Watching a fight was a great source of entertainment for Takao, but when it came down to it, he was a man that sought to act rather than observe. He lived for the thrill of a good bout, for the euphoria of adrenaline coursing through his veins like hot blood. It was only natural that he find himself an opponent of suitable capability to quell this burning desire for combat.

The raven-haired shinobi had donned his typical battle-preparedness attire for the trip to the designated location. Upon arriving, he was greeted with a sight that was nothing more than a bridge, and even beyond that it was rather uneventful looking for a bridge, at least in his humble opinion. He had only briefly scanned the options of location for these bouts, and each seemed to have its own effect on the combatants. The bridge would be no different, and given its design to be destroyed over time, it didn’t seem as though they cared much for the destructive fallout of a battle between high ranking shinobi. He had agreed to a handicapped bout with his opponent beforehand, that disallowed the use of techniques against one another. A pair of highly skilled close quarter combatants could be its own source of entertainment, without the more ridiculous theatrics that typically accompanied such bouts.

“I'm early? That doesn’t usually happen.” Takao mused to himself, dull grey eyes scanning the length of the relatively empty bridge. The sun had shifted toward the later half of the day, casting a warm orange glow upon the cold stone. He shrugged the coat from his shoulders and turned his palm upward, revealing the bandages wrapped around his forearm. They held a seal, and used his opposite hand to form a seal. A plume of smoke appeared around the coat in his grasp, and disappeared with the article of clothing. Another rung of the seal appeared, as an indication that it had been safely stored within the seal placed upon the cloth wrappings.

Whilst he waited, Takao pulled a pair of gloves over his hands, and adjusted the form fitting shirt that clung to his torso. He was without the majority of the equipment that would accompany him in a true battlefield, the absence of such bringing forth its own unique sensation of anxiety in the form of a lack of preparedness. Those feelings were stuffed into the back of his head, lest they interrupt him in an unfortunate manner during combat. It brought him the slightest bit of solace to know that said gear was locked safely away within the very same seal that he had stored his jacket within. If need be, they were entirely accessible in an instant's notice, but he did not anticipate their usage. Not for this bout, at least.

He rolled his neck, cracked his knuckles, and mentally prepared himself for the first proper fight in far too long. It was the perfect way to shake off the rust.

The Uchiha moved through the village quietly, feeling bare without his armor and weapons upon his form. Though, while he felt bare without his equipment he knew it would not be needed with where he was going. He would simply have to do without. Syekren was on his way to the Bridge arena he'd seen during the chuunin exams for a bout of his own. As far as he was informed it would be a taijutsu only spectacle for the two combatants. Which made things much easier on his end, as using jutsu that he had would likely cause more damage to the environment than to the other ninja. With this thought in mind, the Uchiha sighed a bit and stopped just before turning down the path to the bridge. He'd been so lost in though he barely noticed he was almost to the arena. Syekren looked up to the sky and noted that it was about mid day, with little to no wind and very few clouds, despite their location. It was the perfect day for a hand to hand combat situation.

The ninja was dressed in blue jeans with black shoes, a short sleeve black shirt, which barely covered his ANBU and Uchiha tattoos, as well as the scar of sunagakure no sato's symbol. He wore his hitai-ate upon his forehead, proudly displaying his village's symbol to those who would see it as he stepped down the path towards the bridge quickly. While running, he stopped for a moment to light a cigarette and take a few puffs, continuing his run with the cigarette in his mouth, taking care not to get the ashes in his beard.  When he arrived to the location for the bout, he would come up on the opposite side of the bridge that his opponent had approached from, stepping onto the stone architecture and looking around. From what he'd seen of this arena in the exams, this would be interesting. Having to fight someone while fighting to keep your balance on a bridge that fell apart seemed to be pretty tough when the kids were doing it. Given that the two who were fighting were likely about the same rank, however, this might just be even harder.

Syekren silently let his mismatched blue eyes look around the place, his hand reaching up to take the cigarette from his mouth, flicking the ashes from his. His dull hue and bright hue stared straight towards his opponent, the man taking another long drag of his cigarette before he spoke. "Syekren of the Village Hidden in the Clouds. Jounin." With that he bowed to his opponent and flicked his cigarette off of the bridge to the abysmal fall below. His eyes wouldn't leave the other man as he quietly pushed one foot forward, pointed straight to the other man. His other foot was turn to the side and pointed out to the right to keep his balance in his stance. Syekren's hands were raised with one holding an open palm, fingers pointing towards the other, and his other hand becoming a closed fist, touching just above the elbow of his first. He would be in a traditional stance, with his 'Welcome' out and ready.

Much to Takao’s chagrin, he was largely unfamiliar with the abilities of shinobi from Kumogakure. His sole purpose in these exhibition matches was not solely for the sake of entertainment, although he would argue that such was largely the driving force behind his attendance. It was also partly to gain intelligence, and to learn more about whom the powers of the world were. He liked to investigate what he didn’t know, whether it be for his benefit or for his entertainment.

His patience eventually proved fruitful, and his opponent approached from the opposite end of the bridge. The smell of smoke had alerted him to the presence of the approaching shinobi long before his eyes had laid upon him. Unfamiliar in every regard, sans the foul odor of burnt tobacco that he was intimately familiar with. Yet there were clues that lead Takao to make assumptions over what he could expect in the bout. They boasted taijutsu prowess of unknown, yet certainly varying degree to one another. It wouldn’t have made sense to agree to a handicapped match in the manner that they had otherwise, lest deception lurk in their shadows. When the introduction was given, Takao’s dark eyes narrowed just slightly. A coy attempt at determining what he could through name and reputation, or simple respect and honour? Judging by the bow, the latter seemed to make the most sense, but the art of deception ran deep.

“Takao Kimura,” He said in response, offering the fellow shinobi a nod of recognition prior to speaking as he approached, closing the distance between them until a mere meter and a half remained. When he stood closer, Takao lifted his hands and pressed them together, bowing in respect to his opponent who had done the same for him just a moment earlier. Whilst he assumed his stance, he offered the last of his identifying introduction, and stated the words simply and clearly. “Konohagakure, Jōnin.” His right arm was lifted and remained open, hovering closer to his face than his left, which hovered at stomach height. His feet shifted into a wide stance, and his jaw lowered.

A brief moment passed before them, and the bell of the fight was rung, signaling them to start. Takao took initiative and struck first. His right arm swung up quickly as he stepped in, feinting a back fist that was just barely out of measure, not intended to fully connect, but rather to seem like it would and feign defense. Utilizing the speed of rotation from his hips, Takao completed a full spin in place following the back fist feint, and aimed a proper back fist with more rotational velocity and power behind it at his opponent’s head. A test strike, to help him further gauge the ability of his opponent.

Syekren silently studied his opponent who would bow back to him. The name Takao Kimura sent off no flags and rung no bells to the shinobi. The fact that he claimed to be from the village hidden in the leaves was interesting, but of no real consequence. The Uchiha studied Takao's stance silently, noting the different spots where it could be weak and noting where one well placed strike would end the fight entirely. When the bell rang for the bout to begin, the man before Syekren stepped in and swung with speed that the Uchiha was not expecting. It was a backfist that came and Syekren could barely react to be able to raise his arms in a counter measure to catch and hook the arm in his own. When it turned out to be a feint, the Uchiha took the brunt of the attack in his upper bicep and shoulder, cursing under his breath from the pain he would feel welling up, but wasn't a game ender by any means. He would not sit idly and reacted immediately, still keeping his arms up to hook towards the man's own for a grapple, feinting an elbow to the jaw of his adversary.

'Welcome'

The feint would be a decoy for another attack coming: a strike with the Uchiha's forehead coming towards the bridge of Takao's nose. Instead of staying the course with two blows, he'd use the close quarters and distraction of two seperate attacks to bring his  leg up to push his foot into the side of his adversary's knee with his full force. Would this strike hit the knee, it would undoubtedly pop the joint out of place and cause immediate bruising due to his brute strength in taijutsu. Were that the foot would be moved so the strike missed, the man would be left open to the headbutt that came and the bridge of his nose would feel the hard metal and bone of the other man's forehead and headband, breaking open skin and causing profuse bleeding. This wasn't Syekren's first rodeo and he'd fought in close quarters often. The bridge would begin to fall apart soon, but Syekren would ensure that he stayed right on his opponent and stuck close, offering him no room to breathe.

'Disperse'

Seconds after letting himself stomp towards the other's knee, he'd place his foot back onto the ground behind the leg of Takao while continuing to push forward, his forehead aimed at his left, Takao's right, side of his adversary's collarbone. He would attempt to keep his face there, letting out a slow breath while his left hand feinted to grab and control the right arm of Takao, his right hand becoming a fist to come towards the bottom three ribs thrice. Each strike would be strong enough to break the bones they hit, but they were only set strikes to allow the Uchiha to push his knee up towards the connector socket of Takao's left hip, aiming to push up with enough force to dislocate the left leg entirely from the socket and render his adversary at a severe handicap for the fight, aiming to make sure that he could not run from Syekren. The  Uchiha was playing dangerously close to the chest and aggressively, but it was his specialty and he'd give all he had to ensure that he wouldn't go down easily. It had been a total of six seconds during the multiple attacks the Uchiha had set out and taken in stride, it was up to his opponent to react.

TL;DR: Took hit to upper bicep and shoulder due to arms raising.
Used that to step forward and feint elbow to jaw, using that to lean forward and headbutt bridge of nose
While headbutting, kicked at your left knee to dislocate
Still moving forward, placed leg behind your left leg
Feinted grabbing your right arm with my left
Three punches to bottom two ribs during the second feint
During punches, using forward momentum to raise knee towards the inside of your legs, to dislocate your left leg from the hip socket.

Takao

Takao

S-rank

Takao was largely a reactionary fighter; his strength came from utilizing his opponent's movements against him. It wasn't an original take on close quarters combat, far from it in fact, but he had trained to do it better and faster than those whose brushes painted with the same strokes when making the art of battle. Each movement had the perfect reaction to it, and it was merely a matter of finding that opportunity fast enough to adequately react. In the seconds that followed his back fist making contact, he was not starved for choice of the opportunities he savoured.

Takao easily judged the distance of the incoming elbow, a strike that lacked the same maneuverability of a punch and therefore was easier to predict both trajectory and distance, and tipped his weight onto his back foot just enough to move his head out of its perceived path. It was a feint, however, intended to open his defenses for the forceful thrust of his head toward his own nose. The simple motion of pulling his head back wasn't enough to preoccupy him from reaction, and the necessary range needed to close that distance gave Takao's left arm enough time to thrust forward with an open palm. In addition to the distance, the shift of weight onto his rear leg offered additional force to his palm thrust. His intention was not necessarily to break anything, but push back hard with enough force to circumvent the attack entirely, stopping the headbutt dead in Syekren’s tracks. With his strength however, a solid fracture to the sternum would not be outside the realm of possibility. Should the headbutt have remained true on its path to him, the open palm thrust would surely be dealt.

Within seconds of the battle beginning, the ground beneath them began to rumble violently. Cracks tore through the stone and cement edges of the bridge up to a rough two and a half meters distance. Thankfully they had started their bout toward the center of the bridge, and as the edges began to crumble and fall away, neither of the combatants would feel a great sense of unbalance. Should his earlier palm thrust have made contact, he would grasp the fabric of Syekren’s shirt, and use it as leverage to pull him closer whilst simultaneously lifting his left knee, hell bound toward his opponent’s lower rib cage. This strike connecting would be painful, likely fracturing a pair of lower ribs if it made full, unadulterated contact. The opportunities that both presented themselves naturally through human motion as well as those created artificially through the same conduit were something Takao was choosing carefully. When he struck, he did so in such a way that he left an opportunity to defend himself from a counter. When he reacted, he did so to further his own chances to strike again.

He’s going to kill you. Burn him down into ash.

Takao mentally flinched as the voice plaguing his psyche spoke, the disembodied voice whispering right into his left ear. He knew why it was speaking up. A worthy adversary was a rare commodity as of late, and it posed a threat to his well-being. The voice, as detrimental to his mental health as it was, seemed to advocate for Takao not putting himself in danger. If nothing else, it was prone to underestimating his own capabilities, and tended to put him down. Fire was his solace, his proverbial fortress of solitude. When he was threatened, it made sense to burn it all down and reduce everything but himself to ash. But Takao pushed the thought back, ignoring it entirely. He was sure it would be back as the fight raged on, and it would be repressed each time it showed itself, so long as he remained in control.

Battle Summary
Takao reacted to the incoming elbow feint by leaning back, determining where it would be out of measure.
He intercepts the incoming headbutt with a chest-bound palm thrust and, as the bridge is partially collapsing, makes an attempt to grapple the fabric of his shirt and pull Syekren closer for the follow-up. Doing so would put Syekren off-balance from the pull and being on one leg, nullifying the attacks that follow the headbutt due to Takao’s 3-tier reaction time advantage and the counter that follows.
As Syekren would be pulled closer, Takao’s left knee is lifted and shot forward toward the lower portion of his rib cage, threatening him with a pair of broken or fractured if connected.

This wasn't really going to plan for the older Uchiha.  His feinted elbow went to plan, with the other male trying to duck backwards to avoid the blow, causing the Uchiha to follow through with his headbutt perfectly. What came next was nothing short of unexpected. Instead of his headbutt connecting to the bridge of Takao's nose as planned, the other man had decided to use his left arm to open palm strike the Uchiha's sternum in the middle of the headbutt, causing the Uchiha to be knocked back about a foot or two, while also suffering bruising and a fracture in his sternum. Nothing to be worried about now, but likely trouble for later if untreated or struck again. His eyes stayed on his opponent as the bridge began to fall apart around the two of them, the Uchiha being pulled in by his shirt towards the other male again during the time he was aiming three strikes towards the ribs of Takao. His elbow was met with a vicious knee the was aimed for his own ribs, causing momentary pain and a stinging feeling as though his funny bone was hit, connecting his own punch to the man's ribs at a much weaker velocity while he too took a scrape to his ribs. The man's knee hitting his elbow on the follow through prevented the worst of the damage but spelled something out for Syekren in certainty:

Takao was much faster.

Syekren wasn't usually the one on the end of being slower than his opponent. If anything, he was used to being the fastest. But during these few moments, as he was pulled forward and felt the pain in his sternum, elbow, and ribs, the realization of what was happening hit him all too hard and his blood began to boil. He had never been defeated in a straight up hand to hand match and didn't intend to allow such a thing now. As he was pulled forward, he made to headbutt the ninja again in the bridge of the nose, using the momentum and velocity of being pulled towards his opponent to his advantage. Coupled with the second headbutt, Syekren would firmly plant his foot on the ground behind his opponent's right leg, centering his body mass and keeping his knees bent to keep himself centered. The Uchiha  would learn from his previous mistake and keep both feet on the ground instead of trying anything fancy. His leg would jut out into the back of his opponent's leg, not to cause damage but to throw that leg off balance.

While he moved forward in the headbutt and jutted his leg out, Syekren would try to stay focused on the person in front of him, his own hands moving to grab the cloth of the man's shirt, his left stopping  just before grabbing to point all of his finger towards the ribs of the man about six inches from them. Within a faction of a second he would push this hand forward, pulling on the shirt to lead his opponent into the strike, curling his fingers down into a fist with his thumb overlapping the bottom of the index and middle fingers. The punch that came from six inches away was always overlooked when it came down to it, but had the propulsive force enough to break the two ribs they were aimed for. Everything was happening quickly and the bridge would continue to fall apart as the battle went on, the two would need to end their bout before the bridge gave way completely to something resembling a balast beam of space for the rest of their spar. Syekren had to formulate a plan to end this in a way that he still came through with victory, even if it meant taking more strikes.

His eyes went to the neck of his opponent and scanned their body within those few moments, judging the height and weight he was faced against. The two men were of the same height and likely around the same weight. Syekren had a noticeable bit of muscle over the other man and likely had just a few pounds or more of weight on him. If he had to, he could likely grapple the man and take him to the ground, as long as he jumped first, the momentum would carry the two to the ground and allow him to gain a victory. This would all depend on the next few moves of Takao and how he held himself as the bridge continued to collapse, but it would be something he wasn't exactly expecting. Hell, no one would really expect it as it wasn't something that was normally on the table of options for two fights in a hand to hand contest. He'd keep his mind on what was happening, but held that plan in the back of his thoughts for the time when he'd be able to implant a jump and flying grapple to take his opponent down. This would be over if he could just get his attacks to hit. Which seemed like a harder task to accomplish, given that his opponent was so much faster than him.

The Uchiha felt a shiver go down his spine. Was this, excitement? It had been too long since he'd found someone worthy of fighting him in a hand to hand contest and even longer since he'd been completely outmatched by their sheer prowess and strength. The blows he'd taken already were stinking and would likely bruise, possibly needing bones reset . By the time this battle would be over, he would likely need to lay in a hospital bed for a few hours while medical ninja healed him. A smile crossed his lips as he thought of this, making a mental note to offer the man a drink with him after all of this was said and done. You never know when you're going to find someone else who can match you in a contest of blows, might as well try to make a friend of them when you do. It would work out for Syekren as well, especially if he did lose this contest. He would be able to keep in contact with this Takao of Konohagakure no sato and eventually challenge him to a rematch, where, quite possibly, things would have to go different for the two of them. But he was getting ahead of himself and was likely almost too distracted and would push these thoughts to the back of his mind so that he could focus first on not getting knocked off of the bridge.

Takao

Takao

S-rank
A classic exchange of blows occurred when the pair of well-trained shinobi traded strikes. His palm thrust to Syekren’s torso followed through and brought momentary pause to the headbutt that had previously been aimed. As he pulled him forward for the follow up with his knee, the opportunity taken was misjudged, and the sturdy joint collided with another. The pair of bones colliding was equally as painful to him as it was to Syekren in theory, although his opponent might have been just a tad worse for wear should his ulnar nerve have suffered the brunt of the blow. Takao bit back the pain as his leg returned to the ground, but not before one of the trifecta of strikes landed upon his torso. The pressure from the strike sank deep into the dermis of his midsection, causing burst blood vessels to leak into his skin and develop a very noticeable bruise, had it not been for the shirt that hid his bare torso. Beneath the freshly bruised skin, a hairline fracture scratched the surface of his lowermost rib on the right side, just above where the strike had connected. Sitting up in the morning would be a considerably more painful chore until that healed, but it beat the hell out of receiving a proper blow at full power-- or three, for that matter.

The bout was far from over, and yet the pair of shinobi raged on with ferocity to match how they started. Once more, the bridge rumbled, and the manufactured fault lines in its construction gave way to an even smaller field of battle. It seemed that with each handful of seconds that passed, their options of mobility grew smaller and smaller as the bridge was eaten away for the sake of added risk and theatrics. If nothing else, the theme was unique and interesting, and provided a challenge unlike he had been willingly subjected to before. Takao, who seemed both aware of their change in foothold but still focused on the battle, was indeed largely unconcerned on the outside. That resolute, unwavering expression gave little if anything at all away; even his pain was well hidden from prying eyes. If anything, the prospect of their options narrowing in line with the bridge brought him more confidence. He had been primarily acting in defense or reaction to the strikes dealt, sans the initial blow that he enacted upon Syekren. When the time came to control the flow of battle, he would outpace Syekren, and truly overwhelm him. But that time had not yet come, and their battle could be decided and ended with a single strike, so each step made was done so with caution.

Syekren’s offensive had not yet ceased. Using the momentum generated from Takao pulling him closer, his opponent opted for another headbutt. This particular move was becoming predictable, and Takao fully expected the risky maneuver that frequented his opponent’s martial repertoire to show itself once again, when the opportunity arose. Having recovered his balance from his knee striking Syekren’s elbow, he turned his torso counter clockwise in preparation for a follow up. However, his deltoid was struck by the brunt force of Syekren’s forehead, eliciting a grunt from deep within Takao’s chest. The muscle in his shoulder was tough, conditioned and hardened through years of intense training and use, and even more so when braced against his torso. But even still, the damage dealt to the muscle was undeniable and significant. More blood vessels burst, and more blood spilled into his skin, staining it in likeness with his ribs. Another uncomfortable surprise he would have in the morning, but nothing that was too debilitating just yet. He certainly wouldn’t want to take another blow in the same spot.

Another predictable maneuver graced their humble bout when Syekren attempted to slither his leg behind Takao’s forefoot again, not too unlike a snake coming out of nowhere. Having made notice of this attempt, Takao utilized the motion carefully and reacted quickly. His right foot slid back and, upon making firm contact with the concrete below, allowed him to shift his weight between feet and slide his left to the side. This opened up a new range of motion whilst Syekren aimed to grab his shirt-- or aimed to appear to do so. Takao, who had been intending to avoid the grab all together, was not expecting the grab to turn into a punch. His torso jerked clockwise to wind up a lightning fast jab, sacrificing the power lost from the weight placed on his left forefoot for the sake of speed. The jab, which was aimed with his left hand that had lifted his index and middle proximal interphalangeal joints (middle knuckles), was aimed directly for Syekrin’s right kidney. This strike did not have the power behind it to rupture organs or splinter bones, having lost the momentum of a proper rooted stance as well as Takao himself holding back from the strike’s fullest potential for the sake of good sportsmanship, and was instead aimed to cause significant and debilitating pain and discomfort to his opponent.

At the same time, Takao’s torso rotation proved to be only somewhat of a saving grace from Syekren’s grapple turned punch. The bottom pair of his base knuckles skimmed Takao’s bottom-most pair of ribs. The force of the strike, despite being unintentionally turned into a glancing blow by Takao’s own choice of action, still managed to grace both of the ribs with a vertical fracture. The bruising, not unlike his deltoid and the mirrored rib on his other side, would be more icing on the proverbial cake of pain. Had he focused more on the damage, perhaps he might have felt the blood spilling from their burst vessels and clouding his skin with an unsavoury shade of red and pink.

Burn him now. That strike cracked your ribs. He’s going to take advantage of it. He will kill you.

Takao mentally flinched for naught but a second, and recovered flawlessly from the visceral voice that plagued his psyche. It whispered in his ear like somebody was stood just behind him, hunched over his shoulder, speaking words that urged destruction. He ignored it again, pushed it back down and swallowed it just like he always had.

He’s trying to kill you. Destroy him now. Set him alight and burn him down into ash. Burn it all. The fire will protect you.

With each time it spoke, he could feel it grow louder. If the fight went on for too long, the voice would become impossible to ignore. He would fight back against what it said, and push it down with the strong will that burned within him, and hope that it didn’t overwhelm him. But for now, he was fine, and he could fight unhindered.

With a mere two and a quarter meters of bridge remaining on either side of them, Takao opted out of attempting another second strike. He pushed down hard on his left foot, putting a meter of distance between himself and Syekren, and intentionally centering himself on what remained of their arena stage. When the sides did fall, even if Syekren re-engaged combat immediately, Takao would have the very brief opportunity to right his footwork and regain his balance.

“You’re not bad,” Takao said, a genuine smirk pulling the right corner of his mouth up into his cheek. He wasted little time in falling back into a fighting stance, this time rooting his footwork within a safe margin where he had estimated the next collapse of stage to occur. His hands were tightened into fists, right over left, with either pointing inward toward the other. Takao’s weight came to rest on his back leg, his right placed forward and pointing half a right angle off center with Syekren. “I’ll be feeling those bruises tomorrow.” He added after effortlessly falling into a stance that differed heavily from his reactionary based one before. With his stance firmly rooted on the concrete, he awaited the rumble of the remaining portion of the bridge to give way, and for the real battle between the two Jōnin to begin.

Black eyes glimmered, even behind his dull irises there was an obvious fire burning within. He was steadfast and unwavering, even if every fiber of his mental being was shaking with excitement.

“I think this fight is about to get a lot more interesting.”

Battle Summary
Takao sustained damage from the exchange of blows, although the damage to his knee was superficial and moderate pain. Having expected another headbutt, his torso was rotated and his right arm was braced against his body, taking the hit in place of the headbutt, causing deep, significant bruising.

Reacting quickly to Syekren's feigned grapple turned punch, Takao's torso rotated clockwise, and he aimed a fast, low-power jab at Syekren's kidney, intended to deal pain rather than significant damage. His attempt at avoiding the grab, which was actually a punch, resulted in him sustaining minor fractures and significant bruising along his bottom left two ribs.

Also Takao is going a little crazy schizo \o/ (just a little)

Syekren felt his head make contact with something solid, but when he looked he realized it wasn't his initial target: it was the other man's shoulder that took the brunt of the damage. There would likely be a nasty bruise there if nothing else, and possible fractures.  Syekren moving his leg behind that of Takao didn't work as well as he'd hoped and it ended with the other jonin landing a quick strike to his kidney at the same time his six inch punch had attempted to land upon the lower ribs of Takao's right side. While the kidney shot wasn't that bad, it still gave him quite a bit of pain and he knew he would be feeling it for quite a while. If there was any more power behind it, he likely wouldn't be able to take a drink to dull it later. That sort of thought amused him, because of course he'd still do it regardless, he just hoped his other kidney would be able to pick up any slack that was given to it. When Takao put a meter of distance between the two, Syekren hand reached back to hold his kidney, rubbing the area gingerly. He'd let his defenses down a bit and was paying for it from that strike, he would have to be careful. Any more of those and he would likely be out of commission.

The Uchiha watched as the other man got into a position again, the bridge barely having much more than a couple meters wide left, meaning this battle was about to get really interesting, or needed to end really quickly. He was still rubbing his kidney area when the other male seemed to start a bit of mid-battle batter. A smirk pulling across his lips, telling the Uchiha that he 'wasn't bad.' Takao fell into a stance different from the one he had at the start of their battle, adding on that he'd be feelign the bruises he was given tomorrow. The Uchiha's eyes watched his silently, flickering between the sharingan and his normal eyes, but staying on the mismatched azure hues after a moment. He sighed and raised his arms, stretching his back and popping a few of the vertebrae to ease some of his discomfort. He twisted to and fro for a few seconds, trying to loosen himself up before he fell into a wider stance, right foot back, pointing straight with his left foot pointing straight as well. His knees were bent and his back kept striaght while he kept from raising his hands for the time being, tilting his head to give his neck a crack.

"You're not so bad yourself, Takao of the leaf. It's been too long since I've found a worthy adversary to go toe to  toe with me in a taijutsu bout. After this is over we'll have to share a drink on me." The Uchiha reached back to his back pocket to tap it and ensure his metal flask with firebrand whiskey was still there. Satisfied to find that it, in fact, was still in his back pocket for the time being, the Uchiha raised his hands to fists in front of his torso. He would have to do something unpredictable and unprecedented in the last legs of this bout to ensure that whether he won or lost, he would have something to be proud about. Perhaps he would even make a new friend while he was at it if he played his cards right. You never knew when contacts in multiple villages would come in handy. Syekren thought for a moment, judging the distance between the two of them, as well as how quickly the bridge was deteriorating. Within a few seconds or minutes, the bridge pieces would fall away again, leaving about a half meter of space for them to fight on while moving forwards or backwards. If he timed it right, he may just be able to make this battle end in a draw, or at least go out swinging.

Syekren looked around the bridge silently, and looked down. From what he could see over the edge closest to him, there was still the net that had been erected for the battles between the genin during the chuunin exams' first battle rounds. This would be handy to him if he could just make sure it would get some use. An idea came to his mind as he looked at the distance between them and noticed those eyes with a burning fire behind them. He would likely be able to use something as a distraction to set his attack up. Without thinking too much more, he reached to the bottom of his shirt hems and pulled it up over his head, taking it off to expose his bare abdomen and torso. There would be a scar in the shape of an 'x' upon his chest in between his pectoral muscles, with the center being spherial as though pierced by a cone object. He had the scar of sunagakure no sato's symbol upon his left should underneath the Uchiha symbol, and on his right shoulder was the tattoo for the ANBU black ops. He held his shirt in his hand, looking down to inspect his body for and marks and noticed the bruise from the palm strike, shaking his head. "Damn."

That's all he said before his arm lurched forward with a quickness, throwing his shirt with a ferocity unseen from him before. The shirt was aimed towards the face of Takao, to obscure his vision if possible. The uchiha knew he wouldn't let it hit him and so as soon as he threw the shirt he would move forward, ducking down to swing his right leg in a roundhouse kick when he was close enough. He would pull his leg back in just before it would hit the other man, bring it back to his side and using the momentum to twist his body quickly to aim towards the left side of the bridge, to the edge. He would the jump up and forward, leaning back to have his arms come towards the neck of Takao, wrapping around it and pulling with the Uchiha's mass and speed to drop the both of them towards the bridge's edge. This was planned so at that moment it would be time for the bridge to break for the final time, opening up the abysmal fall for the two of them so they would be falling into the chasm. If his distraction worked, they'd both be flung off the bridge, heading towards the net below and would hit it within a few seconds, bouncing harmlessly.

The Uchiha could have sworn as he pulled himself into the jump and wrapped his arms around the neck of his adversary, he heard a scream from where a crowd could watch the bouts say: "AND ITS OUT OF NOWHERE." He figured it was just a part of his imagination and tried to pay it no mind as he awaited the inevitable impact

Takao

Takao

The ground around them shook violently as cement crumbled away in predictable fashion, cracking and falling along premade fault lines. A mere half meter wide beam of bridge remained in place, suspended above the large nets below. Takao had little fear of heights, and his balance was impeccable even with the vast majority of lateral movement options having been severely deteriorated as part of the arena’s pre-planned destruction. He adjusted his footwork just slightly, remaining upon the last fragile section of bridge that remained. Had the pair been utilizing jutsu, the battle likely would have been over before the second section of bridge had fallen by itself. Takao himself had a myriad of techniques that would have reduced Syekren’s half of the bridge to dust, and he had little doubt that the other shinobi was without similar destructive capabilities. He stood steadfast like a brick wall, his stance held and firmly rooted like an oak. His change of style was obvious at a glance; when he had the room to maneuver, his style was more mobile and airy, and his stance reflected that. It was loose and limber, ready to react and move around in the space provided. Now that no such additional space existed, he had taken to a heavier stance, intent on being more difficult to approach and dealing out more damage than before.

Syekren decided to entertain Takao’s banter, prolonging the match ever so slightly whilst the remnants of the bridge descended into the deep abyss looming below.

“Same here. Not a lot of people are willing to handicap themselves; usually they just want to win and they’ll do anything to achieve that.” He said, offering a bit of insight regarding his opinions of the match. Takao was somebody who was highly critical of the competitive nature of shinobi, how they were always so eager to win and how it infringed on what the raven-haired shinobi personally viewed the essence of being a ninja was. Surely there was some aspect of stealth that was intended, but largely disregarded for the sake of theatrical and fantastical competition.

“Can’t beat a good challenge. Can’t say no to a free drink either.” He said whilst the faintest of smirks tugged at the corner of his mouth. This battle had turned out to be far more entertaining than he had expected. Given the nature of the handicap, he expected either himself to steamroll his opponent, or his opponent to steamroll him, but the pair were matched evenly enough to enjoy a proper bout. They suffered the folly of their respective skill levels of course, as each strike was deadly and quite dangerous to the other. Either one of the combatants would be lucky to walk away without some kind of severe fracture threatening the integrity of their bones.

Takao was moderately surprised to watch his opponent disrobe, or at least begin the process with his shirt. He didn’t think much of it, plenty of folks enjoyed fighting in their skivvies. In fact, for some of the more undesirable people, it was a prerequisite that preceded combat to rip one’s shirt off and discard it.

The raven-haired shinobi examined the marks upon Syekren’s torso, not so much for the sake of admiration (n-not like he likes you or anything, b-baka) but rather evaluation. He bore several defining marks upon his flesh; A large scar from a conical implement, the result of a wound long since healed. The symbol of Sunagakure, which implied some form of tie to the village, whether it be former allegiance or otherwise. Then there were the last pair of symbols that were extra telling. The Uchiha symbol paired with the Sunagakure emblem, and the classic ANBU Black Ops symbol as well. Black eyes narrowed, and he became more aware of where his gaze laid, no longer making eye contact with his opponent. This myriad of imagery upon his body was like an unspoken story; varying pieces of a puzzle that helped Takao to better understand his opponent. His allegiance with Sunagakure, which was most likely shelved following its destruction and his indoctrination into Kumogakure. His possible association with the Uchiha bloodline, which could have been a red herring, or a blatant display of clan pride. His training as an operative of the Black Ops, either of Sunagakure or Kumogakure, or perhaps another village that he had previously sworn loyalty to. In that simple action of shirt removal, Syekren had revealed much about him. But Takao remained skeptical and critical; everything that was revealed were only things that his opponent wanted him to see. The life of a shinobi was rife with deception and manipulation, and he wasn’t keen on being taken for a fool because of the marks upon one’s flesh.

Takao, unprepared for the shirt throwing flourish, reached out and caught the balled cloth of distraction before it could collide with him. The look on his face was one of mild annoyance, as if moderately insulted that the sweat-ridden article of clothing was thrown at him with such wanton veracity.

“Really? We’re resorting to throwing our sweaty clothes at each other no-” Takao said, lowering the shirt just in time to see his opponent in full sprint, closing the distance between them. His jaw tensed, figuring that the shirt was to be used as a distraction, and prepared himself to receive the blow to the leg. He tensed the muscle and braced his footwork, but he was caught off guard by the ludacris wrestling maneuver enacted upon him instead. Takao was prepared to react even after he was grappled by the neck and his balance torn from the remaining surface of the bridge. But as he lifted his elbow, prepared to turn and twist, sending the hard bone straight into Syekren’s damaged sternum, he had taken notice of his predicament. Both of them were plummeting, and continuing the battle mid-air would do very little besides continue a fight that was already over.

“You loony bastard!” Takao yelled as the pair fell, eventually landing on a safe portion of the net below them. Thankfully, the majority of the bridge had fallen through the openings of the net, or collected at the very bottom, where the pair had not fallen and landed. Breath escaped Takao’s lungs in a long, drawn out exhale, enjoying the sensation of no longer being on his feet after the bout. Grunting as his body sat up and the bruises upon his ribs and shoulder ached, he eventually found a more comfortable position to remain in.

“Well, alright then. Guess we’ll call that a draw.” He said, slowly rolling his thoroughly bruised shoulder, and biting back a hiss of pain. The shinobi didn’t wait long before he removed a small, rectangular carton from his pocket, slightly damaged from their skirmish, and shook a single cigarette from within. He pulled it from the carton and let it hang lazily from the corner of his mouth whilst he exhaled a single ember of a flame. The paper and tobacco caught as he inhaled a lung full of smoke whilst his hand stretched out, offering one to Syekren.

“Smoke?”

And so they went, falling from the bridge, or what was left of it at half a meter wide, towards the net below them, far below. The two ninja were likely lucky that there was a net below, otherwise they would likely both have died then and there. Syekren would have been fine with either, he'd lived a long life and had a few regrets, but he did the very best that he could. He could hear the protests of Takao as he dragged the other man down with him, calling him crazy, or a loon or something of that nature. They fell quickly and without too much struggle, onto the safer part of the net far below the bridge, where pieces of rubble had not bothered to touch.  They landed, with Syekren letting out a grunt as the air was knocked from him momentarily. His arms were still around the neck of Takao and slowly he pulled them away, laying them on his injured sternum ever so gently. Syekren looked up at the sky, and let out a long sigh, thankful that that battle was over before he could sustain too much more damage. The Uchiha lay there quietly for a moment, not speaking to his former combatant until he'd collected his thoughts on how much damage had actually been done to his body.

A lot, but not enough to warrant immediate medical attention. Good enough.

It was Takao who spoke first, mentioning that they should call the battle a draw, Syekren smirked quietly and nodded. "Aye, I guess we will. Maybe we'll do it again, but with jutsu and the like next time, yea?" Syekren turned his head as the other man lit up a cigarette for himself and offered one to the Uchiha. Not one to turn down one of his vices, the man nodded in thanks and pulled one from the pack for himself and placed it between his lips. He'd sit up, ignoring the throbbing at multiple points in his body as it protested against the action, raising his had up to the paper, of the cigarette. He let his index finger touch the paper and focused his katon aligned chakra into it, causing the end of the paper to come alight. After puffing on it a few times, the Uchiha shook the flames from his hand and took a long drag on the tobacco rolled in paper, relishing the sweet taste of sin that came with such a thing. Well, sin was subjective, but that's what he'd heard it called so many times he got used to seeing it in such a way. With his now extinguished hand, Syekren reached into the back pocket which held his flask and pulled it out, shaking the metal container. There was plenty of alcohol left in it and the Uchiha smiled to himself.

He thumbed the top and turned it until it popped off and opened up. With his free hand, he removed the cigarette from his lips and took a heart swig of the amber liquid inside the metal flask. It had a burning flavour, as though katon itself was alight in the bottle and smelled smoky with a hint of cinnamon. After he finished his swig, he let out a sigh of happiness and held the flask towards the other jounin. With a smirk he nodded to the flask and spoke once more. "Here's a bit of that drink I mentioned. Be careful she has a bit of bite to her." After he held it out, were that the other male took the flask he replaced the cigarette in his mouth and dropped his hand into his lap, looking about the place. They would have quite the time crawling the net to get to the walls and pull themselves out. But they were both Jounin and likely had some experience doing such. After a moment, he'd comment on the alcohol once more. "Fire Brand Whiskey. Used to be made back in Sunagakure, now it's all over. Not as good as it used to be when it was made in my old home village, but you take what you can get. It's infused with cinnamon, smoky flavours and even has katon chakra forced into it. I think it has quite a nice blend."

The Uchiha took another drag of his cigarette and flicked it through the holes in the net, looking down. They had fallen quite a ways, but they had so much farther that htey could have fallen. Normally when faced with one's own mortality they would reconsider whatever foolish acts had transpired previously. At this point, Syekren only wondered what was at the bottom of the abyssal fall they both could have taken if the net hadn't been erected for the Chuunin Exams. Syekren sat there quietly, until he remembered a bit of information from earlier, tilting his head to look back over at Takao. "You said you were from Konohagakure right? I spent some time there, even picked up a kid and adopted her as my daughter.  You wouldn't happen to have any information about an old hideout that used to be out in the forests would you? I've been trying to find the location of it for a little project of mine and have yet to find the ruins of it. You'd think there would be more information on the public records but there isn't. Found their compound and have a house right next to it, but nothing in their records mentions the location either. Likely gone, rotted, or burned if any of their scrolls did mention it." The Uchiha was unsure why he was asking this Takao for the information that he needed, but he knew that he would get nowhere if he didn't try, as his agents in Konoha hadn't exactly been making progress either. He eyed the Konoha jounin warily after asking his question and took another puff of his cigarette, waiting patiently on the answer, hoping it would be the one he sought.

Takao

Takao laid reclined against the net, finding comfort in the woven entrapment device that had retarded their fall after the sudden, intense burst of physical activity. He cast his gaze downward into the abyss that loomed below and gazed unto it, his own eyes black like the chasm under them staring deep into its depths for a moment. The fight would have carried a significant amount of weight had there been no net, however given that they had genin fighting on the fight, it made sense for such a safety precaution to exist. He didn’t suspect that many villages fancied killing off children in the name of sport and entertainment, but he had been wrong before. Perhaps some villages that hosted the exams might seek to see fatalities in the prospective shinobi of another nation, which would surely weaken their forces over time. Takao’s mental musings continued to carry his thoughts in various directions, in typical fashion for the Jōnin with a penchant for overthinking mundane notions.

The sensation of smoke filling his lungs as he inhaled deeply was one Takao found comfort in. The extent in which it calmed him almost made their negative impacts on his health justifiable, but only almost. He had long since learned how to drag them out and make the feeling of safety and comfort they brought last. His gaze moved away from the abyss below them and laid skyward at the bridge, watching the occasional puff of caustic white smoke that he exhaled through his nostrils.

When Syekren mentioned that their next bout would include the usage of jutsu, a smirk pulled the corner of his mouth into his cheek. The locale of this fight had hardly been proper for Takao to use the contents of his shinobi repertoire, which would have left Syekren hard pressed to evade. At the very least, their fight would have left very little of the bridge standing from Takao’s own doing. After one witnessed the raven-haired shinobi’s employment of techniques, it became difficult to deny his incredibly destructive nature.

“Jutsu is it.” He replied simply, talking through the smoke leaving his mouth. His gaze turned sidelong as he was offered the flask, which he took in his left while his right temporarily removed the cigarette. Lifting the opening to his nose permeated the faint smell of cinnamon into his nostrils amidst the overpowering scent of alcohol. He had seen Syekren drink it before handing it over, which appeased his natural suspicion, which urged him to throw back a swig. His expression lightened and his eyebrows raised in pleasant surprise upon tasting it. His attention then turned from the flask to Syekren as he gave context to the contents of the metallic receptacle.

“Fire Brand Whiskey,” Takao parroted, as if speaking the name would help him to remember. “I’ll have to get some of that for myself. It’s good stuff.” He said while handing the flask back to Syekren and returning the cigarette to his mouth. Another long drag burned the paper and tobacco, filling his lungs with more smoke. “My condolences for that tragedy in Sunagakure. Was a real shame.” He said whilst exhaling more smoke. He had little interest in the village and country as a whole, but it was difficult to not find some sense of sorrow in the uprooting of a nation filled with innocents.

When Syekren went on to inquire about the location of a vaguely described hideout, Takao showed little reaction on the outside while his mind quickly surged through a myriad of possibilities. He lifted his hand to slide the cigarette between his index and middle fingers, removing it from his mouth as he exhaled.

“I know of multiple. The Fire Country is filled with them.” He said, sitting up from the net and slowly rising to stand. Whilst his equilibrium was upset by the lack of solid ground beneath his feet, he seemed to have little issue with standing upon the netted surface. As he continued to speak, chakra began to flood his legs in preparation for the ascent.

“But that’s not the sort of thing I speak of frivolously. I’m sure you can understand why. I’m heading to Kirigakure after this, and then back to Konohagakure. Find me in either place, and I’ll tell you what I know. If we meet up again in the Hidden Leaf, I’ll even show you.” Takao said as his legs began to tense.

“Anyway, thanks for the spar, and I owe you for tipping me off about the drink. I’ll see you around.” He finished. Upon doing so, he released the chakra in his legs. Despite the uneven and unsupported footing of the net below him, the chakra allowed him to leap skyward with ease. The pressure exerted from the chakra released when he jumped left a slight gust of wind circulating in the immediate area, though it was largely negligible and little more than an annoyance. His legs kicked out to the side prior to landing, dispelling the chakra outward rather than concentrating it onto the last remaining portion of the bridge he landed upon. Having safely and harmlessly jumped up from the net to the bridge, he began to walk along the narrow surface, offering a wave to Syekren below as he finished the cigarette and exhaled a second ember, burning the remnants of the paper and filter down to ash.

Syekren lay there, nursing his wounds with the bottle of whiskey and his cigarette which took three more puffs before it was ready to toss. He'd laid down after Takao had jumped up from the net and disappeared, entrenched in thought. He hadn't been specific about what he needed but this young man had told him that if they'd met in Kirigakure or Konohagakure, then he would tell him what he needed to know. Furthermore, if Syekren actually met him in Konohagakure and found him, Takao would actually show him where the hideout in question was. That was the final piece of a puzzle long unsolved. The Uchiha would finally find the location of the old Uchiha hideout and rebuild it for his own purposes. He would need to be clever about the applications of such a strategically placed base, as well as to keep it mostly quiet. Syekren took a healthy swig of his firebrand whiskey in the flask, staring up at the sky  as he contemplated exactly how he was going to pull off rebuilding and entire hideout without arousing suspicion. Further more, how would he do so in the first place? This was one of the time Syekren wished he had some sort of wood jutsu that would create structures for him. This wasn't the time to bother with such a thing however. He would need to get out of the net and climb back up to the village for now. He had to make ready to travel to the land of water with Izumi once the chuunin exams were finished and he didn't want to hear her complaining if he was even a second late. And so he stood, concentrating chakra into the bottom of his feet and began walking upright upon the net. Due to the supernatural walking technique, he was able to expertly use the net's buoyancy and movement to his advantage, making it to the stone wall of the net before placing a foot against it. When he could he would kick his other foot up and rest it against the wall, beginning to walk upwards, drinking from his flask carefully as he did so. It would take a few minutes to reach the top, but when he did he finished what was left of his flask, heading to the village hidden in the clouds for more. There was a small inkling in his head that this would definitely not be the last time that he and Takao would meet. Syekren could just feel that they would be fighting again but there would be a more clear cut winner that time. Hopefully they would still have a chance for Syekren to figure out where the hideout he was searching for was. When he arrived in the village again, Syekren looked around for a minute before slipping into the shadows  to make his way back to his apartment he was afforded as a ninja just joining Kumogakure. This time he was sure he didn't feel he was followed, and after taking a good look around to make sure, he nodded and slipped into his apartment, locking the doors.
