Above the clouds and beside the front gates a lone figure stood to cast the light of his golden eyes upon whatever awaited out in the wilderness. The clouds were gray and thick, masking the paths he wished to see down below. Dull, cold, and rough were the winds passing violently throughout the mountains. It was morning, though the sun had already risen far beyond showing its rise. There was a sense of numbness lingering within the atmosphere of Kumogakure, even above the gray clouds where only blue skies awaited. Something was off, and the young swordsman could feel it in his bones. By now the village was alive and moving, each citizen going on with their day as was expected of them. The heir looked to simply be one among the many that aimed to cruise through the weekend, and had he been asked an hour ago, he would have genuinely answered that he was doing exactly what was expected of him in his day off. Spending a bit of time for both self development in training as well as finding a few moments to relax, the day was supposed to go smoothly and allow him a few moments of leisure, a much needed break from all the missions both official and unofficial that he had been recently assigned to. Yesterday had been just that, a day free from his duties. It had been one spent pleasantly with a certain white haired woman. Now, however, his day off had been ended abruptly. A raven had greeted him along his walk towards the market district, attached to the avain's claw a letter specifically written for his eyes alone. It was a scouting mission, one that could have either been one of the utmost importance, or one completely redundant. His destination was Kaminari no Kuni’s east shorelines where mountain hermits report strange and eerie noises in small villages.

And so here he was at the front gates, awaiting the partner assigned to him for the mission. Luckily the Sasaki heir was never one to leave the Ganryu manor without his trusty twin blades strapped to each side of his hips, all he would need for any task assigned to him. Still, it was strange to be given a mission so ambiguous, especially with the increasingly greater difficulty of tasks that he had gotten used to over the course of his young shinobi career. Though he couldn't pretend to deny the possible danger in this mission. He along with a partner he still had yet to meet had been assigned to the unknown, the first round reconnaissance… anything could be waiting for them in their destination. If the worst case scenario indeed played out, the young swordsman expected a fair share of battles to come. Luckily he was itching for some action.

Body faced towards the descending mountain path, his head turned to the side with his golden pupils at their corners, awaiting his partner to come from the roads behind. According to the mission scroll, it was a man named Yammy. A genin much alike him, though aside from rank and name the scroll awarded no other details on the man. He would simply have to find out more for himself.

"Such a calm morning in the village." Yammy said to himself. It was mid-morning, as he walked leisurely through the streets of Kumogakure. It was early, yet there were children running around playing. He smiled, they reminded him of his academy days, to himself. The shopkeepers, some of which were just opening up, were taking things slow. This was one of the first times in awhile that he'd had a chance to walk through the village. Mostly all his time was spent training. Not one mission had been assigned to Yammy. One of the only times he hadn't been training he'd met, the hidden flower of Kumogakure, Ibara Senju.

"Now that I think of it. I wonder why I haven't gotten sent on a mission yet."
It wasn't as if he wasn't qualified. Given his skill set however, Yammy had no need for missions that weren't significant. All his jutsu were tailored for combat, nothing more, nothing less. What he hadn't realized, a White-tailed ptarmigan, had been released. In its possession a scroll addressed to Yammy. A hour or so had passed before the air messenger eventually found Yammy. Its shadow caught his attention, causing Yammy to look up. He held out his arm to give the ptarmigan a landing spot. The avian landed, allowing Yammy to remove the tiny scroll attached to the birds harness.

The scroll read.

We have been getting reports of odd activity by nearby smaller villages. Yammy's eyes lit up. Finally something for him to do. It gave other details, such as the name of his partner and that he was to depart today. Yammy had everything he needed with him, so he headed towards the gate. Upon reaching the gate Ymmy could he who he only assumed was Kyousuke Saski, standing on top the gate. When he got closer Yammy shouted from the ground. "You ready to get going or you busy looking at the view?" He said jokingly .He was not late nor early from what the scroll read.

It took awhile, but his partner came entering his peripheral vision as Kyousuke looked over his shoulder. The stranger was black of hair and looked to be around his age if not a bit older. Already the Sasaki heir would analyze each aspect of the boy, hoping to catch hints of his abilities. He had no weapon in his person, at least not one visible. A taijutsu expert perhaps? Though he looked far too skinny to be any sort of hand to hand combat expert, still looks could be deceiving. As far as first impressions went the boy didn't impress, he mistook a village guard standing atop the large stone gates for Kyousuke. An act that made the heir place his palm atop his face in embarrassment for the other genin. He turned his entire body towards the boy, clearing his throat as he did. Hopefully that would alert him of his mistake and bring his eyes upon the actual Kyousuke and away from the likely confused guard. He'd allow Yammy a few seconds to realize if he hadn't already, and then finally he'd speak. "You ready to get going, or are you too busy shouting at guards?" He quipped, a faint smile drawn on the corner of his lips. "Sasaki Kyousuke," He introduced. "You must be Yammy." The heir turned around, gesturing for the other genin to follow him as he began walking towards the descending mountain path. He'd move at a steady pace, just enough for Yammy to catch up until Kyousuke could finish his last sentence. "Not much time for pleasantries, as I'm sure you already know. It's best we get going just in case the worst scenario plays out." Like the mission scroll had said, only odd activity had been noticed. For all he knew it could have just been an aggressive wild animal. Either way, they'd find out soon enough.

He burst into a sprint, running and jumping down the mountain path until he'd reach the bottom. He entered the atmosphere of land, his foot making contact with the soil, it was much thicker and far easier to breathe. At first he went at it full speed before realizing his partner had been left behind. From then he'd pause, allow the other to catch up and then launch himself in another burst towards the eastern shores of Kaminari no Kuni. He led the way, more confident in his abilities than that of a stranger, though he slowed himself just enough that he wouldn't be out of sight. It made easier sense as well, he was the sensory type, though that fact would be unknown to the other unless he studied his history books. The way he saw it, the other genin was simply there as back up just in case things went south. He readied his Matagi Shingan to activate at any moment just in case any bandit decided an ambush would be a smart idea.

They passed a river, dropping down its height to close the distance to the sea level. They were getting close and he wasn't stopping there. Only a thick forest separated them from their destination now, tall trees that would hide the trail of smoke they didn't know already formed in the skies. He lowered his pace once more, the forests were an easy place to get separated, so he allowed the other to trail him easier. It came at the cost of time, but he had made the right choice, something he'd realize after they exited the treeline. His eyes were drawn to the clouds, a trail of black led in the distance. That must have been it the strange activity reported. Hopefully it was nothing more than a regular house fire breaking out, but he prepared for the worst. "Let's stick together now, prepare for an ambush." He said, eyes locked to the destination. He led the way, still moving faster than the other. Though this time he would only be a few meters ahead. He had a bad feeling in his gut.

Yammy had gotten so use to looking up when the was in thought distracted him for a moment. More than likely due to being so comfortable within the village. A voice caught his attention, just outside of the village gate. He hadn't thought of looking eye level to see Kyousuke. As Yammy came to realize he was slightly taller than the Sasaki genin. He knew nothing of his abilities. Only his name and rank from the small scroll delivered to him. He'd come to see his fellow shinobi dressed in bits of samurai armor. He also saw the weapons he brandished, two twin katana blades. That caught his attention immediately. Yammy was more of a taijutsu based shinobi.

"My bad. I get stuck in my thoughts sometimes."

Without warning Kyousuke took off down the mountain path. Yammy followed behind, not knowing the mission specifics fully. Kyousuke was faster than him, as far as speed being able to keep a solid few meters separated from Yammy. The thin air of the mountain became thicker, not as fresh, but far more earthy. The rock features became a less as, the duo came from their village at the top of the mountain. Above the clouds. Eventually they neared a river that led to the sea. Another type of life came from that sea, plants, it started as grass and turned into woods that then that became a forest thicket.

A smell began lingering in the air. It originally smelled of burning leafs. 'Hmm' Yammy thought to himself. He'd remained silent the entire time focused on the mission, not knowing if what he smelled pertained to the details he'd received on the incident. The smell became thicker and smoke drifted through the treeline. Kyouskue proposed a plan of action immediately as the smell became worse. Choosing not to slow down to Yammy's pace. Albeit he had said stick together. Their distance between each other hadn't changed much.

Eventually the small village mentioned came into view. It was set ablaze and bodies scattered across the ground, outside of their homes. Some doors wide open while somewhere completely destroyed. 'What had happened here?' Asked himself. 'What was the purpose of this. Why got to these lengths. The village isn't big. Yammy immediately began looking for survivors.' He was surprised, but sighed to himself. He put his hands in his pockets and smiled, while looking down. Someone must pay for this. He slowly moved through the homes. Maybe there is someone alive here that could tell them what happened, maybe just maybe someone lived. He remained silent. Only speaking to Kyousuke briefly before moving through the homes.

"Stay on your toes, someone may be lurking in the shadows. Watch my movements and keep your blade ready, I can bring them to you."

A struggled voice crying out from one of the homes. barely noticeable through the sound of burning homes. Yammy traced the voice and steadily moved through their home just in case the assailant was inside the home. Sprawled out in the dining room. A elderly man. His face expressing sheer terror. Using what strength he had left he would grip Yammy's arm.

"ASURA!"

He yelled with a struggled breath, unfortunately that was his last. The village had been in this state for who knows how long, the old mans ability hang on until someone arrived was amazing on its on. Yammy closed the mans eyes, laying him back down, and stood up.

Leaving out of the home it appeared that was the only person to survive this massacre, even then he faded just as help arrived. "There was someone clinging to life." Yammy said to Kyousuke as, he'd gotten closer to his comrade. "All he could say was Asura, before eventually passing." Yammy looked around at the carnage. "This place has been turned into hell. Even we don't know how long its been in this state."
He said refereeing to Kumogakure shinobi force. "Even though our village is so close, someone would actually commit a crime like this." Yammy stood there scanning the ground, trying to wrap his head around what happened to this village.

"Got any ideas Kyousuke?"
Yammy asked not knowing the two of them were being watched from the shadows. The person making sure to mask their presence in the case one of the two shinobi were able to sense him.

Immediately as he spoke to his partner chakra would be expelled from his skin. He activated his Matagi Shingan, allowing him to detect any remaining life force or suspicious chakra present within the area. It would allow him to scout ahead way before their two eyes could bear witness to the destruction that lay ahead of them. He lead the way just a few meters ahead, ready to warn Yammy of an incoming attack at a moment’s notice. As they inched closer he began to feel inklings of life, remnants of bodies just barely living. He hoped that Yammy would be knowledged in medical ninjutsu if only to save the innocent lives, but even then there were too many bodies that would need healing, to save all would be far beyond the capabilities of any genin. They were beyond help, a grim reality he would have to bear. He clenched his teeth, brows furrowed in outrage at what he felt. Soon they would arrive to the scene, the two of them together. Kyousuke’s suspicions came to life, though he had already felt it he had still some hope left that maybe he was simply just mistaken. That was not the case. The two made their sorrow known in their own way, Yammy sighing as he looked down, whilst Kyousuke closed his eyes to pay his respects and better feel the surroundings.

After a moment of silence they would both act upon which was their duty, salvage whatever life was left… if there were any, and find any trail left by the unknown perpetrators. Yammy would give out a battle plan if any foes made their presence known and after they would split up. “I’ll investigate and see what I can find.” He said, just before he and his partner would separate. The heir would immediately search for chakra residue with his Matagi Shingan. He moved towards the most ravaged parts, hoping to find that which he needed. Suddenly he would hear a scream, more the last signs of life than anything that brought danger. He remained where he was, already sensing that his partner had gone and inspected the noise far before he could. It was then that he would sense a specific chakra signature on the buildings, faint hints of ninjutsu that had caused what was once a market district to now be nothing more than rubble. He stepped closer, kneeling down to the ground and touching the chakra signature in his hand. He closed his eyes, focusing his Matagi Shingan to its greatest power. He felt it, memorized it, and then finally he locked on to its trail like a hound.

Afterwards he took the piece of rubble that he had gotten the chakra signature from and stored it within his back pouch along with his shuriken. Just in case he lost the trail it would come in handy. He walked back to his partner, eager to share the newly acquired information. As soon as they met Yammy would speak, letting Kyousuke know the last hint of life he had found. It was… unfortunate. Whoever caused such destruction would not go unpunished, Lightning’s wrath would be brought down from the heavens if need be, he would make sure of that. Now the only question was if his partner was in for the next phase. “I do,” He said, pausing to take the stone off of his pouch and show it towards Yammy. “I managed to find the chakra signature of whoever is responsible for this mess, I have a lock on his trail, hopefully it will lead us straight to him.” He paused again letting his words settle for a moment whilst he returned the stone safely to his pouch. “Now, our orders were to simply scout and return, but that doesn’t sit well with me… especially not when we can bring justice to this here and now. Are you willing to go beyond the orders?” He asked, eyes lit with determination. Whatever they did next could potentially lead to being reprimanded by the village chunins, but to him it would be worth it. He knew that if they returned now it would simply delay the inevitable and allow the culprit to walk away free. No matter what, alone or with Yammy at his back, Kyousuke knew what he had to do.

However as the two would plan out their next move, a hidden figure stood silent, presence concealed even to that of the Sasaki’s Matagi Shingan. It waited, bided its time, and listened in on the two genin’s conversation.

Yammy was a bit surprised. "No wonder you were one selected for a mission like this. I say we follow the chakra and see were it leads. If they knew this village was on fire, the Kage's Office would've expected someone to behind it. We were chosen for this mission based on our skills,so the we run into someone isn't impossible." Yammy began to stretch, preparing for what was to come. "I'll run point now. In this situation, as I stated before I'll bring them to you." He was sure what his opponents skills were, however Yammy figured based on what he's noted of Kyousukes skills, the two would work well together given whatever number of enemies. "Which direction are we going?"

Just as Yammy asked the shinboi who'd been hiding his presence chose to make himself known. He stepped from the fire with a katana in each hand. They were pointed away from him, as if he were drawing them from sheath held by someone else.

"We were hoping to not get Kumogakure involved, but it appears we have no choice. I'm going to have to dispose of you both, before you report back." It was a elderly man, who appeared to have seen countless battles. A unexpected look show on the mans face. He was smiling. "Well now this is surprising if it isn't Lagos's son." Yammy was taken back to hear his father's name mixed in with all of this. "What do you know..." Yammy asked, rather, he demanded. The man began laughing. "Far more than you kid." He paused and with  over confident smirk on his face the man said "For instance he wants you dead, well,  he want your eyes, but if you cant see you might as not be a shinobi."

Yammy became confused by the statement. "My eyes...?" The man looked to be amused by that. "Seems he hasn't told you of your lineage. Pity, with time you could've been useful." He relaxed his right hand and held up his left towards Yammy. "He appeared to not care whether you lived or died to get them from you. Such a sad man, he pays well though." The old swordsman laughed. "You find this funny?" Yammy asked with a blank, yet violent stare.
