Sakamoto

'It was strange...‘
As much as Sakamoto would never admit it, loosing wasn't so bad, he felt good about himself at the moment. Having been able to leave his confinement 'legally' for the first time in a long time he would finally be able to gorge himself on the local cuisine at his favorite hangouts. The fishmarket was open for season and he'd just been paid! Many of the store clerks there had seen him in the exams, while doing so they had used the image of Sakamoto to promote their businiesses while the celebrity was still high in the community. After he lost, that had simmered down to a halt, few would likely recall the specific black cat that competed at a level which exceeded many humans, but, few would remember the exact specifics of sakamoto other that 'there was once a cat that got to the semifinals.' Konoha was a bastian of life, and as such, animals often plagued the back alleys as well as the surrounding forests of the most hospitable ninja nation in the known world.
It took a night of drunken partying around a campfire on a not so known city street. The flickering flames peeking at the top of the repurposed barrel that the neighbourhood cats accumulated around as Sake and Fish were sponsored by the semi-finalist while he would sit in a corner... not enjoying the company, but it serving as a sort of white noise that would attempt to stop him from thinking so actively. His mind was racing at a million miles an hour since he had gotten out of the Exams, namely, totally indecisive of where to go from now. There was callsign 'Songbird,' who had reached out to him once before, and that had been an enjoyable experience. Sakamoto couldn't help but feel like he wanted to meet the intrepid scout again. There was a sort of pleasure in seeing the looks on the faces of his former criminal contacts when they realized that a former boss and client had not only gone turncoat, but also gone ninja.
'And so the night went on...'
As the party simmered down, many of the cats too drunk to walk, simply splumping into a sombre drunken slumber. Once again leaving Sakamoto to his thoughts, he would leap upon the wooden fence that cornered off the alley and make his way along it, looking up to the brilliant blue moon that would hang as a crescent in the night sky. The warm breeze of fire nation was a comfort, and the quiet of the streets even more so. The only thing that set it apart were the occasional quick whisps of things moving through the darkness, nothing more than a disturbance to the natural wind patterns as the most experienced of the nation's ninja were awake at night. Occasionally, Sakamoto thought he could see them, if they stopped for a moment before continuing... ebony clad figures with only the silver sheen of the Hitiate to identify them as anything other than agents of darkness.
Even now, while allied to the nation who employed them, the feeling of a boogyman creeping up behind him would sink in whenever he caught a whiff of the ANBU black ops in one form or another. The creatures of the night had haunted his dreams for an age when he was in the business. They knew it would only take a single one of these monsters to bring their entire operation down... just one. ANBU were like superweapons, there wasn't a week gone by when they would immediately loose touch of one of their comrades or contacts overnight without so much as a sound or whisper of a warning. It had become a fact of life, like lightning had simply struck them dead, and there was nothing else that could be done about it... Such was the nature of living in a world of ninja when you yourself weren't one. If only they weren't so secretive, perhaps Sakamoto wouldn't wake up in a cold sweat most nights he was here.
"I need to get out of this city, I wonder if someone i know outside the walls needs a house cat incogneto."
The thought was amusing, evoking an image of some old granny, lonely, protective, thinking that their new strey who they'd taken under their wing in an effort to reconnect to the life they once had when their children were in the house. Only to find out one day, or never to find out that the cat they had adopted was one of the countries great ninja superweapons in some kind of deep cover.
