Uchiha Tenzō

Uchiha Tenzō

S-rank
No clouds were invading the blue sky upon this particular day, and the weather was rather fair and calm despite that slight breeze which wanted desperately to make its presence known from time to time. It was quite perfect to spend time outside in this particular morning, and the location which Tenzō found unoccupied at that time was now being used to hoist the auditions, the only problem was that it was a bit embarrassing due to the fact that there were noisy brats moving from a corner to another; however, the classes were about to begin quite soon. Just outside Konohagakure’s Ninja Academy, the Uchiha was sitting at a table with a few sheets of paper that were located right under the nose of the raven-haired man.

Even thought it was pretty sunny outside, the man was wearing a long sleeved shirt that was black and had the Konohagakure’s Military Police Force symbols imprinted on each sleeve, on the upper part more specifically. This shirt was complimenting that pair of jet-black pants that were carefully tucked inside those grey sandals. Apparently, the man has finally managed to build up the determination that was needed to form a squad of his own; as such, auditions were going to start in this particular day. Tenzō might not have the most appropriate personality and traits that were needed for a good teacher; however, the experience which he earned over the passing years could be proven useful for the new students.

Picking students without even having the chance to see them was something that did not go along with the man’s character, therefore, their potential and personality, along with their set of skills needed a quick check before reaching a concluding decision. It was quite obvious they needed to have a certain amount of synergy between them, since that was one of the key factors that stood behind a good shinobi squad. Their personalities had to match in a certain way so that a natural cooperation would be possible, listening to orders was simply not enough under stressful and dire situations. All of them had to work together as a whole, even when the squad leader was not around they should be capable of coordinating themselves  around the battlefield.

The table at which the Uchiha was located had chairs all over and it was more of an outside table with benches against it instead of something formal that was mostly used at conferences, this was after all the so called playground of the Academy. A few students were going to be allocated by the Hokage, although the raven-haired man worked differently and he was going to test each one of them before approving their entry within the squad, and at the moment the man had no official students. Each sheet of paper that was standing beneath those ebony eyes had a purpose of its own, and they were meant to be filled by the students upon their arrival; however, the was also a small notebook which belonged towards the man, one in which he would note down his personal thoughts and conclusions.

Trotting down the streets of Konoha, Reiko musingly chewed on a melon bun, her eyes on the clouds. It had been a peaceful morning, for her, and she was practically grateful for that. It wasn't often she got a morning where nothing went wrong or really exerted her at all. She'd been able to sleep in a bit, warm up, eat breakfast, and leave, no problem. So, on this particular day, she was in a good mood. To make it better, she'd yet to be placed in a squad after passing her Acadamy exam, and now was headed for a second chance to prove that she wasn't a stuck-up priss that so many people thought the Hyuga were these days. With hope, she'd end up in a squad with some good teammates before long.

Nodding to herself, Reiko stuffed the remaining piece of the bread into her mouth, chewing with some difficulty as she reached up, pulling out the band that tied up her hair from her morning exercise and pulling it out. Her hair tumbled down over her shoulders, and she smiled, running her fingers through to be sure there were no tangles. Sure, she wasn't a priss, but she liked her long hair, and felt she was obligated to. She was a female, after all. Her mother had always told her she was expected to have at least halfway decent hair every day. Her arms dropped to her sides when she was finished, tucking the tie away in her back pouch. She rounded by the corner, and there was the Academy, as loud as always with the children and young teens running in for schooling. Pausing by the fence, she watched for a moment, raising her hand once or twice to younger students that called out her name.

Reiko heaved in a breath and smiled, turning around and heading towards the area she'd been told to go, rounding about the fence that closed off only one side of it. Nobody seemed to be there at first, at least, not until she spotted the ebony haired man sitting at a table across the area. Taking another breath, Reiko started through the mazelike bunching of chairs, pushing her way towards the man. When she'd finally made it through to the area that was actually set up, she started to get nervous. He seemed not to have noticed her, so she stepped up to him and gave a quick bow. "Good morning," she said, attempting to keep her voice level and polite.

Being concentrated on that notebook while also having those ears constantly assaulted by those pesky kids, the man did not paid enough attention in order to notice the girl’s approach. Nonetheless, as soon as those two words have started connecting with the man’s ears, simultaneously, that head of his began tilting upwards. The girl was already bowing, and before she could even finish up her gesture, a quick and swift question almost had the opportunity of escaping from those lips “Hmm... how can I help –“; however, the man paused abruptly. Due to the bow being rather short, those ebony eyes that were fixated against the girl had finally managed to find their contrast.

“Please, take a sit.” the Uchiha said while doing a small gesture with his hand at the opposite side of the table, more specifically, towards the chair which stood beneath the girl’s nose. Right after the gesture ended, the raven-haired man closed the notebook before pushing himself from that seated position of his. A few heavy footsteps followed after, and the man relocated himself against the left side of the table, before resting that firm buttocks against it, sitting in a more casual way than he was before. With both arms folded against that well-toned chest, the man lowered those eyes once more against the girl, letting them feast freely before speaking again “I believe that you’re Reiko? Hmm... I see. Well, my name is Uchiha Tenzō. A pleasure to meet you.” on a benevolent tone.

Another pause followed right after those words had ended, one which the man used to bow slightly while still keeping both arms folded. That gaze was prolonged a bit more along with that pause, in case the girl wished to add something to those earlier words, if not, then he would continue speaking. “I must say that, I appreciate the effort that you’ve placed in your, grooming, not that you really needed it.” the man uttered before ending those words with a playful twist at the end while unfolding both arms. Without adding anything more, the Uchiha would reach out for the paper sheets that were located across the table, slithering all of them against the wooden surface, bringing the stack closer towards the girl. “If you have any question, please don’t refrain yourself from asking.” were the last words he said before placing a pencil near the young girl.

A few blanks were located on the page that he pushed towards the young lady, and in the first couple of rows the name and address was needed to be added; however, things were getting more serious down the line since nature affinity and specializations followed after. The last part was entitled personality traits, in which the young girl had to note down a few of her hobbies, if he or she had any at all.  Last, but not least, a question was noted at the end which questioned the student’s goals and dreams. These were all important information for the young lad, and all of these, along with the rest of the trial that was about to follow were needed in order to conclude if the recommended students were capable of forming a good team.

His first words ended up worrying her. Was he going to say 'how can I help you?' Was she at the wrong location? That could end up being troublesome if she was... she'd end up extremely late. Her fears were dissipated a moment later, however, when his words were amended, and she was told to sit down. Her eyes followed to where he'd gestured, and she simply nodded, pulling out the chair for herself and taking a seat. By the time she was paying attention again, the man had moved. Her mouth twitched slightly before she controlled herself. Sure, she was a generally outgoing person, she knew that. But awkward situations, or, at least ones she perceived to be so, tended to make her a bit nervous. Settling her hands in her lap, she looked up at him, her head tipping to the side in a show of curiosity before he spoke.

"I am. Nice to meet you as well," she replied simply to his question, nodding her head. She didn't see a reason to say more, and obviously he had more to say in this situation than she would. She clasped her hands together now, the fingers settling among each other loosely. Finding this more comfortable than just leaving her hands in her lap, Reiko left them that way. And so he did, though his words at this juncture confused her. Grooming? All she'd done was take her hair out of a ponytail... resisting the urge to smile or laugh at that, she simply nodded in consent, glancing over at his hand when he moved to get the paper. Evidently, she was supposed to fill the paper out.

Curious now, Reiko nodded and picked up the pencil, balancing it carefully in her hand before looking down at the paper. The first few lines were easy. Hyuga, Reiko, the address of her home on the Hyuga lands, Raiton, Fuuton, Taijutustu, with Juuken as a main sort, and Ninjutsu as her secondary. Then it got more difficult. Her personality? She wasn't really sure. She got angry easily, she knew that. And she liked talking to people, and being around people. Those counted as personality points, right? She guessed so... she wrote that down, her pencil moving easily across the paper. Hobbies... training.... walking? She likes to walk, sort of. It was nice to see all the stuff that nature was doing. Then came to goals and dreams, and she figited slightly in her seat, sitting up a bit before leaning over the paper again. Reiko knew what she wanted. She wanted the prove herself. She wanted to prove that she wasn't that weak little girl people thought was going to die anymore. But she didn't to write anything that seemed to draw sympathy, nor anything that made her seem as if she was weak. Frowning, the young Hyuga tipped the pencil against her mouth, deep in thought. In the end, she wrote what she figured was the best way to describe it. 'To prove I am strong.' Simple, she thought, and sure, she'd be looked down upon for a simply dream, most likely, but whatever. She'd answered the question, hadn't she?

Reiko finished off the paper, and then set the pencil back down on the table, picking up the sheet with both hands and holding it out towards Tenzō. "Uchiha-sama?" she said, her voice careful. "I finished the paper."

Uchiha Tenzō

The Uchiha clan members were known for their analytical mind and ability to pay attention and acknowledge even the slightest details, as such, the girl did not really had a chance of escaping from the man’s sight. Tenzō began watching over and drawing all kind of conclusions in that head of his , even from the first moment that marked her arrival at the table. Without a doubt, the answers that she was going to give in that piece of paper were important, but the raven-haired actually wanted to see how she was going to react during the whole trial. Body language was a hard thing to read and understand, since there was the possibility of interpreting the visual cues wrong; however, the man had a certain amount of expertise regarding this particular domain, after all, interrogations were something common at the Police Force.

Those ebony and dull eyes began to narrow once they’ve managed to catch a glimpse of that sudden twitch, although, that gesture alone wasn’t enough to conclude the observation, especially since the lady chose to speak afterwards. From his angle, it was a bit hard to see how Reiko had entangled those fingers between each other, but the movement underneath the table was more than enough to point out that the girl was feeling a bit nervous about the whole situation; people do tend to become protective and hide inside their shell when they’ve stepped out of their so called comfort zone. Not many words came out between those lips of hers, but maybe, the Uchiha’s eyes were feasting too much on the girl before them; hesitation wasn’t present since she did not had any trouble when it came towards the written test.

Frowning and touching those lips with that pen was a gesture which indicated that the young girl was actually thinking about the questions before writing anything down, and with that gesture in mind, the Uchiha began wondering how truthful were the answers that she was giving. It did not take her long to wrap up those questions, and once those words came along to confirm that, those long and thin eyebrows that belonged to Tenzō began arching even further, indeed, the man was both pleased and impressed with the result. “Good work, Reiko. I wasn’t expecting you to finish up this quickly, without questioning anything on the way.” the man uttered on a calm tone before letting up those pale lips curl within a smile. “Also, feel free to call me Tenzō or whatever makes you feel more comfortable, since I believe that titles don’t really make you better than the rest.” he added while reaching out for the paper in order to read what the girl wrote down.

As soon as the paper was standing between those scrawny fingers, the Uchiha began walking around the table while reading every word that was added on that paper; this was probably the best time for Reiko to ask any kind of questions if she had any, but then again, the girl seemed to be quite smart due to the amount of time it took her to complete this paper. A minute or so later, the Uchiha halted abruptly before reading out loud “To prove I am strong.” on a rather curious tone. Without adding anything more on this matter, that paper of his dropped freely against the table, in just a few seconds the man grasped his own chair and slithered it against the rough ground, allowing small particles of dust to arise while bringing it closer towards Reiko.

Right after the chair was dragged along the table, the Uchiha did not hesitate even for a mere second before placing himself in a seated position at a distance that was less than meter from the young lady, him being located on her right side. “Usually, power or strength, is nothing more than an instrument for someone to get what they want, not really that much of a dream. Also, I need you to trust me on this thing Reiko, everything that we’re going to discuss is confidential, no one will hear anything from me. I am rather curious, what are you going to do with all that power once you get it?” the Uchiha asked while hoisting that left leg just to place it above the right one. With his hand now resting on that left kneecap, the man turned slightly towards the girl before fixating those eyes ebony eyes against Reiko’s white pair of words while expecting an answer from her behalf.

Once she had finished answering, the man would then ask the girl what were the things that she loved and hated before actually throwing the last question of this particular type of trial. “I must say that I’m quite impressed with everything so far, Reiko. Although, I have one more question in mind. What are you willing to do in order to fulfill your dreams and goals, how far do you think that you’re capable of going? Will you be ready to do anything that it takes?” the Uchiha asked on the same curious tone, letting those lips turn within a sly smirk at the end. Indeed, the man was not really interested in finding out how powerful where his own students; determination was something more valuable and important than being able to throw a knife or a swing a sword, at least this was the way the man valued things.

"Yes, Tenzo-san," she said carefully, hoping she'd said the right sort of name this time around. His hand caught hols of the paper, and she automatically released it, relinquishing the item to him. Her hands, afterwards, moved back to her lap, clasping themselves together. Ever since she was little, she'd always held her hands together when worried. Her father had always pointed it out to her, add if hiking she would get rid of it, but she never had. At this point, she just accepted it as a social tick of hers, considering it stuck to her being like glue. Her mind turned back to the paper add he began to read it, his eyes skimming quickly across the pages. Would he reject it and send it back to the Academy? She didn't want to go back, she was already a lot older than the others as it was, and she didn't want to be a Genin forever! Her parents would end up trapping her at home if they thought that her health was keeping her behind other students. It had been hard enough to get them to let her go to the Academy in the first place. She knew she was healthy now, but they seemed unable to accept it.

Back when she had first attempted to go to the academy, at fifteen, her whole family had protested, as well as a good bit of the clan. "You're too weak," they would tell her. "You should just rest," "Let us take care of you," "You might get sick again." At that point, she had been healthy for a year, but they didn't seem to take that as a reason to care. To them, if she'd gotten sick once, who was to say she couldn't, and wouldn't, again? She knew that, one day, she might get sick again, but back then, and now, she was healthy. A medical ninja had even told her that what she had was nothing that could be affected by the life of a shinobi. If it came back, it came back. Nothing to stop or hinder it. Even so, again and again, they'd told her no, to the point that she had gone and enrolled herself. Of course, even before the day she started, the arguments continued endlessly. It wasn't until the day before that her mother gave in. And when she gave in, everybody else had no choice but to follow. Nobody argues with her. It was unspoken knowledge among the clan. And so, Reiko had been reluctantly admitted. Of course, at that point, she was fifteen, while many of the others were much younger than her. So she'd thrown herself into her studies. For two years, she was only home during mealtimes and when she was sleeping. Otherwise, she was practicing or learning at the Academy. Of course, it payed off. She graduated within two years. Which was why she was so desperate not to get sent back now. It would all be for nothing.

Stuck in her thoughts, she jumped when the man suddenly read a sentence of what she wrote, looking at him in curiosity. Had that been a bad answer? When somebody said it out loud, it sounded a lot worse than it had in her head. He seemed to have been only speaking to himself, however, considering he set the paper down right after and sat down. She was proven wrong, however, when he fixed his gaze on her and continued speaking. What would she do once she got it...? "Protect Konoha, and my comrades," she said, tipping her head to the side. "And show that I'm not a weak child to be kept at home any longer." Hopefully that was a good enough answer for him. It was the truth, or as close as she could get without going into it more than she wanted to. It was bad enough the village people already saw her as that "poor sickly girl". She didn't want her possible teacher to either. It seemed to be a good enough answer for him, however, considering he just continued on with a few more questions, which she answered to the best of her ability. They were simpler, what she liked, disliked, and other such questions about her personality. It wasn't long until they reached the final question.

“I must say that I’m quite impressed with everything so far, Reiko. Although, I have one more question in mind. What are you willing to do in order to fulfill your dreams and goals, how far do you think that you’re capable of going? Will you be ready to do anything that it takes?” he replied, and Reiko was forced to pause momentarily to think. How far was she willing to go? "I think," she said carefully, figuring that thinking allowed would probably help her come to her answer more easily, "That I would go quite far. Killing, of course, would depend on the situation, as it often does, but I personally would only kill if it was a question of being killed, and having to die without realizing those dreams. I think though, that if I work hard, and keep working hard every day, without fail, I can one day achieve what I want to." That seemed to be the answer she came to. She didn't find it wrong, in fact, she felt she was able to answer completely truthfully, which made her happy. Sometimes, if she panicked enough, she tended to just blurt things out, which usually ended badly, considering they were words that weren't well thought-out. Tenzo seemed to find it correct, as well, thankfully. She wasn't rejected. She wasn't sent back to the Academy. For now, at least.

In the end, Reiko was accepted. Though she still had some things to complete before becoming a full student of Tenzo's, she was now well on her way to being a full Genin and shinobi.
