Clan History: To say that a golem is at all of this world would be completely ignorant. They exist in the same way that an idea does, a creation formulated by the experiences of another. While it is true that they can exist in the physical world; touch and feel the heat of their blood, strike it and feel the wetness of their tears, when it comes down to it, they're simply not there. An extension of a human given life of its own, they're constantly living in the shadow of a being in many ways simpler than themselves, yet possessing the one thing they can never fundamentally obtain - a living soul. That is to say that a Golem will never be able to full comprehend the emotional spectrum, try as they may. They're beings of both logic and emotion, two conflicting forces which act against one another. While a golem may either be completely detached from their emotions, they may also embrace them fully. Some viewing a lack of emotions as commendable, a state to strive towards in order to become complete, others will enjoy their excessive capabilities for joy, sorrow and everything that comes in between. The only factor that a Golem will never be able to fully understand is empathy, a programmed inability to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others. One of the original traits of their programming which has continued to this day and thus, their biggest flaw. Given their limitless lifespan, the Golems have grown bored and corrupt. The needlessness of procreation has rendered the men impotent and meditation has replaced sleep. Others fall into catatonia, forming the social stratum the Golems have named the "Apathetics".
The word golem is mentioned once in the history of this race, however today it’s often translated as “embryo.” Golem itself means “unformed”; it’s the hyle of the ancients, the chaotic, inchoate state of matter before it is given form by the Creator. Despite this, as a collective they've been completely unable to create a term to define their species, thus, they're labeled with the misinformed title of Golem. The creator, Adam is described as a kind of cosmic golem, an immense being whose body is as large as the universe and who can see the entire history of the world, its past and future
This description would lead into the common belief among Golem's that the universe itself is a kind of man, Adam, and that each of us is a microcosm, a universe in miniature: the universe is a Great Man, and we are all little universes. There is a story that when the Creator was creating artificial life, he had the knowledge of how to form the perfect being but left him unfinished, in a Golem state, fearing that if he completed him the artificial life himself might get the credit for the work (which implies something about the character of the Creator). One symbolic interpretation of this story, which has been the driving force behind many Golem's ambitions and goals, namely the desire to become human, is that we all are golems until the breath of the divine enters us. We are all unfinished, incomplete, until regenerated.
While the true nature of Adam, the Creator is largely unknown, the methods behind his work is not. While some believe that he was nothing more than a man, as logic would dictate, others believe he exists in the center of the universe, a universe of his own creation. The origin's of the Golem have as much in common as a modern day one as the average human does with its most distant ancestor. The first Golem was made of clay or soil. He was molded into human form, and then the mystical name of God, the Tetragrammaton, JHVH, is written on a piece of paper and placed on his mouth. The motif of a magical word or name shows the importance of writing and language in the Golem's artificial life. The interplay of words, their rearrangement into other words, and their numerical values all play an important role in understanding the secret laws behind creation, something that has evolved throughout all states of artificial life, a connection which breathes life into the lifeless but also denies them the access to a living soul, only granting a pseudo soul of interpretation and passed down knowledge. A hulking mass of Earth, the initial Golem, subject A was granted a body immature and a mind that could function only in logic, yet despite this a spark of creativity was placed there. Superior ability breeds superior ambition, thus unsatisfied with the immortal lumbering life given to it, subject A took evolution into its own hands, striving to become as the creatures around it are, to become human. A collection of passed down knowledge, each variation of the Golem became less simple, going from Earth to the formation of life, a self evolving species aiming to become equal to man. It was because of this that they eventually became more human than human, a race capable of intense creativity and emotional responses. It was this spark that created a separation within the species. Confronted with the ability to choose, some decided to continue down their path while others sought to return to a pure state, considering the absence of emotion to be as close to God as one could get. Ultimately, this was when Golem's shifted from being artificial life to life itself.
"If the sperma, enclosed in a hermetically sealed glass, is buried in horse manure for forty days, and properly magnetized, it begins to live and move. After such a time it bears the form and resemblance of a human being, but it will be transparent and without a body. If it is now artificially fed with the Arcanum sanguinis hominis until it is about forty weeks old, and if allowed to remain during that time in horse manure in a continually equal temperature, it will grow into a human child, with all its members developed like any other child, such as could be born by a woman; only it will be completely unaware. We call such a being a Golem, and it may be left until a satisfactory age is obtained where markings of JHVH and EMETH are inscribed unto it, granting reason and intellect, and is able to take care of itself." - An ancient form of Golem reproduction, as described in their passed down records of knowledge.
While in the past utilized as slaves for manual labor, like a modern day machine, it has since been passed that a Golem is sentient being, thus maintaining the rights and privileges that any man deserves. This, however, is all ancient knowledge. Today, Golem's are considered as little more than a peculiar looking race of people who follow an obsolete religion, their practices wrapped in too much secrecy for any truth of their history to escape to the common mind. In a sense, a sign that their goal as somewhat been achieved as they assimilate within modern society, there are still traits which will always cast them as an outcast.
While almost identical to a normal human physically, the chance of a mutation in creation is substantially higher than that of a normal human birth, to the extent that it would be difficult to find a single Golem without some form of physical tell. As a standard across all Golem's are the letters JHVH and EMETH inscribed into the hard palate and the frontal eminence respectively. As a cultural standard, names are usually a combination of their model letter and the amount of generations between oneself and the original. Thus, the original Q model would simply be named Q, its first offspring would be Q2, ect. Furthermore, if the initial Q was to create more than a single offspring, the second would be named Q22, followed by Q23, ect. Despite this, many Golem's formulate names of their own, only using their proper name when interacting with another Golem.
Members: Model types A-L are all considered extinct, each being crafted before the introduction of EMETH are to be considered obsolete, thus destroyed.
Personality: Golem's as a whole are a complicated bunch. Across the generations you have various forms of humanity, some seeming almost identical to another person with others appearing as if they couldn't be more different. A being without emotion or one who laughs the hardest and cries the loudest, there is little definition to their actions. A few things do tend to be standard across all Golem's, the first being the inability to feel empathy. A race who can be replaced by a superior model in a second, they consider anything obsolete to be a burden and thus removed, even if it is themselves who are the burden. There are many cases in history of Golem's whom became paralyzed or otherwise disabled and quickly took their own life, believing that the progress of the collective be more important then the survival of a dysfunctional program. Early on in production, this trait was so rampant that on receiving even the smallest abrasion, a Golem would immediately seek to end its own life. It is through this that they have a heavy focus on sacrifice, having little moral objections to sending in five to die to kill six.
Many Golem have one of two goals, becoming identical to Adam, the Creators first and most pure being, or to become human with a full control over the emotional spectrum. Attempting to live by logic and reason with no interference from emotion causes Golem's as a whole to become a rarity in the world, bringing a sense of prejudice over their emotional brothers.
Golem's were also known for their high degree of honesty. They were extremely reluctant to tell a lie, and indeed it was said that "Golem's could not lie". However, they would do so for what they perceived as logical reasons, though they rarely referred to their dishonesty as "lying." Contrary to stereotype, all Golems possess emotions; indeed, Golem emotions are far more intense, violent, and passionate than those of many other species, including even Humans. The essence of their logical society was in arriving at the truth through logical process. Emotions were illogical, thus making them impure, and deterrent to truth.
Despite this, it's quite possible for Golem's personalities and beliefs across each individual to vary as much as any human could. Claiming that just because one is a Golem they must be a logic driven creature or one who seeks to become human would be extremely ignorant.
Physiology: A species prone to mutation, it's unclear on what exactly a pure Golem would look like, however based on repeated trends one is able to conclude the differences between an un-mutated Golem and a human being.
The first thing of note would be the yellow tinged skin, a result of their color of their blood. Golem blood is rust-colored when deoxygenated in the veins and green when oxygenated in the arteries. Bruises and abrasions take on a bright orange color. Multiple other differences occur within the body of the In contrast to their external similarities, Golem internal anatomy differed radically from that of Humans. For instance, their hearts are where a Human's liver would normally be, and beat several hundred times per minute. They also had no appendix and a much smaller digestive system.
In contrast to modern computers which function better in a cold climate, Golem's tend to prefer the hot air of desert regions. A result of this is a large population being found in Sunagakure. This is assisted by their ability to go without thirst for up to two days, however doing so has the tendency of making one extremely cranky.
The Golem brain is one of the biggest mysteries in modern day science. It's said that technology could evolve several hundred decades if the secret could be cracked. Described as "a puzzle, wrapped inside an enigma, housed inside a cranium" Golems learned to gain conscious control of many of their bodily functions, allowing them to regulate their bodies to a high degree by simple will power. Thus allowing one to become disconnected from pain or their own senses through concentration. When injured a Golem could go into a trance-like state, using this ability to concentrate all of his or her energy onto repairing the injury. This trance, called Kal'beth could be self-induced and gave the physical appearance of near-death. It was similar, in principle, to neuro-pressure techniques which could be used to relax the mind and body. This trait, however, is less efficient in more emotional Golems.
Kekkei Genkai Name: Mechanical Form
Kekkei Genkai Description:
Name: Al'bed
Requirements: Golem
Description: Masters of the mental, be it from a logical or emotional standpoint, Golem's have a tendency to control the brain with ease. Because of this the chakra cost to dispel a Genjutsu from an Golem is increased. This increase begins at 5 chakra, and gains an additional 5 per rank above E, causing it to max out at 35 at SS rank.
Name: Tasukeru
Requirements: Golem
Description: Grafted with a body of their own design, a Golem is able to manipulate their form with ease. Being able to enter a near-death state through willpower, or to disconnect their own emotions. It's only natural that through this control that they're able to highly manipulate the sounds and vibrations that are emanated through their movement. Through the sound and vibrations that come from their body, they're able to cast touch and sound Genjutsu sealessly if the target is within 5 feet of the body as it moves or within 10 feet of where a Golem strikes a blow. These vibrations and sound waves move at the maximum speed for a jutsu of their rank, minus three for each rank above E.
Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Mutations are the core of Golem's evolution, a species half developed by logic and half by unpredictability, their bodies often pay the price. Through this limit, one is able to take a physical trait from the list below. A second and third physical trait can be picked, however that would require one to forego Tasukeru and Al'bed to do so, meaning in total one can still only have three limits from their Kekkei Genkai.
- Options:
- Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Some bone thing that's used defensively. maybe extending the distance between himself and others as they move towards them, adding a bubble in space or something similar - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: sweaty golems who excrete mist, used to activate smell and taste gen seallessly. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Some ijutsu one, fucked if I know right now. infecting others body parts, perhaps. inducing cell death, or perhaps converting living tissue into cybo-tissue. sounds like a 70's b-movie. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Clear bodys, leaving only their bones visible, looking like they're made of glass and bone. Light moving through their clear body can be used to activated sight gen seallessly via subliminal messages or some shit - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Brainy fuckers. Something about anti-gen or maybe some unique form of gen. hypnotic suggestion sounds cool but dunno how decent it could be based on the no possession rules. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: generic stat boost one for people who don't like fun and wanna jerk off to numbers. maybe a rage system, excessive emotions in the aggressive field leading to temporary stat benefits while also forcing them to attack w/e's close. actually sounds cool now, oh well. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Robot parts! can implant puppetry items into their body, replacing legs, organs, ect. 2 slots at base plus on per level above e? - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Nanomachine blood? manipulatable blood, capable of eating away like tiny pirhana. perhaps something where they consider themselves to be a collective. could give a custom jutsu when i get around to those for assimilating a foe on like 5% total chakra or less, giving some long term benefit. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Superior human. a bunch of general benefits which make them better than a normal human. NOT STAT BUFFS IDIOT. poison resistance, better senses, durability, healing factor, ect, ect. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: AoE slowing field around them. Would be a good defensive but it's basically identical to the bone one I had in mind, perhaps change that to something more direct to fix issue? make it so they have a larger skull then normal + bald? make it telekinetic somehow. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description:capable of consuming anything, teeth capable of biting through anything and a digestive system capable of processing anything? obvs not eating jutsu like fireballs and shit like that. maybe a giant mouth in their stomach which lets them bend over fully when open, think super limbo champions. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description:four arms, six in total, one above and below. is there a jutsu that does this? i think there is. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description:stringless puppets, make them politically focused, superior ambition. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: It's a sex-bot. super charisma + flexibility = reflexes? maybe cheaper ryo prices even if it's super fucking lame, i can't think of a better alternative right now, but as is no one will pick this. REVISIT ME - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description:Glowing golem. radioactive if it's not banned. maybe a passive chakra burn in an aoe. technically not a drain, but dunno how well it would pass. kinda useless in comparison to just spamming gen unless burn is relatively high. try for 10 per post, probably be nerfed to 5 if not outright rejected. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: no vital organs, liquid body, like the terminator from T2. allow them to change their form based on same size as their original, must conserve total mass, or is it density? dunno how balanced being liquid flesh is when a lot of people focus around cutting, add weakness to this or it's stupid. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description:Another telekinetic one. this time a barrier around the user, destroying super weak jutsu that pass it and lowering the strength of others by 1 rank. might not get through, alternative options? ... - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: Straight fucked. Think organ expulsion like that shit in Akira when he went all giant baby mode and fired his disgusting arm. dunno how to describe this or what use it would have. maybe make them a parasite? similar to nano+ijutsu one that way. perhaps acidic = to users rank -1?? - Name: Voight
Requirements: Golem, Model must be before V.
Description: Less of a mutation and more of a disease which has jumped from Golem to Golem. An outstandingly large amount of tachyon's within the cerebral cortex grants the victim an appearance of a heavily mutilated eye. Be it recessed to a miniature size, or expanded and swollen to the point where it dangles from the socket, it rarely matters. The point is that it is indistinguishably deformed. Believed to be blind in one eye, 40% of the victims gain a unique side effect. While their eye is unable to see in the present, it's perfectly capable of viewing exactly one second into the future. While such a short distance is useless for most situations, it shines when it comes to split-second decision making. - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description: For a species who focus on ignoring emotion completely, they have a nasty tendency to understand it better than anyone else. Capable of perceiving even the most minute details about another, be it the slight involuntary dilation of the pupil, or the flushing of the cheeks. One with this limit is always able to tell the emotional state of someone they can see, smell, or hear, to the extent where they're able to determine if they have hostile intent, wish to leave, or are with holding information. To the general world, they're often regarded as empath's, making them highly prized in diplomatic situations. Visually they can be identified via their eyes which glow at certain angles when exposed to light, as if they had a tapetum lucidum, similar to a cat or dog. "His subtle facial twitches wouldn't have been noticed by the layman but to me, he might as well have been sobbing." - Name: Altered Form
Requirements: Golem
Description:
NEED MORE SUBTLE PHYSICAL CHANGES, IDIOT
- Name: Altered Form
Drawbacks:
Name: Shallow Pool
Requirements: Golem
Description:While their chakra is extremely specialized, this was not done without a cost. Golems suffer a +10% to the cost of all non-Genjutsu techniques.
Name: Symbol of God
Requirements: Golem
Description: The same signs which grant them life are also key to their destruction. If one was to strike out the initial 'e' in emeth, meaning truth, they would leave the Golem with the word meth inscribed into their skull, meaning death. Doing so would result in the death of the subject. Furthermore, a dead Golem can be identified by the lack of the initial 'e' in their inscription. However, by re-adding this 'e' a Golem is able to return to life, assuming their body currently has no fatal injuries.
Name: Ill Minded
Requirements: Golem
Description:Due to the clans focus on Genjutsu, they tend to lack in other areas, because of this they must take Hesitant (element) and Late Start (Secondary Element), as two of their disadvantages.
- Spoiler:
- Late Start (Secondary Element)
The user, for whatever reason, has started their formal shinobi training later than most have, and as such, have not been able to train up their secondary element to the same degree that someone else would have. They start with their secondary element at -1 Rank. (Can't be used by people who have their secondary element starting at D rank for whatever reason. This is a clan drawback and cannot be counterbalanced.)
Hesitant (Element)
This person has a comfort zone that he/she doesn't like to venture out of. Learning a new field of techniques can be scary, and this ninja puts it off, or ignores it entirely. This individual cannot have a fourth element, and can only learn their tertiary element at Jounin rank. (This is a clan drawback and cannot be counterbalanced.)
