Yanagi Yusuke

D-rank

Early morning in the Iwagakure living quarters and breakfast scents could be smelled almost anywhere. In a small apartment in the living quarters, a giant pile of scrolls was lying randomly on a bed. Due to the chirping of birds, the pile of scrolls began to move. Slowly, from amidst the scrolls containing history of clans and the culture of village; emerged a yawning Yusuke. Scratching his head, he squinted as he realized that the sun had come up. ”Darn, slept under a pile of scrolls again. This can’t be good for my back”, he thought as he stood from the bed and turned to look at the mess. It was early morning and his stomach was growling but before he could do anything, he needed to clean up the mess. So after washing up, he got to it because he had something more important to do later. He had volunteered once again for the exploration of the old Iwagakure district. And from his previous experience, he knew that he needed to depart early.

It took Yusuke an hour, he cleaned up the room, rolled up all the scrolls and placed them in the book shelf he had recently got himself. Thanks to his frequent visits to the library and the one time he helped the librarian, he could now get a few more books. He did help out with the books assortment and all in the library as a sort of payment but he didn’t mind. It was actually a bonus because he was the first to know if any shipment arrived containing new books. Finally, after rushing through breakfast; Yusuke departed, heading straight for the old Iwagakure district. This time however, he used the shortcut tunnel he had discovered last time. That allowed him to consume half the time he had consumed last time.

After travelling for an hour, Yusuke arrived at his location still an hour earlier than noon. ”This is good, I can explore more”, he said out loud as he sat down on a rock and took out his map. He hadn’t forgotten to bring along the equipment necessary to map out the area as part of the mission. After resting up for a minute, Yusuke began walking around looking for something he could add to his previous discovery. ”This is the old district, I wonder if there are artifacts or something like that around”, he thought as he spotted the entrance to yet another cave. Did he have a knack for finding caves?

Barely containing his urge to explore the newly found cave, he sat down and first began marking it out in a map. As it was part of the mission to mark out such finds, he wasn’t going to skip out any instruction of the mission. After carefully mapping the location, he put the equipment in the bag he had brought along and head into the cave. This cave too seemed endless and after walking for a little while, it began to get dark. This one too seemed unless; however, unlike his previous experience he just couldn’t see a light even after walking for hours. Undeterred by the darkness, Yusuke continued to head forward in the light of the lantern he had brought along. Until finally Yusuke came to a dead end. All that walk had been for nothing and now he had to go all the way back too.
Thank fully, he had brought along food and emergency supplies just in case. So Yusuke decided to stay there for a while, eat and rest before heading back. After resting for half an hour, he began his long way back towards the exit which happened to be the entrance as well. When Yusuke emerged from the cave, it was dark. His adventure had taken the entire day and he was seriously tired. Marking the cave as a dead end using the equipment he had brought along, he made his way back to the living quarters which too would take him an hour or more.
