Clan History:
- Spoiler:
There once was a fisherman's daughter, struggling to survive in the turbulent time of Warring States. When her brothers left to fight in the many wars, she was left as the last child to care for her bedridden father.
The most beautiful maiden in the land, her siren song was so soothing that all the creatures of the earth succumbed to her voice. The waves would grow still, the spirits calm, the fish she was to catch leaping up into her boat just to hear her voice.
One day, the kami of storms, Susano-o, was soaring through the skies when he too fell to the daughter's song. Immediately, his heart became heavy with true love. Transforming into a Water Dragon, the kami found the girl fishing out at sea.
Deciding to test the girl, the kami created a mighty hurricane, thrusting the daughter into a perilous fight for her life! Pretending to be a drowning man, Susano-o was rescued by the girl, who risked her life to pull him aboard despite danger to life and limb. Upon offering the stranger all of her clothes to stay warm, the storm kami revealed himself in all of his glory before the meek fisherman's daughter.
Petrified in place, the daughter at first spurned the kami's advances, but ultimately fell for him and his words of love. Upon that boat, the two sired a child, imbued with part of the primal chakra that the kami wielded. Wishing to take the daughter to wife, Susano-o asked for her to wait five days and five nights without saying to any mortal who the father of their child was. On the final night, he would return for her and carry her to his palace in the sky to live amongst the kami.
Returning home, pregnant and alone, the daughter was reprimanded by her father for not bringing any fish home, bemoaning that they would all starve. All day and night, the father demanded to know who the unborn child's father was, yet, remembering Susano-o's words, the daughter did not say.
With the second day, the first brother came home from war, demanding to know who it was that had forced themselves upon his sister. Again, she would not say, remembering her promise. With the third day, the second brother returned. He was kind and gentle, using familial love to try and learn who the daughter's love was. Again, she would not say. With the fourth day, the final brother returned. He was cunning and devious, attempting to charm and beguile the daughter into saying the man's name. Again, she would not say.
Outraged, and demanding to discover the truth, the men of the family plotted on the final night. As the daughter went to sleep, her brothers placed her into a powerful genjutsu, showing her her lover returning to her. Unknowing that she was caught in an illusion, and that the real Susano-o was on his way, she ran to meet the imposter, "Oh, my beloved, I have waited so long for you. Your seed quickens within me, and I shall forever be yours, Susano-o of the storms".
With these words, a terrible thundercloud immediately appeared high above the house. With a calamitous flash, a bolt of divine lightning descended from the sky, crashing into the fishing shack below, destroying it instantly.
When the genjutsu faded, and the daughter realized what had happened, she was consumed by despair. She had failed the promise she had made to her beloved, and now would be separated from him for all time. She was doomed to wander the earth as a mortal. With her home completely gone, she set out into the wilderness.
Yet not all was lost.
Upon giving birth to her daughter, the fisherwoman was amazed to see the brilliant chakra she bore. A rainstorm appeared overhead with the child's wailing, thunderclaps echoing across the land. Realizing the gift that Susano-o had bestowed upon her bloodline, the daughter resolved to live on and raise her child as a kunoichi of the storms. With this matrilineal line beginning here, the first of the Zencho tribe, Haru, was born into this world...
Origins and The Three Queens of Heaven
The true origins of the Zencho clan remain a mystery. Whilst their primary origin myth is listed above, more practical histories of their line are difficult to maintain. It is understood that the first of their kin appeared sometime before the Warring States period with the semi-legendary figure of Haru Zencho. Haru is known to have arrived on the Western continent from the Eastern one, possibly having origins in the Land of the Sky.
With the Arashinome, the 'Eye of Storm', the kunoichi quickly carved her name into legend with her feats of power and control over the weather. Calling down mighty lightningbolts from the heavens, flooding armies with monsoons of rain, clearing entire forests with her gales of wind- the many tales of her powerful and promiscuous deeds are plentiful. The historicity of her existence though is dubious, as while it is certain she did exist as the first known Arashinome user, the extent of her power remains the subject of much scholarly debate.
Despite her promiscuity, it became clear that her children were not favored equally by Arashinome. Specifically, only women were able to inherit the ability to manipulate weather. This genetic peculiarity is not fully understood, but it resulted in a strong matrilineal line amongst the young clan. It was apparent to all that the Zencho were a powerful clan of even more powerful women. Commending her offspring to go out and 'become the arbiters of justice', Haru, the 'Queen of Thunder', died as the first Matriarch of her clan, who had come to inhabit the coastal lands of Eastern Konohagakure.
The rise of the Uchiha and Senju, the main fighters in the Warring States period, brought a time of great turbulence to the Zencho. Their core creed had been to help the meek, to be protectors. This war between clans was a fight they yearned to avoid, and yet, war came regardless.
Generations pass. Enter Akari Zencho, 'Queen of the Tempest'. A woman in troubled times, with all the wit and guile to keep a steady head. She steered the middle path, aiming to keep her kin out of any possible mercenary work. A pragmatist at her core, she feared that the fires of the Senju and Uchiha would reach her lands. With her speciality in creating mighty gales and winds with her Arashinome, she excelled in preserving and maintaining the solidarity of her clan. Yet, the cracks began to show. Younger generations wished to join the fray, to turn their might fully against one of the larger clans despite their greater size and number.
This crisis came to a head one night as a contingent of Zencho kunoichi sought to leave their lands and join one of the warring clans. Standing before them to block their departure, Akari asked them to reconsider, to think of what their clan would become if they allowed themselves to become mercenaries. Her pleas for peace fell upon deaf ears.
Distraught, but determined to not let her sisters belittle their control of the sky with destruction, the matriarch activated her own, unleashing the full power of the wind upon her kin, sending them flying off the cliffs to crash upon the rocky crags. This downfall would become known as 'The Night of Red Rain' due to the blood dripping down along the stoney cliffs to the sea below. With this deed done, a full generation of kunoichi wiped out, Akari retreated to her home to mourn and grieve, eventually dying of a broken heart.
As the decades turned to centuries, the Zencho clan dramatically decreased in size, either through less childbearing or other factors. In the end, the last known Matriarch, Fujiko Zencho, the 'Queen of Silent Rain', was left as the last female of the clan. Filled to the teeth with grit, a merciless hand, and a disdain for men, her deeds are the most well documented of the many matriarchs. Her control over the suiton aspect of the Arashinome was unmatched by her forebears, allowing her to flood the deepest of vallies, command the rain to come down like kunai upon the earth, or bend the very fabric of the sky to her will. She was many things, responsible being least among them. When the Second Great Shinobi War arose, she fought as a mercenary on behalf of Amegakure.
Posessing more balls than most men, a recklesness unmatched, Fujiko clashed and brought ruin to those turned before her, even as the war continued to turn decisived against her favor. As the noose began to tighten around the coalition led by Hanzo, Fujiko began to realize how far she had fallen, and how distant the tales of Haru's commandments were. Despite being a contentious figure amongst scholars of the Second War, her final act is one that remained praised by all sides. Cornered between a village of Amegakure and the oncoming forces of Konoha, Fujiko used the remained of her life force to create and impenetrable wall of rain, allowing the villagers to flee to safety even as she was cut down. According to legend, her final words were thus, "It is done".
With that, the Zencho clan, the Arashinome, were declared extinct.
The Recent Past
And yet, the wheel of fate continued to turn... For just as the Will of Fire continues to burn, historians forgot the Zencho creed, 'The storm still rages'. Centuries following the death of Fujiko, the descendants of the Zencho still remain in Konoha, the blood of Susano-o still flowing through their hearts and minds. As the world grows dangerous once again, those who would have otherwise not inherited the will of Haru now have. Something within them has awoken, something alien but familiar, as if it has been a part of their very being all along.
Yoshihiro, one of the few remaining direct descendants of Fujiko, awoke the Arashinome. What was once considered impossible, a male wielder, has become a reality at long last. In this event, the rebirth of the Zencho clan was accomplished. Yoshihiro would not be the only descendant to inherit the will of the storm, for, as if all awakening from a great slumber, others have begun to awaken their Arashinome, scattered across the lands. Male or female, as rare as one can be, they have come to inherit the legacy of Susano-o, called by the storm within their hearts to step out into the world and rebuild a long dead clan.
After centuries of life in the wilderness, the Zencho had returned.. The Eye of the Storm Lives Again.

Kekkei Genkai Name: Arashinome (嵐の目, literally meaning "Eye of the Storm")
Kekkei Genkai Description: The primary ability of the Zencho are their storm creation abilities. Through centuries of breeding and intense training of the three elements comprising such jutsu, a Zencho member's body is tied intricately to Futon, Raiton, and Suiton. Their bodies are literally and figuratively, the eye of their storms. This meteorological phenomena is called the 'Arashinome', and is the primary hereditary gene passed through the generations of Zencho. Instead of using traditional hand seals or lengthy fuuinjutsu to release a user's chakra into the sky, the Zencho do the reverse, fine tuning the chakra in their own bodies to coax the weather above into adopting their specific elemental ratios. For instance, a high concentration of suiton and raiton by the user will prompt the sky to become a tumultuous thunderstorm, whilst a heavy prevalence of futon will create blistering hurricane like winds. Along with this primary ability are three sub abilities that work to support and help the user's body adapt to their existence as a living weathervane.
By using the entire body as a weather convertor, managing the intake and outtake of the elements in the air around them via their tenketsu, the Zencho's physical appearance will alter in the form of elemental tattoos that gauge the type of storm that they are causing to happen around them. They spread out from the tenketsu used to manage the clan member's intake and outake of the elements in them and around them, marking them out like a sore thumb compared to any possible clones. These tattoos vary wildly from clan member to clan member as well as the strength of the storm being called forth. Typically, they have a pattern that replicates the storm of which they are controlling: jagged for lightning, curvy for rainfall, broad strokes for wind, etc. Pulses of elemental energy ripple along these tattoos to further make the user stand out.
- Fūkō-kei (風向計, literally meaning 'weathervane') is the practical effect of the Arashinome phenomena. The storms created by the Zencho vary wildly depending on the type of weather phenomena created, ranging from almighty lightningstorms, to endless monsoons of rain, and more. Aesthetically these storms cover the sky of the entire thread in which they are created until dissipated by the user. On a practical level, their actual area of effect is centered around the user, its size depending on the rank of the jutsu, although this AoE moves with them so long as the storm is active. With these storms, the Zencho are able to turn the sky itself against their enemies, controlling their storms to create devastation and manipulating them to fully take advantage of their raw and unbridled power. Calling down lightning bolts from the sky or to be thrown by the user to attack enemies, channeling/directing the force of hurricanes to carve out the earth along with those standing on it, using raindrops as part of a unified sensory technique or to flood an area, are all examples of past ways that Zencho members have manipulated and used their storms in combat. On the whole, the Arashinome allows for the user to harness the power of weather-based disasters, bringing the fury of the sky down upon their enemies with overwhelming amounts of power.
The user is able to create 1 jutsu, based on one type of weather phenomena, scaling from D to A, that acts as their storm generation ability. This jutsu exists outside the normal limit of jutsu per ninja rank, being an innate part of the user's body and chakra balance. There are specific differences separating this type of weather manipulation from similar effects. For one, although the user pays the full cost to activate the jutsu, the chakra cost to maintain it is reduced by 5 at all ranks. Additionally, other attempts by shinobi to alter the weather will be superseded by the superior control offered by the Arashinome method, locking out attempts to do so which are less than the rank of which the jutsu is used. At B-rank and S-rank, with all elements and Ninjutsu/ChakraFlow at those ranks as well, the user is able to create a second and third storm-generation jutsu, requiring a 3000WC/1000ryo and 5000WC/2000ryo, respectively, to do so. - Kūgun (空軍, literally meaning 'skyborn') is the result of a heightened balance of the user's connection with weather manipulation. A Zencho clan member is able to achieve an enhanced level of flight. Any flight techniques created by them have their base speed increased by 20 m/s.
- Sora no ikari (空の怒り, literally meaning 'Skyward Fury') is an effect that is ingrained into clan members after generations of mastering Chakra Flow as the cornerstone of their fighting styles. Oftentimes using some form of weapon to help them harness their storms as well as fight enemies, clan members have adapted over the generations to fight whilst performing jutsu. As such, they gain the effects of the Multitasker positive SC even if they do not have it.
- Bōryoku (暴力, literally meaning 'gale force') is the extension of a Zencho's storm creation ability. They cannot be harmed by their own storms nor can any jutsu generated from them.
Drawbacks:
- Due to possessing such an innate affinity for weather-based jutsu, those of Zencho are unable to fully grasp ever branching out from its core of Futon, Raiton, and Suiton. Their Tertiary and Quarterary specializations are trained with 20% additional WC, and requiring 15% additional WC to train jutsu of either specs. Additionally, due to the cohesion with which the three elements are used, the user's Futon, Raiton, and Suiton all begin at C-rank. They may not have a fourth element
- Emotion plays a strong factor on a Zencho's personal growth, much like the storms that they control. At character creation, they are required to take either the Foolhardy or Short Fused negative SCs.
- Much as the storm god they hail from, the Zencho are first and foremost a ninjutsu-oriented clan, aiming to use overwhelming firepower to annihilate the opposition instead of more 'subtle' approaches. This affinity has its drawbacks though, as such generational veneration of ninjutsu and the chakra flow necessary to shape weather with it has left them unable to take Genjutsu or Kugutsu as specialisations. Additionally, due to their somewhat brash and straightforwards ways of fighting, they are especially susceptible to the former of these two, causing any Genjutsu used against them to be treated as having +1 rank effectiveness in terms of calculating perception and comparing jutsu strength.
- A clan member's body is tied inextricably to the sky. This is a double edged sword, for concealing a Zencho away from it has debilitating effects. As long as a clan member is underground, deep inside a building like a castle or dungeon, or otherwise significantly contained within a confined space between them and the sky, their physical health will deteriorate. So long as they are in this unfamiliar territory, they will suffer -1 ranks to Strength, Endurance, and Speed.
- Despite being an extinct clan only now awakening again in Konoha, centuries after their supposed demise, there is a single ideal that holds all this clan together: to defend the weak. Whether following the creed set forth by Haru Zencho, the clan's founder, or for their own reasons, these shinobi are imbued to their very core with an impulsive need to protect and defend others weaker than they. As such, they are required to take the 'Defender of the Weak' Negative SC.
- Spoiler:
- Name: Defender of the Weak.
Type: Negative.
Details: This ninja is bound by a strict code of honor. They will go to all reasonable lengths to prevent harm coming to any individual whose ninja rank is two or more ranks lower than their own, and they may not retreat from a fight in which such a ninja is at risk of harm. When fighting against a ninja whose ninja rank is lower than their own, this ninja will hold back, reducing the damage output of their offensive techniques by one rank (to the minimum of the new rank).
