Samuru
C-rank
The night sky was dark and clouded. The wind blew, but he felt it not. His hood was matted down to his head by the moisture of the waves. Samuru watched as the men loaded the wooden ship. A ship sailing for Mizu no Kuni. The ship was carrying various supplies that were meant for some merchant. They weren’t going directly into the village which would have to work for the time being. As long as he would get close enough it would have to do. The captain of the ship was nice enough to let him tag along, but not for free. He would assist in being protection for the crew against pirates or any unwelcome guest. Samuru wouldn’t turn down the offer it was generous and fair.
As he stood on the bow of the ship, he noticed some of the crew were talking among themselves. They seemed to glare occasionally at the captain. He remembered that look from his time being a pirate. They were definitely not up to any good. Though, he hoped that they wouldn’t be a problem. That was the last thing he needed was a mutiny while trying to make it to his destination. It was clear as day that he was a shinobi. His large battle axe strapped over his back at least gave him the look of a mercenary. Samuru was not to be toyed with in any way, shape, or form. He had one goal in mind and that was to get out of Hi no Kuni. The sooner the better. A storm was brewing. Nothing that seemed too serious, but it would make the ride a bit bumpy. It’s not like he could get seasick.
The sailors continued to dilly dally as he turned to his eyes to the ocean. Lightning streaked across the sky and the winds picked up. Most of the crewman and woman, had loaded up most of their freight. Samuru started to move along the deck and pretended that he didn’t hear the conversations. Some of the crew talked about getting drunk afterward or trying to swoon someone male and female alike. They were the typical sailors that would have made him feel nostalgic. Though, there were no emotions from him. Just a serious face with a dark tone. The sails were then lowered as the anchor was raised. The ship started to drift away from the docks of Hi no Kuni’s shores. Samuru looked at the busy docks then to the open ocean.
The voyage was slow and the ship rocked back and forth. It seemed to be all hands on deck. Samuru took a sip from a mug he snatched up from underneath the deck and filled it with brandy. He didn’t care who it belonged to he just took a sip as he watched some of the crew struggle to support the sails. The captain stood on the deck bellowing out orders to his crew. The wind picked up and slowed down constantly without remorse. Samuru took another sip from the mug. Drinking alcohol was pointless when you didn’t really experience the effects of it, but it was all that he could find. One had to stay hydrated in his own way.
Samuru smirked slightly as the crew finally got it together. The smirked wasn’t anything he did purposely. It was just a strange reaction that he did every now and then. A voice in the background said, “Land Ho!” They came up to a small dock in the distance. It took them a few days with the weather, but they finally made it. It was almost disappointing that a mutiny didn’t happen. Cracking heads would have been nice. It would also gave him something to do. As they landed on the shore of Mizu no Kuni, Samuru waved to the captain as he headed off onto a main road. He wondered what he would find in this new land. Maybe there was something that awaited for him here. It could be that he may finally find somewhere to fit in. Not that he really cared too much for fitting in. He was a literal numbskull that didn’t carry any emotion even if he wanted too.
