D-rank
A giant scorpion. Well, this mission was going to be a bit different than the previous ones wasn’t it?  Where is the logic in jumping from pet finding and library organising, all the fun D rank stuff, to finding and killing a giant scorpion? This was going to be a hassle. Doesn’t help that I haven’t got a weapon yet… thought Chiaki, taking a kunai out from their leg strap and spinning it around, ready to get on with it. They leapt to a nearby roof, so as to get a good vantage point to see from as well as a height advantage to start the conflict. Now to go eliminate the target. Ooo, now that was a chilling thought. Their first kill. The clan would be proud, not that Chiaki cared. They just want a nice bo-staff to make all that stick wielding practise worth it.

After a couple minutes of running, Chiaki found the target. Not that it’d be hard to find a giant, rampaging scorpion. That wasn’t rampaging right now. But it was there, and that’s the part that counts for the sake of money. And doing the mission. But mostly the money. Activating the Onigan, Chiaki began summoning the Eye of the Mind, a smaller version of the Onigan forming in their hand from the familiar black and red blobs. With a smile, they sent off the eye towards the scorpion, sending it behind the scorpion to get a safe look at things before engaging. The most notable thing of course, is the damage. The house looks more like a ruin than a house. It’s a good thing it’s on the edge of the village, otherwise this scorpion could be more of a problem to everyone. Not that they didn’t feel bad for the people whose house got wrecked, it could just be a bit worse. A bit of optimism never hurt, probably.

Having discerned the location and the surroundings the lovely fight would take part in, Chiaki nodded, sending the eye into the back of the scorpion. This only caused the eye to dissipate, but the impact clearly got the attention of the scorpion, causing it to turn around. Waiting for it to completely turn around, Chiaki leapt down, kunai in hand, aiming to sever the tail. Sadly for Chiaki, they aren’t wonderfully good with a kunai, nor did they have the strength to completely sever a tail as thick as it was. A large line of blue showing from their efforts however, as the insects blood began to flow, although not enough to consider it a potentially fatal wound. A large shriek however, does give a sign that the scorpion noticed, and at the very least was inconvenienced.

The scorpion turns around, much to the dismay of Chiaki, swinging one of its claws at the genin. Just barely jumping out of the way, Chiaki stumbles backwards, forming a few hand signs with their left hand whilst trying to rebalance themselves with their right. Having finished the seals, more black and red orbs drop from their eyes, forming into the rather familiar shape of the Onigan harpy, the first thing Chiaki ever summoned. Unfortunately, they did not summon it soon enough, and the Scorpion smacked Chiaki as they retreated, sending them flying backwards. While the harpy continued to form, it did not do so fast enough to do its effect immediately. Smacking against a nearby wall with a thud, Chiaki clutched at their stomach, groaning quietly. This thing hits hard, so, note to self, avoid getting hit. Although that’s generally ninja rule number one anyways.

Looking to where they were before being hit, Chiaki smiled. The harpy was formed, and it seemed the scorpion was too busy focusing on Chiaki to care or notice. The situation was looking up. Chiaki put the kunai in their hand away, and proceeded to take out the three shuriken they had. Probably should have gone in with a plan first, but it’s good to get mistakes out of the way when you’re a rookie, right? With a goal in mind, Chiaki set to work. They threw the first shuriken, aiming where the kunai cut earlier. The bladed star span in the air before slicing just above the intended target. Close enough to cause another shriek from the scorpion as it ran towards Chiaki in pain. Mockingly giving the creature a thumbs up, Chiaki threw the next two shuriken at the same time, hitting directly above the eyes of the scorpion, getting stuck in the skin, although not far.

The scorpion reached them, its left claw barrelling down upon the genin. Or, it was the genin. Without moving, Chiaki was replaced with the stationary form of the harpy, who took the hit of the angered insect. Chiaki meanwhile, didn’t even look back to the creature, instead keeping an eye on it through the eyes of the harpy itself whilst they also searched among the wreckage. When moving the eye around, they caught a glance of it. Surely it would make the job a lot easier… Aha! The picked up a rather thin, long pipe from the ruins. It was terribly balanced, and not a super strong sturdy metal, but it’d do. They gave the pipe a few practise swings, the harpy being impaled by the tail of the scorpion before returning to the realm of the Onigan, dissipating into nothingness.

They went to step forward, however stopped for a moment, to at least get a bit of their breath back before finishing the fight. The scorpion turned to face them, and upon seeing it, the ninja smiled. The shuriken were still in it, perfect. Chiaki began moulding chakra in their improvised bo-staff, the scorpion rushing towards them with clear intent to kill. Waiting for it to get within range of the pipe, they quickly span the weapon around, knocking the scorpion back slightly. Without hesitating, Chiaki quickly moulded wind chakra into the tip of the weapon, thrusting forward at one of the shuriken, sending the shuriken flying through the scorpion, barely breaching through one end to the other. A bead of sweat drips from their forehead, and they look up at themselves, sighing. I’m not used to using this many techniques. I should train more they thought, frowning at their own exhaustion. They stayed, ready to resume attacking in case the creature somehow survived a shuriken through the brain, but fortunately, it was done. Gently setting the pipe back down among the destroyed building, Chiaki walked over to the body of the scorpion.

First, they plucked the two shuriken that were lodged in the scorpion out, returning them to the satchel they came from. The next step, was getting the one that came out from the back of its head. Stepping onto the scorpions back, Chiaki picked up the incredibly bloody shuriken with two fingers, grimacing at the appearance. Quickly wiping it off on the top of the scorpions head, they then put it with the others. They go to stretch out, but then are quickly reminded of their previous error, wincing in pain at the large, deep bruise the scorpion previously inflicted. Oh, how worth it the bo-staff was going to be. Jobs like that would be a breeze easier. They groaned audibly, a few nearby house owners watching as they return to their homes. You’re welcome for things being safer.
