in response, and her gentle grin widened just a bit. "Perfect. I need to get back to the front desk, so can you please put all of these books back into place?" She gestured toward the mobile shelf that held the books she was reorganizing. Nagare smiled and said, "Of course we can, Aoi." She gave them another thank you before returning to her desk.

Horui grabbed a stool to stand on while returning books. The shelves in here were famous for their height, like great walls towering over the people in the library. Nagare starting putting the books in place, one by one. He dropped one, and bent to pick it up. The title read, "Shi No Tenrei". He curiously opened the book and flipped through the pages, scanning through the history inside. It was the holy book of the Dākuchairudo clan. He sat down, reading carefully. Specific lines shone clear to him and stood out from the rest, such as.....

We have been created by such a jump, but we are new in our entirety.

He remembered Jishin, and her beautiful eyes. He pictured her consuming a human heart, as was her clan's lifeblood. He pictured her sharp teeth ripping through flesh, tearing skin, sipping blood. He wasn't frightened, but almost amazed. It was indeed an evolutionary jump, not one typically accepted by society, but a miraculous anatomical advancement nonetheless. He stopped himself, and closed the book, placing it high on the shelf. Turning around, he noticed that Horui had already put the rest of the books back, and was waiting on Nagare to finish. Naga gave Horui a crooked smile, and they moved on to their next task; cleaning.

A mop was handed to Horui, and a duster was handed to Nagare. The two went to work, on opposite poles of the library, carefully working around fragile, ancient books, small children, busy people, concentrated readers. The scene was serene and peaceful despite the calamity manifested in cleaning. There was an urge to rush, just to finish so that you as a cleaner wouldn't be bothering people. That, and also the drive to be reading as well rather than mopping and dusting. They finished off the last corners of the silent library, and were impressed at their job. Books gleamed brand new, the floor no longer smelled of who knows what, and the entire building, inside and out, looked better than before. Aoi thanked them and offered for them to stay and read a while. They both accepted and sat down, picking up books of their own. Nagare picked up the Shi No Tenrei once again, and began scrolling through the clan history of his teammate, who was so close just yesterday, but now seemed so faraway, an enigma steeped in mystery. He longed to see her again, to learn about her, to be close with her. Emotions were rampant. This day of work had been just that, but also a day of discovery and new beginnings. The beginnings of what? That was still yet to be known.
