The water of the sea splashed peacefully upon the sands of the Mizu no kuni's shores, the white foam on the gentle waves washing over the shoes of a man standing near the edge of the water at low tide. He seemed to be deep in thought, waiting for people to arrive, almost looking like he was just another person taking in the surprisingly peaceful and tranquil scenery of the country post Hao's attack and post its brutal ways of life.

After nearly an hour of waiting, three shadows approached atop a cliff nearby the man's location, while the man himself was visited by a person wearing a large straw hat to cover their face and simple farmer's clothes.

"How fares the assignment, Hataro," The man dressed in his purple coat with furlined collar looked at the mysterious visitor, his lips curling into an eerie looking, faint smile as his eyes slowly turned towards the shadows atop the cliff in an almost unnoticable fashion. "I reckon you've done as I asked, good. Now I want you to gather intel on this country's strength, their hidden village's warpotential and most importantly...I need you to figure out Kirigakure's inner workings."

The mysterious person quickly kneeled and leaned its covered head forward before vanishing into thin air, while a thick mist seemed to come up from the waters of the sea. Low tide had ended and the waves were reclaiming the shores again, but the man simply remained standing at the very spot he had stood in that entire time. "There's no point in hiding, my dear ANBU friends, if you want to do something to me, I suggest you'd be quick about it."

The three shadows moved quickly, zooming down the cliff's edge and landing on the soft sands of the shore, revealing themselves to be exactly what the man had called them: ANBU agents of kirigakure; an elite force that protected the hidden village of all threats and operated in the shadows at the behest of their mizukage.

Without even saying a word, without even allowing the man in question to make a move or say another word himself, one of the Anbu quickly made a few handseals and placed a few fingers in front of his mask, blowing a stream of hot and thick steam towards the nameless man they were up against.

The steam blew away the mist and remained in its place for a few seconds, yet it did not seem to have the desired effect, as the nameless man stepped out of the hot substance with only a singed and slightly wet coat, yet otherwise completely unfazed by this initial attack. "A decent effort, but I do hope you have better things to throw at me."

Shocked, yet not completely overwhelmed, the two other shinobi pooled their strengths, with one of them making a bunch of handseals before raising their hand into the air, forming easily a thousand sharp and lethal needles out of water, while the other seemed to make the air around the needles a lot colder, turning them into icey, cold blades waiting to be thrown at the nameless man. the shinobi who held up the needles threw down his hand, launching all of the needles at the man wearing the purple, furlined coat with the hopes of piercing the victim until northing but a perforated body would be left.

Alas, yet again, the man in question seemed to be able to react to this issue by blowing all the needles away by letting out a strong and effective stream of wind from his mouth, powerful enough to whip up the sand and forcing the three ANBU shinobi to hold on to whatever they could to prevent themselves from being blown away.

Suddenly, without even making a sound, the monstrously powerful man had vanished from his own position and stood right in front of the shinobi who had earlier shown to be of the Osada clan with his steam-based attack. In the time it took for a human's eye to blink, faster than a human's eyes and brains could collect visual information and process it, that same Osada clan ANBU member dropped to the ground, blood pooling and splurting out of his neck, while the head was nowhere to be seen.

"Now, I think I've given you enough opportunities to attack," The man laughed, while the two other Anbu agents were frozen in terror at the very sight of their headless, dead comrade on the soft sand of the beach. "If this is what you call ANBU,
than Kirigakure will be mine sooner than expected."

The shinobi who had created the water needles tried to create a few handsigns, yet as he wanted to place his hands together, he could feel something pierce his chest. His hands could not be placed together, as there was something in between them and as he looked down, the shinobi finally realized it was the man's arm which had lodged itself firmly into his chest.

With the sickening sound of muscles ripping, tendons snapping and bone shattering and crushing, the shinobi's upper half was ripped open and torn asunder by the strange individual with the purple, furlined coat, becoming yet another testament of the stranger's insurmountable strength and power.

"Now than, I'll let you live and run to Kirigakure with this news. The third shinobi nearly soiled himself when hearing the man talk to him and rather than trying to be as valiant as his comrades and try to plausibly unsuccefully attempt to stop the man, the kirigakure Anbu nodded with a whimpering cry to be heard from behind the mask, before turning around and running away.

"Such pitiful fools this village has to serve it"

The shinobi could feel something coarse through the back of his left knee, hearing the sound of his own kneecap shooting away as he crumbled onto the sand, his leg bleeding profusely as the knee had been torn to shreds by some sort of projectile. Not a word came out of the poor shinobi's mouth, when a bullet consisting out of pressurized air was fired through the poor man's mask and drilled into the soft sand of the shore, with blood and brain coloring the pearly white beach red right beneath the head.

"It is truly amazing how unprepared some villages are," The man sighed, using a piece of cloth to clean of his hands. "Quite surprising to see that Konoha has yet to tell them that I'm not at a mere jounin's level. Ah well, not that it would matter...there's not a single soul alive who'd be able to actually threaten me."

Regular meetings with the other ANBU and Hunter-nin captains bored Nozomi. She was one of the strongest Hunter-nin and Jounin in Kirigakure, and was easily qualified as a captain, but that didn't mean that she enjoyed the less noted parts. Of course, she needed to help oversee the trainings of other Hunter-nin and ANBU members, but there was a lesser known area, and that was the meetings. They consisted mainly of updating the Bingo-books, re-establishing targets and re-evaluating the people in the Bingo books. The ANBU talked more than the Hunters, as they were more focused on the issues of village protection, but the Hunters were still recommended to sit in on the conversations. Some opted not to, of course, but Nozomi liked to know what was going on.

It was somewhat of a relief when an ANBU member busted into the meeting with a smaller force of ANBU trailing behind him. The sense of urgency was so apparent that nobody even bothered to admonish him for interrupting the meeting. Almost immediately, Nozomi was out of her seat and approaching the man, her eyes flashing in anticipation behind her angelic mask. If there was something this urgent, then she would be one of the first to go out and address the situation.

"Multiple ANBU are dead already! There's a man of immense strength. Intel suggests it's Orochi Enaka of Konoha. He needs to be pushed back now. Last confirmation was near Shore Side. Supreme caution urged." the words flowed out of the ANBU's mouth, and Nozomi was gone before he could even complete the rest. She'd fight him and hold him back while the rest formed groups and prepared to take him out. This was the sort of test she had really wanted. Syn hadn't been enough, the hordes of the soldiers in the Undersea City weren't enough, and even Gin wasn't truly the  test she'd wanted. She could go all out against Enaka.

Of course, she could end up dead, but that was the price she would pay as a Hunter-nin. But she doubted it. The other ANBU and Hunters wouldn't take long to mobilize and she'd have backup soon enough. If she was lucky, she would be able to take him down before that happened, and if not, she'd fare well enough.

Nozomi never thought Orochi Enaka would be someone she'd fight. Of course he was in their Bingo book, and all of them knew who he was. The alliance between Kiri and Konoha was quite strong, and the information shared between the two of them wasn't small. Especially when it came to dangerous and powerful shinobi. Her weights would definitely have to factor into this fight, and allow her to keep up with even Ayakashi's movements. Due to her somewhat rushed head start, and the fact that her speed was faster than most people's even with the weights on.

With the speed boost advantage on her side, and knowing that the benefit wouldn't last forever, she wouldn't stop to engage in pleasantries once she got track of him and removed her weights. Luckily enough, she had already been decked out in her ANBU gear, as she never went to those sort of meetings without her own small arsenal. Her own gear had become more well known in Kiri as that of one of the more dangerous ones, so it was a potential that he would know who she was by reputation alone, as she was the only one without any name assigned to her. Most people referenced the Angel mask, and she had been dubbed the Angel of the Mist, but that wasn't official.

Her gear was quite standard for her, the items she chose to don mostly being what she usually wore with her ANBU gear. Her best Tanto over her left shoulder, her Captain's Katana on her left hip. Syn's old Katana had replaced the twin tanto set she usually had, slung over her back on the opposite side as the Tanto. She still had all her weapons with her, but the majority were sealed into scrolls for the time being. Her basic weapons were an exception, with the explosive tags attached to a kunai each, both hidden just inside her half kimono. The rest of her items were spread throughout the pouches on her person.

It didn't take long at all to find him. Her enemy was a monstrous man that most Jounin would know better than to engage alone, but Nozomi wasn't most Jounin. Sure, he was terrifying, but so were Kiri's best. There was a reason their greatest export was Shinobi. When it came to top quality shinobi, they were a dime a dozen. Their best were better, and they had more. It was a foolish man, regardless how powerful, who attacked Kirigakure. It was even more foolish a person who took him on alone.

Preparing herself for the match, Nozomi's form drew closer to the ground, as she was going to have to engage him in one of her specialist stances. The Dragon's Dance was something she used in order to speed up her strikes, and with her clan's taijutsu, she'd be able to fight close ranged for a while. She was rushing in, her opponent about 30 meters away, her hands ready to release the catches on her wrist weights. A small smile formed behind her mask, but she was still quite anxious. Nobody could see that though, nor did she portray it. If anything, she exuded an aura of excitement.

Rather than what was probably expected, from a distance it was obvious that when it came to Enaka, not all monsters were ugly or outwardly intimidating in their appearance. What was obvious though, was that he looked nothing like a man of his age, though he was already nearing the mark of fifty years of age, he didn't look a day older than perhaps a man in his early thirties if not younger. Yet behind this appearance of a relatively youthful and actually quite handsome man, there was indeed a monstrous person, who if necessary, would level a city just to get what he desired.

He was surprised to feel the chakra of someone running away when he had managed to take down that last Anbu operative, scorning himself for losing his focus when he was bussy dealing with those annoying pests. Than again, it was to be expected that at least one of them would remain in the background just if things went awry. With a faint smile on his face, the man simply waited, knowing fully well that now he'd probably have to deal with some more...experienced shinobi. "No point in hiding, I would relish the idea of finally being able to properly loosen up a bit."

Taking off his ruined coat, the man revealed what he was wearing underneath; the uniform of a konoha anbu. It looked older, more like the fashion and style of the anbu decades ago, the armor having no shoulder guards and no protrusions to protect the hips and upper legs, this old model only protected the chest, torso and back, but provided excellent mobility compared to the newer anbu armors. He wore no weaponry, besides a pair of scalpels that he seemed to carry, the favored tool of combat for any of the Orochi line of his clan, even his niece had those scalpels as her most used means of combat. Yet, Enaka doubted he would even need to use scalpels to cut through his opponents, holding on to them only if anyone using weapons would try him on for size.

At long last, after waiting for quite a while at the shores of the island, he finally could see someone approaching, surprisingly... it was only one person, not a team of Anbu, not a team of jounin or worse, just one single shinobi rushing towards him. If anything he had to commend this girl for her bravery or perhaps just call it what it was; pure stupidity and misplaced arrogance to try and take him on alone without any sort of back up.

"Well, I didn't expect Kirigakure to understimate me by such a margin," The man chuckled while looking at Nozomi and trying to size her up, trying to figure out if she was even worth his time or not, but on the other hand he didn't really had a choice anyway, she'd have to do for his excercise.

Raising both his hands, with the palms upwards, Enaka smiled, while a thick mist came from the water behind him, envelopping him completely and starting to encroach upon the rest of the area around him, his voice sounding from within the mist. "Come on girl, show me how you'll deal with the likes of me."

To complete his preperation, his armor aided him in covering his presence, while he relied on his Anbu sensory to stay on top of his surroundings, even though his view was blocked just as much as whomever else got caught in the mist, he had his other senses to guide him and the advantage of having his clan's Snake blooded kekkei genkai was always a neat addition. The idea was simple, preparing a stage to fully utilize his vast arsenal of techniques and strategies to deal with this fresh opponent. "First lesson, never let your opponent gain the upperhand from the start...they really don't teach you kids anything these days, do they?"

Underestimate him? No, it wasn't an underestimation of his skill. Nozomi was the first to arrive purely because she wanted to test her luck against this man. There would be others arriving soon, and she wouldn't be able to test him fully in that case, so of course she needed to deal with this fast to see how she fared. His use of the mist confused the girl, as he should have known a Hunter-nin of any rank would have next to no issue with this form of the mist. Unless he was underestimating their abilities as well. It didn't matter much to her, if he wanted to underestimate her, it was fine. She'd use it to her advantage.

The mist wasn't as good as the mist that the Hunter-nin were trained to use, but it still did a decent enough job that at high levels, it was slightly effective. However, there was a fall off at some point where it ceased to really be useful, and Nozomi had reached that level. She didn't need to rely on her sight to track an opponent, and her chakra sensory abilities were noticeably lacking compared to other ANBU of her rank for one simple reason: She didn't require it. Her perception had been heightened to the point that she could see mostly through the mist, as she was sure Enaka could as well. At the least, only minor details were obscured from her, but that was minimal. Beyond that, her hearing was heightened as well. His movements would be able to be heard, the wind moving around his body. That was the benefit of fighting by the coast, there was always a breeze, and the sand had a crunch when people moved on it. His scent wasn't hidden by any means at the moment.

It seemed pointless for him to use it as anything other than a gauge of his opponent. She knew if she could still fight with little detriment in it, then it would be much the same for him. Still, while he did that, she took the time to drop her weights from her wrists and ankles. By the time the boost wore off and she was tired out, backup should be arriving, or have arrived already. "Take your own lessons to heart. Don't underestimate me." she said, and moved with speed to where she knew he was. The mist wasn't useful when coupled with her other senses, and she didn't rely on chakra sensory, so his ANBU armor's ability was as useless as hers was. Her hands were covered in the colorful liquid of the Dance of the Misty Petals technique of the Himitsu clan, and she'd resort to her basic taijutsu for now.

She knew Enaka was stronger than she was, so utilizing this style was smarter for her. Inflicting pain with every strike and counter, shredding muscles with even a defense, it would rely on him dodging her strikes and not punching into her own hands. This had been developed by her clan to directly counter the Hyuuga clan's Gentle Fist by stealing their style and adapting it for the petal blades. She had a few escape techniques if being close to him proved to be too dangerous for her, but she figured that for now, her skills were much more suited for close combat than the average Taijutsu practitioner. As she closed in on him, she would open up with a barrage of offense and counters. If he bothered to attack her, her own corresponding hand would go for a return strike to the side, to not only lacerate his hand, but to counter his strength by redirecting it to the side. The problem with force was that when it was directed one way, it became weak on the sides, and that's how the Hyuuga and Himitsu clans utilized the style they did.

The hidden mist technique, though pointless against foes of an adequate level, was nonetheless a perfect way to find out how good an opponent's senses were, especially for someone who was used in dealing with foreign ANBU shinobi in his olden days and the variety of dojutsu users he had tracked down, hunted and captured. However, the mist served a second purpose, it was a means of escape, a means of clouding what was going on from the outside world, for even if someone with keen senses and adequate perception would've come running to the scene, they'd had to be rather close to actually know what was going on, to truly see what laid beyond the veil of watery, gray mist.

"I don't underestimate you, my dear...I simply gauche your capabilities, your capacity of dealing with such minor inconveniences like this mist," Enaka's voice seemed smooth, almost as if he was not persay impressed, yet nonetheless delighted that this rather unexpected meeting would perhaps turn out to be exactly what he needed: a proper work out and a magnificently accurate way to determine the strength of Kirigakure's forces. There was nothing better to know those things than by facing off against someone who obviously seemed to be on a higher level than the average shinobi the village hidden in the mist possessed. It seemed that using his sensory skill would prove rather pointless as well, there were no surprises apparently, just one shinobi, one to deal with and not a dozen.

He looked straight at her, his lips curling into a faint, yet malicious smile when he noticed the aura accumulating around the shinobi's hands. he did not know what technique it was, what jutsu it was or what clan she hailed from, but he knew not to disregard it as some parlor trick, especially not given the fact that he only knew about the great clans of Kirigakure, after all even Enaka did not know everything...yet. For now, he simply did make the deduction that two things might happen: either this gathering of what seemed to be chakra in some sort of form around the kunoichi's hands would either result in her launching some sort of jutsu or would be applicated in a close combat variety which would need her to get up close.

He made a guess on the latter, spreading out his arms and letting out a soft chuckle followed by an audible grunt as his own hands got coated in a violent, jagged chakra, creating two short, yet undeniably powerful blades on his hands that betrayed his specialty: medical ninjutsu, which in itself was perhaps a dangerous specialty, but combined with years of experience and an astute affinity to taijutsu, his skills were honed yet that one step further than what was the usual norm. "Shall we dance?"

She came at him with an unexpected level of swiftness and speed, which explained the one thing he had seen her do before she had started to gather chakra around her hands. The damned kunoichi was using weights, a crude, yet highly effective way to train one's physical abilities and overall strength in terms of speed, but apparently not in terms of physical strength.

Crossing his arms in front of his chest and slightly lowering his head, Enaka decided to take the flurry of punches and stabs made by his opponent, tensing his muscles slightly whenever a hit would upon his body. This shinobi was strong and unbelievably fast, faster even than himself perhaps now that she had removed the weights that held her down, yet her punches, her jabs felt...lighter than he had expected, disregarding his armor and his incredible endurance gained through lengthy sessions of torturous training with his subordinate Hataro, he had still expected this female genius to hit harder.

Annoyed by the fact that he had to recalculate his strategy, Enaka let out a soft growl, as he suddenly let go of his defensive stance, swinging his hands aside, with the intend to force Nozomi to jump back to avoid the brutal power behind his own chakra scalpels, lest she wanted every muscle and tendon in her chest to be meticulously sliced apart by the violently swirling chakra of which the scalpels were made.

Deciding not to let up too much, the man dug his feet into the sand as he launched himself towards Nozomi, with one hand aimed straight towards her chest, while the other seemed to rest with the wrist upon his outstretched arm, providing protection to his face and allowing for a swift follow up when necessary. "Time to get a bit more serious, don't you think, my dear?."

Her initial strikes landed on him, blow after blow, as he chose to block her rather than dodge her. This worked out in the young Kunoichi's favor, as her true strength wasn't in pure power, but in the petal blades that landed on each strike. Granted, it seemed that her blows weren't all that effective, even seeming like they did less damage than they should have, something which gave her a start. His level of endurance was godly, even taking less damage than he probably should have from her Nintaijutsu. Still, that was something she could use to her advantage. Someone who could be that durable would have less need to dodge, and might choose to block the wrong attack. With proper planning, she might be able to take him out if the Taijutsu match continued.

The main issue she saw was his Chakra Scalpels. She had at one point had an urge to study medical jutsu, and knew that the technique was a strong one, something that could power through the clan's baseline technique of the Dance of Misty Petals. If it hit her hands, then she'd be on the defensive against that technique, and it would more than likely power through the meager defense it offered. Not only that, but it clued her in a little bit, if he had medical jutsu, then the early strikes she landed might not amount to much just yet. They didn't bother him so far it seemed, but if they got too bad, he might be able to just heal up and then she'd be back to square one. The information gathering stage was crucial in a fight, and he would be able to sit back and figure out all her tricks as she busted them out and heal up.

The turning point came though, and she was on the defensive against his monstrous strength. Any single strike that landed on her might spell the end of her, and her nerves were highly on edge. Everything faded out of her thoughts except for the fight at hand. Her focus tunnel visioned completely onto Enaka and their fight, forgetting about the ANBU that would be on the way, forgetting about her concern for Kaekio, forgetting her anger at Ayakashi, and everything else but the fight in the moment. He was fast too, nearly as fast as she was, but his strength far eclipsed what she could do. So she'd have to rely on her jutsu and dodging. Score hits and fall back. With speed close to matching hers, it would be hard fought, but she could possibly do it.

The blow came for her torso, and she had no choice but to leap back, as she couldn't deal with the windup it had behind it in the amount of time given, but the second her feet touched the ground, she continued to move backwards as if skating and her momentum continued, leaving a trail of petals lining the ground beneath her. Enaka had continued towards her as she'd expected, and she continually skated backwards and away from him and his outstretched hand, knowing she needed to counter the blade at least. It was more dangerous than she liked to admit, and she'd rather avoid it ever contacting her and she couldn't risk her own hands touching them. Luckily, she knew just how to do it.

"Want me to be serious then?" she said, the shimmering aura of the petals surrounding her hands pooling into her palms more intensely for the briefest of instances as his hand closed in towards her chest, his one arm blocking his face for any counter she might make, as well as to provide another angle of quick retaliation for himself, but she wouldn't let him do that. Taijutsu was her specialty, and he was playing her game here. She had to use that. There was still the feeling that he was underestimating her though, and because of that, she had an advantage on her side. He didn't know her techniques were developed for quick retaliation and had been developed for assassination with little notice. She had planned on using them to kill Sanosuke, but taking down Enaka wouldn't be against their use either.

The liquid like aura around her hands burst into petals, forming around her arms like a protective shield of ever spinning blades, and her arms crossed in front of her to block his strikes with the Chakra Scalpels. Her arms crossed in front of her had her palms facing towards him, and with the protection the petals offered from the scalpels, she didn't mind retaliating with more powerful hand blades of her own. A burst of petals issued form her palms as out of each palm a meter long chakra blade extended at rapid speeds towards him with little warning, aimed at the inner side of his shoulders, which currently had the entirety of one arm in the way. Her quick draw techniques were things that she considered crucial, as in close quarters with a skilled opponent, you wouldn't have time to utilize hand signs unless you were already superior in speed and ability.

Scratches, cuts and the rare occasional droplet of blood floating through the air mixed with the sweat of excitement and adrenaline coursing through one's veins. It was something he had not had in many years, the joy of battle, the pleasure of trading blows with a gifted shinobi. Years in konoha's prison had made him stiff, rusty and dull just like an executioner's blade, awaiting the day upon which it was yet again a tool of war rather than a tool for administration.

His eyes seemed to shimmer with a twinkle of joy, his lips curled into an eerily happy smile, this kunoichi was exactly what he needed, a worthy opponent, a shinobi with great potential and many ways to still grow much much more. Yes, this exhillerating moment, he wished it could last forever. However, he was neither a fool nor an idiot, he had patience, but was not allowed to become enamored with the very flow of this battle. This kunoichi, though peaking his interest, was still an obstacle for his plans and part of it at the same time. If he struck down someone with such potential, Kirigakure would surely notice and word would spread even more so than just by taking down a few mediocre anbu agents. This dance of petals and blood, this clash of power and presence was the ideal way to show the hidden village that times were changing. All he had to do was steer the fear into the direction he wanted it: the mizukage herself.

"Want me to be serious then?"

Enaka grinned, his immaculate teeth showing no decay, no age, just like the rest of his body it seemed that he was far more than a regular shinobi. Even now with her petal dance having ripped apart most of the sleeves of his jumpsuit, all she could see were her own inflicted wounds, her own cuts and scratches, yet not a single scar or scuff not made by the kunoichi could be discovered on those slender, yet toned arms, not a single mark of ever having had the displeasure of disfigurement. Either Enaka's medical ninjutsu was of an unnatural scale or he had never been a shinobi in the first place and the few records that were available on him, did state that the latter was absolutely not true.

"Yes, show me more...show me what that delightful body of yours can handle, before I crush you into the dust like all those before you and all that will follow," He noticed that she had managed to avoid getting hit by his chakra scalpel in quite a smooth and elegant fashion, almost as if, no not 'almost', she WAS gliding over the ground, as if she was skating on ice or in this case everything.

She managed to do the unthinkable though, she managed to surprise the monster before her, with her suddenly enlarged chakra blades racing towards the inner parts of his shoulders and with at least one of those undefended, he had to make a quick decision.

Blood splattered on the white sand of the beach beneath their feet, when in a swift motion, Enaka managed to slap aside one of Nozomi's blades with the chakra scalpel he used to defend his face, yet his right side shoulder was pierced through cleanly with one of chakra blades, yet rather than show any pain or discomfort, the older shinobi simply grinned, grunted and swiftly tensed the muscles in his shoulders while his chakra scalpels where forcefully dissipated, locking the chakra blade that had pierced his shoulder in place with the pressure of his muscles.

In a flash, his other arm bent slightly backwards, before stretching out his fingers in the form of a blade again, like how he had done with the chakra scalpel and just like how Nozomi's petal blades were formed, with a long, thin blade of wind, which sounded like the fluttering of a thousand butterflies appearing on his hand.

With a swift upward motion, he aimed the blade towards Nozomi's own right shoulder, to equalize the damage that was given, even if she had shielded her self, if it did not pass through the first time, he could simply strike her  a second time. The mistake of a close quarters specialist, was usually thinking that the opponent was not.

Still, she was pleased with herself, having caught him off guard and managed to pierce through his right shoulder with her Black Rose technique, another small victory that would bring her closer to taking down this beast of a man. Unfortunately for her though, he wasn't particularly fazed by the attack, as she'd suspected, and he didn't seem to mind tanking a hit from her. Coupled with his medical abilities, it must have been something he didn't seem to mind fighting through, and he had enough endurance to power through it without being slowed.

Her other blade having been swiped aside, the petals dancing around her arms had done their jobs, swarming and dissipating the chakra that flowed through his Chakra Scalpels. Both techniques cancelled out, and she was left with her Black Rose technique, but one of them was stuck, he seemed to be holding it in him through sheer muscle power and consequently kept her in melee range. Usually a stupid idea, unless she was right where he wanted her. Finding it impossible to pull the blade out, she only had one recourse to follow up with, and that was to cancel her own technique. It was a simple matter, but in failing to pull it out, she'd lost precious time, and felt the sting of his wind blade as it cut into her arm. Unlike Enaka, she couldn't just heal from these sorts of wounds.

The blade bit into her own shoulder, slicing through the flesh and into the bone of her arm, but not cutting clean through luckily. The wind around the blade sliced small cuts up her exposed arms, tearing through the fabric with ease. Her armor took a bit of a beating, but would withstand it rather easily. A wince of pain on her face, still hidden by the mask, most would have retreated and gotten to a distance at this point, but she was willing to test her luck a little further. She wasn't out of the fight yet. Tensing her body as if to jump backwards, she had every intention of doing so. Every instinct in anyone who knew body mechanics would know she was about to try and gain some distance. However, that wasn't what happened, and there was no warning given as to any change in her plan.

A sudden change in movement occurred as Nozomi's body instead barreled forward at Enaka, her left palm still facing towards his right shoulder, but her body a little lower now. Propelled by her chakra to instantly attain her top speed, and using the element of surprise from the sudden movement change when she'd made indication she was leaping away, she was sure she would at least make contact with him, and if either of her hands made a single amount of contact with him, a large buildup of Raiton chakra would course through it in an instant as well. She'd used this combination against Syn before, catching him completely off guard and destroying his kidney before he could even react, as Petal Propulsion's instant acceleration at top speeds was enough to catch anyone off, and the instant activation of Lightning Execution was impossible to predict as well.

Lightning Execution was a technique she had made explicitly for taking on Sanosuke, knowing that her best bet would be a one hit kill technique with no warning of her about to attack, but Enaka would have to do as well. The raiton burst was enough to pierce straight through and burn all surrounding tissue in a major way, and hopefully that would be enough to inhibit him some more until other help arrived. She wasn't sure she was in a position to end this fight by herself with the current state of her arm, but she wasn't helpless, nor was that arm useless as well. She would use the force of her Lightning Execution technique and the Petal Propulsion's added momentum to throw Enaka back, and push herself away from him as well, assuming it had connected. If she hadn't made contact with him and her palm though, she wouldn't have released the technique, choosing to keep it in reserves. It could only be applied through touch, and didn't have any visual cues, so it wouldn't be able to give itself away.

Still, the wind whipping around her and the Petal propulsion jutsu, which had left a flurry of petals behind her, was enough that her mask became dislodged from her face, falling to the ground, revealing the young Kunoichi's face. She was starting to tire out a little, a slight pant noticeable, and the pain still registered from her shoulder as a small wince on her face, although the adrenaline in her was keeping her going without noticing it too much. She may be able to match Enaka's speed, but her level of endurance was far behind, and though she could fight through her wounds, they did take their toll after a while, nor could she maintain her level of speed for much longer.

His breathing got heavier, even though he had managed to force this kunoichi into taking his counter attack upon her, she had managed to avoid any major damage to herself, preventing Enaka's own windblade from cutting completely through her shoulder as he had originally intended. There was no doubt about it, this was a talented opponent and someone worthy of having his full and outmost attention and perhaps even his respect.

She had managed to stab him, force him to rely on his ninjutsu rather than his medical ninjutsu and had even managed to not just outmaneuvre him, but actually outsmart him with cleverly used jutsu and an obvious affinity to close combat situations. It was true than, Kirigakure did indeed have superior shinobi to the bulk of Konoha's own forces, quite an interesting tidbit of knowledge that had now been proven to be a true statement. Disregarding the finest of Konoha's shinobi, it seemed that the shinobi of Kirigakure were a step ahead in easily a dozen ways, but if they were all like this kunoichi, it would be a risk worth taking. "Impressive, I must commend you for your efforts..."

Just as he wanted to continue, he noticed it, the kunoichi wasn't jumping back. She wasn't affraid, hardly fazed by what had transpired by now, she was actually barrelling at him. Letting out a grunt, the man started focusing his chakra, his eyes following the path that Nozomi's hands took, his entire body working in overdrive just to know what was happening and what was going to happen. "No...you wouldn't!"

Nozomi's hand connected with Enaka's chest, the lightning she had conjured breaking through his armor and apparently it had delivered quite a lot of damage, as Enaka had been pushed backwards, the chakra blade that had been stuck in his shoulder slicing out the same way it had entered. However, he did not fall down, though his chest was visibly wounded, with charred and seered flesh being exposed and even steam and smoke coming from the wound as water in his skin and flesh had simply evaporated due to the jutsu, he did NOT fall over.

The steam kept coming from the wound and Enaka at long last, after what seemed to be an eternity, yet it had been hardly a single second, seemed to fall fowards, his knees buckling as it looked like he was going to collapse, yet in that single moment, that blink of an eye, that very short instance it would take someone to fall over to the ground, suddenly all his muscles tensed and the wound on his chest was actually repairing itself, no doubt meaning that most of the damage inside him was also healing.

When the wound was almost healed, Enaka started to laugh, as now not only did the wound on his chest heal, but all the cuts and scratches on his arms and the wound made by Nozomi's earlier chakra blade closed up, healed and vanished, making it look like the man had never suffered any damage at all. The sand below his feet was shifting, blown aside as his chakra actually became visible to the naked eye without it having any release or nature imbued into it, a testament to the fact that he was far beyond the level of a regular shinobi, even worse: it showed he was not just a jounin like the few files available on him would state. Enaka was at the level of a kage and not just any kage, but the level of perhaps the strongest kage to have ever existed since the days of the last great shinobi war.

"There's a choice for you here," The man panted slightly, huffing as the energy, the chakra used for that last medical ninjutsu was still a great effort and had drained his reserves quite hard. "You can turn around, run away and live or I will show you the real difference between you and I."

It was a choice indeed, she could either try to continue the fight and still hope to win, perhaps at the expense of at least someone's future or she could run as he had proposed. It was now all into Nozomi's hands: her life and her future.

The sense of thrill came over Nozomi as she connected and her plan came into full fruition. She was doing much better than she could have hoped, and had managed to tag her opponent multiple times now. It was a true testament to Kirigakure's prowess and showed that any single invader would have a difficult time with their forces. Of course, he had already killed multiple ANBU, so he wasn't a pushover by any means, but he wasn't a god, that much was for sure. He could be touched. He could be hurt. And all that by a single opponent.

She had used the force of her attack to slide herself backwards, as well as propel Enaka away from her, and so there was a little bit of space now between the two of them. As she watched him struggle for a mere second to stay standing, she'd wondered if she'd managed to do the impossible and win, but it soon showed clear to her that he wasn't going to fall. Holding her wounded arm to her body, she watched in stunned silence as his body stitched back together, healing the wounds that he'd received up until that point. The only sign that he'd even been injured was the blood on the sand, some of which was hers, and the missing pieces of armor that had been blasted through.

He had verified her thoughts, that he was able to heal, and now she was at a disadvantage. Having sustained wounds of her own, and used up a fair amount of chakra, she was now facing a fully healed opponent, one which she had been struggling with and exerting herself against when she was at full strength. Now the only thing that would detriment him would be a small loss of his chakra reserves, which judging by his display, he still had plenty of. "Well, damn." she muttered, her eyes fluttering for a second. She never lost sight of him, but her stamina reserves were fairly low and she was bleeding quite a bit.

It was then, now that the roles were reversed, that he spoke clearly again, giving her a chance to leave. He issued the ultimatum that she run away, of stay and see the difference between the two of them. She knew it wasn't a hollow threat, and that he could back up that claim. Part of her would have reveled in the ability to flee, but she wasn't even sure he would let her. It could easily be a trap, to get her to turn her back, and to kill her with far less trouble. Fleeing from this fight at this point, it wasn't an option.

"I'm afraid I'll have to decline that offer, sir, kind as it is of you." she said. She knew she could push herself a little further before her reserves were depleted, and she still had some tricks up her sleeve, but her speed wasn't going to hold out much longer. She had maybe one of two more moves before she couldn't keep up with him any more, and perhaps even move at all.

Letting her arm go, she pulled out her tanto with her good arm and built up some chakra, sending it through the blade and launched a vortex of petals at Enaka, but even as she did so, her body appeared to buckle and the petals fell from the sky before they even reached him. It would have appeared as if she had run out of energy, or lost her concentration on her jutsu. Of course, she was tired, it wasn't that big of a stretch. She had to go full out from the start. "Damn." she muttered again. Help wouldn't be arriving for another minute or so. Still, a fire burned in her. She wasn't about to lose here, she wasn't quite done. He just needed to fall into her trap and it would be over.

Orochi Enaka

Orochi Enaka

As far as it looked, Enaka seemed to have this fight in the bag. While he had managed to recover at least outwardly completely, with his lingering jutsu restoring all that was beyond the naked eye to see, his opponent, though surprisingly strong and stubborn was perhaps now finally coming to the realization why he had once been hailed as a living legend when it came to the application of medical ninjutsu and thus somehow managed to come out of practically each fight without a scratch on him.

Meanwhile, she seemed to be struggling, catching her breathe, bleedding from various places and though relatively bloodied, there was no doubt Nozomi could pride herself for getting to the point where they were at. It wasn't every day that one could say that they had managed to keep it up for so long against someone who had been a hokage candidate for multiple times and in most aspects dwarfed all but perhaps one of the kage in sheer power and magnitude of chakra. In that respect even Enaka could do nothing but admire this willfull child, standing strong and unbroken before him.

"I am duly impressed, to see you standing there, stubbornly clinging to your pride and perhaps even your arrogance in the face of such might and magnitude that it would even make a kage tremble and kneel," The man calmly placed his hands together and clapped softly, with a soft and elegant smile on his face. How long had it been since he had actually devoted himself to a decent work out such as this, how long had it been that he had seen his own blood pouring out of wounds that had not been inflicted for the pursuit of knowledge or science?

He looked at Nozomi with great interest and even admiration for her skill and tenacity, yet when she created a vortex of petal shaped chakra, ready to be launched again, it stopped midway, falling to the ground like the dried leaves of trees in autumn. It was a sign of deprivation, fatigue and lack of reserves, the signal of the end. "Well than, you did not run, you did not tuck tail and hide like a coward, you actually did what so far none of your colleagues have done, you stood your ground. For that... I will let you live, even if it is just a little."

His hands moved together in an extremely fast repetition of seals, forming first a Yin, then a Snake and lastly a tiger seal, after which he softly breathed out for a second. Instantly, the ground shook as the air around him got extremely heavy. Brittle rocks suddenly seemed to collapse and be crushed under their own weight, the shells in the sand crumbled into particles of sillica and the sand seemed to be stomped so vastly under the pressure that it looked practically as smooth as concrete. "Hizamasuke...basically, Kneel!"

Yet, while everything around him seemed to be influenced by this sudden shift of air pressure, Enaka himself remained unperturbed by this extreme phenomena, making a Yin handseal with one hand, while cocking his right arm backwards and forming a fist with his right hand. As he did this, the air pressure seemed to even increase, with his chakra flaring up, his sickening and twisted chakra signature seemingly choking out not just the air, but sound as well, blanketing the surroundings with the insurmountable magnitude of his overwhelming power.

His feet dug into the sand beneath his feet, effortlessly crushing the compacted sand as he launched himself within the blink of an eye towards Nozomi, disregarding whatever she may had planned or may had prepared, only focusing on one simple thing: to end this fight in the most swift and clean possible way possible. However, despite this show of force he had prepared, Enaka actually decided to hold back, as to ensure that however little, however short it might be, Nozomi would still be alive at the end of this fight, for she could be his testament, his proof for all of kirgakure to see, that what was coming next, was a far greater threat than they had ever seen or heard of before.

As he rushed over the ground, the air splitting in front of him, his form invisible to the untrained eye and even for those of great caliber no more than a blur, Enaka halted right in front of Nozomi, letting his risidual motion propel his cocked arm forward, aiming with his fist towards her gut. "Fly away,
little petal."

He wasn't wrong, some kage would kneel and tremble before his might, but Nozomi wasn't a normal shinobi. She'd pushed herself above and beyond the normal limits of a jounin, and had quickly become a force to be reckoned with. She had developed techniques to allow for assassination of Kage level opponents, and in the middle of combat they still proved to be useful. She had proven her skill to herself, but at the same time, it wouldn't matter at all if she were to just die here. She'd exhausted some of his chakra supply, but he was still fairly strong, enough that almost anyone would have an issue with him.

She became uncertain of her strategy the moment that he started flipping through signs though. She knew something was coming for her that she might not be able to stop. That's when everything got heavy, and her body locked down, the tanto sinking heavily into the compacted sand. Her weights cracked the ground and sank into small craters. It was all she could do to keep from falling over. Her eyes struggled to stay level with Enaka, who told her to kneel. She had to admit, the gravity of the situation wasn't lost on her. There was only one thing she could do at this point, her Battousai wouldn't have enough power to launch off the ground on its own anymore.

As he readied himself for his attack, Nozomi poured out her chakra into all the petals that littered the ground, that she'd been setting up since her first attack. The battle field was covered with them, and that was the beauty of her attacks. Every one of her petal techniques set up the attack with another vantage, and would make it harder and harder to avoid as they gathered. And with Battousai already set up, the Thousand Flying Petals of Death technique allowed her to move those petals into attack range and keep it moving towards Enaka.

Even against the power of the gravity, they would still be able to move, her chakra able to fight against the sheer force. Her chakra signature locked onto his own, singling his out for the relentless attack of her technique, and it would send every petal she'd dropped towards the signature and continue to attack it. The main problem being that she had to maintain her focus on the technique at least in small part, as well as her small bubble of safety that existed a meter around her. His body seemed to disappear and reappear in front of her, the petals unable to enter into their vicinity. His fist launched forward and connected with her chest, and the world seemed to slow around her.

The bones in her body weren't able to withstand the force, and she could feel and hear them crack and break as she was lifted off her feet and launched backwards into the air, even against the force of the gravity. She wasn't even able to immediately register the pain from the blow until she'd landed a few meters away, the petals making way for her, but no longer locked onto Enaka's signature. As she landed on the ground with a thud, brought down early and hard by Hizamasuku, she briefly lost her concentration on all her techniques, the petals all having halted in the air started to fall to the ground harmlessly. She was out of tricks, and was out of the fight.

Struggling to stay conscious, Nozomi's head lifted slightly to bear down on Enaka's own face for a moment before dropping back to the ground. She couldn't move, and they both knew it. She'd lost. Her own reactions had only been a moment too slow to stop him, if she'd attacked a moment sooner, he would have gone through a wall of petals and eviscerated himself. He'd managed to slip into the safe zone before it closed around her, while there was still a small opening, and she hadn't been able to hold the technique after being hit to finish him. She was certain every bone in her body was broken.

Still, she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of having knocked her out. She wouldn't let herself pass out. She had to stay awake or she might not wake up again. The damage done was lethal enough, so her will power had to keep her alive for now, until someone arrived to help her. The ANBU could sustain her until she was hospitalized, assuming he was telling the truth, and would actually let her live, even if only at the edge of death.

After all was finally said and done, it seemed that controlling the output of his Jikoku no Ken was the smartest move, focusing solely on its speed and restraining its exponential power for the sake of keeping this one alive. It was not on a whim that he decided to do this, but to send a simple yet effective message to Kirigakure and of course its kage, the near legendary Aisu Ayakashi. If he managed to beat such a talented young shinobi such as this one to an inch of her life without even exerting his full power, it would no doubt act in two ways. It will lower the resolve of kirigakure as a whole, while it may most certainly strengthen the mizukage's resolve to see this little game to the end.

Dispelling his Hisamasuku technique was impossible, but the effects would surely subside with time, so Enaka calmed down his chakra, letting out a deep and long sigh as he walked leisurely towards the broken Nozomi, kneeling down next to her while placing a hand on her chest, with soft green chakra emanating from his hand. "It seems you are lucky, my dear. You will live, albeit the recovery won't be an easy task for you."

Standing up again, the man dusted himself off and looked towards the cliffs nearby, hearing the sounds of approaching shinobi, yet rather than making himself scarce as quickly as possible, Enaka simply waited until the approaching shinobi finally revealed themselves, jumping down from the cliffs and quickly coming closer to where Nozomi was laying.

There were five of them in total, accompanied by what looked like a person wearing farmer's clothes and a large straw hat that covered the person's face completely, while the other five were dressed in typical Kirigakure style battle armor and equipment. The stranger with the straw hat pulled a kunai out of its clothes and pointed with it at Nozomi, yet Enaka quickly raised his hand and smiled at the fallen shinobi; a cold and eerie smile. "You may thank yourself for being such a highly entertaining warm up. It's been a while since I had to draw out slightly more than half my power to beat someone,
you should be proud. Now than, I wish you a speedy recovery and perhaps we may yet again face eachother in battle...but beware I only let you live because you amused me, next time should we meet, I will use all the power at my disposal to show you what it means to face a true God of Shinobi."

With that being said, The five shinobi and the mysterious stranger vanished into thin air, while Enaka remained for just a while longer. "Hmm, the Himitsu clan was it? I think I'll enjoy collecting some samples." Letting out a chuckle, Enaka made a yin sign and vanished completely into thin air, showing that his background as a Konoha Anbu Captain was something people really had to be careful with.

Sero

Sero

S-rank
Sero had been attending to his other duties as a squad zero leader and taking in scouting reports from a couple of the stronger members set to patrol the borders. Days upon days of reports covering small occurrences that truly seemed of little threat. His grey eyes had been scanning pages with his assistant when one of the members knocked on the door to his office. Away from the manor and in the administration building. Sero would nod his head calmly to his assistant to open the door before rising from his desk. Standing there in grey robes with white trim along the sleeves and chest. A single katana and a wakizashi on his right hip. His dead grey eyes would glance over the man that entered in full ANBU gear. One of the elites of the village and designed for tracking signs that others would attempt to hide.

The man would salute him and Sero would bow his head in return. Only once Sero had lifted his head did the man step forward and present his written report to the assistant. The Assistant was also in anbu gear but not wearing a mask. They were designed as a squad to be at the ready whenever they were on duty. The only reason Sero wasn't wearing his armor was because he could call upon it at will. Still the man would speak of one particularly interesting point. There were signs that someone of considerably skill had attempted to hide the movements of an entire squad of trained individuals. They had almost fully succeeded if not for the specialist tracker. Still it was concerning that the man barely caught it. Sero was informed it was near the shore side and nodded again. Passing them and moving from the building. Deciding to investigate it himself.

What Sero was unaware of was that the time it took him to reach the shore side where Nozomi had fought took the length of the battle. Had he known she was fighting so desperately he might of quickened his pace. However as it was he had no idea and arrived nearby just as Enaka faded away. He could feel malice in the air and in the distance smell blood. The moment he arrived however Nozomi would be able to sense him as well. A dark being rising off to the side seemingly out of no where. The shadows stretched more and mist seemed to pour along the ground and blanket it. More and more as he approached she would feel a sensation like something terrible was coming. However she was likely used to feeling Sero. Still as he emerged from a tree line the mist seemed to curl around him lovingly. His frown forming on his face as grey eyes took her current state of being in before immediately darting all around. Searching for hints of hostiles still nearby. His right hand reaching down and his thumb shifting the katana blade ever so slightly out of the sheath. Speaking in a dull tone as he kept his senses pushed outwards.

"I had not thought there was someone who could do this to you of all people and not lose a part of their body in the process. Are they still nearby?"

Nozomi could sense people on the arrival, hearing them moving closer. Perhaps her tactics had work out Enaka enough that they could take him out from there. She let no emotion show on her face, although that was more because of the pain she was in, demanding a lot of her concentration. A moment of confusion arose in her eyes as the shinobi arriving didn't attack Enaka, but instead seemed to take heed of his orders. It dawned on her that they were his own pawns and we're wearing disguises.

After a few brief moments of talking, he left, along with the other shinobi. Around that same time, Sero showed up, arriving in usual fashion with his air of darkness. A smile still played on her lips even so. "No, I think they are gone. You should have seen him though. Well, before he healed himself. I almost had him too." She managed to grunt out, through slightly gritted teeth. "Although he seems to have some people under his command that dress in our uniform."

She wasn't convinced by Enaka's speech, about how he still had only used about half of his power and was a god among shinobi. Sure, he probably could have gone a lot further, but she had pushed him, had damaged him, and had fought evenly for a time. A god wouldn't have been touchable.

"He let me live. Said I amused him. I doubt he would still be around, other Anbu are on their way anyhow and I did manage to force him to use a rather substantial amount of chakra." She finished her small little debrief to allow Sero a moment to let down his guard. Of course, it was never fully lowered, but he really didn't need to worry that they were still around.

Sero was on edge. Of curses and ghosts he wasn't sure which had plagued this land now and that bothered him. A curse that tainted the ground as he did and yet much like himself was gone like a ghost in the wind. An opponent that replicated what it would be like for the village if he hadn't chosen loyalty. A monster that stood at the gateway between life and death. He had hurt his Nozomi and thus Sero wanted to hunt him. However there was another issue to address. Nozomi was bleeding on the ground and not doing well. Still she informed him that they were gone and he could relax. His senses were still on edge but he would believe her for the time being. If Nozomi had a claim that they had left her there it was likely warranted. Her senses rivaling his own. She was after all from his squad.

Still he would take a breath for a moment and take one last glance around with his dull grey eyes. Finally easing his sword fully back into the sheath as the shadows seemed to die down around them. He wasn't at piece but he was more comfortable now. The pressure around Nozomi easing a little as well. He would turn and in a step move over to stand next to her. Looking her over as he could smell her blood. He was no medic nin but he could tell the injuries were bothering her. He would shift his dead grey gaze to her eyes ads he waited for eye contact. The thought process behind them having their uniforms and what that meant set aside for now. Nozomi had to be the immediate priority. So he spoke as per usual with his dull tone.

"Are your injuries too severe to make it to the hospital? If so I can staunch the bleeding but it will not be a pleasant memory.

She took a moment to answer his question, contemplating whether the additional pain would be worth it, or if it would be better to just wait. She settled on the former, the bleeding needed to be staunched. "Go ahead and do whatever you need. I'm already in a bunch of pain, a little more won't hurt. Or, I guess it will, huh?" She joked lightly.

Her thoughts shifted to Sero, and how he was taking to this quite normally. She didn't expect emotion fron him of course, but still wondered what was going on in his head. She knew plenty of individuals in the ANBU and Hunter nin Corp that would relish the opportunity to take her place as one of the captains, and her death would create a vacancy, but Sero was a bit more loyal to Kiri than that. Still, she was rarely able to tell how important she was to him, and his face didn't give away really any concern. Of course, his offer to help her was fairly consistent with their comradery.

"Besides I've been burned before. Kaekio during the chuunin exams, remember?" She said, but then took it back almost immediately. "Ah, no, you probably wouldn't. We weren't exactly close, I wouldn't expect you to have been watching my matches. Best get on with it though, I can't exactly move so you won't have to worry about me flailing or anything."

The prospect of being burned again wasn't a fun one for the blonde, but she didn't really have much of a choice if she wanted to stay concsious. The blood draining from her would be enough that she wouldn't stay awake long enough to reach the hospital, and she knew staying awake til she could be healed increased her chance of survival due to her willpower alone.

Sero would recall the chunnin exams but not any of the matches but his own. He had been a monster of focus and in the arena was feared even by the crowd. He had been voted a favored candidate for the champion as he crushed his opponents with tactics and brutal attacks. His aura crushing the hopes of those that stood against him until they felt challenged to simply succeed. His last opponent had been not only a fellow shinobi of Kiri but a student of a man who had voiced death threats to him. He had little choice but to withdraw since it was a competition where killing was banned and his instincts had screamed to end the other boy. In the end Nozomi and Kaekio had moved to the other arena at the same time as his fight so he hadn't seen a hint of it. He had to make that judgement call or possibly face the consequences of at the very least blinding a member of his own village. He had since grown in self control but he knew his limitations. He knew that the day he found the man that did this his temper would flare and there would be no walking away.

He had wondered before if he were the villain as many had said as much. What he was about to do without remorse would suggest. He had always chosen to do what needed to be done without hesitation and only for a moment had he hesitated now. He looked to the side to spot a fallen tree. With his left hand he would lift it and point a finger at the log before a scorching flame would burst forth and engulf the log. Igniting it in red hot flames that Nozomi would be able to feel where she lay. With his right hand he would shift an open palm and water would seem to form in a stream that shot into the ground around the log to seperate it from the rest of the woods and make it a controlled blaze. With that done his right hand fell to his side and in his left mist formed before taking on the form of a Yari. Something he would stick the end of into the inferno and begin heating up the blade.

"You may feel worn to the bone now, but believe me when I say this will break you a hundred different ways. You will likely cry out and fight back. Do not be ashamed of this. I will overpower you and stop the bleeding if but for your benefit. "

Nozomi's mind moved towards the chuunin exams to Kaekio as well. She'd been with that girl since the moment they met, and had fallen quite hard for her. She wondered how the girl would have done in this fight, but doubted that Kaekio would be able to do quite as good as she had. For as long as she could remember, Kaekio had always had a little bit of an edge up in skill as far as it came to the two of them, and rarely ever ended up injured herself. The girl was a prodigy, and yet Nozomi had managed to surpass her. To push back Gin enough to earn her respect and honor. To take down strong Jounin without so much as a scratch. To push someone like Enaka to using more than half his power. But still, there were people out there like Enaka that made Kaekio and her efforts look weak.

It was humbling, really. To know that as far as she'd come, there was always someone stronger. Even as far as she knew, Sero would have fared quite a deal better, though in honesty, she'd really never seen him fight seriously. She watched as he heated up his blade in the fire he made, planning on using the hot metal to cauterize her wounds. Perhaps knowing it was coming wasn't necessarily a good thing, but in the end, she did trust Sero. They hadn't always been certain they were on the same side, but in the end, there was a certain amount of trust that they shared, and that was enough for her. He'd had plenty of opportunities to take her out if he wanted to, and he'd lowered his guard around her enough that she could have done the same. While he wasn't the type to show compassion, his actions always pointed her to believe that they were friends.

Closing her eyes for a moment, she let the bliss of rest wash over her, listening to the sound of the fire. "Before you do... a little important information. He's a powerful Medical user. Has people under his command who have infiltrated our ranks. Physically as strong as Ayakashi, but no match for her in open combat alone I'm sure. I'll get him though. Next time, he'll be the one lying on the ground." she vowed that she wouldn't end up in this position twice in a row. If she faced him again, she knew how to handle him. Unfortunately for her, he also would know her techniques. It wouldn't be the same, one way or another. "Unffortunately.... he managed to de-mask me. And he's seen most of my secret techniques. I'd been saving them for Sanosuke." she said, although they both knew she had planned on taking out Ayakashi if necessary too. It didn't need to be said. At this point, it didn't matter, she had no intention of doing it, her oaths were important to her.

Sero would rotate the blade slowly in the flames as he watched it burn around it from some oils left on it. He would spend a long time bringing the shine back to it. The wounds on his partner was singing the devils song but not his own. He would deny that tune its toll even as he continued his life of sin. Mothers cried and fathers died to his blade but he was choosing to save a life today. Perhaps even death would hesitate before approaching her with him there. The blade was just now beginning to glow red on the edges but he didn't want a partial burn that didn't staunch the bleeding. She served the village as he did and some might even blame the village for who they had become. However in that same breath most wouldn't challenge them due to what the village had molded them into. If he had just managed to get there a little sooner he might have managed to interject in the battle and cut down this threat with her help. He was too late for once but the hunt had only just begun. His life of sin was far from done and so was hers.

Still he would turn his head to study her as she spoke about the target that had fought her. He seemed to be at a frightening level of raw strength and a capable medic at that. Nozomi had challenged him into using some considerable amount of his power. The consideration that he was Ayakashi's equal was interesting. He would need to keep the guard around her to only those he knew and approved of. He knew men could be purchased loyalty wise but those who did not have a known identity would be easier to keep track of in this case. He knew the chakra signatures of his men and that was more difficult to replicate against Sero. However Nozomi was down for the count. At least during her recovery. Regretfully the burns would extend that out longer but were needed to stop her from going into a critical condition. Still he would nod and speak a moment. His concern on her being saved for the moment over preparations for what was apparently coming.

"I will deal with it when I get back to the village. For now we have you to concentrate on. Are you sure that you are prepared?"

"It's this, or I might not live. It doesn't matter if I'm prepared for it. Just do it." Her response was rather simple. There was really only one major wound that needed dealt with, the wounds ok her arm were only really scratches, nothing that had actually gone into her veins. The blade of air that had nearly removed her arm was the major issue.

Steeling herself away, she prepared for the pain without any further words. She had told all the most relevant information she had gathered from the fight, and anything further would come in a more detailed report if she managed to survive. There was going to be a lot of time in her recovery for a heavily detailed report.

Her main issue after that would probably be dealing with intensive boredom at the hospital. She didn't do well with them and really tried to avoid them, but it wasn't possible this time around. Even after she would be released from it, she knew her recovery to full strength would take some time, but at least she could have fun with the physical therapy.

Sero would listen as she spoke of the logic behind the choice. Choosing logic over fear was something he had always been able to respect. Even had she denied him once his prize of a distracted sensei being marked. He had sought once to cut his only living half relative in order to prove his might. Nozomi had shown capabilities he hadn't expected from another genin in stopping him. The other boy he couldn't even remember the face of as he had quit the squad the day he met Sero and fought him. However he had cut Nozomi then as she had simply offered no resistance. Perhaps she had thought he would hesitate and had since learned otherwise. Either way he had cut her as deep as he could and proceeded to fight the other boy in a rapidly escalating battle. It was no wonder the other had quit and yet Nozomi pressed on with him. How Ironic it was that he would now be taking a blade to her yet again.

With her acknowledgment of being ready he tossed her a stick to bite down on with his free hand. He knew nothing of pain but if there was still an enemy in the area, even had the fire not attracted them the scream would carry far further. He had no interest in guarding her while fighting multiple enemies. He was capable but far more so without something to protect. Still the spear head would be ready. He would lift it out of the hot coals as the blade itself still seemed to spout out flames. Burning oils from the blood seeped into the tiny little seems of the blade. He blew on it slight as it lit his face with a red glow and the last of the fire faded away. With that done he moved to her gripping the weapon close to the blade itself but far enough back not to get burned with his right hand. His left hand reaching out to shove Nozomi's shoulder to the ground and hold her down. With the blood loss she wouldn't be able to fight him off before he was done but the pain would give her some adrenaline to put up a fight. All the same he would take a breath and then pressed the metal into the wound. A sizzling sound seered out of the wound as smoke rose from burnt flesh and he held it there making sure to get every bit of exposed and bleeding flesh. Holding her down until the bleeding stopped and finally letting the weapon fade away into mist before using both hands to hold her down. Making sure she didn't thrash about and reopen it.

No more words were spoken between the two of them. Nozomi knew that the pain about to meet her would be quite a bit more than she was capable of handling right now, but at the same time, she couldn't imagine what was about to come. Her teeth clenched onto the stick she was handed, and she steeled herself away for the spear tip to cauterize her wound. He held her down, and Nozomi braced herself.

The first thing she noticed was the smell. The burnt flesh smelled terrible, but it was something she had smelled before. Her lightning execution technique always resulted in the same smell, to a lesser extent. But the smell wasn't what she focused on for very long. Almost immediately after, the pain set in, and Nozomi's teeth ground into the stick. Her body tensed up, and both her arms moved. The cauterizing arm moved up to grip Sero's own arm as hard as she could, which was quite a deal weaker than her usual level, but the other arm took a more interesting approach.

Almost on autopilot, her body attacked the source of the pain, the adrenaline killing the pain from her broken bones a bit, and her fist sailed towards Sero's face. It was purely reactionary, and her body convulsed a bit as well, trying to throw him off. But even still, the weapon would do it's job, and she would soon stop thrashing, her wound closed up for the time being.

It was about that time that the other ANBU started to arrive on scene. To Nozomi, it had felt like a long time, almost an eternity, but it had only been a total of a few minutes from the start of her combat with Enaka. The stunned silence was evident. Her face hadn't really been known, but the mask discarded a few meters away from them, and the outfit she was wearing told them full well who she was. And as a Hunter-nin captain, she had been known to be a rather brutal fighter. The battleground told a story of a fierce fight, her petals scattered everywhere, and yet she was the one on the ground.

Approached cautiously by an ANBU squad, they would address Sero and Nozomi. "Sir, we can take over from here and move her to the hospital." Nozomi would be too exhausted to actually answer, so once Sero acknowledged whether that was fine or not, they would take her up carefully, while others gathered her items from the field. If Sero refused, they would allow him to take her himself, but other ANBU had already arrived and started to canvas the area, trying to pick up residual chakra from Enaka to track him.

Sero would hold her down a moment as he began his assault on her wound with the burning weapon. Had either of them known medical this wouldn't have been an issue. However in order to ensure her survival he needed to staunch the bleeding. So he did with a burning hot spear head. It would only take a moment but in that moment he found himself experiencing some combat. Her grip on his arm wasn't so much felt as it was observed as slightly diminishing his ability to close the wound. However the blow aimed for his face was observed as a threat. His own shoulder rising up as his head tilted to knock the blow off his shoulder and over his head. For a split moment he considered using a jutsu to hold her in place but by then her struggles had ceased and the spear faded to mist. In the future he would need to paralyze them first he realized. Not everyone ignored pain as he did.

However even as he rose from her to collect himself the fire seemed to have lured individuals back to their location. Members of their own forces that recognized him. Or so they claimed. Those Already there were following protocol and attempting to establish tracking markers. However he was unsure of the ruse. If they were even mildly associated with the man from before. He couldn't trust that not a single one of them were. Instead he would step between them and her. His hand moving out to hover over her. Her Hunter nin gear shifted and molded into her usual attire to hide her identity from the hospital and any who might observe them passing. His grey eyes studied the hunter nin a moment before they nodded in understanding before joining the others. With that done Sero would scoop Nozomi up over his shoulder without much ceremony and carry her to the hospital. She wasn't bleeding any more so regardless of pain she would live. Besides she would have plenty of reports to review in the hospital.
