Seiryū

Seiryū

D-rank
He knew the moment his eye opened today that the day would be a start of a new adventure, a new chapter of sorts in the book of his life. Three days previous he had been given word he would be taking on a squad in the near future with the contact information and names of the individuals who were listed to be on the squad he would be leading. Most other individuals would seek out further information on the people they would be leading – teaching beyond the academy’s education – though Seiryū had no desire to seek out those particular details. Taking up the mindset of seeing things for himself as far as others were concerned and that being far more beneficial to learning what he would be working with, Seiryū forewent finding out the specifics of the squad members he would be leading in the near future.

Thus the first order of business for Seiryū to conduct was to begin with meeting the three selected members of his squad – officially deemed Squad 2. Today, after two days of idly occupying himself with other business, finally having gotten his ANBU issued weapon, Seiryū had deemed it necessary for a meeting to take place between himself and the three individuals who would make up his squad. He had just finished writing out the third letter that he would be sending out soon enough. The only differences between the three written documents were minor differences in his hand-written letters and the name it was addressed to.

______ ______,

Meeting Cactus. 1100 Hours.
Squad 2.
Signed,
Imada Seiryū

That letter had been sent out at eight in the morning by a single genin who was tasked with finding the individuals at their home location; elsewise they would have to seek out the individual themselves. He had made sure that they wouldn’t be occupied by missions and most individuals would likely be preparing for the day at that particular hour in the day. Seiryū didn’t provide unnecessary details in the letter he had written, figuring that today would be an initial greeting, getting familiar with the squad members and allowing them to connect with one another and be comfortable with the other three people that composed Squad 2.

Having sent out the letters at eight and the time on the clock now showing ten, Seiryū began to prepare the few things he would be bringing along with him to the Meeting Cactus. He didn’t have to come armed to the teeth, but being prepared for any situation still called for him to at least carry some of his arsenal with him. Clad in a white long-sleeve shirt that neatly hugged his torso, khakis and black boots, Seiryū’s only major weapon of choice to carry with him was his newly acquired katana, Saif al Din which remained sheathed and resting along the outside of his left thigh. His bow, arrows, and Crota blades would remain at home, safely hidden away – along with his ANBU gear – and highly unlikely to be found should his apartment ever be broken in to – it hadn’t and it likely would remain that way for the foreseeable future. Hair messily combed back, Seiryū stuffed the kunai and senbon within his pockets, along with his wallet should he not return directly home and found himself hungry after the meeting of Squad 2.

Leaving his apartment and shutting the door behind him, locking it, Seiryū began to make his way out his apartment building. Knowing that the time was currently 10:20 and he had nowhere else to currently be, Seiryū would take his time heading towards the Meeting Cactus. He doubted they would arrive before he would, as Seiryū would arrive at the Meeting Cactus roughly around 10:45, as he would pick up his leisurely pace once he reached the gates of the village.

For as long as there had been civilization, there had also been brotherhood. Grouping together was the way humanity kept itself strong. It was the way humans were able to remain at the top of the food chain. The world of shinobi and organized villages worked no differently. For hundreds of years shinobi had been organized into tightly knit squads headed by a high ranking leader. For the benefit of the village as a whole and all involved, the leader or 'sensei' would teach and train the future generations. Futoshi had taken the step forward in his career as a shinobi by applying with the administrative staff for a squad position.

It was by another genin that a letter was delivered to Futoshi early in the morning. He climbed out of bed and read it while drinking a small cup of espresso and frying himself some eggs and sausage. Breakfast was a very important meal for someone who was in the process of improving the physical condition of his body. He would finish eating and the begin the fairly quick process of getting ready at around 10:00 am. Dressed in standard attire for him, white, collared, button-up shirt left unbuttoned with a very light white t-shirt beneath it. He wore khaki shorts and open toed sandals for quick removal. His bag contained his Shuriken and Kunai, essential tools to a shinobi but not his go to weaponry. He then wrapped his fists with boxing tape, tied his headband on and slipped quickly out of the door. He wouldn't be late for something like this, it wasn't in his nature.

Imada Seiryu. Just what kind of person was he? Having very formal letters like that sent out must have supplied some clue to the kind of person he was. Methodical, perhaps. An orderly person, maybe. It was no expert guess. Many shinobi at higher ranks were instilled with a need for tidiness. Readiness. Then again, Futoshi was merely pondering to make the journey to the Meeting Cactus go just a little more quickly. Judging by the sun, and what he knew already from the academy, he was arriving five minutes before 1100 hours. The man standing next to the cactus in waiting had apparently arrived just a bit before Futoshi. He was wearing black boots, khaki pants, and a white, long sleeved shirt. His silvery hair was combed back. With no pretense, Futoshi would have no way of knowing who this was. He also had no knowledge of who his squad mates would be.

Futoshi would arrive within vocal range before speaking, he felt like a true greenhorn with the way his headband was tightly hugging his forehead.

"Matsunaga Futoshi. I am here for Squad 2."

He kept it very simple and waited for the others, as well as a response.

A knock at the door. That was what woke Chiaki up. A knock at the door of their two room apartment, provided for them by the Fukitsuna. Groggily, they open said door, rubbing their left eye as they stifle a yawn. The genin carrier appeared to be rather confused and amused by the ninja’s choice of sleeping wear, as they found the one to answer the door was wearing a black and red bunny onesie. Chiaki shrugged, waiting for the other genin to state their business. Which, the genin did when they arrived, however, they were covering their mouth at the time, so it wasn’t something that Chiaki could understand. What they could understand, however, was the genin getting annoyed and thrusting a piece of paper unceremoniously into the rather confused hands of the Fukitsuna. They waved off the stranger, shutting the door as soon as they were gone, and then took the letter to their bed, sitting on the edge of it to get a comfier position for reading. As it turns out, this was a waste of time; the letter was rather short and brief. The meeting cactus? Squad 2? Wait… Squad? They sat up, putting the paper to their side. It appears today wasn’t just going to be an ordinary day. With a yawn and a stretch, they got up, preparing to get ready; the meeting cactus was a bit far away, so it’d take a while to get there, and Chiaki did not feel like running, at least not this early in the morning.

The first thing they did was quickly make some breakfast. It was incredibly plain, but you can’t expect much without cooking facilities, or from someone who’s still young. They eat their food at a moderate pace, deciding it was better to not rush and end up unwell for their first day. After this, it was the logical step of getting washed. They then began wearing their usual garments. Right arm covered by a long sleeve that covers all of the arm and the hand, left arm with a short sleeve, and both sleeves a deep sandy beige. They wore deep crimson training tights, and covering the right leg was a long, sleeve like flap of cloth, in the same colours as their top. Above their top, a grey vest, that shares similar colours to the grey boots they wear. This was generally their usual attire, although they have been known to sometimes wear different. Clothing prepared, they got their hair ready by taking their hands, putting them to their head, and messing up their hair as much as possible. Really smooth. They got their satchel, and then opened their door rather nonchalantly. It was a slow process, but they were ready.

They began the long walk to the location at about 0945. That left about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to the assigned location, one that they had honestly made a favourite place to be anyways; the cactus was one of the most aesthetically pleasing things in the area. As they walked, their thoughts occupied the time. Imada Seiryu… The name sounded familiar, although how, Chiaki could not know. And on top of that, what sorts of individuals would they be working with from now on? With a sigh, they cross their fingers, hoping it was if nothing else, understanding people. The little speculations truly did help pass the time, and before they knew it, they were at the cactus. Although to anyone actually paying attention, they were late, showing up at 1105. The first thing they notice was the appearance of one of the people there, a face they recognised. With a wave, Chiaki nodded to Futoshi, before turning to look at who they assumed was the one who sent the letter.
Fukitsuna Chiaki” they mutter, voice barely audible above a whisper. With a yawn, they rub their eyes once again. Today was looking to be a good day, although as usual, they simply looked carefree and lazy.

A letter was delivered to Sun's household early in the morning. Her parents accepted it, thanked the errand boy and asked no further questions. They didn't plan to peek in the letters content's since it was addressed for Sun. But Sun was sleeping late today. She didn't have any missions to do or go help at the hospital. She had a free day. She didn't wake up until 10am. When she finally got up, parents immediately forced the letter and a bowl of porridge in her hands. Of course the girl was more eager to see the letter first. She opened it and read it once. She was too sleepy to understand what was what. After the second attempt her eyes widened quite a bit:"Oh right, I signed up for second squad. Mom, dad," she called her parents to tell them the news, "Do you know of this Seiryū guy? Apparently he will be my sensei," though it was not confirmed yet. Maybe he was just that errand boy who signed the letter for delivery and was in fact no shinobi in the first place.

Being late was very rude of course. Her parents already started scolding her, because it was a long way to get to the meeting cactus. With one hand Sun was eating the porridge with wild fruit jam and with the other hand she dressed herself. This was a special occasion, therefore she avoided the girly fashion and instead wore her kunoichi outfit - grey pants, grey shirt with long sleeves and a brown leather hardened jacket. Of course she also tied the Suna's headband around her head.

Usually Sun also checks her leather bag contents before leaving the house, but she was lacking the time and surely there must have been everything. So she just took the bag across her shoulder and run off. Her parents had heard of Seiryū. He was one of their peers - an Anbu. Thought they didn't tell her that, but nevertheless, they were sure that Sun will only benefit by studying under him.

Sun had less than half an hour to get to the meeting cactus. It was definitely bad manners to be late, so instead of just picking up pace she started running. The bag on her shoulder was impractical, it was hitting her hip and often almost falling off. Rushing past the village's gate she also remembered that she left the letter on table in her room. Hopefully it didn't serve the purpose of a ticket to get inside the squad.

She arrived at the meeting cactus at about 11:15. She was late a big deal and noticed three people already waiting. Obviously she was the last, because squads only consisted of sensei and 3 shinobi. First she noticed Futoshi:"Oh hey, Futoshi! You are in squad 2 too?" she said and waved before even introducing herself or paying respect to the other shinobi or her sensei. Next she looked at the other shinobi - her (or his) crimson pants and grey vest resembled something Sun would like. "Nice vest! Where did you get it?" Sun was interested knowing where she could buy something like it and she asked it with a smile on her face.

Last she finally looked at the man standing by the cactus. She had no way of telling if it was that Seiryū guy or anyone else. But she finally was able to focus her attention towards him. By complementing the other girl's (or boy's) vest, she felt like she also owed her sensei some kind of admiration:"Your silver hair looks awesome!" it didn't honestly, but she still exclaimed and made her face go 'wooow'. This guy was probably too busy to get on with the modern fashion. "I'm Sun by the way! Sun from Bulate clan, you've heard of us, right?" Sun inquired to the sensei to make sure if he has heard of the best medical-nin of Sunagakure. This squad-thing was the first step to fulfilling her dream and go to the front lines not to take life, but save life instead.

Seiryū

Seiryū

D-rank
His eyes skipped over the few people that ventured towards and away from the Meeting Cactus, though his gaze never lingered for he was solely here for one purpose and that was that. The Meeting Cactus did bring about certain memories, memories he was fond of, yet the same one’s brought out a different emotion, one he didn’t want to identify or classify at the current time. Instead, he let his gaze roam from person to person; trying to identify which individuals he would be meeting more often than he would have under normal, non-squad related circumstances.

The first of the three had arrived five minutes prior to the time Seiryū had set for this meeting to take place. Squad member number one was a male, seemingly only a couple of years younger than himself. Once the male introduced himself as Matsunaga Futoshi, Seiryū put the name to the face for he would need it in the future. “We’ll wait for the rest.” He would supply calmly, letting his statement linger before lowering his eyes to avoid the sunlight for a while. He could deal with the silence, though he was intrigued on how long it would last and how long it would take for the remaining two individuals would arrive.

Five minutes could be consider cutting it close when it was a scenario where time was of the utmost importance, especially when one was on a mission. Thus, once the time reached 10:59, he knew both the remaining two would be late. It wasn’t like this was a mission and it was their first meeting, but it certainly let a certain train of thought settle in his mind. If they couldn’t arrive here by the scheduled time, then he would need to make them realize that arriving on time was the difference between success and failure – even if it didn’t apply to today’s current predicament.

The second arrived five minutes past the mark, not too late, but still late nonetheless. Being five minutes late was workable, though it definitely left a negative association with the person who arrived late; though it wouldn’t be the person who arrived last today. This particular individual went by the name of Fukitsuna Chiaki, thus adding another face to the people Seiryū would need to identify. Annoyance was difficult to spot upon Seiryū’s features, for he was easily able to mask it, but there were slight feelings of irritation on his end. The yawn that followed the introduction seemed to imply the individual had recently woken up or at least seemed to be bored by what exactly was going on here.

The last of the three seemed to arrive fifteen minutes after the time Seiryū had assigned; making him wait up to twenty-five minutes total when accounting for when he had arrived at the meeting cactus. Her first words happened to be towards the other two members of the squad, apparently already being acquainted with the male individual who had arrived twenty minutes ago. Seiryū avoided displaying a physical reaction to the girl’s forced comment to him, choosing to ignore it entirely for the time being. Bulate Sun, the girl introduced herself as, asked him a simple question that would be met with a simpler answer. “Yes, I’ve heard of your clan.” The irritation was only slightly laced within his words, for he figured they would have been done by now if they had started on time. “Also, your complimenting abilities need work. Flattery won’t work if you don’t mean it.” Seiryū supplied after pausing for a moment.

Now that they all had gathered, the first step was simple – getting acquainted with one another. There was no point in being in a squad if you knew next to nothing about the individuals you would be working with. “Now that we are all here… let’s begin with introductions.” Seiryū stepped forward, eyes sharply assessing each individual before he would introduce himself – it was up to him to lead this squad anyways. “My name is Imada Seiryū and I’ll be leading your squad from this day forward. I’m currently a jonin of this village.” If they wanted to know more about him, than they would need to ask him for that particular information. Needless to say, he wouldn’t say that aloud and instead let them take initiative if they sought out to do so. “What I want each of you to state is your name, why you want to be a shinobi, and what you think your strengths and weaknesses are.” Seiryū knew the answer to the last question would be subjective and biased upon what they knew about their own capabilities. He wanted to know what they thought of themselves, if they knew what their own limitations were; it would help him make an assessment of their character and of their ability once he actually saw them in action – he would see that in the future, today was not that day.

Once Futoshi saw each of the other two arrive, he was able to ascertain that the man standing next him was none other than Imada Seiryu. A jounin in Sunagakure. Futoshi didn't know a massive amount about the man, only that he was a very involved figure in the village. It was a little humorous to Futoshi that both of his squad mates were late. Did they not understand the importance of punctuality in a team setting? He then realized it was Chiaki who approached them loftily. The young man that had accompanied Futoshi on his first mission in which deadly force had been used. He was a worthy and capable companion. It was certainly good to know that at least one familiar face would be joining Futoshi on the squad.

Futoshi offered the arriving Chiaki with a returned nod of greeting, and then the three men waited. Out in the desert sun, though it wasn't a particularly hot day, time always seemed to drag by. It has been almost 15 minutes since Futoshi had arrived, and the third hadn't arrived. He wondered to himself just how stern and strict about being punctual Seiryu sensei would be. Just as he has allowed himself time to wonder, Sun arrived. That rascal of a girl came right along, sparing none of them from a very forward presentation and inquiry. Futoshi gave her a head nod as a greeting and awaited Seiryu's reaction to all of this.

The man seemed visibly stirred by Sun's arrival in particular. Futoshi could notice the unhappiness and irritation in his voice as he went forward with the meet-up and took his turn speaking to them all at once. He introduced himself as Imada Seiryu, jounin of Sunagakure, as Futoshi had already gathered. When he finished he gave them all their very first assignment. Introductions were not hard, neither was stating why he wanted to become a shinobi. The hardest part of the request would be revealing ones own weaknesses. It was subjective, really. One couldn't really do an effective self-diagnosis.

Futoshi took initiative and spoke. "My name is Magatsuna Futoshi. I have a dream of becoming strong enough to protect all of what I treasure. I want to serve and protect Sunagakure. My biggest weakness is a tougher question to answer, but as a Taijutsu and Ninjutsu specialist I would say mid-ranged weaponry and techniques are a practical disadvantage."

He finished his speech concisely before ending it and waiting to hear the others.

Chiaki watched their new sensei’s lips move, paying attention to the pronunciation and little quirks that could be found. After thinking on what movements were made, they concluded what was said. From the corner of their eye they spotted Futoshi, one of their new team mates, begin to speak. As they had just before, they used what lip reading skills they had and interpreted nearly all of what was said. Sadly, they didn’t turn around in time to catch the first bit, but enough was understood that Chiaki could then answer as well. With a heavy sigh, they shifted on their feet. There was a vague hint of annoyance in how the new teacher spoke, and it was best for Chiaki to assume they hadn’t got off to a very good start. With new resolve, they adjusted their posture to one more befitting of a meeting, their slack replaced with almost full attentiveness. Almost, but not entirely, as being at attention was not Chiaki’s cup of tea, as it were.

My name is Fukitsuna Chiaki.” They begin, the sound of their voice slightly louder than usual, however still quiet. They wanted to try speaking with a clear pronunciation, however this is not as easy in practise as in theory. Stretching out their neck slightly, they quickly resumed what their sensei had asked them to say. “I became a ninja because my clan believes power is what is important, and that I am not useful. I wish to prove them incorrect, and earn respect as a ninja, and as an individual.” It was a long sentence for them to say, and their pronunciation difficulties showed throughout the entire talk. “My strengths are simple. My clan’s dojutsu, and I believe I am, if nothing else, adequate with a bo-staff. As for my weaknesses, the largest one would be that I have a complete lack of hearing. I counter this by lip reading, but in the heat of battle communication is a much harder thing for me. Furthermore, due to the nature of my clan, attacks of the suiton element are something I’d rather avoid.” The last part was likely the hardest to say, simply because knowing your own weakness is what separates the strong from the really strong.

They took another sigh as they finished speaking, glancing away from everyone to look up at the clouds for just a brief moment of lazy respite. There were a total of four small ones in the sky, quite a bit more than usual. However they were still small clouds, ones that seemed to almost get lost in the vast emptiness of the sky. Meaningless distraction aside, Chiaki looked back to Seiryu with a half-serious facial expression. “After you’ve found out what you wish to know about us, sensei, could you please for the sake of efficiency, tell us your strengths? As a team, I believe it’s best to find what each member does best, so that future strategies are not missing key information.” With a content nod to themselves, Chiaki then turned to wait for the last team member to speak. They were happy with their words, if nothing else because it sounded like something an action novels protagonist would say, or at least their helpful accomplice.

When Seiryū confirmed his awareness of Bulate clan, it made Sun's mood jumped in joy. But sensei's awareness of the fake compliment was astonishing impressive. This jounin could tell lies, and Sun thought of herself as a convincing girl. Previously she had convinced Futoshi do to all kinds of stuff, but perhaps that's because his will was still weak - just like all genin.

Futoshi as the only male started the introductions. Although Sun had met up with Futoshi three times already, she came to know many unheard aspects of Futoshi. He sounded patriotic. And although Futoshi knew that Sun had medical capabilities, the girl never knew what kind of shinobi Futoshi was. She had seen his strong body and could guess that he could last in a fight way longer than Sun, but she had never seen him in action. A taijutsu and ninjutsu specialist - he suited the team as a great firepower and it felt good knowing that Futoshi would be fighting alongside Sun.

Next the introductions did this girl with the cool vest. It's good that she reintroduced herself as Chiaki, Sun obviously wasn't here yet when Chiaki first told her name. Girl then continued to talk and revealed that she possessed a dojutsu. That was so surprising, since Sun has never met anyone who uses dojutsu. Sun was impatiently looking forward to see what kind of abilities this girl had. And this girl also was deaf! Maybe that's why she didn't respond, and didn't even seem to notice Sun admiring the vest. Sadly, then there was no way of finding out where Sun could buy one vest like that for herself. Chiaki finished her introductions off by asking Seiryū to tell more about him. Of course, that was critical information, but it was also critical information to reveal that Sun was the only medical ninja here.

"Wait, wait, wait, before that, I shall tell you more about me!" Sun still acted like she was a person of utmost importance and waved her hands at Chiaki to gain her attention, so the girl could read what Sun was about to say. "As I said I am Sun of the Bulate clan. " she took pride in her clan, "I became a shinobi to help those in need. And I want to raise to be a high rank shinobi known for her medical ninjutsu," she hid the fact that she wanted to be a ninjutsu specialist while her brother was still alive, but that was a topic she did not want to dig up. "As you might have guessed, I am a medical ninja and that is my strength. Futoshi already knows this," she gave him a wink, "for my weaknesses, I will be true to you.." she held a pause to ponder if she really wanted to say it, "I am weak. I barely know any combat abilities, I am fragile and I won't stand long if I am threatened. Possibly, under dire circumstances I might even panic."

Sun had done speaking and took a few steps back to show that. She hadn't lied about her skills and she was ready to demonstrate them, although, hopefully Seiryū wasn't thinking of testing if she had lied about her weaknesses.

Seiryū

Seiryū

D-rank
One by one the three genin before him would answer the simple but vital questions he had asked them to answer; he knew that today was solely just looking at the outermost layers, where they would present the details they wished for everyone to know about themselves. The deeper rooted thoughts, beliefs, and values would present themselves over time, when there was an actual connection between them to allow for such things to happen. Of course, none of that would be truly that far in depth, not exchanging life stories, but rather finding ways to better them, which was the least Seiryū could do while leading this particular squad. Seiryū knew that finding a way to improve their capabilities on the field would take time; it wasn’t something he could achieve by snapping his fingers.

Like the order they arrived in, was the order in which Futoshi, Chiaki, and Sun had decided in answering the questions he had posed to them. Futoshi’s answer was simple, only scratching at the surface as to why he chose this particular path – there always was a choice. Seiryū knew that his answer had to have a deeper meaning, or at least he felt that there was more to it than those simple words. He found it vaguely similar to his own reasons, though his weren’t for ultimately altruistic reasons, but rather personal reasons that correlated somewhat with altruism. Taking a mental note of Futoshi’s current strengths – ninjutsu and taijutsu – and his supposed current weakness, of mid-ranged combat, Seiryū was slightly disappointed that the sole male genin hadn’t supplied something more meaningful, something regarding his own mentality when being placed in a combative situation. Did he over analyze a situation or was he more calculating? That would be something Seiryū would find out once they began training and going on missions, he supposed.

Chiaki had provided him with more depth to her answer, stating one of her weaknesses that he would be unable to tell had she not stated it here today. Seiryū knew for the squad to function as a collective whole, they would need to develop a way to communicate with Chiaki in the midst of combat, but how that would be done would need to be explored sooner or later. He wasn’t too privy to what Chiaki’s dojutsu was capable of, nor what it was either, but he was interested in seeing it in action when the opportunity presented itself. With a bojutsu user on the team, there were now two individuals who fit to participate in close-range combat. Seiryū simply nodded after Chiaki had posed the question to him, waiting for Sun to speak up before he would provide them with details of his own capabilities.

Figuring that the Bulate clan raised both medics and combat oriented shinobi, it wasn’t surprising the girl filled out the roll of medic. A medic on the squad was invaluable, though his own expertise in that field was more than limited. He only met a handful of med-nin over his career and even trying to learn the basics on his own end never suited him. Seiryū knew he’d only be able to help out the girl in a limited capacity, but he supposed there were a handful of medical shinobi in the village who could aid her in that aspect of becoming a shinobi. What he clearly needed to work on with the girl, at least for his initial assumption, was improving her confidence and finding a way to get rid of that mentality all together. It was one thing to know that you were weak in that particular scenario, though it was another to think you wouldn’t stand a chance.

Once all was said and done for the members of his squad, Seiryū figured he’d let them know about his own capabilities; specifically the strengths that Chiaki had asked of him. “I’m specialize mainly in sealing and bukijutsu techniques. For the sake of simplicity and not delving in to too much detail, I’m currently more oriented towards having more defense than offense.” Crossing his arms over his chest, letting his eyes hover over each of the three before him for a second or two, still feeling the weight of his weapon upon his left side, he figured he could find out a way to start their first task as a squad. Keeping that in mind, he figured there were only two real options available to them and he would let them choose their own fate. “I’m going to take a different approach than you may have expected. For your first assignment as a squad…” He paused, his eyes once more looking at each individual, “I want you three to decide amongst yourselves whether you want to take on a mission first or begin with a training session.” Honestly, he expected them to pick the training option over the mission, though his methodology preferred them learning to interact and coordinate with one another in a more meaningful situation, one that could be created with ease when taking a mission.

Each of his squad mates seemed to have a bit more to say than what Futoshi did. He liked to keep his dialogue simple and maybe in this instance that could have potentially worked out to be a disadvantage. He already knew each of their main attributes but interestingly he discovered that Chiaki was not fond of Suiton or water in a general sense.

Seiryu told them about his own abilities, being a bukijutsu specialist with sealing arts. He apparently took the principal of "The best offense is a good defense." He proposed to them that they all had a choice in what they would do during this first little excursion. Futoshi took it upon himself to go ahead and put his opinion in for consideration. A mission would he his idea of a good demonstration. And so he voiced that.

"A mission would be the most accessible way of showing off our strengths and weaknesses as a team. Familiarizing ourselves with the ideas of planning and executing coordinated attacks."

He didn't have a whole lot to say here, as it was merely a discussion of what they'd do, and being the first to speak meant he had much more listening to do until a decision was made.

"I'm perfectly content with doing whatever is decided upon, though. We will have plenty of time to do a variety of these activities, I'm sure."

Watching carefully, Chiaki waits as Imada Seiryu speaks, wanting to pay attention to every word so as to not miss a detail. First their mind wandered into the strengths of their sensei. Bukijutsu and fuinjutsu was an interesting combination to be sure. However, an interesting combination meant nothing unless used in a way that befits it, something Chiaki was secretly looking forward to seeing. It was at this moment that their thoughts began thinking of the pros and cons of each different scenario. On one hand, sparring is an efficient way to learn about each other in a relatively risk free environment; so long as nobody gets out of hand. On the other hand, a mission would be more of a way to begin seeing how each other works in the field, a form of understanding you don’t get from fighting one another. Catching the movement out of the corner of their eye, Chiaki turned to watch Futoshi speak his thoughts. It seemed his vote was on the mission.

With a sigh, Chiaki turned back to face their sensei, closing their eyes for a moment to gather their thoughts on which of the two to vote on, before opening them with a more concentrated gaze. Speaking slowly, each word thoroughly thought out and pronounced unlike the usual, they announce their views. “I believe working on a mission gives a more clear insight on what skills everyone has in the field. While sparring is good for an up close view of such a thing, a mission is more realistic of how things tran-hire.” Of course, with that last word they meant to say transpire, but it was always a tricky one for them to pronounce. Sometimes they got it right, but when they did it was only ever a lucky guess.

Having clearly spoken their mind, or at least having thought they did, Chiaki turned to watch Sun, a team mate that up until then they hadn’t looked at once. Upon a quick glance up and down, Chiaki simply determined one thing; her hair was weird. Of course, Chiaki’s was pretty stupid as well, but they were mostly intrigued by how the bottom of Sun’s hair seemed to defy gravity. They avoided thinking about it, and then proceeded to watch their new teammate’s mouth, ready to lip read, and then go back to watching Seiryu.

Seiryū's self-description sounded rather strong. Rarely anyone of Bulate clan studied fuuinjutsu and it wasn't taught in the academy. She had only vaguely heard of some medical-nins who also specialised in fuuinjutsu. Sun was looking forward to see their sensei in action. She also felt save when he mentioned that he is better at defense. That means there would be less opposition casualties. No one deserved to lose their life regardless of the bad choices they've made during their life. Protection was enough to win a fight, it was not obligatory to take lives.

Futoshi was suggesting going on a mission. Sun rooted for this as well. Training with squad didn't seem like something she wanted to do. She would get sweaty and dirty. The medical skills were not achieved by tough training, instead you needed practice and determination to study. Mission potentially involved someone getting injured. If this injury ended up as something that Sun could treat, then she would prove herself as a capable medical-nin and probably would earn sensei's approval. "I too would prefer a mission," she finally said, unsure if Chiaki could read this, "practice is the best training, after all." Sun had never been assigned on any missions before. She did help out in hospital and arena as the first-aid medic. She did accumulate some experience there, but she has never been on a field and faced enemy. She was cautiously eager to go on the battlefield if there was someone like Seiryū and Futoshi who would protect her.

It seemed like Chiaki missed the question - she answered what are the different benefits of mission and training. Maybe her lip reading skill wasn't developed to a high level. But regardless, the majority (Sun and Futoshi) had voted in favor of mission. It was good thought that Sun chose kunoichi apparel today instead of a dress or something to excel her beauty. She also had readied the first-aid kit in her leather bag. She was all set to go out on a mission!

With the internal conclusion of Futoshi, Chiaki, and Sun reaching the point of taking a mission over a training session, Seiryū nodded once all three had provided their answer to his inquiry. His own role in the mission would be minor, for he would provide them with a task that befit what he knew of their capabilities and rank. His role in the mission would be simply to provide support, supervise and ensure they weren’t facing any peril conditions; after all, it was likely he could easily complete the mission on his own. Thus he’d leave them to handle the mission at their discretion. If there was a chance of them getting seriously injured, or worse, would be when he would play a role in the mission, but this was ultimately on them. Though aside from that, the mission would entirely be up to the three squad members and it would be upon them to execute it until completion.

The choice of a mission provided them with a natural situation to the career of a shinobi – one which they would need to accomplish a task to fulfilment. A training session, while useful, was only limited in capacity to what one would achieve, the sense of danger or failure was never actually there while some may assume that it could be present. The mission he had in mind would be the perfect initial test; it would have been completed by another group should they, his squad, have chosen a training session. “Very well.” Pulling out the scroll the contained the necessary information from his right pocket, Seiryū held it outward such that one of the three could grab it to go over the mission details. They wouldn’t be leaving immediately and he figured they would be able to arrive back at the village within two hours at most, depending on well the mission went and the aftermath of the man’s actions.

“This will be the first assignment you three will be performing together as a squad. Read over the parameters of the mission and then we’ll be heading out for it.” Seiryū supplied, waiting for one of the three to take the squad and pass it around such that each could take a look at it before they would be heading out. “Ultimately, it should only take a couple of hours to complete the mission, so you’ll have the rest of the day to spend as you wish.” It seemed that their meeting, which he assumed would be short and agreeing to a training session had proven false. So instead of wrapping up in twenty minutes, they would be going on an actual mission instead of having an initial meeting that was only an exchange of basic information.

Futoshi felt the wind against his skin as he and his new squad mates stood around that famous meeting cactus. It cooled him off in its gentle brushing, and also filled him with a sense of peace. Having conquered the fear he had once had of the unpredictable, uncontrollable force of nature so called wind. His life was finally transpiring in a direction he could see suitable and fit. He had made the decision to uphold his duties as a shinobi out of fear of persecution or punishment from the village but overall he was now very happy with his choice. The life of a shinobi was one he was surprisingly fit for, and after getting his first taste of bloodshed and serving justice, he was happy. Life was going well.

He listened carefully to the opinions of his peers after giving his first. What they said would be important, and he wanted to be sure he heard them out clearly. Chiaki agreed with Futoshi, citing the good things about missions in their short piece of dialogue about them. “I believe working on a mission gives a more clear insight on what skills everyone has in the field. While sparring is good for an up close view of such a thing, a mission is more realistic of how things tran-hire.” It was a very sound and reasonable explanation, besides the last little word "trans-hire"? Futoshi wasn't sure what had happened there, but rested assured it must have just been a little glitch in association with deafness. Either way, there was no judgement coming from his mind, and he was pleased that Chiaki was in agreement. Futoshi knew Chiaki was a good shinobi, one he'd have picked for a team any day.

Sun agreed but with much more quick and clean of an answer. She had come dressed for the part, as it seemed. Futoshi considered her a very good person and a lovely friend by this point. She was a skilled medic and Futoshi would have picked nobody else to entrust his life to on the fields of combat. She was a very rambunctious girl with a lot of spirit. She would certainly add flavor to the team with her bratty personality.

Finally he turned his attention to their new sensei. He was a straightforward man. He seemingly radiates a sense of "no-nonsense" and that was admirable. Someone who had spent years of time in service of the village as he had would no doubt have taken on a more hardened outlook. Though it was notable that he wasn't that much older than Futoshi. With the squad having fully decided upon a mission as the next event in this meeting, Seiryu seemed to have no disagreements. He held out a scroll, seemingly toward anyone who desired to grab it. Futoshi didn't rush or jump on the opportunity, but he would reach out carefully and take the scroll, pulling it open and positioning himself so that his squad mates could easily read it with him.

Seiryu had evidently been prepared for either response, having taken the time to select a mission before they all met. The matter at hand he had chosen was a grave one indeed. A kidnapping of two young children. Only the most devious and horrible people could be cruel to children. Whatever sort of things he might be doing to the children, Futoshi couldn't bear to think of it. He clenched his fist and turned to Seiryu with a particular look. One that would convey his concern and displeasure with the fact that lives were at stake. The lives of children, at that.

"Do we have any leads? Any at all?"

He asked that directly, intent on wasting no time for small talk or pleasantries. Futoshi was a very calm person. It wouldn't be easily seen through at all, because really there was nothing to see through to. He was passionate about helping these children but he was unable to really convey urgency or distress. It disturbed him slightly, yes, but his worldview just didn't allow for panic.

"Chiaki, you have an excellent sensory ability. For the phase of this operation in which we will need to be locating the target, I'll give you the lead. Sun, your healing abilities might end up being needed especially if the children have been hurt. I am proficient in hand to hand combat, as such I could most easily secure the children without harming them with any dangerous elemental release. I will put my life on the line if I must to secure our targets. That's another place where I'll need you able and ready, Sun. I fear we only have days to do this, the fewer it takes us the better. If anyone has any suggestions on where to begin the investigation, please share."

He finished off his little planning session by tightening his headband and checking his ninja tools. He didn't have much, but he didn't need much. As he tightened his headband he looked at his comrades with a seriousness and said to them We are shinobi of Sunagakure, and we are not going to allow this violation to go unanswered for. Let's do this."

Chiaki glanced to the cactus, eyes picking up specifically the sun highlighting a bright purple flower. If they had more time, they would really have loved to just stare at the plant for hours on end. But this was the world of shinobi, and their sensei had a job for them to do. Their eyes switched back to looking at the team, Chiaki taking a step back so as to get a proper, wider view of everyone and everything. It was important to them to make sure they could see everything, since the topic had become more serious, and as such, every word was best to know. Looking intensely at the piece of paper, a frown spread across their face. Kidnapping of children. It really was a large problem. Honestly, Chiaki was surprised their sensei wanted them to take such an important task as their first. Perhaps it was to make best judgement of the teams skills under pressure? Whatever the reason, it was not important. This mission was direr than any Chiaki had been on previously, children were at risk. They admitted, they were usually pretty lazy. But that wasn’t going to be something shown in this situation. Not when it was important like this.

They look up to watch as Futoshi states his views on it. Chiaki agreed that due to their Eye of the Mind technique, they would be best suited for the location of the targets. After all, a small floating eye was quite easy to hide and manoeuvre, not to mention they had a few techniques that they were hoping could come in handy. Next, Futoshi mentioned what Sun’s role could be. It was another sound suggestion. A medical ninja as a home base seemed good to Chiaki. Any injuries could be healed, and it would mean they have a guarantee meeting point. Lastly, he mentioned his hand to hand proficiency. From what they’d all talked about, Futoshi was indeed the most suitable for the front lines, at least for now. Chiaki could provide back up if he needed, but this was only a lowly man who had the audacity to put children in harm’s way. Chiaki greatly doubted that the kidnapper would prove a threat, although that does not mean they won’t take every precaution. The only thing more dangerous than overestimating yourself, is underestimating who you’re up against. They weren’t too keen on the idea of Futoshi so brashly stating he was prepared to risk his life, but that was the world they all lived in. With a sigh, they nod. It was all sound logic.

They tap their weapon holster with a hand, rolling a shoulder as if they were limbering up for something as simple as a run. Quietly, they announce “After my jutsu has detected the targets, I believe I could have it resting on you, Futosho. That way I can stay back with Sun, and come to you if assistance is required.” This was assuming that the eye did not get attacked, but if Chiaki’s gut feeling was right, they’d be able to at least have some partial safe way of having the technique work. With a glance around, they give a thumbs up, a more simply and less terribly pronounced way of giving the all clear. They were as ready as they were going to be for the mission, so, they concluded it was best to get on with it.

Seiryū provided the team with a mission immediately. Of course they had asked for it, but it was too suspicious that the sensei had prepared a mission for them. Perhaps Seiryū was would've given the same thing for Squad 2 to do if they had chosen training over mission. It was a simple papyrus scroll containing all the necessary information to start the mission. And instead of reading it for them, he handed the scroll to Futoshi.

Instead of reading it out loud, Futoshi just turned the scroll towards Chiaki and Sun in order for them to read it too. Maybe Futoshi did it intentionally, since Chiaki couldn't hear a thing he was reading. Sun moved in closer, to get her eyes on the scroll. The mission was a rescue mission and it included confronting the criminal. Two missing kids needed rescuing. And a criminal needed to be confronted (Sun wished to bring him back alive).

Futoshi was right to judge that Sun would be useful here. If those kids were hurt - she would help them. If those kids were dehydrated then Sun's first aid kit would be of help. And of course during the fight with the kidnapper would need Sun's aid as well. To be precise - the results of the fight would need Sun's aid. She wouldn't led the criminal just die. She wanted to bring him back to Kazekage and to let everyone see what happens to criminals. If the shinobi were just to execute this criminal during their mission, it would appear in mission report, but the common folk would never know about it. These punishments served as a tool to decrease the crime rate in Sunagakure.

Futoshi asked for clues and Chiaki answered it. But to Sun again it seemed like Chiaki had misread the question. She answered like the criminal was somewhere nearby and Futoshi would hurry off after him right now. Of course the team had no idea where to search this criminal and Futoshi was right for asking for clues. "If they, the children," Sun spoke with a sorrow in her voice, she didn't want to look cruel towards children, but in reality, she was more interesting in finding the criminal, "were kidnapped in Suna, we might ask around and see if anyone has seen someone suspicious in living quarters talking to children." it seemed like a fine start for Sun and she felt that Seiryū was judging everything the young shinobi were saying.

His first true judgement of the squad placed under his eye was a decent one, they were overall seemingly loyal to the village, but more than that was the fact they possessed a moral compass he could be accepting of. Seiryū over the course of his life and career in the shinobi field exposed him to people from all walks of life, from varying backgrounds and upbringings, each of whom possessed an entirely different mindset when it came to addressing situations presented to those working as shinobi. There were those who had more cruel methods, where they barely cared for the life of another and solely focused on achieving the goal presented to them with the utmost desire. However, that put aside any room for making decisions that took in to account the larger picture, not when one’s mind was mainly focused on the end result of such a simple task. Thus, Seiryū’s first assessment of their individual characters passed; though he wouldn’t have a better grasp until he spent more time with them.

A lone wolf by nature, seldom ever having taken a mission with another, Seiryū knew that this particular mission would be different than any other he had been assigned before. For one, he wouldn’t actively be attempting to complete the mission; it was something he wanted to see the three accomplish on their own, to help provide them a certain mindset. It was contradictory in nature, for someone who worked on his own to advocate teamwork, but that was how he would have felt should Seiryū have ever allowed himself to grow close to people – in his life there were few people that he could actually consider friends.

Turning to Futoshi as the younger male posed his question, Seiryū only took a second to reply, for that piece of information was vital to actually beginning the mission. “The last we’ve heard about the kidnapper was that he was able to tell when the negotiators had gotten within a few hundred meters of the bunker he’s holed up in. He’s taken the children to an abandoned bunker a kilometer and a half north-east from the meeting cactus.” Letting them discuss their strategy among themselves and allowing them to conclude, Seiryū only spoke up once he got the sense they were ready to head out. “If you guys are ready, lets head out.” This would begin Seiryū’s first mission, that wasn’t his own mission.
