He'd pasted a sign on some of the stands in the market place, saying in bold letters: "Bored Genin Looking to Spar at the Rolling Hills". It's true: Kashizudoto was extremely bored, and he knew that he couldn't achieve his dream of becoming a great commander if he was cooped up inside all day without any live practice. Sure, he was fresh out of the Academy and would probably lose, but Kashizudoto was well aware that failure can make a person much stronger as long as he or she learns from their mistakes.

He brought a kunai, three shuriken, and an open mind to the grounds. While he was skilled in Kenjutsu, he still hadn't bought his own katana yet. It was a shame, but he unfortunately couldn't bring his all to the sparring match; he would need his katana to let his true self shine in the fight. However, being a Sarutobi, he was still very skilled in Katon no Jutsu and had utmost faith in it, whether he could back himself up with a katana or not.

However, no matter how much faith he had in Katon, he was well aware that he was missing out on the full potential of his Kekkei Genkai, the Will of Fire Paladin, as well as his Kekkei Genkai Jutsu, the Sword of the Will - both of which could amplify his Bukijutsu strikes even further. He did realize that there was another, less effective, way to exploit his clan traits: the dreaded hand-to-hand combat. Kashizudoto was by no means a Taijutsu specialist and truly loathed the art with all his heart; however, he realized that he could still make hand-to-hand combat work as long as he frequently used Katon no Jutsu to amplify his strikes with his Kekkei Genkai, even though it would be much less effective than his Kekkei Genkai-enhanced swordplay for certain.

Given these disadvantages, it would be a huge achievement for Kashizudoto to beat anyone who'd at least graduated from the Academy. He was going to make sure that he informed whatever opponent showed up of his disadvantage so he wouldn't be a laughing stock when they beat him. He waited patiently for his opponent, ready to face them, whoever they were.

"Bored Genin Looking to Spar at the Rolling Hills"

Blue eyes scanned over the sign again, making sure that he had read it correctly. So.. this ought to be interesting. Someone was looking for a spar out in the rolling hills, hm? A genin, no doubt someone fresh out of the academy and looking to prove and or test themselves against the more established genin or chuunin. Very well.. A gloved hand reached out and snatched down the sign, folding it up and tucking it into a pocket; he would meet this bored genin out in the rolling hills, and test his mettle. Turning in the direction of Rolling Hills, the male would set off, moving at a brisk pace that would have him arriving in the Rolling Hills in no more than fifteen minutes.

~Fifteen Minutes Later~

The male moved along the grassy clearing at a lesuirely pace, blue eyes darting around as to attempted to gain sight of any sign of his sparring partner. He was dressed in his usual ensemble: He wears a black jacket with skull-motif buttons and sequenced details on pockets. He keeps it unzipped and the tag on the zipper also has a small skull. Underneath he wears a steel gray shirt with skull prints. Tré wears black cropped trousers and black buckled boots with red soles. He wears a black motorcycle glovelet on his left hand. Strapped to his left side was the sword that he'd recently gained from his mission deliver a package to the outpost. It was a beautiful thing; a jian, or a Chinese straight sword. The blade is approximately seventy centimeters long and four centimeters wide, with the grip measuring about twenty centimeters long. The sword is light and flexible, weighing less than one kilogram. Comes with a hard leather scabbard. The blade is a testament to the skill of its creator; a true work of art with no visible flaws on its surface at all. The hilt is covered with decorated silk and the guard can be accented by ingraining pearls or precious gems into its surface, as well as making unique designs specific to each blade. Despite the length and width of the blade, it is strong and will not break under stress. It is sharp and has the shine of a polished weapon that glistens in the light. He had brought the weapon with him as this was a trainning spar, and he needed to treat it as if it were a real fight to the death, despite him not actually being out to kill his opponent. Not that the sword was the only thing he brought with him; there was Kunai and several shuriken hidden on his persona as well, ready to be brought out should the situation call for it.

As the sun shone down on the grassland, the male peered into the distance; spotting what appeared to be someone standing in the clearning. From the way he was approaching, they would see him clearly as he made his way closer. As he drew closer, the male could see ther persona more clearly; a boy, standing in the clearing appearing as if he were waiting for someone.

"Natake, Tre. Are you the bored genin looking for a spar or something?"

From afar, Kashizudoto spotted a dark-haired adolescent. Upon closer inspection, everything about him seemed to be dark. He had an unzipped black jacket, with - upon closer inspection - skull-motif buttons. Not only that, even his zipper tag had a small skull on it. Underneath the jacket was a steel gray shirt, with - again - MORE skulls. Of course, his trousers and boots were both black, and he had a glovelet on his left arm which was - again - black. This guy must have been obsessed with death or something, between the skulls and the dark colors. However, as the adolescent got closer and closer, Kashizudoto's ace eye finally picked up something that wasn't black: the teen's blue eyes.

Wait... was that... a jian on his left side? Damn it, this guy brought his sword along. That sword was a beauty, with few flaws - if any - on its surface. Not to mention the well-designed hard leather scabbard and the silk-decorated hilt. He was sure the guy also had kunai and shuriken hidden in that jacket. Kashizudoto, having not been able to purchase a katana yet, understood that this was gonna be a tough spar. However, he was here to get better, not necessarily to win. What better way to improve than to make mistakes and learn from them?

The adolescent strided over until they were face to face on the clearing, each with the understanding that they were to spar each other.

"Hatake, Tre," the adolescent revealed, "Are you the bored genin looking for a spar or something?". Kashizudoto knew that most of the shinobi hailing from the Hatake clan were users of the Lightning Style, which was a relief to Kashizudoto - who could stand anything except for the Water Style. That aversion to Suiton was one of the few things that Kashizudoto felt that he had in common with the other Sarutobis.

"You're right," the bored genin said, "I'm Kashizudoto." He made sure to specifically not include his clan name; it could reveal a lot of information - including his strengths and weaknesses - to his sparring opponent, who could use this information to his advantage in the fight.

"I see you brought your jian along. That thing's a real wonder," said Kashizudoto, "I guess you could call me a lousy ninja for being unprepared, but I didn't bring a katana along, so unfortunately we won't be having any sword-to-sword combat. That said, don't think I'm not gonna put up a fight!" He secretly hoped that, by revealing his unpreparedness, he could make the opponent cocky enough to throw him off his guard with his ninjutsu.

"So, I guess we'll begin. Good luck, said Kashizudoto. He took a deep breath before filling his mouth and throat with chakra, converting it into an invisible but noxious gas before exhaling it all out into 10 cubic meters of gas  - unable to be seen by the naked eye.

"You're right, i'm Kashizudoto."

Ah, so he did indeed find the correct person. Wonderful.

"I see you brought your jian along. That thing's a real wonder," said Kashizudoto, "I guess you could call me a lousy ninja for being unprepared, but I didn't bring a katana along, so unfortunately we won't be having any sword-to-sword combat. That said, don't think I'm not gonna put up a fight!"

To be honest, he did not know this person well enough to form an opinion of him in either direction, good or bad. Tre was sure that during the course of this battle, he would form one of his opponent. In response to this comment, Tre merely shrugged casually. It would be foolish of him to think this persona less of a threat because of a lack of a weapon; taijutsu specialists, more often than not, got along just fine with a lack of weapons. Surely, this person was skilled in other things beyond just the arts of Bukijutsu -- unless his entire ploy was to make Tre underestimate him? Not likely; even as this persona was speaking, Tre drew the Jian was drawn from its sheath in a normal grip with his right hand.

"So, I guess we'll begin. Good luck", said Kashizudoto. He took a deep breath -- what was that? Uh oh. Breathing was bad. Deep breathing was a requirement for either Katon or Futon style jutsu. The young man was not worried about a Futon style jutsu – he doubted this little boy was capable of anything remotely destructive with Futon, if even that. But Katon... Katon was a different story. Katon was annoying to deal with -- the spread damage was a pain to deal with.

As this male took a deep breath, Tre took the opportunity to reposition himself, leaping backwards to bring himself to an even ten meters away from his opponent. With the weapon in already hand, a red aura of Raiton would crawl down the blade and be released in this opponent direction as the weapon was swing, releasing an arc of Crimson Raiton that would sail through the air at 20m/s for a distance of 15ms. Should the arc be allowed to strike his opponent unhindered, the energy would cause 1½ inch cuts, major external bruising and possibly fracture bone, and major 1st/minor 2nd degree electrical burn damage.

At this point, one of two things was sure to happen. Being that his opponent was in the midst of performing a jutsu with an explosive property, the moment Tre's arc of Crimson Raiton would touch it, it would explode in this kid's face should he not have moved; Tre himself would not be affected, as he was well outside the spread range for the given time frame.. As a bonus, if this kid was still performing the jutsu at the moment arc impacted his cloud of gas, he would be in for a world of hurt...

But, perhaps this kid would see what was happening and decide another course of action. Time would tell.

As he finished exhaling the invisible gas cloud, Kashizudoto had been gathering more Katon chakra for his next jutsu. He had noticed his opponent leaping back a safe 10 meters while he finished up his earlier jutsu - the opponent charging up his sword with some red lightning thing.

"Wait... If lightning hits the gas cloud," thought Kashizudoto - remembering how even a tiny spark could set off his jutsu, "Shoot."

He simultaneously leaped into the air backwards (to stay a safe distance from the gas) - making the tiger seal and taking a deep breath, collecting Katon chakra in his mouth and throat for his next move. He was preparing to release a giant fireball projectile, 5 meters in diameter, which would immediately pass through the gas cloud to only become even fiercer - heading towards the Hatake, who was a mere 10 meters away, at a speed of 20m/s, meaning that the Hatake would have less than 1/2 a second to process what was happening and react to the situation appropriately once the jutsu was cast. If it hit, it would cause minor third-degree burns to all exposed flesh and major second-degree burns to all unexposed flesh. Of course, whether or not Kashizudoto would have the time to cast his Great Fireball Jutsu would be up to his opponent, who would have to act quickly with his Crimson Raiton to counter Kashizudoto's moves.

Ignition.

The arc of Crimson Raiton would impact the gas cloud long before it would reach Tre, setting off the explosion of flame and heat and leaving him unharmed. Miraculously, Tre's opponent would somehow be unharmed in this exchange as well, having somehow finished breathing out the gas before the explosion went of and jumped clear. He'd even gone so far as to begin preparing a counter attack, breathing in yet again for a second jutsu.

But there was something that he did not account for. The special properties of the Natake clan's Crimson Raiton was that it was known as a defense breaker; meaning it interacted with defenses as if it were one rank higher than it actually was. For Tre to use the Crimson Raiton against this person would not only ignite the gas of Misty Flame Dance, but the arc of Crimson Raiton would continue on towards this persona as if nothing had happened to it in the first place. But that would not be all, no, that would only be the beginning of his pain; the aura of Crimson Raiton was still cloaking Tre's Mirage Sword. Even before the explosion died down, the blade was in motion again, firing a second wave of crimson energy at his opponent, in the wake of the first one, following the same path as before, effectively hiding the second wave in the shadow of the first at 20m/s.

Should one wave hit this persona, it would be simple enough damage; 1½ inch cuts, major external bruising and possibly able to fracture bone, and major 1st/minor 2nd degree tissue damage. But should both waves hid dead on with no amount of mitigation? This male was looking at an almost guaranteed broken bone if struck in the same place by both, not to mention the electrical burns that would be inflicted upon him. Despite not being able to see past the explosion, Tre was not worried; his clan's Raiton abilities were not well known, but were potent. If this persona was going to attempt to counter with another jutsu of equal ranking, he would need to make sure it had a chakra cost that was higher than that of Tre's Crimson Raiton, as it would break through....

Explosion.

As Kashizudoto finished breathing out his counterattack - a giant fireball, the gas cloud in front of him suddenly ignited. It must have been that red lightning on the Natake's sword! Through the explosion, Kashizudoto's ace eye caught an arc of lightning sailing through, going at a trajectory that would hit his forehead.

He quickly moved his hands - which were still clasped together into a tiger seal - into his head to push it backwards (so that it wouldn't get hit). As a result, the lightning arc glazed over his forehead, frying a tiny part of his hair. As he tilted his face up back again, just a little, to try and see what was ahead, he caught a second arc! Thankfully, gravity had brought his body down enough so that the arc would only barely scrape his hair once again.

He would proceed to fall face-up to the ground with a thud, extremely fatigued - the only things preventing his back from getting extremely hurt were his arms, which cushioned his fall. He had some time to catch his breath; the ignition of the gas cloud was masking Kashizudoto and - more importantly - the great fireball that was heading straight for the Natake. On impact, the fireball would cause minor second-degree burns to exposed skin and major first-degree burns to unexposed skin.

Would the Natake notice what was coming for him? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, it bought Kashizudoto more time to catch his breath and get up.

The first arc sailed through, igniting the gas of Misty Flame Dance and sailing through it.

The Second arc followed the same path as the first one, cleaving through the explosion. There were no cries of pain, nothing; did he miss? Tre could not imagine how he could have missed, but it was all good. It meant the fight could last longer, and he could enjoy it more. He would try again, the Crimson Raiton covered blade swung again in a diagonal fashion from hip to collarbone with the same power as before; 1½ inch cuts, major external bruising and possibly able to fracture bone, and major 1st/minor 2nd degree tissue damage. Hell, it was even moving at the same speed as before; but Tre did not care. Oh no, the end of this fight was coming, sooner than later.

Unbeknownst to him, as the arc of Raiton flew through the air, it would impact the Great Fireball Technique this persona had prepared and fired. Typically, if two offensive techniques were of even ranking, they would cancel each other out --- not in this case. Because Tre's Crimson Raiton slash cost more chakra than this persona's Great Fireball, the arc would actually cleave through it as well, completely destroying the chakra to leave nothing behind of it -- not even an explosion -- and continue on towards Tre's opponent at chest height.

But Tre was not done, oh no. Even as the arc flew through the air --before impacting the Great Fireball --, the young male produced a Kunai and charged a bit of additional chakra into his Jian in preparation for something to come. For the moment, he would wait and see how this scene would unfold -- time would tell if this kid would have what it took to best him.

As the explosion cleared, those calm sapphire eyes would shift in color, turning to a burning crimson color. This kid was resourceful -- or at the very least, knew how to string together a basic combo. Misty Flame Dance combined with Great Fireball? Child's play. Any genin with Katon aligned chakra worth his head band knew that old as dirt combo. No, if this kid wanted to beat Tre, he would have to do something spectacular -- Tre was damn near a prodigy in his own right. While his clan was no where near as famous as say, The Uchiha or the Hyuga, they were powerful on thier own ways. If this kid wanted to beat Tre, he would need to go above and beyond.

Either he would succeed, or he would fail spectacularly. That was not to say that Tre would be angry if he should happen to lose this spar -- on the contrary, it would make him happy that someone was able to best him -- at least, someone from his own village. If someone of his ranking was a strong as he was, he would feel better about the safety and the future of Konoha. But if this kid could not measure up.. well then. It would be back to his bitter disappointment in the village's systems, and the affirmation of his beliefs that the village hidden in the leaves would better off in someone else's hands that those wretched old fools who did nothing but sit around and dictate while leaving other to do the heavy lifting.

Time would tell.

Ok. New strategy. This guy was charging up his sword with some sword of red lightning chakra and flinging it at Kashizudoto, right? Well, that must take a lot of chakra to continuously power up and fling. So the solution was to exhaust the other guy until his chakra pool ran out. It wasn't like Kashizudoto had a ton of chakra himself, but perhaps he could make this work.

The ash left in the wake of the explosion was just about to begin the process of settling down and clearing up, and Kashizudoto was still on the ground. He willed himself back up, but it took a lot of energy: he was still really tired from that exchange. Still, he was able to weave the necessary hand seals to perform Ninja Art: Tile Shuriken in order to surprise the enemy with a weapon assault. He was sure that this would work, but perhaps it would be a flop.

Dragon → Rat → Horse → Tiger. Suddenly, four sticks on the ground were lifted up into the air and compressed into sharp kunai knives. At the same time, six loose patches of earth were levitated and shaped into shuriken. As quickly as he created them, he launched them into the ash cloud left from the explosion. It was perfect timing. Once the ash cloud would clear up enough to see, the Natake would immediately find himself ambushed by weapons less than a meter away from him. Each one would pierce as much as 3/4 of an inch into his skin.

After weaving the hand signs and launching the weapons at his target, Kashizudoto got into position to dodge, as he was sure the Natake was going to launch another arc of red lightning at him.

Would the Natake fall for the ambush or would he miraculously escape?

This was getting slightly annoying; sharp eyes pick up on flying objects as they passed through the ashes. In response, the Mirage Sword was swing in a vertical fashion, blocking off the flying objects and sending them scattering off to the left side. Attacking from behind a cover was useful... if Tre did not already know this genin was there.

He was not being impressed. If this was all this Kashizudoto kid could do, then Konoha was in bad shape. While against a normal opponent, this kid's tactics would have been useful, but Tre was noted to have better visual perception than most people of his age group. This kid had to have something more, something different. The only thing he was showing off was that he knew how to throw a basic combo together, and how to use a simple, circumstancial attack.

The future of the village hidden in the leaves was in dire shape.

If this kid wanted to play childish games, then Tre had one of his own. With the ashes fully out of the air, Tre was left with a completely clear sightline of his target. The Mirage Sword was lifted ans swung yet again; a blazing red arc of Raiton was released in the kid's direction with the same properties as before and aimed at his chest, but this was the begining of Tre's ploy. You see, Tre figured this kid had to be dodging the arcs somehow, and when this did, he would be in trouble; as soon as he moved, the Mirage Sword would be lifted and thrown end over end at this kids chest as well, a whirling blade of pain at a speed of 20m/s. Should it strike this kid, he would be mostly fine. If the blade strike him, this kid would more than likely suffer a cut or two of about one and a half inch deep; if they hilt hit him, he would not have much more than simple moderate bruising.

Even as both the arc and sword flew through the air, Tre took the split second lapse in time to begin channeling that strange red raiton into the kunai he gripped....

The explosion was beginning to clear. Kashizudoto could hear his cluster attack being deflected, but he was sure that this would provide ample time for him to get to his feet while his opponent was distracted. He did, indeed, get back to his feet and was up and alert by the time the next arc was thrown at him.

Knowing his opponent's skill in flinging some sort of energy arc, he was prepared to counter his opponent's jutsu this time and quickly sidestepped to the left to avoid it with little trouble; however, he definitely didn't expect his opponent to directly throw his sword at him soon after he began dodging!

Kashizudoto, with a perceptive ability better than most fresh out of the Academy, was quick to see the whirling blade coming at him fast, so he immediately sidestepped to the right back where he originally was. Unfortunately, he did not react in time: while most of his chest was unscathed, he was hit by the hilt on the far left of his chest, causing moderate bruising over in the area.

While coughing up a little blood and trying to catch his breath, Kashizudoto tried to analyze the situation. He definitely wasn't in a position to win whatsoever. He had taken some hits in the forehead and the chest. Additionally, his offensive jutsu really couldn't touch the Natake. The best Kashizudoto could do was pull off a draw without his katana.

Wait... This guy's jian was thrown, right. That meant that Tre was likely gonna channel his arcs through the kunai he was gripping. What that also meant, more importantly, was that Kashizudoto, a specialist in Japanese swordsmanship, could grab this guy's jian and use it to try and draw the match. Since the sword had hilt-smashed Kashizudoto in the chest, it landed not too far from him.

As a result, he quickly ducked down to grab Tre's jian. Kashizudoto was well aware that he was leaving an opening for the Natake to again attack, so he stayed alert for the next arc, although he had his doubts that he could dodge an incoming arc completely in the position and state that he was in. It would be a cruel twist of fate, regardless, for the Natake's blade to be used against him - although Kashizudoto had no intention whatsoever of permanently stealing the blade from his Leaf comrade, of course.

This match was over.

With the impact of the Jian off this kid, this Kashizudoto, it was game over for him.  As soon as the weapon impacted off this kid and bounced off, Tre instantly triggered the jutsu he had prepared earlier; a substitution technique. With the infusion of chakra that Tre placed into the Mirage Sword, it  was a  prime candidate for the substitution technique. Given that Tre realized that his opponent was a dodgy type, if he attempted to move closer, his opponent would just back away -- it had to happen in a subtle manner.

With the item now in the air right next to Kashizudoto, it was only a matter of a flare of chakra and the change was initiated and carried out. For Kashizudoto, it would seem as if Tre seemingly teleported into the air next to him right as Kashizudoto was coughing up blood.

A momentary lapse was all Tre needed.

By nature of the Substitution technique, the swapped item retained the appearance of the person who swapped with it momentarily; there was a perfect copy of Tre still located where he moved from; given that his sword impacted this kid's left side as Kashizudoto was moving, it was highly, very unlikely that Kashizudoto would notice what happened before it was too late, even with the 'poofing' sounds that accompanied it. Hell, Tre was pretty damn sure of it; the substitution technique causes the user to move at speeds untraceable to human perception. By the time this kid realized what was happening, Tre's kunai would be pressing against Kashizudoto's neck.

"Checkmate."

What would this kid do now? Would he accept defeat, or would he attempt to drag out this fight? Tre was close enough that a fireball to the face would no doubt hit him, but Tre was also close enough to push the kunai into Kashizudoto's jugular before the kid could draw in a breath if Tre had a mind to.

Not that he would kill a fellow leaf nin in a spar, but the opportunity was there, and well within his grasp.

"Checkmate." Wait, what? What the hell? How did this guy manage to suddenly poof right there in place of his sword...

Wait. He must've infused chakra in the jian before for a Substitution Technique. That's how he was able to poof like that. Kashizudoto fell for his trap completely, like a mouse going straight for the trap to get the cheese, only that the bait this time was the blade rather than cheese.

A kunai knife was pressed right up to Kashizudoto's neck, although he had faith that the man wouldn't kill a fellow Konoha ninja in a spar. Well, it was a spar after all, no bad blood.

"You got me Tre," admitted Kashizudoto, "That was a good trick you had there. Anyway, this was just some practice for the real work of a ninja, and I'm happy that I got to see some new kinds of maneuvers. But when I get stronger and more experienced, I'll challenge you again, trust me. So for now, I'll be off."

With that, Kashizudoto backed off a bit from Tre and his kunai knife. Then, masking his disappearance with some of the tall grass that the Roling Hills was famous for, he would instantly depart for the village with the Shunshin no Jutsu - vitalizing his body with chakra to leave at an untraceable speed, trusting that the Natake's work was done there as well.

Of course, he had lost this fight. But, frankly, he didn't care if he won or lost a silly thing such as a spar. The point was that he gained some valuable insight and training for when he would really have to put in his all, and that was what mattered. Of course, he would've obviously enjoyed winning the fight more, but Kashizudoto doubted that an easy victory would teach him much. If anything, if winning a spar was a breeze, it would make him overconfident or, perhaps, even a bit worried about Konoha's future. He had no regrets about this spar, and he would happily fight Tre again in the future, hopefully with a katana the next time.

Perhaps if he became good enough to match the Natake evenly, Kashizudoto could find a rival in this man. Regardless, he returned to the village with a new determination to continue training to be the best he could be.

There was a momentary pause; it appeared that his opponent was attempting to process how Tre had accomplished this feat. A slow smile crept to the Natake's face as his opponent came to realize what happened; the fact that the Jian was Tre's delivery method of reaching his opponent.

Tre nodded, lowering the Kunai from the younger male's neck. Before Kashizudoto could turn away, the elder male offered him a polite bow, before watching him depart.
