Relaxing wasn’t exactly a concept he was too familiar with; at least in the sense where one had an excess amount of free time to loiter away, as the administration building currently refused him to take missions for at least the next few days. Seiryū had over the past few months been taking on numerous missions to occupy his time, spending more time beyond the village walls rather than within them. Over the period of a month, he completed roughly eight missions with most of them requiring him to be out for a couple days at a time. He didn’t feel overworked, but apparently that particular statement had been the reason why he was currently ineligible to take more for the next two weeks. Instead he was tasked with patrolling the village every other day, as a way to keep himself occupied.

No matter how he sliced it, he never really sat down too often to simply relax and take his mind off things; lingering issues that revolved around the past, present, and future. Today, he deemed, would be a day where he could at least spend it not doing much else except for keeping his mind off those particular issues in his life; and instead deal with letting his body and mind rest up before he would be out in the field once more. There was no point in dwelling on thoughts about his past, especially when they hadn’t shown up in over a decade in his life; why would he need to think of his father when the man clearly had never given him the light of day. He had the past thirteen years to reach some sort of conclusion, putting all of that behind him, yet none of that seemed to happen at all. Instead, those thoughts continued to float around in his mind, coming and going as they pleased. But for today and the remainder of this week, he wished to keep those thoughts far away.

Seeing as how he was currently off duty, Seiryū forewent wearing his hitai-ate (though he usually forewent that no matter the case) and carrying around the larger parts of his arsenal – his senbon and kunai should suffice if the need ever arose; though it had not thus far. Garbed in casual wear, his current goal was set to nothing, simply roaming around the village and hoping an idea struck that would help the following hours pass by; it was only an hour past noon and he had the rest of the day ahead of him.

Currently his eyes roamed about the various stalls lining the streets and stores that were a constant presence in the Grand Bazaar. He had no intention of purchasing anything for himself today, seeing as he just added a bit more to his arsenal of weapons and purchases of luxury/comfort had never really been something he allowed himself to partake in. Regardless of if he would be purchasing something or not, it never hurt to look at more wares and perhaps vaguely assess how he could expand his repertoire simply by gazing at the differently stylized weaponry that occupied the varying shops set up by Blacksmiths; both local and foreign. Now that he thought about it some more, while he stopped in front of a weapon’s shop, eyes glancing over a katana, he would eventually need a more comfortable method about carrying his weapons around. He already had an idea in mind for that.

The sharp ringing of metal upon metal would never be a sound Ashelia could sing a tune to. Her fights never lived up to the grace she tried to set for them, but so long as she burned through the objectives required of her, she wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Unfortunately, whenever she mistreated her weapons, her blade in particular, she always needed to go a few days without any missions or income, while the local blacksmith fixed it up for her, at a reasonable discount given she wasn’t really employed.

The Grand Bazaar was where most blacksmiths had their outlets, and hers was no exception. After having dropped off her banged up sword at the blacksmith’s shop, promising to return in a few days for it, she walked down the busy streets, passing through several weapon stores boasting impressive looking sets of weapons all commonly associated with Bukijutsu. Bows and arrows stared back at her, polished swords showed her a reflection of the tiara on her head, but despite this all the only sensation she truly felt was the emptiness by her side and the nakedness of the world on her unarmed person.

Rewind a few years and she may have been perfectly fine without the guard of a blade strapped to her waist. However, she was different than the meek, shy girl she was three years ago, the very same girl who was too afraid to run away from home because of consequences she wouldn’t have to deal with… No, that was a wrong train of thought. If she thought more about it, she hadn’t really changed much since then. She was still polite, she was still gracious, she still held her composure… The only thing she could say happened was that she had grown into someone who was more willing to stand her ground and fight.

As she walked past the stores, trying her best to ignore the many weapons put on display, she caught sight of a man  staring intently within the windows of a shop, enraptured by the beautiful and sleek katana that was on show. Curious as to why that particular katana caught his eye, she made her way up to him, though keeping a clear distance as well, just close enough to see for herself what made the katana so interesting, but not close enough to disturb him.

Try as she might, though, she was unable to see what the katana entailed that separated it from the others. “Can I ask if there’s anything about this katana that separates it from the rest?”

The surrounding background noises of people chattering amongst themselves, attempting to negotiate a fair price for their purchases, were picked up by his ears though ignored entirely for they weren’t of concern to him. Thousands of footsteps made their mark in this very area, people from various backgrounds and countries all with their own stories; yet the likelihood of Seiryū having an in-depth conversation with any one of them about their particular history was slim to none. It was a fact, one he didn’t care if it would happen or not, just a potential possibility of the thousands possible interactions one could have with another human being. Instead, it was much more likely for him to exchange pleasantries with an individual or a familiar face than anything else.

With the amount of noise filling the area, Seiryū was slightly taken off guard when a voice seemed to be directed at him, for the scenario he was currently placed in seemed to fit the parameters that the female voice had questioned openly. “Can I ask if there’s anything about this katana that separates it from the rest?” His eyes slowly took in the remains of the katana that had taken up his attention before drifting over to the person who had asked him the question; his head turning in the direction of the female that had asked him a question that he didn’t know how to answer exactly.

The thing about the katana that drew his attention was that it seemed to be the exact opposite to the katana he had attained from his recently acquired status as ANBU. Saif al Din was a sleek weapon, taking on a bright colour scheme, while the katana that had recently caught Seiryū’s attention happened to be black, with three of the same engravings on either side of the weapon. He honestly didn’t know why the blade caught his attention beyond just that, though it was certainly interesting enough that he debated purchasing the weapon – perhaps not today, but sometime in the future.

“Nothing too particular… at least from the other weapons on display. Somehow, it reminds me of another weapon, but other than that there isn’t much else I can say about it without actually wielding it. The engravings on it are unique, not something I’ve seen before. It’s almost as if they serve another purpose, though you can’t really tell from here.” Seiryū supplied while briefly assessing the woman who stood a fair distance away from him. She seemed to be… affluent if the tiara upon her head was anything to go by; somehow the detail reminding of his own past of being from a prestigious clan only to be outcast before he even was near hitting puberty. Ignoring that detail that sprung up in his mind, his mind quickly trekked back to the current topic at hand. He figured a person of her status would be looking for something other than weaponry, though he wasn’t sure how much he could help out – he hadn’t seen too many nobles in the span of his lifetime, much less interacted with them. “Are you looking for anything in particular or just browsing around? I’m sure I could help you find whatever it is you’re looking for.”

Ashelia contemplated his words and let her eyes roam to the katana, which seemed normal to her. He’d pointed out that the engravings on it made it unique though she couldn’t really say it seemed anything out of the ordinary to her. It had the same glinting metal that reflected off of Sunagakure’s hot, bright sun and the same handle wrapped in fine black leather to provide a steady firm grip to the user. Although, Ashelia couldn’t really critic the quality of the blade, having never used a katana. Her specialty wasn’t in traditional eastern swordsmanship, instead specialising instead in blades that came from a slightly different culture, likely due to her rebellion against tradition. They were often less of single blades attached on hilts, with more to describe and appreciate, at least to her.

“Are you looking for anything in particular or just browsing around? I’m sure I could help you find whatever it is you’re looking for,” he offered kindly.

“No, I’m just browsing,” she politely declined. “I saw you watching the katana and it… piqued my interest. I just dropped off my sword at the blacksmith’s. What brought you here?”

“No, I’m just browsing. I saw you watching the katana and it… piqued my interest. I just dropped off my sword at the blacksmith’s. What brought you here?” The question she asked him was something he couldn’t answer properly, at least not in the sense of having a legitimate reason to be browsing the Grand Bazaar of Sunagakure no Sato. What had brought Seiryū to this particular location had been the notion of not being able to do much else with his spare time; usually he would be occupied by missions, but now he was free to spend time however he pleased. With a lack of concrete personal connections, the amount of varying activities that Seiryū could participate in were limited to a degree, for going to a bar this early in the afternoon was out of the question and he had more than enough practice that it wasn’t necessary to head to the training grounds. Not unless he had a sparring partner that would be able to push him.

Taking a mental note of her having dropped off her weapon at the blacksmith, she had to be a shinobi of some sort, though it seemed to contradict his preconceived notion. His initial assumption led him to believe anything but that fact she could be a shinobi, but considering what he had seen over the course of his life and the pattern of thought that went with being a ninja, he knew that his initial conclusion could easily be proven wrong. Taking half a step back from the display and easily turn his body to facing the woman at a slight angle, he shoved his right hand in his pocket to keep it from fidgeting. It was something that happened to him more often than not when he had nothing particular to do, specifically on days like today where he was free to do what he wished to do. Seiryū blamed it on his restlessness.

With a slight smirk presenting itself, forming due to having nothing else to do, Seiryū would answer the woman’s inquiry. “Well, I’m more or less free for the next little while, so I have a lot of time to kill. Having nothing better to do today, I ended up here and figured I could look around and browse at everything and anything.” Seiryū provided. “I don’t suppose you know a better way to spend the day, seeing as how staring at a katana all day will bore me to death.” He intoned lightly, letting the question linger in the air. He hadn’t conversed with anyone who was a noble in his life, much less ever had the opportunity to interact with one; thus this particular situation being foreign to him on one end, yet normal for this was how hundreds of interactions started in the past – off a whim of curiosity.

The white-haired male took a step back from the glass display, instead standing so he faced Ashe at a more direct, but still not really direct, angle. His right hand was shoved into his pocket, and while Ashe caught the motion despite her otherwise still posture, she mentally waved it off as a habit of his rather than pry into it. It wasn’t good to pry, after all, though she had learned that she had to do more and more of it in her line of work, with many of her morals contradicting what was taught to her in her youth. Of course, her core morales still remained untouched, since it was them that she was acting upon, becoming a pseudo-ninja and all.

“Well, I’m more or less free for the next little while, so I have a lot of time to kill,” he said, though despite his offer Ashe doubted she would take him up on it. “Having nothing better to do today, I ended up here and figured I could look around and browse at everything and anything. I don’t suppose you know a better way to spend the day, seeing as how staring at a katana all day will bore me to death.”

If Ashe had been any better taught in the subtler nuances of social activity she may have picked up on the slight humour in his words, but having been brought up and moulded for the sole purpose of being married off for her family’s status had slighted that ability somewhat, almost likely permanently. As it happened, the only thing that Ashelia managed to pick up from his question were his free time and a suggestion for an activity that he could immerse himself into. Wracking her brain quickly for answers, Ashelia realised that she was unlikely to be able to provide him with something substantial to do, and so after a silent two seconds of thinking, during which her eyes would wander to the side subconsciously, she answered with her head slightly dipped.

“I’m sorry,” she apologised before raising her head, “But I can’t help you much there. I don’t spend a lot of my time around the village. I normally spend time resting in my apartment, though I read books to pass the hours. May I suggest that?”

“I’m sorry, but I can’t help you much there. I don’t spend a lot of my time around the village.” So it seemed to Seiryū that this woman wasn’t a resident of the village or at the very least familiar with the locations of Sunagakure no Sato. “I normally spend time resting in my apartment, though I read books to pass the hours. May I suggest that?” To the naked ear, the notion seemed to resonate that Seiryū’s attempt at humour had completely failed and the woman had simply answered him with blunt honesty in how she would spend her free time to allow time to flow faster. It certainly seemed that way for there was no returning reply that related to the humour Seiryū had utilized. There were only two logical conclusions he could reach at in this moment as to why it was the case; either she wasn’t in a joking mood or wasn’t able to identify it as easily – his ultimate conclusion was the former rather than the later, for he couldn’t exactly picture someone living without a sense of humour.

Shaking his head in the slightest, such that it was near imperceptible, Seiryū’s eyes continued to watch the woman while still taking in the scenery of the bazaar behind her. Seiryū had been to the Grand Bazaar numerous times before, always for the same few reasons of purchasing weapons or simply browsing them like he had done so before the woman had begun talking to him. Not minding the interruption, for it provided him someone to speak to, even if it could last briefly, Seiryū nodded to her reply. He never had been much of a reader, never for recreational purposes. The time simply had never arrived for Seiryū to delve deeply in to the realms crafted by the contents of the book. Maybe he could take it up for the free time he currently had available, but once his current recess from missions came to a halt, he doubted he’d be able to find the time to pick one up. Perhaps he should simply stick to taking naps and training.

“Reading books…” The ANBU repeated to himself, still mulling over the concept of reading a book to pass the time. It would surely help let time flow by, yet by the same branch he couldn’t exactly guarantee that he would be entertained or enjoy a book to read. Considering he hadn’t read a book in ages nor was vaguely aware of what one would consider a good read, Seiryū had no idea where he could potentially start when taking the route proposed to him by the noblewoman. “It’s certainly a possibility… though I honestly have no clue where I could start with that. Never had the time before to pick up a book and just… read. So, while interesting, I have no idea where to begin with or what to read.”
