Losers' Quarterfinals: Hattori Kashiki vs. Aburame N'Jobu TF2a3bh

Taking place at the historic Blossoming Pillars Stadium (Jūhi Dōhyō), the final rounds of the Exams forego the tricks and surprises of earlier, making way for an arena that is both iconic and neutral. In spite of a modest 25m radius, this arena is no less grand than those which preceded it, boasting stands that raise high above for observers to watch the anticipated final matches and a fighting zone where legendary heroes and Kage once fought. A dusty circle surrounded by sparse shrubs and a high wall encloses combatants, who enter from opposite ends of the arena, the crowd roars, the Chūnin Exams draw to a close.

Well, this was much farther then Kashiki had planned to get, the sun beamed down through the doorway as he pushed the huge door open. He stepped forwards, the beams of golden light shining down onto him illuminating the colorful tapestry that was his cloak. He stepped into the full embrace of the sun and the crowds began to cheer. While he wasn't the most bet upon and not the best crowdpleaser, he did make a bit of a name for himself during his fight against Makoto. He had picked up a bit of a title as the Master of the Metsubushi during that match and the crowds seemed to love him a little more.

He took a few more steps away from where he entered, leaving himself 5m from the door he entered and then took a single set of steps to the left. Once the match had begun whether by proctor interference, shouts from the crowd, or movement from his opponent he would pull his cloak off and throw it to his left, imbuing it with chakra and preparing a substitution then drop a hand down to the hilt of his blade, ready to draw. Instead of his normal straightforwards approach he would opt for a more passive strategy to begin with, his opponent's heavy outerwear could easily be hiding all sorts of weapons that would be much easier to react to if he stayed defensive.

He had made his way through several matches now. The thrill of the exams was gone and now it seemed to be more of a chore than an excitement. He had gained valuable combat experience however so the experience was not a total wash. He had been exposed to a wide variety of combat styles such as brawlers, ophidian-like body modifications, the rare magnet release, and a style that he had never seen before and could only be described as...ecclectic. He wondered just what he would be in for next as he sat in the staging area before his fight. He continued on his pre-fight ritual of checking over his gear piece by piece to ensure it's proper combat readiness. He began with his gauntlets, meticulously checking every groove and crevice to ensure there was no dirt or grime capable of jamming the firing mechanism. After cleaning his gauntlets, he moved onto inspecting his bow which was a bit less complex but still requiring a thorough inspection. He gave inspected the pulleys and string to ensure they were still taught while verifying there were no cracks in the frame which could cause the bow to malfunction mid shot. Verifying its combat readiness, he strapped the bow to his back and turned to his mantid companion and muttered, "Ready for another match S'Yan? We are getting closer to the finals". S'Yan nodded in agreement while exposing both of his raptorial front legs in the air.

The proctors would soon call the combatants to the arena where he would enter across from his opponent. The proctor would go through their usual introductions and match regulations as it went into one ear and out the other for N'Jobu. He had heard them enough to recite them by memory at this point and the extra few seconds gave him a bit to analyze his opponent who appeared to be wearing a cloak just as he was. Within a few moments, his opponent would strip off his cloak to reveal a blade hilted at his side. Given the sparseness of the arena, there would be little chance for either of them to hide without using some kind of stealth technique, although substitution techniques would be something to keep aware of as he had used in his last match to trick his opponent. As he was evaluating his opponent, he heard the word "Begin!" shouted by the proctor. His opponent would move his hand to the hilt of his sword, ready to draw when needed. Based on his actions, it would appear he was likely a close quarters combatant but he couldn't know for sure. As a method of verifying, he formed a ram sign and created clones of insects in front of him ready to do his bidding. He gently touched both of his clones on the back, infusing the one on the right with a bit of chakra to perform a substitution technique should he need it. With his substitution prepped he would have a few more options to take on his opponent. He moved forward about 21m towards the center of the arena at 7m/s with each of his clones flanking him 1m behind him, moving at his pace to mask their true speed. Upon reaching the center of the arena, he would grab his bow from his back with his left hand and grab an arrow from its sheath from with his right. Within another fluid motion, he would knock, draw, and loose an arrow headed straight toward his opponents center of mass traveling at 35m/s. This shot, however, was simply a ruse however to get his opponent to distract his opponent from his companion digging into the ground beneath N'Jobu laying a trap should his opponent move toward him.

Kashiki threw his cloak to the side, the glorious myriad of colors catching the light in a stunning display before it drifted to the ground. His opponent performed some kind of clone technique, two copies of his opponent stood beside him one on each side. The trio ran towards the center of the arena and Kashiki followed suit, moving about 2m/second faster then his opponent. The instant Kashiki began running towards the middle he would form his hands into seals, performing the hand seals for Still Wind Cloaking, Lesser Hellfire Cloak, and Locomotion Sight in that order. He would make a slight turn, arriving at his opponent's left shoulder and performing a leg sweep to at the least knock his opponent off balance but aiming to take him off his feet. While performing the leg sweep his hands would perform the hand seals for Unseen Earthen Volcano, if his opponent took the hit or was knocked off his feet he would activate the jutsu then and there but if he detected the attack and lept into the air Kashiki would follow, trying to be within arms reach of his opponent's landing area just before his opponent landed before activating the jutsu. From there Kashiki would, instead of drawing his sword, draw to kunai holding one in each hand and prepare himself for his opponent's next moves.

As N'Jobu dashed forward, his opponent responded in kind by dashing forward towards the center of the arena. Kashiki would begin to make hand seals as he disappeared from N'Jobu's sight temporarily leaving behind a blurry visage, but was quickly discovered by his two clones behind him who were able to see him clearly through his jutsu. Soon Kashiki would be engulfed in reddish purple flames, forming a cloak around him decorated with a tengu-like mask across his face. "Katon...not good," he thought to himself before they would soon clash.  "I need to end this fast...". The two parties would soon meet near the center of the arena where S'Yan would scurry into the ground to spring his trap upon his opponent should he get too close. Although he could not tell his opponent's exact location by himself, he could communicate with his clones to quickly relay his opponent's position and prepared for a counter attack. Given the timing, he would not be able to pull his bow and fire it as a distraction as he intended so he would need another form of distraction to lull his opponent into a false sense of security. Both parties would arrive at the center of the arena with Kashiki moving quickly to intercept N'Jobu as he turned in his path to attack from the left-hand side. With his clone able to clearly see his tengu-like opponent before him, he was signaled to dodge by jumping upwards over the attempted leg sweep. The clone on the right would continue past his opponent heading towards the opposite side of the arena uninhibited by his opponent leaving N'Jobu and his left flanking clone to deal with Kashiki. Knowing it was likely possible for his opponent to use the substitution technique just as he would, he would need to be very careful to not expend precious resources to be tricked. Given his opponent's entry from the opposite side, it was likely they may have set something up on that side of the arena given the shrubbery on the side of the arena which his previous opponent had made extensive use of. His right clone would stop about 10m from the back wall, maintaining its distance should N'Jobu need to quickly retreat and get away from a sneak attack and also give his clone an ample vantage point to deal with the current engagement along with any escapes his opponent may have.

With N'Jobu in the air, Kashiki would pull two kunai from his side ready to plunge them into his opposition. With his opponent slightly distracted, the left-hand clone would pull the clone bow from its back, draw it, and let loose an arrow of insects aimed at his feet flying at 35m/s before fading away, making it nearly for Kashiki to dodge given the short distance of around one-two meters from the current engagement. The arrow would hold him in place leaving him open to attack even if he could somehow break from the trap that S'Yan was about to spring.  While this was occurring, S'Yan would burst his legs from the ground and begin to pull his opponent down into the earth as the real N'Jobu would cock back his left hand and thrust it forward activating his blank feed ammunition launching him backward at 10m/s, immediately activating his chitin armor as he clapped his hands together forming the tiger seal before firing two bullets of insects at his opponent intended to drain his chakra and eat his flesh. He would fly backward about 5m before landing on the ground and regaining his footing where he could plant his back foot giving him enough leverage to cock back his right hand and thrust it forward aimed at his opponents head. The ground was all of a sudden flaring hot as the chitin armor surrounding his body, cracked and broke absorbing the heat of the ground below. With the heat of the ground absorbed into his shield leaving him vulnerable and exposed, his mind immediately went to his companion S'Yan. "Oh no,...". The flare feed ammunition would fly forward at 20m/s and explode on impact likely causing serious injury if he was able to penetrate his opponent's defenses. After this, he would bide his time and see his opponents reaction and proceed accordingly. The fight was stacked against him given his opponent's use of Katon so he would need to be perfect from now on in order to win.

Kashiki dashed towards his opponent drifting through the air, reaching where his opponent was going to land just before he did. He slammed activated the Unseen Earthen Volcano technique as a clawed grasp gripped his leg, stemmed off by the cloak of fire that protected him. An instant after the attempted grapple a storm of insects collided with the fiery armor, only a few making it in. The insects drained his chakra but not his will, and his gaze snapped back to N'jobu who was sailing through the air, a coating of glossy chitin covering his body. 'Must be a defense of some sort, I got just the thing for that." He thought as his hands wove the seals for the Cleansing Winds Jutsu. A pulse of chakra coursed through the air, moving at double the speed he was and aimed directly at him.

The Cleansing Winds technique collided with N'jobu, but all that was left was a puff of smoke and... N'jobu? As "N'jobu's" feet hit the ground heat poured out of the ground, incinerating the insect clone that Kashiki had though was his opponent. Bewildered Kashiki began looking around frantically. 'What the hell just happened' he thought as he spotted the real N'jobu standing behind him, looking equally bewildered, and resting behind him was the colorful poncho resting on the ground. Kashiki activated the substitution, moving himself behind his opponent and causing his poncho to flutter through the air, most likely distracting his opponent. Kashiki drew a kunai and slunk behind his opponent, grabbing him on the shoulder and bringing the small knife to his throat.

"GG mate" Kashiki said as he deactivated the Still Wind Cloaking Technique, causing his body to suddenly become visible to the crowds and more importantly, his opponent. His opponent would make an offer Kashiki couldn't resist, a blood free match in exchange for the life of his pet. "Of course, I'd hate for your little guy to get anymore toasty then he already is, sorry about that by the way. Personally I don't really like hurting animals." Kashiki would answer as he ended the Unseen Earthen Volcano technique and allowed his opponent to go free.

Kashiki nodded to him then turned to the door to leave. He honestly didn't expect to make it this far, these people were easily stronger then him and somehow he just kept coming out on top.

As he floated through the air he felt a strange chakra presence attacking him, prompting him to activate the substitution technique with the clone behind his opponent. Reappearing from a puff of smoke he watched as his original clone was incinerated by the floor in the radius around Kashiki. Before he could prepare an attack, he heard the painful shriek of his trusty companion, distracting him long enough for his opponent to sneak up upon him. He felt a hand upon his shoulder with a blade to his throat before hearing the words, "GG mate" in his ear. At this moment he realized he had lost but it did not concern him. He was more concerned about his partner and offered to simply concerned if his opponent would simply deactivate his technique so that he could retrieve S'Yan. As expected his opponent took the offer without much resistance and deactivated the technique which prompted N'Jobu to shout out "I concede" to the proctor who would announce the victor of the match being Kashiki. N'Jobu rushed over to the area which S'Yan was and retrieved him. He was badly burned and clinging on to life as N'Jobu rushed him to the medical center in the arena. He used his insects in an attempt to heal him but would need more help from the medical division to ensure his rare friend would survive this encounter. "Sorry little guy, Let's get you patched up..." he said to his companion with sadness in his voice that he failed to protect him better.
