Zinan

Zinan

D-rank
Again, Zinan was disturbed by the cry of a falcon. Two days in a row, he headed to the trees of the forest surrounding Konoha in the attempt to study sensory techniques. Two days in a row, his studies were interrupted by the sound of a messenger bird that carried, to him, the contents and assignment of a mission. With a scowl, he beckoned the bird down out of the sky and let it settle on his arm. He wasted no time in relieving the bird of its message and dispatching it back to the aviary. Whatever response that he had, concerning the mission, was not something that needed to get back to the Hokage. He'd accept this mission in turn, and remain quiet about his disdain and irritation he felt, which arose from his interrupted studies.

Zinan read the message quickly, stopped, looked around, and read it again, but this time much slower. His eyes weren't playing tricks on him. He was to go on a scouting mission. To another village. Alone.

The Hokage finally trusted him enough to allow him to venture out of the village by himself. An on top of that, it was to the village where the Chuunin exams were being held. Zinan was certain that the Hokage wouldn't mind if he dawdled about in the other village for a while. In fact, he was certain that was what the Hokage had intended by sending Zinan to Kumo to begin with.

With a whoop, Zinan clapped his book shut and leaped from the tree. He landed with soft knees and took off at a full out sprint. The genin needed to stop by his family's compound before the mission, so that he could pack essential supplies, say goodbye to his mother, and be on his way in peace. He would made an attempt to avoid his brother and father in the process as well.

He reached his family's home in good time and rushed about the house, quickly and quietly, gathering his things. He packed some dry rations, a few canteens of water, a couple of changes of clothes, a small sewing kit, and sleeping gear. He also inventoried his small selection of ninja tools, including his tantō, two kunai, three shuriken, and his fifty foot spool of wire. Afterwards, he bustled out of the house, with a kiss on his mother's cheek, and down the path towards the village. He needed to stop off at one of the gate guard shacks to let them know that he was leaving the village on a mission.

Zinan had a decent report with the gate guards, as his family lived outside of the walls of the village. They were the first people in the Village Hidden in the Leaves that Zinan saw every morning, and they were the last ones he saw every night. But now, he'd be seeing them for the last time in a while. It was exciting.

He made it to the nearest gate in next to no time and he stopped by the little guard shack. He showed the pair his travel authorization and shook their hands. They wished him luck on his first mission outside of the walls of Konoha. With a smile and bow, Zinan turned from the pair and strutted out of the gate. After a few meters, the sounds of the village faded, and it was just the plod of his feet and the grinding of gravel underneath his feet.

He wondered if anyone was watching him now. He knew that higher ranked shinobi, and ANBU Black Ops ninja, patrolled the forests around the village. Every now and then, when he was walking to and from his family's home, he could feel eyes on him, but Zinan could never figure out where they drilled him from. That was part of the reason why he wanted to learn sensory techniques. He was already working on one technique, but it required that he remained still to use it. It was useful for setting up traps and ambushes, but it didn't do the genin any good while he was traveling.

Zinan scowled to himself, but kept up his slow walking pace. He knew that he was in no rush to get to the Kumo, but he wondered why ninja never used horses for traveling. It would only make sense for these longer trips. He shook his head with a shrug, lifted his eyes, and carried on down the road.
