Ukiyo

Ukiyo

Dead
Spoiler:

Ukiyo had just recovered from the last of her treatments, and was due back for a mission already. She had only returned home to her woods for a few days, before the silly looking pigeon arrived with a message,

"Morning commander. Ukiyo grinned and rustled the "well-trained" animal's feathers. His neck is turning. He seemed to enjoy it. Ukiyo's eyes closed as she leaned in and her instinctive laughter widened her smile. She had slipped off the tightly rolled up letter it was carrying while petting the bird. "There ya go admiral." The bird lifted off the branch lightly, almost reluctantly, and flew back towards the village. Ukiyo stared at the rolled up piece of paper pensively, What to do with you... Ukiyo smiled. Fiber. I could eat you. She licked her lips. There'd be no trace of you at all. "What do you mean mission? I never got a letter or anything!" It'd be the perfect crime. Her expression dropped into a sigh. She lifted her head up reluctantly, yet joyfully, as she refocused on the paper. She unrolled it, shaking it out once the clip was off, and read the note's contents.

Ukiyo, please come into the Hokage's office immediately. Ukiyo raised an eyebrow. They usually say what they're about at least. "Hm." She headed towards the village as soon as she stood up.

After entering the village, Ukiyo jumped up to the rooftop level, where the buildings were close enough to reach by jumping. She was used to far larger gaps and while balancing on branches, so this would be effortless. Ukiyo didn't want to spend anymore time in the village than she had to. To her, these were slightly foreign lands. She always felt that the woods were far more familiar. While running along the rooftops, Ukiyo saw dark smoke rising from where several clan building were. She paused for a moment, knowing there was a fire.

...

...

...

Her mind was blank. Ukio didn't know what it was. Fear? Something else? She was lost, completely out of control of her body. She just stood there...staring. Fire. Ukiyo's hands and legs began shaking a little, and she felt a faint, sharp pain in her ankles. She felt like kneeling, wanting to be off her ankles. It wasn't even the pain, just the...feeling. She couldn't place it. It was almost like fear, but different. Ukiyo knew what it was; hatred. Those who killed her parents. Those who sentenced them to death. That which kills. Fire. Suddenly, her head twitched, shaking her vision. She forgot what she was thinking and was brought back to her immediate sense. Ukiyo looked around her; she saw the rooftops, the sky, the sun, the mountain, and the smoke. She immediately took off in the direction of the smoke.

Matsu held his hands up as authorities questioned him. Guys... Come on, you've gotta believe me! I didn't do it! It was that Sarutobi kid, I told him not to touch the matches, but he just wasn't interested in listening to me! The police officers sighed, not really believing him at all. They agreed reluctantly, but it was clear that they didn't believe Matsu's joking face. Overhead, a bird could be seen circling.

Man this better not be my unlucky day... This bird is either bringing me something great, or it's gonna sh--. At that very moment, the bird would drop down, pecking Matsu on the head several times with a small scroll wrapped around its twiggy little ankle. How could this day get any worse. What could this possibly be! Reading the tiny scroll, a face of pure annoyance would stretch over his face.

Matsumura! There's a fire! Put it out! The boy read in his mind, looking at the tiny scroll. I know there's a god damn fire! I'm standing right in front of it you damn idiots! Nevertheless, this was proof enough that he hadn't caused this catastrophe. This was at fault of someone else and by showing this message to the authorities, he'd get off scott-free! Matsu wasn't exactly interested in putting out a fire, considering his severe lack of suiton, but it was better than going to jail over something he wasn't even involved with.

He showed the scroll to the police force who, instead of deciding to lend a helping hand, took the option of saying, Hey screw you Matsu, you handle it! Matsu, pressing his face into his hands would for a split second, just stare at the raging fire with absolutely no way to put it out. With a sigh, he'd press his hands together within the sleeves of his robe. It was time for some serious thinking. It occurred to him only seconds later that the boy who started the fire was probably still inside of the compound.

I'm gonna do something stupid aren't I? He'd dart into the compound, yelling out for the boy as he searched from corridor to corridor. Covering his mouth with his hand, he realized he had very little time to actually find the boy. He needed to move quick to ensure that the child would be found alive. Also, the smoke from the fire could potentially kill Matsu himself as well.

By looking at the charred walls, Matsu was able to deduct from which direction the fire had started and from where the great fireball jutsu had been launched. Using this method, Matsu managed to find the little boy, curled up in a closet in an attempt to escape the flames which had engulfed the outer area of the building. Covering the boy's mouth, Matsu would rush for the nearest window, leaping with great haste from the floor he was on, to the ground floor beneath. That was the least he could do for this situation. The rest of the work had to be dealt with by someone more suited, but at least he had saved a life.

Looking down at the boy, Matsu noticed that he had been knocked unconscious by the lack of oxygen and the high concentration of smoke. Laying him on the ground on his back, Matsu would focus, then strike the boy once in the chest with his open palm before pressing his palms back together in his sleeves. A second or two passed before a coughing would come from the small child, ensuring that he was indeed still alive. That actually works? I saw that in a magazine somewhere... Well better I figured out it did than figuring out it didn't right now...

Mitsuo

Mitsuo had just gotten back from another exhausting day of training. Ever since he had gotten back from the Chuunin Exams, his routine had become much more intense and his training had really taken up a lot of his time. He felt bad because he believed that he had been neglecting his friends, such as Ukiyo, and he had also been neglecting his “mate” as master Shisso had called him, Hyuuga, Kimaru. The two had trained together usually once a day but other than that and the evenings, Mitsuo never saw his lover, and he knew it was as hard on Kima-chan as it was on him. He resolved to make tonight special, grabbing some flowers and smiling softly as he made his way back to his compound.

It was weird to think of the Sarutobi Compound as his, but that’s exactly what it was now. He was the Head of the Sarutobi Clan after the passing of his father to that bastard Tatsumaru’s attempt at a rescue. He shook his head when he thought of it, instead focusing on the roses in his hand. They were truly beautiful and as he reached even closer to being home at his compound he gave them a deep smell. As soon as he had smelled the roses, he noticed something was wrong. They didn’t smell like roses at all. They smelled like… was that smoke?

Smoke…

Burning…

Katon…

Something was burning! He looked around to try to track the source of the burning, looking up and down the street and he was horrified at his discovery. He noticed that his compound was on fire! There were flames licking everywhere at the ancient home of the Sarutobi Clan and he hadn’t heard a word from Kima-chan all day. He looked on in horror before deciding, as head of the clan, he should probably attempt to do something about the situation. He looked around and noticed that Ukiyo had also come to the compound, knowing that her water element would be able to hopefully help with the situation, though not knowing the extent of her abilities. He also saw a young genin he didn’t recognize rushing forward to help. Mitsuo would thank them both later, but for now he needed to get in there and save Kimaru.

He ran up to the compound and burst through the large double wooden doors at the entrance, going into the scorching hot building and making his way into the first room he could find, the room of some of the younger members of the Sarutobi clan. He noticed that there were two in here, both of them crying in the corner and apparently trapped behind a support beam. Mitsuo ran over and used all of his strength to move the beam, part of the roof above collapsing as he did so but not quick enough to stop him from scooping up the children and running them outside. He ran with the two children, one over either shoulder, until he made it to the edge of the compound, where he knew they would be safe from the fire. He set them down and ran in once again.

Don’t worry Kima-chan, I will find you, and I’ll get you out of there!

Dead
As Ukiyo approached the smoke, she could see that it was a medium sized fire over the Sarutobi Clan's compound. Mitsuo. Her pace quickened as more of the scene came into sight. It's spreading somewhat quickly, but it should still be small enough to work. She made two hand signs, Hare-Monkey, and continued observing as things came into sight. Then again, fire. My seeds will be burnt to a crisp without even touching the ground if I throw them. I have to go in and bury them. But I can't be in two places at once, and by the time I buried both of them, the fire would have spread and be too big. Shit. She then began to see individuals outside the range of the fire, spread out in the pathways and watching the fire. Among them she spotted Mitsuo. "Mitsuo!!" Ukiyo yelled as she bent down and picked up two rocks while running. She threw one of them over to Mitsuo. I'm still too far to get to the other spot in time. She scoped out someone she could get the attention of on the opposite side of the crowd. Ukiyo saw a boy kneeling over someone else with red hair beneath a fedora.  "Hey ginger get off your boyfriend!" It was a bit harsh, but Ukiyo wasn't interested in pleasantries. She knew it would be the quickest way to grab his attention as she threw the other rock over to him. When he (hopefully) catches it, Ukiyo yells out to the two of them,

"Bury that in the center of the left half of the fire. Mitsuo, bury yours on the right. Place them a few meters from burning buildings! Quick! Ukiyo straightened her arm forward as she ran, symbolizing the divide for "right" and "left". When she was within range, Ukiyo sprang forward and catches herself on one knee and one foot with her palms flattened against the ground. She began gathering her chakra, melding water with earth in her palms.

Boyfriend? Matsu sat in a stupor for a quick second as the thought rang through his head. Hey wait a minute, its Matsu you dumb broa-- His sentence was cut off as a rock came barreling towards him. Quickly removing his hands from his sleeves and catching the rock mid-flight. That throw had a little bit of power behind it. Huh... Keeping his perverted thoughts to himself about the girl, he'd do as she asked planting the rock-seed-thing near the fire at the designated, but obnoxiously vague, location.

He then jumped backwards, placing a hand on the scroll which sat across his lower back. If things got crazy, he could just figure out a way out. He couldn't say the same about protecting the building though. Of course, considering the situation, protecting the building wasn't his priority anyway as much as assuring the children were protected.

Matsu noticed an older-looking man had assisted in handling the fire situation and walked over to him, holding his hand out to shake. Matsumura Hashikawa. You must be this Mitsuo. Nice name... The joke about the similar names was rather dry, but then again, Matsu was never known for having good jokes. I assume you two know each other? Sure he was starting a conversation about the girl, but it wasn't so much because he was interested in her as much as he was interested in meeting people. Just friendly conversation. That aside, she was particularly interesting if for nothing more than her hair. She was the first person Matsu had ever seen to have green hair, whether dyed or natural and he was sure that at one point or another, he'd be asking if "the carpet matched the drapes." For now though, that wasn't particularly good etiquette for a first conversation.

Mitsuo looked as Ukiyo had thrown him a rock, her instructions being somewhat vague, though he got the gist of it. He went to the right edge of where the flames were burning and buried it in the ground, not stopping to talk to the young Uzumaki who was trying to make his acquaintance in the middle of a crisis. The name struck a bell with him though, noticing it from somewhere that he wasn’t quite sure where. He didn’t have time to think about that at the moment though, his house was on fire and his boyfriend was inside. He was doing all he could at this point to stay calm. He decided it was time to try to figure out a better way to go about this and walked up to some of the flames nearby, making a few hand signs and then suddenly making a pair of clones out of the fire that looked identical to him. The three of them knew exactly what to do as they made their way into the compound.

The first clone of Mitsuo made its way down the stairs of the compound, looking to see if there was anyone in the basement. He knew that there were sometimes people training down here and he was sure that it would be an ideal place to look. He managed to find a couple of Genin in the basement who looked to be in pretty rough shape, though neither of them were passed out, which was good. He led the two of them back up the stairs and to the doorway, making sure that there was no way they could get left behind and that no debris would fall on them.

The second clone had ran to begin filling buckets of water from a nearby well, making sure to get as many buckets as he possibly could and distributing them to the people around him who had come to see what the commotion was about. He was directing traffic, trying to get people to do what they could to douse the flames, though ultimately knowing that it wouldn’t be enough. He was just hoping he could buy enough time for the real Mitsuo to find Kimaru and for Ukiyo to do whatever it was that she was planning.

The real Mitsuo had made a b-line directly towards his chambers. He wasn’t sure if Kimaru would be in there or not but he had assumed that would be a good place to look for him. He searched the room up and down for the Byakugan user, but to no avail until he heard yelling from the bathroom. He ran in to investigate, noticing that there was water running under the doors. He burst down the door and found Kimaru, drenched in the tub wearing his soaking wet training robes, and shaking. Mitsuo scooped Kimaru into his arms and looked for the nearest exit, spotting a nearby window. He jumped through the window with Kimaru in his arms, landing on the ground with a thud and then rolling on top of Kimaru, smiling softly as the white eyes looked up into his emerald green ones. He gave Kimaru a soft kiss and held him tight. “I was so worried about you Kima-chan…Ooh! I got you some flowers…” it didn’t take him long to figure out what had happened to the flowers, having burnt up when he had first entered the house. “Sadly they didn’t survive the fire… Let me get you to Ukiyo, we’ll see if she can help us out.” Mitsuo then scooped Kimaru back up into his arms, and ran with him towards Ukiyo and the Uzumaki boy.

Ukiyo, with her palms on the ground, was looking up at the two of them follow her instructions. The two of them quickly found a spot to bury the rock and they appeared to be out of the way. The seeds were not exactly where she had pictured them, but that didn't matter, they were well within range. She took one last deep breath in, filling her lungs with as much oxygen as possible, then pushed a wave of chakra down through her palms. The earth proved to be an excellent medium for transmitting the chakra. It surged through the ground and activated one seed from each rock.  "TREES!" From each spot the rocks were buried grew a large camel thorn tree. She had seen them in Suna during the Chuunin exams. It's perfect for this situation; the brush will be overhead, and it won't have any middle or lower foliage to catch on fire. Not to mention it's natural heat resistance from growing in the desert. As the trees emerged from the ground, Ukiyo channeled Suiton chakra to them as well to make the trees soaking wet and soggy. By the time each 30 meter-tall tree had fully grown and spread its canopy, they were showering water down on the flames, extinguishing them in a matter of seconds. Ukiyo pants heavily, sweat dripping from her brow. She swallows, then almost coughs as she begins panting again. She goes down onto both knees and catches her breath.

Ukiyo had sat back onto her heels and was breathing at a steady pace when Mitsuo approached her accompanied by a small boy. She had been "meditating" (sleeping) when the sound of something nearing woke her up. She knew who it was. "Oy, Mitsuo." Ukiyo was smiling gently with her eyes closed, still kind of tired.

Rejected... Thought Matsu with a smile on his face. Shrugging it off, he'd remove his massive scroll from his lower back, sitting it upright and sitting on it. Mitsuo had gone and saved a loved-one from the flames, which was good. However, it did leave Matsu in a sort of situation concerning why exactly the mission was given to him in the first damn place.

Regardless, he managed to save a single life, that means the mission wasn't a complete and total waste of time. Nodding his head twice, he'd press his palms together, allowing them to be hidden with in his sleeves. He'd need a good cup of tea after this. It wasn't long before he noticed the girl had sat somewhat close to him panting. Matsu would've said something, if he actually had anything to say, though it was fine, she ended up breaking the silence by addressing the other guy. Looking at the charred remains of the building, Matsu would whistle, commenting on the situation, Whew... That sure was an ordeal. Glad you guys showed up to figure this out. I'm not exactly capable of handling fires on my own. Call me cold blooded if ya will. A smile stretched across his face.

Considering how I'd butchered the last attempt, let me just go ahead and introduce myself. I'm Matsumura. It's nice to meet you two. Standing and re-attaching the scroll to his lower back via sash, Matsu would press his hands together again and walk towards the group.
