Train-wrecked. (Maik vs Takao, Round 1) D6ehE4O

Train-wrecked. (Maik vs Takao, Round 1) UjMGmQZ
Located at the site of one of Konoha’s newly minted railway depots, this arena takes place atop the hustle and bustle of moving train cars. Tunnels on all sides of the arena allow trains to pass to and fro through the arena at high speeds, with each train only remaining within the battleground for a single posting round before making it necessary to jump to a new train. Chakra barrier configurations prevent contestants from leaving or entering the tunnels designed for the locomotives, and in this arena, touching the ground means disqualification.

The day was rife with festivities, and the exams were in full swing. For many, this was a time of celebration, as it was not uncommon for residents of the famed Land of Fire to use even the smallest modicum of reasoning to celebrate and party. The organized and institutionalized death-battle in which greenhorn shinobi were pit against each other for not only the prospect of progression but the entertainment of others as well was as good of a reason as any.

On this particular mid-autumn day, several of the arenas had been occupied by hordes of screaming pedestrians and shinobi alike, all gathered to watch the plethora of exhibition matches that would precede the main event in a few days time. Takao himself had stood in the stands, watching the matches at each level, from the low-skilled genin to the explosive battles of Jōnin that left their arenas scarred and irreparable. But now, it was his turn to participate.

Just as he had in the previous exams, Takao elected for a hand-to-hand only exhibition match. His method of fighting was far too explosive and destructive for the small arenas, and going ‘all out’ would surely risk the thousands of onlookers.

His name and another’s were announced as the next bouts and, just as the crowd had done to each fight before them, the audience erupted into a roar of cheering and shouting, eager to see the next fight. Takao had long since slipped from the stands to the preparation rooms. He hadn’t the need for gear in this fight, thus he donned only his shinobi slacks, trademark boots, and black tank undershirt, leaving his myriad of equipment behind.

Takao stepped out of the hallway leading into the arenas and stopped at the raised platform. Before him stood a hundred meters of flat land encircled by tall cement walls. Spaced evenly apart from one another were twenty-four openings, and from the darkness of these openings, twelve perfectly straight train-tracks ran from end to end. Each track looped to the next on its left side, alternating parallel in the walls on the opposite side, to connect the twelve tracks into one, and allow the trains upon the track to run their course without the need to pause, not unlike how multiple electrons would circle an atom on their tracks. Looking down beneath him, he could see a large steam train with four cars, each measuring approximately ten meters long and four meters wide.

He was only given that moment to assess his surroundings before the proctor announced the start of the battle and the four trains began to move, blowing their whistles and setting the engines alight as the wheels began to turn. Takao didn’t hesitate and leapt from the platform nearly ten meters up, landing with a hard thud on the metal train roof and denting it slightly under his weight. Maintaining his balance on the moving platform was of little issue, and his black eyes were set upon his destination. On the other side, another train was beginning to pass under his opponent, and they would cross at the intersection, allowing the one to board the other’s vessel and begin their bout.

Maikumaru spent his time in the preparation room. He had been on the edge of his seat, watching his fellow and greener Hidden Stone Shinobi compete in the exams. For the past few days, he had spent his time prepping the young Genin in the Training Grounds, teaching them about hand to hand combat. He gave them lessons about being creative and opportunistic in a fight. But within the past few days, he had gotten antsy. Maikumaru was hungry for a battle for his own. When he had heard about the exhibition matches, he was very eager to sign up. He wasn’t told of who he was fighting, which made him all the more excited. However he was told that the battle would be taken place in a Railyard, with a “Floor is lava” stipulation.

Maikumaru was in the preparation room, seperate from his opponent’s. He warmed himself up, lifting the weights that were there and slugging at a punching bag. He had to show Konoha what a real Stone Warrior was made of. His slow and methodical punches created loud smacks against the bag. When it was almost time, he got himself ready. He reached for the floor, and grabbed his Championship Belt, with the silver symbol of Iwagakure as the faceplate. He strapped it on his waist. He looked at the hallway. He slapped himself in the face repeatedly, in an effort to pump himself up. “LETS! FRIGGIN! DO! THIS!” He pumped his fists, and jogged down the hallway, slicking his white hair back with his hands. He had a feeling of freshness and exhilaration. His large bulky and muscular build rose up to the platform. The first thing he looked at was the large arena. There were train tracks, twelve of them that escaped the tunnels that supposedly had chakra Berries. They all came together at the center of the Arena. After looking below him, he got a glimpse of a drawing. On the edge of the platform, there was a crudely drawn image of male genitalia. Below it, there was writing that said “big floppy weiner”. Maikumaru giggled accordingly.

Maikumaru heard the noise of train cars starting up. One slowly came from under Maikumaru’s feet. As soon as he jumped on it, the train sped forward at extreme speed, causing Maikumaru to jerk back, and fall to on the roof of the car. When the car was under the platform of his opponent, he was able to get a better look at him. Once his opponent would get on the train, it would slowly start to move backwards. “Takao Kimura. I’ve heard of you. The Boy Hokage.” Maikumaru would get up and clench his fists, going in a boxing stance. He shuffled only slightly, unsure of when the train would go on another sporadic burst of speed. “I never knew why your village couldn’t get an actual adult to be Commander in Chief at the time.” Maikumaru wore a smirk on his face, inwardly giving himself acknowledgment. Heh. That was a sick burn. Cooled him off with that shade.

When the pair of trains were close enough at the intersection, Takao hopped from his and onto Maikumaru’s, standing at the very opposite end. Only then, after Takao had boarded the vessel that would act as the battleground for their first exchange of blows, did Maikumaru speak and taunt him. This was a tactic he was not unfamiliar with in the slightest, he had even indulged in such methodology when he was younger and less experienced. Against an opponent whose pride outweighed his desire to win, it was a powerful weapon. But Takao was focused. His attention to his goal was unwavering and stalwart.

He wanted to win.

“Maikumaru Otsuka,” Takao said, repeating the name he had heard the announcer call out prior to the match beginning.

“I’ve never heard of you.”

He began by walking forward, taking leisurely yet calculated steps across the steel roof of the train car. The lazy hops that carried him from one car to the next were careful as well, even at the distance they stood, he was unwilling to reveal openings to his opponent so early. He figured himself to be at a disadvantage, to at least some degree, if his opponent did know of him. The level of intimacy was the question that shifted the balance of this advantage, or apparently lack thereof. If Maikumaru knew of him, then he may know how he fought, whereas Takao knew little of his opponent and had to read him on the spot as well as in the heat of battle.

“You insult yourself. The first time the world will hear your name is when they talk about how you were beaten to a pulp by the Boy Hokage. But don’t worry, at the very least...” He said as the train picked up speed, reaching its peak within seconds, and the hiss of air in his ears grew louder. The lopsided smile on his face grew as his walking pace hastened, quickly transitioning into a run as he leapt between the gaps of the cars that separated them.

“I’ll make it a good show for everybody!” He said, landing on the final train car and approached Maikumaru. He dropped into a slide and extended his right foot outward, moving at a fairly threatening speed, and terrorizing Maikumaru with an unpleasant strike to his left foot’s ankle if the strike landed true.

His plan of action was not so shallow that it started and ended with the slide. If Maikumaru took to the air, he would find Takao’s right arm coming down to brace his body on the train and his left leg extending for a second kick, aimed for his airborne center of gravity. If he simply backpedalled or side-stepped whilst still within range, Takao would halt his momentum at what would have been the point of contact and swing one leg up and down, utilizing the momentum to swing his legs further and fan them outward, effectively windmilling his legs outward to deter retaliation and give himself enough time to transition from the windmill manoeuvre back onto his feet.

The train had started to move noticeably faster, causing Maikumaru to slightly loose his balance before recovering. While he noticed his opponent started running, he clenched his fist, expecting an attack at his upper body. “Heh, I’ll beat you into juice!” Calculating the speed he was coming at, Maikumaru attempted to use his superior reach, and move from a swift jab as soon as he was in range. However, what he didn’t expect was for his opponent to drop into a slide, and move for an attack at his ankle. Maikumaru threw the jab, but as he did so, he felt a pain in his ankle. He winced, and let out a loud yelp. The force of the attaack and the movement of the train had caused Maikumaru to fall forward, onto Takao. While doing so, he moved his body to the side, causing his left shoulder to face Takao. Rather than out of an offensive attack, this course of action was mearly a reaction to mitigate damage he would have taken from falling. But as he had his forearm out, if Takao didn’t move, his face would be getting close and personal with a Forearm Smash. Of course the damage wouldn’t be too sever, despite Maikumaru’s falling weight going into his forearm. Regardless if it hit or not, as soon as impact was made, Maikumaru would roll to the side, and momentarily clutch his ankle before getting up, and stepping away from Takao to assess his situation. Maikumaru would move quick to try to recover faster than he did. He looked to the right to see that a train was moving at relatively the same speed as the one they were on, and at the same distance from the cross.

He lightly shook his ankle while going back into a boxing stance, waiting for Takao to get back up. A smirk creeped on Maikumaru’s face. No one in the entire arena was going to enjoy this fight more than Maikumaru. He would throw hooks at Takao, his body weaving in the direction that his punches were going, from left to right, to push his bodyweight into each strike. He would only use this strategy for a very short time, especially if Maikumaru Takao had started to block his attack. Maikumaru would then drop to one knee and grab Takao’s legs, hugging them together. Maikumaru would rush his body upward, still holding Takao’s legs, and fall backwards, onto his back. With Maikumaru’s added height, the Flapjack would be a more damaging ability. The train had started to move slowly, green lighting Maikumaru’s opportunity. As soon as the impact of the flapjack was made, Maikumaru continued to attempt to maintain the hold on to Takao’s legs while getting up by spinning to his stomach. Maikumaru would then spin around to gain momentum, and eventually throw Takao atop the other stopping train. As soon as that happened, the other train started to pick up speed. Maikumaru ran towards it, jumping on it, but falling short and landing on the side, his finger grasping on the edge. He looked down to see the moving ground, and twitched. Maikumaru would prop the soles of his sandals against the side of the speeding train.

Train-wrecked. (Maik vs Takao, Round 1) D6ehE4O

Takao felt the slightest bit of give beneath the heel of his foot, indicating a hit, as his cold eyes watched the punch Maikumaru swung just before the slide miss entirely. Still fully in control of his body, the falling form of his large Iwagakure opponent was evaded with a stiff push with his right, causing him to roll to the side. His momentum was caught with both hands and briefly retarded, allowing his core muscles to tense and his arms to flex, lifting himself from the rolling momentum into a hand stand. With his position, where neither Maikumaru nor himself were in particularly optimal position to strike, Takao utilized his practice in unorthodox striking methods to swing his right foot down at his prone opponent like an ax. But, as he did so, Maikumaru had rolled out of the way and clutched his ankle, leaving Takao’s foot to slam into the roof of the train. The car itself crumbled under the force of the strike, twisting and buckling where his heel made impact, and lifting the outermost wheels off the track for a moment.

Takao recovered from the strike in time with Maikumaru’s stance and lifted his own hands, utilizing the flurry of jabs as an opportunity to read his opponent, searching for patterns and tells, and finding some semblance of telegraphy in the way his body weaved into each strike, granting him some level of insight on which strike would follow. Some blows he evaded entirely, others he blocked with the back of his forearm or deflected their force enough to avoid damage, while others struck proper and were shrugged off. There would be bruises to tell the story later, but for now, it was nothing that would act as a detriment.

Expecting another jab, Takao’s guard rose, but instead, Maikumaru dropped to a knee and bound his legs. With an audible grunt, Takao’s arm rose and his elbow poised to strike, swinging downward for the base of the back of Maikumaru’s neck, but this attempt as breaking the hold was interrupted by Maikumaru swinging him forward and threatening his face with an unpleasant blow to the roof of the crumbled train car. Opting to defend himself rather than fulfil the strike and make his attempt at breaking the hold, Takao’s arms rose to guard his face as he slammed into the train car, eliciting a deep grunt from within his chest.

The sound of an approaching train filled his ears, and then the whir of wind and movement afterwards as Maikumaru maintained the hold on his legs before he mustered up a reaction, and he was thrown onto the other train. The space gave him ample time to correct his balance and flip back onto his feet, skidding on the fresh metallic surface of the new train car in time to watch his opponent leap and nearly miss the swap from train to train, grasping onto the sloped edge to prevent his fall.

Takao approached-- it was an easy win for him to simply slam the sole of his foot onto his opponent’s hand, forcing him to forfeit the match, but this wasn’t just about winning. He was enjoying it, and didn’t want it to end so soon. Takao dropped to one knee and reached down with the aim to grasp Maikumaru’s wrist, forcefully if against his will, and swing him up onto the train car.

“You’re not getting out of this that easily!” He taunted as he swung him back up. There would be merely a second’s worth of distance between them before Takao took the offensive this time and subjected Maikumaru to his own flurry of strikes. While his strikes were thrown in alternating 1-2-3-2 and 1-1-2 combinations, the way he threw them were not so predictable, alternating from throwing from the shoulder, the elbow, and weaving his weight into the strikes. These were merely a ploy, however, intended to be fast enough to force Maikumaru to try and read the patterns which were certainly present, but distract him long enough for an alternative motion to take him by surprise. On the second jab of one of the myriad of three-strike combinations thrown, Takao pulled his left shoulder back as though he would strike with his right, but instead swung his leg up and aimed a straight kick for Maikumaru’s core.

His intention was to put distance between them, if only for a second, and then immediately close it, gaining momentum to swing his body into the air for a split second in preparation for a kick. His body, horizontal to the ground in its entirety, was braced by a hand on the top of the train, and the kick was aimed downward as his legs fanned out and his right swung like a guillotine down at Maikumaru’s shoulder.

Maikumaru looked down at the quickly moving ground, his fingers holding on the the ledge of the train for dear life. Maikumaru saw the approaching Takao. He knew what situation he was in. Maikumaru’s face scrunched up in frustration. He overestimated his own abilities. He had hoped that he wouldn’t come out as the loser. Not like this. Not so easily. He would have to swallow his pride. But to his surprise, instead of kicking the Iwa Ninja in the face and onto the ground, Takao grabbed Maikumaru’s wrist, and threw him up as if he was a twig. It was then, he knew there was something inside Takao. Something that every great shinobi from any village should have: a Warrior’s Spirit.

His thought was interrupted by a very swift and furious offense. The way Takao exchanged blows was the polar opposite of Maikumaru’s fighting style. Lightning fast with the predictability of a lottery. Between every punch, he would try to go on the offensive, try to endure the punishment to trade blows of his own. Unfortunately, Takao’s attacks had power behind them as well as swiftness, keeping the larger Ninja in check. When Maikumaru thought he saw an opening in the form of a punch, he attempted to seize the opportunity to counter-attack. When he threw the punch, the Iwa Ninja was met by a kick to the midsection. Maikumaru had been thrown back by the attack and clutched his stomach. But then he saw Takao wind up for an acrobatic attack.  Maikumaru backstepped from the attack. He decided to take advantage, and jump into the air himself. His side was facing downward, with his elbow extended. But the attack wasn’t for Takao. It was for the train.

After slamming his elbow into the roof of the train, creating a whole within it that was meant to suck Takao inside. Hopefully to take advantage of the surprise change of environment, Maikumaru very briefly looked around. The inside of the train was a passenger train, and seated within the seats were mannequins that were dressed rather lavishly. Maikumaru grabbed the head of a female mannequin with blonde hair. “Here. Have a kiss!” He launched the head face first into Takao’s head. He grabbed a glass of wine that was sitting on the table. It was no doubt cheaply made. He splashed it on Takao, before throwing the glass on him. And then Maikumaru grabbed the entire bottle, and made the attempt to break it over Takao’s anything. With the hope of dazing him, Maikumaru would throw his body into him, roaring as he would spear the Konoha Ninja. But without letting go, Maikumaru would charge him into every door of the train, until finally reaching the front of the train. He looked out the window. The vessel had been fast approaching the visible chakra berrier. Briefly forgetting about his opponent, Maikumaru ran in the other direction. He kept running as fast as he could, running past the fake people sitting in their seats. On the other end of the train, there was the end of another train. He ran faster towards it, and jumped onto it. But to his surprise, just before the train that he was previously on had started to move backwards, right before the very tip of it hit the chakra barrier. The train that Maikumaru was currently on started to move forward. He had realized that these trains were in sync. He looked back at the other train, realizing Takao as still on it. His body tensed in response to this realization, preparing for the inevitable retaliation from this powerful Shinobi.

The ‘ground’ beneath him was upset by Maikumaru’s strike to the train, and the metal that he had used to support his weight during the kick buckled beneath the might of his strike. As a result, Takao fell unceremoniously into the train car, landing on his neck and shoulders with a hard thud. He was quick to return to his feet, supporting his weight with his hands and lifting himself into a handstand, spinning his body so that his back would face Maikumaru for only a brief instant before he sprung back onto his feet, facing him properly in less than a second. He was slightly disturbed to see the train cars filled with decorum and imagery as though it were a real train, rather than entirely empty as he was expecting. It was for such a reason that Maikumaru’s abstract method of combat caught him off guard.

“Have a--?” He began, but was interrupted by the stinging pain of hard plastic colliding with his face, and a wad of synthetic hair in his mouth. He spat as it fell to the side and was immediately met with a face full of wine, quickly followed by a sharp yet manageable pain over the top of his head and a wave of red covering his vision. It did little in the way of actually hurting him, although the bottle of wine did scratch the side of his face when it broke, yet this cartoonish usage of the surroundings was merely a precursor to the main course.

Maikumaru slammed into him and carried him from car to car, crashing into and through the doors of one and into the next, until they reached the very last car at the front, and his back was shoved into a hard steel wall. Air left his oxygens in the form of a deep grunt from his chest, and his black eyes trailed Maikumaru on his journey back through the destroyed doorways. Drenched in wine and bleeding from a small wound over his eye, Takao pursued him, not with a run but with a walk. Each step of his boots on the train shook the car as Maikumaru widened the distance between them, eventually departing from the train altogether as it began to pass through the chakra barrier. As Takao moved from one train to the next, he slammed his heel into the coupling that connected the cars together and separated the last four from the front of the train.

With the end disconnected, it slowed to a stop, and Takao proceeded to the very last car just as they were beginning to move. With one arm, he held onto the train that he had disconnected, and as the new train began to move, so too did the remaining four cars. He slammed the coupling of the last cars together, connecting them to create a longer train, before proceeding to the roof where Maikumaru stood.

Now stood on the same train as Maikumaru, only two cars apart, Takao turned his back to his opponent. A foolish move, surely, but the course of action he had chosen would be completed before Maikumaru could close the distance. He knelt at the edge and slammed his hands into the adjacent train car’s roof. It crumpled like paper under the strength of his grip and he lifted the four trains he had only just connected, shattering the coupling under the stress of the movement. Takao swung the train cars up.

“You seem a little stressed-- why don’t I help you let off some steam!” Takao called out, his voice hoarse and escaping like a guttural growl as his arms strained under the weight of the four train cars he lifted. It was no easy task, that was for sure, but the ear-to-ear toothy smile on his face made it look far easier than it was. His arms flexed, veins protruded from his biceps, forearms, and neck, and he swung it down like a massive flail toward Maikumaru. Regardless of whether it hit, both of the trains would be thoroughly destroyed and derailed from their track, leaving that particular area of the arena a graveyard of metal.

Maikumaru waited anxiously for Takao. It was a certainty that he wasn't down from the last flurries of attacks. Maikumaru had climbed to the top of the roof. His suspected whatever was about to happen was going to be big, he was going to need as much moving space as possible in order to recover from whatever was about to happen. Maikumaru heard a few loud iron clanks from the other train. Sweat began to draw from his forehead, The Self Proclaimed Champion of Iwagakure clenched his fists. And then he saw him. Takao was at the end of the other train, connecting the last four cars of the other train to the one that Maikumaru was standing on. He backed away by a few cars.

Maikumaru saw that Takao had hoisted the two train cars above his head. He looked up to see the the cars being swung around, and finally felt the impact of the train a top of him. But he slammed into a glass window, finding himself to be in the interior of the train. He wasn’t exactly sure what was happening on the outside, but he felt the train gyrated around him, giving him the feeling of levitation. With a thud he his head hit the glass of a window the the opposing side. Everything around him, the mannequins, the cheap wine, started to be thrown at Maikumaru from the disrupted peace.

There was a second loud thud, as the train bounced once more, leaving Maikumaru to levitate again. He felt a table fall into his stomach, having him be thrown into the door of the, and then another, and another, being propelled by the tables forced. My own medicine tastes pretty bad. He finally fell in the final car. When this happened, time began to stop, as the shattered window of the door that was on the other end of the car was faced down to the ground. His face was dangerously close to the window, which revealed the ground. But with a final beat, the train cars flipped upside down, throwing Maikumaru into the roof. His head was hit pretty hard, causing him to be dazed, and blackout for a few seconds. When he came too he found a female mannequin on top of him. Still confused he murmured in a weary voice. “Please, miss….I didn't even take you out to dinner….yet.” When he came to his senses, he threw the mannequin off of him and struggled to the door of the car.

He kicked the table out of his way, and kicked the door opened. Looking up, he climbed out of the car, and onto the the now upside down train car, careful not to touch the ground. The car that Takao was on was a good distance away. He removed the glass from his hair, and picked the glass from the wound on the side of his head. He winced at the sting he felt. “I’ll admit you are strong….” He caught his breath, kneeling over for his bruised body. “But it takes just a bit more than that to get rid of me!” Maikumaru looked behind him there was a train coming at full speed. This one looked bigger, and more armored than the rest. It was a commercial freight train that carried minerals, coal being visibly the first. His right eye twitched as he grabbed a hold of the wheels on either side, bracing himself for impact. The freight car that Maikumaru was on was the only one that was on the tracks. There was metal screeching and sparks flying everywhere. Maikumaru jerked. The power of this particular train easily powered the train car forward, doing little to stop halt its speed. There were a few cars that were in the way. One of them, that was right side up, perfectly laid out on the track was the first to be caught up in the mayhem. Maikumaru jumped on it, as the other cars were shoved out of the way. He started to run forward. He kept running until the car collided with Takao’s.

Maikumaru wasn't one to waste any time. He started to swing like a wild animal. He swung aggressively, using his brawling stance, his fists lowered to his sides, leaving his torso opened, his knees slightly bent, lowering his center of gravity to increase the power of his punches. Keeping his torso opened was a risky move, but the ability to punch freely was a pay off. Maikumaru would finally shove his shoulder into Takao’s torso, holding on his back. He would lurch forward, pushing him back, but only slowly. Finally he lifted him up, and slammed him down on the roof of the train, in an attempt to mount him. He would throw punches at Takao’s face as much as possible, fueled by his determination to win this fight.

Train-wrecked. (Maik vs Takao, Round 1) D6ehE4O

Silence had overtaken the arena as Takao hoisted the sections of train into the air and whipped them down at Maikumaru, truly a spectacular feat of strength for what had begun as a mere friendly bout of fisticuffs. Both trains-- the one he had thrown, naturally, and the train which had the former had been thrown into-- created a deafening roar of twisting metal and absolute calamity as they collided, spinning and rolling off their tracks as geysers of dust and debris shot into the air. When the clouds of dust finally came to settle, the audience was graced with the sight of the extensive wreckage, just in time to observe the next train in the sequence to slam into the overturned trains and, just as the others were, become part of the train-yard flotsam.

Throughout all the chaos, Takao had merely ridden along with the wreckage until it came to rest, impeccable balance keeping him from needing any help outside of his own superb equilibrium. Standing atop one of the overturned train cars, Takao’s gaze was captured by a sound of secondary movement separate from the settling trains, and then the door being kicked open by Maikumaru. He observed his opponent pick glass from his head, seemingly have been dealt a similar fate as he mere seconds before, which widened the lopsided smile that pulled his mouth into his cheek. The momentary silence of the crowd was broken and they erupted into another roar of cheering and applause, egging the fighters on to continue their thematic battle.

“Good,” He said, raising his hand to lift his wine-drenched hair and push it off to the side, out of his eyes.

“It’d be a real shame if you were beaten before I finished warming up!”

A second train slammed into the wreckage, and Maikumaru was carried with the momentum, launching himself across the field of overturned cars and twisted metal until he reached Takao’s choice of foothold-- a train flipped on its side, with several windows broken and the rest cracked-- and began an onslaught of wild, animalistic strikes. His center of mass was open to strike but defended by the feral offense that forced Takao on the defense. With raised arms, Takao protected what was most valuable, the front of his ribs, his sternum, neck, and face, whilst he allowed hits to land true on other portions of his body that could not be so easily protected. Some landed on his sides and left small fractures in his ribs, while the majority were met with his arms, primarily his biceps, which would be properly coloured in bruises when the bout was through.

Still on the defensive when Maikumaru slammed his shoulder into his torso, Takao was first pushed back, gradually resisting the force of his opponent, and then unexpectedly lifted from the ground by the taller shinobi and dropped, back first, into the glass-ridden surface of the train they fought upon. It was his immediate reaction to lift his arms and guard his face, and in doing so, he was relieved, in part, from the next brutal onslaught of attacks Maikumaru had aimed there. In this disadvantageous position, Takao’s options were limited, but he was far from a panic. Slowly, the roar of the crowds faded from his hearing, and even the sound of another oncoming train that would soon crash into the wreckage and create an even bigger pile disappeared. All he found hear was Maikumaru’s breathing with each strike, and his own breathing and heartbeat, gradually calming himself and preparing for action.

Takao took a hit to the face and threw his own right hook for Maikumaru’s jaw from the ground, attempting to trade blows with him just long enough to open up the opportunity for further action. Even if his strike didn’t land true, Takao would use the opportunity to grapple Maikumaru’s arm and raise his hips, placing his left foot on Maikumaru’s own hip and pushing down hard, using the leverage of his opponent’s grappled arm to push him to the side without losing the distance between them. In doing so, Takao would swing his other arm up and lock Maikumaru in a classic armbar from the ground, gradually forcing his opponent’s wrist and forearm to twist to the side. Despite this apparent attempt for a tap-out, Takao did not want his opponent to forfeit just yet, and he would instead release the arm bar after a moment, kicking off Maikumaru to gain just a modicum of distance.

When Takao’s grasp on Maikumaru’s arm would release, they would instead find themselves placed and firmly grabbing the broken window he was partially laid on, and his body would be effortlessly lifted into the air. His legs fanned out, spinning once to gain momentum, before swinging downward like a guillotine, not unlike the maneuver he had done before. Once more, regardless of if it hit or not, Takao would be back on his feet. If Maikumaru managed to get back onto his feet at the same time, he would be met with swift, controlled combinations aimed for his chest, primarily with hooks aimed for the sides, and straights aimed for his pectorals and, as well as the odd hook and jab aimed for his face peppered in amidst the other fast strikes.

During Maikumaru’s violent and ferocious mounted assault, he was able to get in a successful hit to Takao’s face. He felt a sudden twinge of confidence with the landing strike. However, he wasn’t able to form his signature cocky smirk as he was soon met with a hard hitting strike to his own face. His head suddenly bounced upward, momentarily putting a sudden halt to his onslaught. Sweat flew from off his face with the strike, and Maikumaru saw the sky. The counter attack had forced him to leave his offensive defense, opening him up a counterassault of punches. Doing his best to ignore the punches, being forced to be hit harder as he started to receive punches from Takao to the face. His own strikes were getting weaker, and slower than they normally would be. The punches cept coming consecutively, weakening him. The damage was getting bad enough that his vision had started to blur. But Maikumaru endured, throwing one final sluggish punch. However, when he tried to pull his arm away to continue the obvious downward spiral, he felt something grab a hold of it.

He felt his hip being pressed, and his arm being pulled. Maikumaru was had. He felt a pain in his arm, a sharp one. He was forced in an armbar from the guard position. And then he felt an impact on his chest that threw him back a good distance. Maikumaru rolled around holding his chest with his hurt arm. When Maikumaru picked himself up, and went into his brawling stance. Unfortunately he made a fatal error. He had forgot, even after learning the style, that one should only break into the style if they are clear to go on the offensive, as its defensive capabilities were nonexistent. Takao had already recovered from his guarded position, and came at Maikumaru with . He felt heavy fists to his midsection. With each hit he felt his bones rattle, and his body wobbe. He felt his knees shake and get weaker. Within a few hits Maikumaru dropped to his bottom, his hand off to the side, supporting his weight. He was in a rather bad position. He placed his hand over his face, feeling out any injuries. His nose was bleeding, and he couldn’t open his left eye all the way. A black eye of course. For a split second, the thought of just lying down and being declared unable to battle had crossed his mind. In within less than a second later, he cursed himself. He shamed himself for even letting that thought slip through his mind.

He roared at the top of his lungs. And with every ounce of endurance he could muster. With every ounce of resolve he had, he powered through the assault. Maikumaru had to unleash the beast from within to even get a chance at winning this. He went for a strike to the side of Takao, below the ribs. It was a critical area. He would use that to deliver a quick punch to the jaw, and a harder punch to the eye. He was only looking to disorientate. That was probably the most he would be getting out of that attack regardless. Maikumaru would use the time to run back to the other train. The train was getting close to reaching the center of the arena. Maikumaru jumped on the behemoth train, which turned. While it did so, it forced the misplaced train off the rail, conversely forcing that he and Takao were previously on. He had high doubts that would stop Takao. All Maikumaru could do was run for now. Run and gather himself to think of a plan. He had taken note that only half of the cars were full of coal, while the other half were freights. He punched the hole in the car that was in the middle of the entire train, And slipped inside. He kneeled down on his knees, and held himself. He was exhausted. He was hurt. He had not faced anyone like this in his entire life. He looked up and around him. There were packages with warning signs on them. He picked one up and examined it. He ripped open to find that there were tons of tags. Explosive tags. Maikumaru smiled. He Took the package and reached for his pocket. Luckily it didn’t fall out during the fight. It was a set of matches. There were only a few of them. He moved quickly. He ripped open a large amount of them, and placed them directly under the hole that he had came from. He stopped caring about his own safety. He was going to do something to the man. To this monster. Maikumaru was starting to fully realize what he was up against. “Fight in the Exhibitions I said. It will be fun I said.” Maikumaru jumped out of his hole to see if Takao was there. Or at least approaching. If he was on the car, Maikumaru would run to the car next to him filled with coal, and throw the match in. If he hadn't reached it yet, Maikumaru would sit and wait. He would use the opportunity to slightly rest in an effort to regain stamina, and then set the plan in full motion. Either way, the end result would be Maikumaru running over to the car ahead of him, throwing in the match.

And once thrown in, there would be a large explosion. It would separate the cars, but rock the train, throwing Maikumaru back. Though him placing little thought in it would result in him feeling the flames of the coal as the explosion had spread to the car, Maikumaru would feel his clothes and hair burn from the explosion, landing on the front of the behemoth train, which came to a sudden stop. Maikumaru’s ears had started to ring from the blast. He blinked. He felt the side of his head, feeling the emptiness, the place that had used to have hair. He struggled to his feet, to see the outcome of what he had done. He wondered if Takao was defeated. Though...he couldn’t help but feel that his effort was in vain. If the blast wasn’t enough to bring himself down. Why would it be enough to defeat him?

Train-wrecked. (Maik vs Takao, Round 1) D6ehE4O

The roar of the crowd was deafening as the bloody brawl raged on: screams, applause, cheers, boos filled the stadium from all sides, encroaching the fighters’ position on all flanks, filling their ears with encouraging chants that urged them to fight their hardest. Takao had blacked it all out, ignored the noise from the stands, and focused only on the sounds of his battle. The laboured breathing, the rapid beating of his heart from both fatigue and excitement, the smell of blood and dirt in the air, fires burning coal and cooking iron. This is what he was built for, every fiber of his being felt more at peace here, amidst the epitome of chaos, standing on the battlefield of twisted metal, trading blows with a worthy adversary, than he did in the comfort of his own home-- perhaps it were a lie, and perhaps it was merely a product of being caught up in the moment, but for now, it mattered now.

Maikumaru’s first strike landed true, just below his ribs, cracking the lowermost with fractures thin as hair, but he felt it clear as crystal. Teeth grit and jaw tense, he withstood the second strike, then the third, his head rocking to and fro from the might of the blows, not thrown recklessly to the side but affected notably, his head turned and hanging to the side when Maikumaru made his retreat. He regained his stature after a moment and began his pursuit, walking at first, then jogging, then sprinting, heavy footsteps leaving dents and miniature craters in their wake. In the distance he watched Maikumaru punch a hole in one of the train cars, rummage through contents, and then move to retreat when Takao’s approach lead him to the same car.

It was a blur after that. His eyes were consumed by bright light, then there was a loud boom, his ears rung, and then everything was quiet.

Silence. The arena had fallen silent. Not so much as a whisper was muttered to their neighbor as they watched, bated breath, eyes wide, scanning the debris for shapes and movement but finding nothing. Eruption of cheers was replaced with the gentle pitter-patter of settling dust.

The announcer and referee of the match, lingering nearby yet still far out of reach of the chaos stood by with bated breath. The silence dragged on for eternity, wondering if their violent delights had met a violent end. Then, there was a commotion. A whine of metal.

“Not bad at all,” Takao’s husk, raspy voice called out from the debris. There was a single footstep, then a horrible, shrill chorus of scraping, folding metal, then another footstep, and another symphony of chaos.

The dust began to settle. From the stands, they could see little, making out the shape of something large moving within the cloud of smoke and debris, gradually moving forward; they heard it before they saw it, the piercing, high-pitched noise.

“Not bad at all.” He said, slowly moving out of the cloud of dust. His upper garment had been burned off, though his body seemed hardly singed, not so much a hair out of place on his head. Behind him was a train car, tilted on its side, subdivided by the explosion but hanging in metal tatters, every window of glass shattered and the contents rattling wildly inside as it was pulled along by a single arm, outstretched, gloved hand grabbing the steel and twisting it within its grasp like sheer fabric.

His arm flexed and the train car rose, held above his head, blocking out the sun above Maikumaru. Cold eyes, black like the coal the trains carried, accompanied a wide smile, lopsided and pulled into one corner of his cheek.

“--nd the win-- is Maikumaru Otsuka, by disqualification!”

The loudspeakers throughout the arena rang loudly, initially ignored at first, but paid attention to just in time to catch the tail end of the announcement.

“Wait--” Takao contested. His gaze fell earthward and saw the ground beneath his boots. The lopsided smile twisted and contorted into a mixture of disgust and confusion, then finally advancing into resignment to the outcome. He had forgotten all about the cardinal rule of their bout; don’t touch the ground.

“Fuck.” He grumbled, dropping the train in his grasp that had loomed over Maikumaru, letting it come to rest in one last chaotic choir.

“I wasn’t even paying attention. Too caught up in the fight.” A sigh left his lips and he shook his head. With long strides, his legs carried him to Maikumaru, and his glove-clad hand was outstretched.

“Good fight. Next time I won’t go easy on you,” He said, lopsided smile returned.

Maikumaru

Maikumaru

A-rank
Maikumaru heard his name. He heard it as the Victor. For a second he felt victorious. He felt like he had conquered the world. The whole world. He defeated a former Kage. One of the most powerful Shinobi in The Village Hidden in The Leaf. But this feeling. This feeling of a Warrior’s victory was only but a second. He had came to his senses well enough to look at the situation. This wasn’t a Warrior’s Victory. It was a victory of technicality. He saw that Takao was on the ground, unscathed for the most part. Unscathed. And then Maikumaru looked at his own body. He looked at his burnt clothing. The blood that poard from the cuts on his body. He felt the side of his head again. He felt the stubble. The right side of his white hair was burnt off. His arm hurt. Badly. He felt the blood on the side of his other head, from his collision into the glass when he tumbled inside the passenger train that derailed. And then he looked at Takao once more. Maikumaru had won the match. But he didn’t win what was most important. He didn’t win what a true shinobi like himself should have won. He didn’t win the fight.

The crowd cheered and applauded. He thought about the fight from a spectators point of view. Seeing such fighters going against each other with such violence. He looked around the ring. There was carnage all over. Broken tracks, laid out cars, fire. Yeah. From the stands, from the crowds, the fight was an entertaining one. From his Train car, he looked at Takao. And then he rolled off it landing on the ground. “Oh come on. Look at me. Look at you. You are the winner, no matter what they think. To be honest, now that I think about it...I never really stood a chance. I gave it my all back there. I gave it everything I had. Every punch, every tackle. And I took a lot too, going off of my sheer will.” Maikumaru laughed. He was slightly hunched over. His arm across his abdomen to deal with a wound. His hand grasping his wounded left arm. “You are by far the most powerful Shinobi I have ever faced. If this is what you have without Chakra, I could see why you were barred from using it.”

Takao had confirmed what Maikumaru had finally realized only moments before his “victory” was announced. He was holding back. What Maikumaru told Takao was true. He had gave him everything. But Takao wasn’t giving much. He didn’t need too. Maikumaru took another look at the battlefield, littered with metal, raw materials, and fire. He saw ghosts of himself and Takao, going at it. Looking at them, he saw how hard he was trying. How much power he put up. And it wasn’t enough. It was not going to be enough. It was in vain from the very start. Maikumaru shook his head and smiled. “You better not hold back, next time. Because next time, I’ll be a lot stronger. And I PROMISE you when that happens, if you even think about holding back for a second…” he removed his finger and hand from his arm and abdomen to point at Takao. “...you’ll be dead.” He retracted his index finger, and turned it into a fist, offering a fistbump as a show of respect. Takao was his better. There was no getting around that. Weather he accepted it or not, Maikumaru would start to slowly leave the arena. He was going to make it his goal to beat that man some day. Maikumaru swore to himself he was going to beat him. He was going to get stronger, far stronger. But for now, he will remind himself who bested who. In the mean time, he will have to heal himself.
