Maigo

Maigo found himself in the Land of Lightning itself, away from Kumogakure no Sato and geographically at the mid point of the village and the nearest coastline. He wasn't far off, but things were getting late into the afternoon and he'd been gone for some time, finding his way to a port to collect a delivery, a small wooden box containing a few objects for himself. Still, he needed the break from it all and found himself in that town of a few thousand people at most. More of a trading outpost than anything, it seemed a lot smaller than Maigo would imagine it for it's advertised population.

Walking through and stopping before a simple tea house, a few tables sat around outside under its wooden canopy and a long bar wrapping the width of the shop itself as well. Maigo entered in, pushing back a flap to it, next to it on one side was a shop selling various home goods and knick knacks that a person shouldn't ever need in their lifetime. And on the left side, was an inn that was two or three stories tall, no doubt the patrons would help keep the shop open with people looking for nearby food and drink. Maigo sat down to the left side of the bar, leaving a single stool to his left and many more empty ones to his right side.

His elbows down against the bar itself an older woman approached and spoke up with the years on her voice apparent and her body moving in short, choppy, and shaky motions. "Is there anything I can get for you sir? Our sake is nice and pairs very well with the fresh squid we get daily from the port just a few miles from here!" she sold the pitch well, probably well rehearsed all the same. It seemed she manned the front counter alone, maybe another person missing at the moment with a door leading to a back kitchen off to the left and behind her.

Maigo shook his head, "No, that's fine. Just some tea, whatever you would recommend to relax but not put me to sleep." he gave back, the dullness of his voice was worn with his fatigue. Really, all he wanted was to have a nap, get back to the village and that wouldn't be a problem. He pushed his sword out of the way and pulled it up through his belt before setting it to lean against the bar between his feet. The rest of his gear was fine, his pouches at the back of his waist and backpack already set down in front of his stool with a single leg through the strap for a bit of extra security.

"Do you like lemon? We can brew a nice lemon balm-"

"Yeah, that's fine." Maigo interrupted and nodded with a small smile, trying to make his gesture seem a little less than impatient. He glanced to the wall beside him and looked over the menu as he waited while his tea was prepared, the woman having simply nodded before strutting off to the back wall and playing with a variety of ingredients. Nothing that Maigo really cared to watch or think about as he waited, having his food and drink prepared in front of him was a concession at its best.

Still, after a few moment and hot water running, the woman returned with a small white porcelain cup and plate underneath it. Setting it in front of him and pushing it in his direction, Maigo placed his hands around it and spoke up, "Thanks." before cupping the drink in his hands and lifting it to blow the steam away.

"We have some lemon bread that would go great with that, if you'd like something to eat?"

Maigo quickly glanced back up, not even noticing that she was still in front of him, his own golden eyes trained on her as he mused to himself, chuckling a bit. "Yeah, that actually doesn't sound too bad..." he continued on as his features fell into a smile. The old woman smiled back and turned away to push open the kitchen door, Maigo brought the liquid to his lips and began to sip away. What he thought would have been a more thick and syrupy drink was quite smooth and went down easily with a low viscosity.

It was as relaxing as he'd hoped for, warm but not hot, he started to fade away into his own mind for a brief moment, totally unaware of the group of four out in the street that were nearly preparing to cause a commotion with a younger couple who'd bumped into them. Nor was he aware that the male of the couple would be thrown into the shop just behind him into a table before they would begin to attack him. A rather ruthless little grouping of some nearby gang, nothing more than citizens who knew how to throw a punch but for Maigo and his plan to relax then get back to the village, that would be quite the kink in his plan to get involved with something like that.

It was far too late for one to idly be sitting around in a room and lazing about, but it was also nearing that time where individuals began to prepare for the night that was soon to come. None of that, however, made a difference to Renier. Having long since come to terms with the fact that his vision was vastly different than that of normal individuals, for he didn’t see people, but rather knew of their presence and every living thing present within the nearby vicinity. The one major drawback of his own sight was the fact that lifeless structures weren’t available to his vision. Thus, when he had requested a room at this particular inn, he wished it to be on the lowest floor possible – which happened to be the second floor. Stairs weren’t a difficult task, especially since he had constantly been able to see others climb down those steps from the solace of his rented room. He knew exactly how many steps to take, how high each step happened to be and figuring out the ground floor was the easiest task – he just needed to see others for comparison.

After having spent a few good days of travel, nights even, travelling from his home village to that of Kumogakure no Sato, the young adult knew of one thing that was an issue. Getting back on the road and in the correct direction of Kumogakure no Sato – though the task could be easily done by asking someone and figuring out the direction from their body gestures. The issue always came with when people mentioned certain places, landmarks, as the focal points of their directions. How could one find such a thing when they couldn’t see it? There were numerous ways around it, like pointing out he was blind, though the vast majority of people would easily bring that in to question when Renier was eerily aware of their presence and movement, though it wasn’t always the case either.

Getting out of his bed and making his way to the door – being blind didn’t mean he was entirely unaware of his current environment that he had spent some good hours within – Renier was eager to get a quick meal in before he decided what he would do next. There were only two options for him to consider; travel throughout the night or stay here and rest and leave in the morning. Neither option was taking the lead over the other, for the Aurand wasn’t in a rush to get to the Hidden Village. His goal had been set on a quick meal and then deciding where to go from there after he satisfied his stomach.

Being on the main floor, the blind individual began to slowly make his way towards the bar; having already figured out the general path that would lead him there and avoid any physical obstacles in the way. Walking a tad bit slower than the average person, Renier was able to feel his way for any objects that may have possibly moved, thus he wouldn’t be entirely aware of. Slowly easing himself into a seat at the bar – somewhere near the middle of the entire structure from what he could gather of the bartenders movements – he waited until the presence behind the bar – an older woman – made their way near Renier’s vicinity. “I’ll just have a water for now.” The Aurand would debate his meal options for a few more minutes before he committed to a particular choice. His eyes, while unseeing, were on the woman as he spoke to her, before he turned his gaze back to the tabletop in front of him. A few seconds later a cold glass of water was plopped down in front of him.

He let out a sigh once he heard the commotion going on just outside the building. It was not his issue, nor his place, really, to intervene in any matter whatsoever. He’d simply sit in his place and react accordingly, should things escalate to a degree that intervention was necessary. Regardless, from what Renier could gather, there were others in the vicinity that could handle the matter that it didn’t require a blind man’s interference. Thus, Renier stood in his seat, not even turning in the direction of the commotion, though he knew almost all that was happening; before anything really happened. Then he saw a person being thrown in to the building and crashing into, what Renier assumed to be, a table. The people that had thrown the male in then would begin to attack the boy even further. Sighing, knowing that this would, ultimately, disrupt Renier’s mood and the atmosphere of the building for the next thirty minutes – after de-escalation – he figured it was best to rid the problem as soon as possible.

The old woman promptly split her attention to another customer that had arrived at the table but between his drink and his own thoughts he hadn't paid much attention. It wasn't until the woman arrived back with a plate of some lemon bread, yellow in color and seemingly very soft, that a man was sent through the air in a hallowed yell before crashing onto and shattering a small wooden table behind him. Maigo turned his head with the cup still at his lips, taking a sip. The woman behind the counter cursed herself and began to yell as she approached the side to walk around, "Oh no, no, no! What are you doing?" her raspy voice tried to call out towards them but fell on deaf and ignorant ears.

Maigo turned around to find the man on the table, surrounded by three other guys who were about to take their turns with various punches and kicks upon his body. In the background was a yelling and struggling girl being held back with her arms behind her by the fourth member of their little gang as he jeered in response and tugged back against her trying to intervene. Maigo blinked for a moment, the woman emerged from behind the counter and approached them, grabbing on the nearest members shoulder and arm as she yelled at them to leave and leave the poor man alone among other things.

It was unfortunate that he was too busy with his soon to be beating as when the old lady approached, she was shoved away as he rolled his shoulder and knocked to the ground, "Stay out of this old lady, if you know what's good for ya!" he jeered at his own comment and looked over his shoulder as she came crashing down in a wincing pain.

Maigo quickly set his tea cup down, seeing things get out of hand very quickly he sighed, each of the three taking turns in rotation with heavy handed strikes to the man's head or kicks to his ribcage and stomach. Laughing and taunting at him with each strike that befell him, Maigo stood up and began to walk towards them before being cut off. The same man that had knocked the old shopkeeper over pointed directly at him and yelled out, "You stay back too! Or else you'll end up just like this guy!" he snarled with a heavy and dull tone in his voice, laughing at the end of it.

Maigo sighed and reached to his thigh to grab a kunai from its holster, the small bit of rage was boiling up inside of him, and worst yet? They'd interrupted his short break before he would try to return to the village. If he would try, that was undecided yet, but intervening here? That much was certain.

Renier’s eyes glazed over the area where the three assaulters continued their attack upon the single, defenseless male that had been sent through a table. He was quickly able to distinguish the four beings from one another, such that he knew which of the four was innocent in this entire debacle and he could avoid harming entirely. With both arms calmly resting against his side, Renier slowly made his way towards the three, making sure they were able to notice his presence approaching them. Stopping just a few feet away, the blind martial artist coughed once before letting his dazed gaze settle on the one who seemed to be the initiator of this entire ordeals – the one who knocked over the old lady and had just yelled at another patron of the establishment to stay out of this mess.

Whomever was the leader of the three ceased his beating on the boy who wouldn’t be able to fight back in his current state and went on to look at the individual whom now stood before him. His two companions seemed eager to strike, as the shape of their bodies seemed eager to battle. “What do you want? To get beat up like this guy?” While Renier was not able to see the cocky grin form on the males face, he could easily discern it from his tone. The other two seemed to take their leader’s word at face value and began to approach Renier.

“Hn.” An audible word wasn’t needed, for Renier already knew what was coming and how he would need to react.

A fist from the one on Renier’s right seemed to fly straight for his jaw. It was easy to note that the man whom was attacking him had little to no training in hand-to-hand combat. It was more than likely that the first attacker simply learned to fight from being on the streets. An easy enough disadvantage for Renier to spot, even without having the sight of a normal individual. At the last second that Renier had available, he took a step back to watch the fist fly in front of his eyes and then he proceeded to quickly duck for the other companion had decided to attack at the same time. Without waiting a second to react, Renier would deliver a blow that would make the one who threw the first fist slightly reeling back, with an open palmed strike to his sternum. It wasn’t anything too dangerous, for his own strength was still growing, but it would be enough to send the man taking a couple of steps back. Lacking any further hesitation, he took the foot that stepped back and lightly lunged forward, taking a grasp of the man’s arm and swiftly elbowing him just below the armpit. That should hold them both off for a good second or two for Renier to make this situation come to a close within a few good seconds.

Maigo's hand hovered the hilt of his katana, having swiveled around quietly so that he could attack the group at random, a seeming justice or would it be more fun for Maigo to surprise them? Either justification could be easily argued but instead, the other patron of the bar had stepped forward and coughed for their attention. Maigo turned his head to get a better look of him, his hand still hovering as he didn't really look like much. His focus was sort of... generalized over the group, as if he was taking their measure in every way at once as a group. Their berating was met with apathy and then, the first punch was thrown. Maigo leaned forward thinking that he would have to save two people now, his right hand leaned back to his pouch to grab a few shuriken that he had brought along, getting a hold of four of them as he watched the ensuing fight begin.

The newcomer surprised him, Maigo hesitated in his attack as he watched him step back and duck under the first two hits and respond in kind, leaving them reeling from the first few hits back. It left the first two staggered and the third stepping in to attack, Maigo grinned with the shuriken in his hand and spread them out a ways in his fingers, giving them the space he would need for his little trick. Maigo stepped into his heels, knowing he only had a short space to close within the shop he burst forwards he took his arm and threw the shuriken to lightly plant themselves in various soft tissue of the man who had thrown the first punch and been knocked back. To find the tissue in his shoulder, between his bicep and tricep and two into the forearm that was facing Maigo, easily taking him by surprise and leaving him with a few nasty cuts to accompany the surprise.

Maigo would then jump forwards and leap through the few meters of the shop he had to cover for the third bandit. The one initially furthest away who hesitated to let his friends attack, this one would find as he closed in that Maigo would plant both his feet ever so ungracefully into his upper body and dropkick him through the shop and out into the street with the full force his body could provide. Maybe overkill, the man's arm that would absorb the shock would easily be fractured if not broken and he would tumble through the street to the other stall across if he didn't resist the blow.

Though, even if his attacks landed and were executed, Maigo would be spent recovering his balance and trying to land on his feet while the third and final bandit would still be in the hands of that stranger. Albeit, he seemed he could handle himself and finish off the third one, hopefully. If not, it would only be a few seconds for Maigo to recover and then find out from his not so ninja-esque looking comrade if he was actually a ninja. And if not, where he learned to fight with that amount of poise.
