The land of wind had been a lawless wasteland ever since the destruction of Sunagakure and the consequent chaos that came after it. Bandits and former shinobi roamed the lands, banding together in dangerous packs and harassing those who did not want to leave the land of wind in search for a better place to live. In the eyes of the shinobi world this was an utter disaster wrought by misfortune and disarray within the once mighty nation, it was a testament that even in this day and age where powerful shinobi managed to control nations and see them prosper, there was also the possibility of powerful shinobi doing the opposite: utterly destroying a nation and tearing apart its foundations with ease.

Not far from the remains of the hidden village, a small group of bandits had gathered and decided upon their course of action: raiding what seemed to be a small camp of harmless merchants who were unfortunate enough to pass through these lands and thus this newly made gang's territory.

Their attack was done swiftly and with eerie precision, in the dead of night they managed to slit the throats of the guards, plunder the wagons and take with them all they saw as valuable, this included a couple of young girls who would without a doubt fish a hefty price on the black market as slaves. It was thus, in the eyes of these bandits, not a time of chaos, but a time of opportunity for wealth and riches, unbound by laws or order, they were free to do as they pleased.

At least it looked like that until the news came that not one nation, but all the surrounding nations had send expeditionary forces to assert themselves in those lawless lands, claim it for their own or whipe it clean to let it blossom once anew into a new nation under their benevolent guidance.

From their hideout: a deceptively small looking cave entrance, two bandits were on guard duty, smoking a cigarette while keeping a hand on their weapons, laughing and chatting loudly without a care in the world. "I guess those troops are having us surrounded pretty soon," One of the bandits sighed, letting out a puff of teal coloured smoke. "I reckon the boss might want to change our hideout or relocate to a new place. We can't match up against those trained elites these days."

The other bandit snorted and smiled. "No worries, with those four girls, we should be able to get a hefty sum of ryo," he as well let out a puff of teal coloured smoke and sat down on the ground, his long saber stabbing the sand with a hollow thud as he got seated. "Just think about the money and forget about what's happening around us. It's not like we got to deal with that monster of the sands anymore. Last I heard, that lady got her ass handed to her by some Kirigakure soldiers in Kumogakure."

Izumi's homecoming had been an eventful one thus far, having met a mysterious man who wore the mask of Obito Uchiha, as well as killed countless foreign agents trying to desecrate the holy ground of her fathers. Izumi had grown to hate those that would seek to change her homeland into a vessel for their own devices. She had thought that maybe Kirigakure would be different than Suna, that the corruption hadn't sunk it's sinister roots into the society she had adopted. Mitsuo had been right, the world was full of those who wanted to destroy the sanctity and the beauty of their world. She just hadn't seen it back then, a simple wide eyed girl with dreams of adventure of glory. Sure, she had been jaded at a younger age than most but she still believed that the world could recover from it's path of strife and ruin. This fantasy was shattered when the war orders had come through, when her undercover mission started so did her doubts. The further she delved into Kirigakure's foreign policy the clearer it became that the corruption was no different. Everyone lusted for power in some for or another, at least those who ruined her home had the decency to not put up a front of wanting what's best for the people. They may have been corrupt, conniving, bastards but at least they had their quest for self advancement no secret. Izumi once again donned the mask and fine silken clothing that she had adopted for her guise as a foreign noble come in search of suitors in a foreign land. In a convenient, yet cruel twist of fate the  ninja headband of her homeland had become a bit of a keepsake for many. Something to take home and sport to simply prove you were there. It was something of a trophy for some, a piece of the land they “helped” to prove that “they were there”. Regardless of it's diminished public meaning, Izumi still donned it on her left bicep proudly declaring that it was her homeland. Although for her outside appearance as Zhi it didn't cause even second moment of inspection let alone any questions about how she managed to come by it.

Izumi often found herself thinking of the three who destroyed her homeland, she didn't resent them surprisingly enough. Rather, she had come to hate the place that had produced them. Izumi had gotten it in her head that the Leaf Village was the cause of much strife and death in the world. She had even come to forgive those truly responsible responsible, each for different reasons. Mitsuo was a raving lunatic by all accounts in the last time the Karisuma woman had interacted with him and figured not much had changed by this point. Izumi found it hard to find a madman accountable for their actions. Syekren was Izumi's first crush and a man she'd always love even if she hadn't seen him in the many  years since they last parted ways at the chunin exams in the hidden cloud village. For all the reason she had to hate the man, she couldn't bring herself to do it. And as for the one who called herself, Lamya … well the truth was Izumi admired her style. The audacity and the theatrics of revealing herself in the limelight before the world; airing her crimes for all to see. It was an attitude that the Karisuma woman respected, even something she herself aspired to. The blue eyed woman grinned at the thought of one day pulling a similar stunt of her own accompanied with pipe dreams of the Leaf Village burning before her.

Izumi was wandering the sands with Nova on this gorgeous day in her homeland when she heard voices coming from over the dune they stood at the base of. Signaling for Nova to halt by giving her leg a quick squeeze and stopping in her tracks to listen, Izumi was able to make out what they were saying, "No worries, with those four girls, we should be able to get a hefty sum of ryo, just think about the money and forget about what's happening around us. It's not like we got to deal with that monster of the sands anymore. Last I heard, that lady got her ass handed to her by some Kirigakure soldiers in Kumogakure." Izumi's temper was set ablaze, few things got under skin like slavers. Given her family's history and the lesson that it cost them, Izumi had a particular hatred for scum who'd sell another after all had the world taken a different path it wouldn't have been too hard to imagine Izumi being one of those girls. Izumi quickly forgot the finesse she'd learned to use in her older age instead opting for a older tactic: burn them all. Izumi would walk up the dune alone, motioning for Nova to stay back. An astute eye would notice the sand around her turning to glass and any remnant plant matter igniting around her as she walked. The Karisuma's temper burned for the first time in years as she marched up the dune, at it's summit she'd call down to the men, “As far as you four are concerned, I'm the monster of the sands. Normally I give people a chance to run but,” not even bothering to finish her sentence, walls of flame would close in on the two men, conjured from the air around them using her acute control of the flame chakra that burned within her.

Nova's own goals in the land of wind had sunk to the back of her mind, often being pushed and pulled by Izumi's missions and the whisperings of a former criminal in the back of her head. Izumi, while striving to help the land of wind seemed to be more interested in going after those who had wronged it rather than the rebuilding of the village itself. Sasori, as he had made it clear to her upon seeing the destruction that had ravaged the village hidden in the sand, sought to bring about the rise of Suna once more while working through Nova's hands; Something he would achieve Nova willing or not. Perhaps Izumi would have noticed the glazed look in her eyes that would last for a few moments before flicking back to attention, expressions changing in tune as if to an internal conversation. At first, the presence in her mind frightened her, drove Nova mad. She had even tried to burn the body of the former akatsuki member twice, each time an amused chuckle would sound in her skull as the puppet body was far more durable than a normal corpse and the normal flames licked across the body uselessly. In the years since their time in Kiri, the fear and terror had begun to subside leaving her with an unusual connection to Sasori. For the most part she had been able to keep this fact concealed, keeping Sasori in the scroll near constantly. Only two people knew for certain what lie in her possesion; Lord Sero Osada her own mentor, and a student she had taken as her own named Rysano Itawaka. Only Rysano however knew the extent of her bizarre bond with her ward, having stumbled into a clearing days after she had obtained the puppet and stopping the removal and replacement of a limb at Sasori's whim. These were the thoughts that ate away at Nova as she walked along Izumi through the dunes that were unique to the land of wind. These trauma's and inner-turmoils had been kept a secret, partially due to Nova's shame in having given into a power who whispered dark thoughts and Sasori's keen sense of when Nova was thinking of telling Izumi of her struggle.

At this very moment, while walking in silence Nova was being berated by the mind within her own,Dissapointing really... my art has gone unseen for far too long. You know what you must do and I grow impatient. perhaps that was why Nova's own temper would flare unusually hot as Izumi's did at the words carried on the wind to them from across the sands, "No worries, with those four girls, we should be able to get a hefty sum of ryo, just think about the money and forget about what's happening around us. It's not like we got to deal with that monster of the sands anymore. Last I heard, that lady got her ass handed to her by some Kirigakure soldiers in Kumogakure." With not a moments hesitation, Izumi would motion Nova to stay back and charge forward. What once were the wavering lines of heat rising from the sand now seemed to charge with chakra, the sand itself melting and the flora that had somehow managed to eek out an existence in the desert would blaze brightly for a moment before the ashes being whisked away by the constant hot breeze. Scrambling behind her due to the damned clumsiness associated with a faux leg, Nova would watch as Izumi marched onwards,“As far as you four are concerned, I'm the monster of the sands. Normally I give people a chance to run but..” Words filled with anger dripped from her mouth, even as she began to speak walls of flickering heat would close in around the men.

Air reeking of burnt hair lingered over the charred corpses. Not a chance in the world that they would have stood against the chakra burning flames that Izumi had an innate control over. Slipping slightly as the heel of her wooden leg lost traction on the sand, Nova would slide down the Dune to where Izumi stood, shaking with anger. Nova's left hand would slide around Izumi's waist in an attempt at comfort. Izumi's rage was palpable, the air around her hotter even than the desert around them. Squeezing for a moment, she would release Izumi and raise a finger to her lips motioning to stay silent. Pressing her fingers into the back of her wooden leg, she used a simple jutsu to unseal what she kept hidden there. From nothing the puppet would appear around her, legs propping it up over the sand as she lay on her stomach within. Shuffling slightly, Doku Tsuki's legs would settle into the sand and the puppet would begin to pick up the sensitive vibrations all around. It seemed as though it was a tunnel system that was being gaurded, she could sense the twists and turns of the cave as the tunnels themselves seemed to be just the absence of the vibrations. There were more people within, though Nova did not think that they had noticed the death of their guards at the entrance quite yet. As soon as they would move, Nova would know, each footstep thundering through the ground to her sensitive mechanical construct. Two... another one... three. Four.. Five more. Alright. Nine total.. Opening the slots on the puppet for a moment so Izumi could hear her speak, she would talk quickly and wait for Izumi's say to go, “Nine total. Furthest in I think there might be the girls they were talking about. With another guard or something, Tell me when to go in”. Doku Tsuki's barbed tail waved overhead, ready to march into the face of danger.

It was not the best day any regular bandit could have, in fact, one could have even slated it to be one of the worst if not the worst in this case. As they were simply gathering around a fire, gladly recounting the tales of their deeds and the dreams and prospects of profit which they held so dearly after having gone through the labor of taking down a carefully selected merchant's caravan and raiding both its riches and hoarding what valuable merchandise the caravan possessed. Yet in stead of finding comfort and solace for a life well lived and adventures to be had in past and future lives, the three only saw a woman approach them, barely a woman even, hardly even close to their age. To their surprise this woman suddenly mentioned herself as the monster of the desert, something which at first shocked them, yet was instantly followed by chuckles and laughter.

"Monster of the desert, please, don't make such jokes," The first one jested.

"Oh puhlease, anyone who knows a bit about the destruction of sunagakure knows it wasn't that one who used the fire to burn it down," The second one jeered.

"I know that physical appearance, that girl's a damn Karisuma...really nothing to be affraid of, just some wayward bastard trying to reclaim her home, I reckon." The third one sneered.

Alas, it was the last the three bandits would ever utter, say or pray, for their lives were cut short in such a short, brutal and utterly unfair way, one could call it retribution for their sinful lives or perhaps the cruelty of karma in its rawest and most honest form. The bandits that profited from a tragedy, exploited a village's destruction and now mooched on the countless broken lives and dreams suddenly got caught up in a blazing firestorm, a raging inferno to which they held no answer. As blades were drawn, the metal melted, as eyes opened, they popped like overcooked eggs. Where once was flesh, nought but flakes of dust remained and where once was bone, nought but charred and blackened cinders could be found. The whole place seemed like a miniature version of the sunagakure tragedy, with sand having turned into glass beneath the feet of the assailant and her partner.

The cold moons still shone pale in the night's sky, undeterred by the sudden blaze of light which had erupted moments earlier and the desert was yet again silent, bar for the glass and cinders, there was no more trace of any outburst or eruption of rage and heat to be found. However, as Nova, hidden within her strong and fearsome looking puppet shell started utilizing her own personal gifts, she could notice indeed that there were more signatures remaining in the vicinity and her intelligence did also note that some of them were most likely the conspirators of the bandits that Izumi had taken care of in a flash a mere moment before.

It was near the entrance of a small cave not far from Izumi and Nova's position, that two men were playing cards, wondering what it took their comrades so long to return from their usual walk around. The first of the two men looked up and sighed. "Guess they're disregarding the boss' rules again and just enjoying the night again," The other man looked up as well and smiled, using a spair card from within his sleeve to exchange it with one that was in his hands to slam down a four of a kind aces onto the table;" Does it even matter, I've won!!"

Just as the man wanted to grab the money and objects that had been heaped up between the two, the other guy grabbed his wrist and placed down his own hand, which was a four of a kind...of aces as well. "Nuh uh, we're equal...and you obviously cheated," Without saying anything more, the guy threw his comrade against the floor, upon which a handful of cards fluttered down bearing aces upon them, yet in doing so a few also fluttered down from the other guy's sleeves, showing cards with the same markings and symbols. "Well, seems we were both cheating...split the pot?" The other guy sighed and nodded. "Same as usual I guess, we really should stop cheating against eachother, we never have a clear winner this way."

It was at this point that the boss entered the place where the two were having a little scuffle. "Shut up you dolts, when the others get back, I want you all to come down...we got to discuss what to do with those people out back, sell em or use em?"

The two nodded, though suddenly the first cheater asked how many they had now. was it three or four, to which the boss quickly replied. "It's five out back, no wait...four, argh...it's been a long night, be sure to keep a lookout and come yell me at any sign of trouble."
