Round Five: Seiker Taiho vs. Yasubei TF2a3bh

Taking place at the historic Blossoming Pillars Stadium (Jūhi Dōhyō), the final rounds of the Exams forego the tricks and surprises of earlier, making way for an arena that is both iconic and neutral. In spite of a modest 25m radius, this arena is no less grand than those which preceded it, boasting stands that raise high above for observers to watch the anticipated final matches and a fighting zone where legendary heroes and Kage once fought. A dusty circle surrounded by sparse shrubs and a high wall encloses combatants, who enter from opposite ends of the arena, the crowd roars, the Chūnin Exams draw to a close.

The Boxer
For the fourth time in a month Taiho stood in an arena by himself. The roar of the crowds above and around him deafening and shaking the waiting area with their excitement. The spectacle of everything had worn off a round or two ago, the stress and energy expended had been far too high for him to even consider such a thing worth it any more. After his mental collapse, he had finally realized that there would be nothing left for him to worry about. He knew now that his village cared deeply, the high ranked ninja Taeru having comforted him the round before his previous one on his hang ups after his rather strong emotional outburst. It was comforting in a way, to know that he had the backing of everyone back home. His performance so far in the exams having been so exemplary that he was being touted as one of the next great leaders. He didn’t honestly know how to take such praise, but he knew that from this moment forward he would work hard to make his teacher proud, no matter what it would take.

And so as he stepped out into the stadium, the growing roar of the crowd seemingly deafening him as he approached the shinobi in the center. It seemed the format and the stages had changed with the entry into the later stages of the tournament. The stakes were higher, and the variability of the fights seemed to drop drastically. No more would random factors play an issue in how a fight turned out. From this point forward it would all be dependent on how the fighters were able to prepare and handle the situations presented them. Taiho would keep this in mind as he steadied himself, drawing himself into his stance he would stand ten meters from center, and ten meters from the shinobi that would initiate the fight. His opponent would also likely have to stop the same distance, considering it was necessary for the fight to begin. He would curl his fingers into a loose grip, flexing them softly in time with his breathing as he awaited the signal to begin.

Yasubei stepped into the rumbling field, briefly his eyes scanned the massive walls of strangers. They were waiting for another spectacle. The palpable excitement shook the very stadium that the genin had walked into. Men and women standing in their seats yelled into the arena below. They were here two see two fledgling shinobi duking it out, and they were now starting to see gems in the rough be separated from the others. Though there had been a significant number of forfeits throughout the exams, both participants showed up to this match, so the crowd was stoked to get what they'd come here for.

The genin would take a couple of steps through the sparse tree line and deeper into the stage proper, letting the sandy soil work its way in between his toes. Yasu's white coat and alabaster hair floated into the wind as his opponent worked his way towards the center of the stage. He'd tighten his grip on the massive fan in his hand tilting it back slightly as he prepared to swing it. He'd not heard a proctor tell him to start, but he didn't plan on waiting for one. His target was in front of him, so there was no need to wait, the conditions were more than suitable for the fight to start.

Five meters away from his entrance, Yasubei would test all of the repairs he'd done to himself, cracking the joints in his hands and neck one last time. His newest puppet would hop off of its master's back an array of strings that came from inside of Yasu's right sleeve attached to its back animating it. Yasu would slightly lift his right hand and the little puppet would dash forward in an arc towards the other genin moving at 19 m/s with the aid of the extra chakra Yasu gave it, it would aim arrive on Taiho's left side, so the three of them could make a ninety degree angle with the blonde being the corner. The Little Tiger would reel back its hand and as it got within striking range it would attempt a vicious strike with its right hand to Taiho's left achilles tendon. The little puppet's tail would aim to wrap around the nin's right arm moving at 20 m/s once the puppet got within a meter.

His body vibrated with excited energy. The roar of the crowd seemingly breathing new life into him as his mind cleared and his body sharpened. His intent seemed to focus solely on the fight at hand as his opponent approached from brush line. Due to the rather expansive and sparse arena, there wasn’t much locale to hide with, meaning the battle would be as straightforward as it could be. His fingers clinched as his opponent deemed it necessary to start the battle from a distance, a trend that seemingly has now been continued even with a change in format. It was something that Taiho understood and begrudgingly accepted, no longer putting thought or frustration into his opponents lack of courtesy for the spectacle of the exams.

Smiling through this however, Taiho was already fully prepared, the chakra armor covering his body, crystallizing and protecting his skin and body from damage. He didn’t have to do much to counter his opponents actions, the young male seemingly taking a backseat to a smaller figures approach. Letting out an exasperated sigh, Taiho would push off his right foot, dashing forward towards his stationary opponent. He was once again tasked with chasing down a ranged fighter. The little puppet would be ignored for now, the lack of threat that it provided was obvious when the thing attempted to slash and grab at him. The small tail wrapping itself around his right arm. There was no power behind the gesture however, the prehensile tail lacked any weight or power behind it to stop or slow his actions as he quickly moved to cross the distance between them. He would proceed forward at this opponent at a steady pace of seven meters per second until he was at least five meters away unless he was given a reason to stop.

As his puppet came into contact with his opponent, Yasubei would stand almost motionless. It would seem as though his opponent had some sort of armor or defensive jutsu that completely blocked his Little Tiger's attack. There was no way to be completely certain which one it was without spending even more chakra, so Yasu would let his puppet do all of the work. He did notice though a slight smirk spread across his opponent's face as he pushed off with his right foot. Yasu watched for just a moment getting a mental image of his opponent's gait as he dropped his fan, reached behind his back and threw a Fuma shuriken at the incoming ninja, letting it unfurl and rotate during the swing. Yasu would attach a chakra string to have it curve towards Taiho if the blonde genin were to move or be moved out the path. The shuriken would be aimed straight for the blonde's neck, so that if he were to stop and dodge he'd be off balance for his puppet's assault. 20-25 meters was optimal distance for Yasu when fighting a hard to damage opponent, so he was ready to make distance if his opponent got to close.

Simultaneously with the above actions Yasu was taking the Little tiger was acting as well, as the Little Tiger made contact with the shinobi's ankle it bounced off almost like a pebble off of armor. It wouldn't stop there though it would dig clawed feet deep into the ground beneath pouncing forward with Taiho except the little tiger would go between its opponent's legs mid stride at 21 meters per second. Its tail would maintain its grip as the finger like ends tightly held onto the gauntlet and the tail almost seemed to grow. The puppet would cross over Taiho's path, ending up in front of the genin and to the right. This should have been enough to trip up an opponent who was unaware of the puppet or paying it no mind, but Yasu assumed the best of his opponents and proceeded to have the puppet retract its tail pulling the genin's right hand around his left hip and beneath his legs as the puppet's claws on its feet sank 2.5 inches into the dense ground. If this maneuver were successful it would flip the its target backwards. The Little Tiger would take advantage of that success hopping onto the genin's left leg and tying it's tail around that limb as well. Otherwise the Little Tiger would use its anchored position to keep the other genin from advancing.

The actions of the small fox thing did not go unnoticed for Taiho, considering he had the small animal, puppet things tail wrapped around his arm. It wasn’t difficult for him to step out of the small beasts attempts at wrapping around his legs, it’s inability to stick to him due to its own fur like disposition as well as his rather baggy martial artists pants meant that by time small fox thing had deemed it necessary to finish the loop around and grab the earth to trip him, he had already stepped out of its trap. Regardless, due to the equal strength of both himself and the small pet thing being well, a small pet thing with no real weight or actual control over the positioning of his body, it wasn’t difficult to keep his arm from being yanked to the side and across his body. Of course he still had to fight the action in general, his arm flexing as he turned his body around to the left to position himself properly giving him not only leverage, but balance as he planted his feet solidly on the earth.

He would ignore the shuriken, the weapon bouncing off the side of his neck with no issue as he focused on the small fox for now, keeping an eye out for the primary puppeteer to make sure that his opponent didn’t pull any funny stuff as he grabbed onto the tail with his other hand to begin trying to pull it off of him. Unfortunately for himself he hadn’t been able to make it that far, only five meters from his initial position, but it was better than anything, and if he was at least able to get through the first of these trials, he likely should be able to get through others as well.

The Little Tiger would be pulling on Taiho with all of its strength, if its opponent were to let up on his stance or stop pulling even for a moment the puppet would use that moment to its advantage throwing the ninja over its shoulder or at the very least pinning the ninja to the ground. With each moment the two spent tugging at each other the the Little Tiger would be attempting to retract its tail. Pulling on it now with both of its tiny, clawed hands. The grappled ninja though seemed rather capable of matching the puppet's strength a feat that Yasu was easily surprised by. The little guy wouldn't give any leeway or slack for the untangled Taiho to act. If Taiho were to move his center of gravity the Little Tiger would use that advantage to force Taiho onto the ground. The puppet would make sure to contest with enough force that someone with similar strength would have to give their all as well to resist.

The fuma shuriken flying towards Taiho had two purposes. First to figure out if Taiho was using a Self enhancement type justu to defend himself, and if not to force the ninja off balance. The second purpose was to create a blind spot for Yasu to attack from behind. Regardless of their nature all defenses could be broken. This was a universal truth in Yasubei's mind. His goal was to pierce his opponent and their jutsu. As the shuriken hit the blades diverted their momentum slightly by collapsing and the fuma shuriken closing like a paper fan put itself between Yasu's body and Taiho's eye's just inches away from Taiho's face remaining there for the majority of a second before changing its direction and being pulled back with the chakra string emerging from Yasu's sleeve. He'd navigate it low to the ground to avoid collisions.

As the fuma shuriken made contact Yasubei's hair would spring to life growing down his back like a white mane as he got just within 19 meters of his target, and simultaneously ten senbon shaped clusters of hair would shoot out of the mane aiming for major joints and organs; both ankles, both knees, one at the liver, both shoulders, left elbow and wrist, and one at the jugular. The senbon flew at 15 m/s meaning they would arrive before the fuma shuriken would stop blocking the ninja's view. Yasu still wouldn't stop there, he would focus chakra into his horn and a blast a vicious stream of water at 45 m/s at his opponent. It would start a little wide to Taiho's left before attempting to pierce the genin's thigh causing a long 2.5 inch deep cut. Yasu would track Taiho following until he hit.

The fact that the large bladed weapon had bounced off his body had seemed to catch his opponents attention, the young man moving forward underneath the guise of the fuuma shuriken seemingly blocking his vision. It wasn’t hard to notice the boy’s movements as the weapon impacted with his defenses, the action catching his eye as Taiho grew tired of the fox thing that had grown attached to his right arm. A shout of exertion would punctuate the battle as his opponent closed a distance sufficient enough for himself to unleash a rather impressive number of attacks, something he normally wouldn’t be able to deal with but with a grunt of effort and the grip of the fox puppet loosening due to the power of its mighty claws slicing through the earth like hot butter, he was able to swing it directly into the way of most of the incoming needles as well as use its body to knock aside the incoming water projectile. Considering that once the fox had left the earth it would no longer have leverage to move aside from using its tail to pull itself closer, something that its owner wouldn’t be able to manage having unleashed a barrage of attacks at the same time as he slung the poor thing, the puppet would likely be severely damaged in the barrage, taking most of the damage for Taiho as the remainder of the needles bounced harmlessly off his defenses.

His opponent had brought himself closer to him, the action not unnoticed as he stared down his opponent with a heavy heart beat in his ears. The roar of the crowd singing praises of the exchange as the two tried their hardest to bring down their opponent before the ending bell sang.

As Taiho puller on the Little Tiger the meager earth that had held him firmly in placed proved too weak to support him. The genin, giving a sudden jerk, dislodged the puppet from the very ground it had anchored itself to. Yasu eyes, for but a moment widened in surprise before the narrowed and he refocused, allowing the puppet's tail to extend as the puppet reached out once more, this time with a hand, grabbing firmly onto the earth before it could be flailed around. In a cart wheel-like motion, partially caused from when it was initially pulled by its tail, the puppet planted itself firmly on the ground re-establishing its hold on the ground long enough to right itself. The excess tail would extend with the taijutsu specialists hand now like measuring tape as long as he moved under 20 m/s, Yasu having learned from his mistake.

Yasu wouldn't and couldn't stop his techniques they would still hit true against his opponent's defense dispelling it and piercing through, without the proper measures being taken to stop it completely, cutting two and a half inches into Taiho's thigh. Catching his fuma shuriken in his right hand the puppet-nin would leap back towards his fan. Immediately after regaining its footing the Little Tiger would repeat the same thing it had been doing, holding firmly to the ground and making the blonde genin's life harder.  Yasu's beam of water would stop momentarily, Yasu instead sending a barrage of psuedo-senbon for Taiho to dodge. Four senbon made of water moving at 35 m/s for Taiho's left leg, each able to pierce 2.5 inches, and ten made of hair aimed for Taiho's chest, each able to pierce 3/4 of an inch.

The Boxer
Watching the small tiger thing somehow roll about before re-establishing the ground it had lost had amazed Taiho, but the slack that he had been given was more than enough for him to act and properly react to the situation. Time slowed down for the young blonde, the fight seemingly slipping between his fingers again. He had promised Taeru victory. He had promised Iwa that he would carry the torch, but as time seemingly began to elongate, he realized, his promises were about to go unfulfilled. His breathing hitched in his chest as the pain of failure once again stabbed through him, the hurt and irritation of once again letting down those who had placed their trust and will into him only to be disappointed yet again. It was become far too often of a trait of his character that he seemingly was incapable of keeping a promise. It wasn’t even a difficult promise. Just bring the village victory, that’s it.

So why. Why did he have to continually fail. Why were the obstacles placed in his path so insurmountable that he just could not overcome them. Were these people better than him? Were they better prepared? Maybe his mental strength wasn’t enough. What was it that prevented him from seeing, from reacting, from doing what needed to be done. His fear, anger and rage spiked. Teeth bared themselves against his gums as he roared out in anguish and anger. This should not be happening, this shouldn’t be happening yet again. His everything lashed out in anger and defiance. He knew that if used this move again he would likely be disqualified, but he didn’t care. He wouldn’t be stopped, he wouldn’t lose again. His chakra bubbled and roiled dangerously, his eyes dulled until they turned a rustic mahogany.

His arm seemingly wrenched itself from the hold the Tiger held on him as his chakra spiked suddenly before condensing itself. He ignored the feeling of his defenses falling from the jutsu impacting it. Thankfully the defense took the entirety of the first round of techniques, however the sight of his target launching yet another volley was all it took for Taiho to snap. His dull red eyes spiking to a bright red as the hyper condensed chakra in his chest burst forth, filling his tenketsu with burning, raging chakra that tore out of his body like a shockwave of death.

It took him a minute to realize what he had done, but by then it had been too late. His body had already been subdued and his opponents techniques had been dispersed harmlessly. His body continued to struggle against the restraints however deep down he knew it was over. It was only the comfort that even with this his promotion had been guaranteed, but that didn’t take away the sting of disappointment that followed him closely. He wouldn’t be able to live this down. This disappointment was far too strong. He couldn’t even save face by conceding. He just accepted his fate eventually and cried to himself under the protection his long golden blue bangs provided him.
