The village itself in whatever bizarre reality that Nova had become embroiled in was nearly identical to the layout and structure of the village of Kiri, if only Kiri had been left unattended and allowed to decay for some amount of time. Building faces had begun to crumble and nature had become to shove itself through the cracks in the streets, when paired with the ever-present mist it reminded Nova of a mixture of a horror movie and her nightmares. Nova let her senses wander out from Doku Tsuki's shell and she felt the absence of life in the streets as sat within the hull of Kurogokegamu for the first time in a while. The duo of heavy metal puppets on the street was a noise one could hear from far off, though it completely masked the light-footed steps of Nova's partner whom she had found wandering the woods bordering the village on her own. The redheaded Karisuma that Nova had grown to be so fond of had found the village through her own means, and it was purely chance that Nova had stumbled in her direction though having such a delicate sensory of the movement around her as well as familiarity with the form in question certainly gave an advantage. Nova was able to pick up Izumi's light footsteps long before either girl would see each other through the trees and mist, though the thunks of the puppets legs tapping into the ground would be audible from a short distance. As she approached she could try to speak softly but loud enough to hear in the direction of Izumi to warn her of her approach, “Izumi, It's me, Nova”.

Nova hoped that Izumi would recognize her as she had very little desire to be met with an unexpected fireball of some sort, and as an additional precaution would send Doku Tsuki ahead of her and though its visage was a frightening one it would be a recognizable one. From the trees Nova would emerge, still seated comfortably within Kurogokegamu's shell. With a smile on her face, she would direct the puppet over to Izumi and clamber out to give her a hug. With a peck on the cheek Nova would draw back, “I'm glad you are okay, I was worried about you. I ended up finding Lord Osada almost right after going through so I was alright but I had no clue where you went-”. While Nova had more to say, her voice was cut off by a piercing scream that cut through the mist. The high pitched noise echoed through the forest, seeming to come from all directions at once. Letting her senses wander out again from the scorpion puppet, Nova wondered if there was something she had missed somehow when approaching Izumi. Again the pained howl would tear through the mist as Nova located what she could only assume was the source. Several meters beneath the earth under the village itself were what appeared to be two groups nearing a stand off. Now searching more closely to uncover how they were there, Nova now noted a series of tunnels and rooms that seemed to cross back and forth through eachother. As well as the rooms themselves Nova could 'see' the contents of the rooms themselves, at which she instantly understood what it was. The walls were lined with caskets and coffins, packed so tightly that there was no earth visible between them.

In the center of what appeared to be a larger room offset from the hall was a group of five.... creatures that loomed above the height of any normal human. In addition to their startling size, Nova noted that each one of them lacked a heartbeat that made a living human so easy to spot. Cowering behind a pile of debris in the same room was a group of what Nova could only assume were women and children from their size and movements. She would gasp and point in the direction they needed to go and slid quickly into the seat of Doku Tsuki, “Get in Kurogokegamu close the lid, and be prepared for a fight.... there's something in the tunnels beneath us. Ill tunnel down to them with Doku Tsuki, then I'll have Kurogokegamu follow. Load the cannon and then get out and do your thing. If you want to fight from inside of it feel free, tap your foot in the direction you want to go and you will.”. With that the shell of the scorpion would slam shut and latch with a click, the cannon on the tail switching between the loaded options and swaying overhead ready to strike. With deft motions, the pincers of the scorpion would tear into the earth with ease, leaving a mound of overturned dirt behind her as she disappeared. The moment Izumi would close the lid the puppet would jolt into motion and follow, thought not meant for tunneling it was able to follow behind Doku Tsuki's in its trail with ease.

Nova would near the room, and sense all occupants of it turning their head to the ceiling in unison as a rumbling seemed to overtake the room and dust and bits of the ceiling would drop to the floor. Though the direction of attack was an unexpected one, Doku Tsuki was not made for stealth. The room was almost twenty meters beneath the earth which the construct reached in only a moment. The last several meters before emerging into the room, Nova was surprised to find, was made entirely of caskets stacked atop each other with earth layered between them. Her stomach would turn slightly as the wood would splinter along with the long dried bones contained within, a feeling she would have to shove aside as she busted through the wall to meet the beasts. Towering at over two meters tall, five gruesome figures in various stages of decomposition turned to face her, each armed with a sword and helm. Nova was nearly thankful for the helm the covered most of their faces, as when one howled in anger Nova would catch a glimpse of the pulpy mess that had once been nearly human. In the corner the children were sobbing and mothers trying to hold their children to their chest  in fear as what they could only assume was another monstrosity tore through the tunnels they once hid within for protection. From higher on the wall of caskets, Doku Tsuki's tail would dart through and with a fire a projectile that whistled through the air to the side of the beasts opposite the villagers.  A dull thud would echo through the room before a ringing explosion and a flash would fill the room. Again her stomach would sink as she realized the mistake she may have just made. A crack would be audible as the ceiling and walls in the corner of the room behind the undead  started to sink. The flash had been from the explosion of one of the electrically charged missiles that she had crafted not long before this. Metal shrapnel rocket outward in every direction, bit sinking in to the all the surfaces withing fifteen meters, including the undead. They did not seem to pay them any mind still staring at her with empty eye sockets and decayed scowls though there were several gaping holes in their dried and disintegrating flesh, electricity still crackling through the metal shards embedded there.

Nova blinked as they seemed to not care about the metal impaled in their bodies and Kurogokegamu would emerge from the wall as well, Standing behind the metal scorpion with Izumi within. “Go for their heads!!”

Jun had no idea how she had gotten stuck in her current predicament. Her best guess was that it had happened at some point during the night. Most likely, she had been put into some form of enchanted sleep to prevent her from waking up while she was dragged a few miles in God only knows what direction. She tried to remember what she had done the day before. Closing her eyes tightly, she did her best to recall what had happened. She had arrived at the edge of a haunted forest, accompanied by her grandmother and sent forth to find her uncle Sero. So far, she hadn't had any luck with that particular mission. Her grandmother had activated some form of portal on Spider Island that brought Jun to some kind of island that her uncle had either prepared or somehow come across. Either way, the place was less than pleasant.

Everything was covered in a layer of mist and fog twice as thick as the one in Kiri. The buildings were in ruins, crumbling and decaying to leave way for nature to retake them. The inhabitants that she had spotted - few and far between - were sickly people, pale and undernourished. Part of Jun doubted that they were people at all. She had heard stories about her uncle Sero modifying creatures - mostly spiders - and giving them a new form. In any case, after traversing through the forest and arriving village, Jun took shelter in one of the better looking houses and decided to call it a night. She would deliver the shield grandmother Gin had given her the day after. She had woken up here in this maze of coffins and without the package she was meant to give Sero. Shit.

The results were all the same, though, regardless of the process. The young Kuroka was buried neck deep in a hole, in the middle of what looked to be a graveyard, or at the very least, a mortuary. It was hard to tell without being able to move her head around and the thick layer of fog only made it worse. Moreover, the large coffins surrounding her blocked the white haired girl off from the rest of the room. What was clear, though, was the fact that she was in the middle of some sort of pentagram, with candles at the end and some tray of slowly burning herbs a few feet away from her. The smell was nauseating.

Every so often, she would hear wailing screams and terrified chatter coming from nearby or farther off. There must have been others that had been taken like she had been. Great. The last thing she needed to do was worry about civilians. She had enough on her plate already. Now if she could locate who was behind this, that would be a fantastic start. Judging by her surroundings alone, this was probably the work of a local cult. Taking into account the kind of place this was - a mirrored version of a ruined Kirigakure - there were bound to be several of them laying about.

"Who's there? Show yourself!" She yelled. Her voice echoed throughout the cave-like room, reverberating through the walls. An eerie silence was left in its place. The pained scream and frightened chatter dissipated for several seconds. A chill ran down Jun's spine as the temperature dropped several degrees. The earth itself seemed to grow cold. A figure emerged from the mist, its outline barely distinguishable. Junichi found that she could see through it. Its robes were translucent, its face mostly covered. Was this some sort of chakra projection or something else?

In its presence, the pentagram began to glow a crimson shade of red. The candles in each corner flickered to life. As each second passed, the circle slowly began to glow brighter. "It has begun. Soon, you will become one of us, child," the creature said. The voice was chilling and eerie. It echoed and sounded like it came from somewhere else entirely. Moreover, its mouth handn't even opened when it spoke. The thing placed a hand gently on her head. Was this supposed to be some sort of paternal gesture? To hell with that. Reflexively, Jun tore her head back as far as she could and bit the ghostly hand with bared teeth. They went completely through the ghost, but somehow left the feeling that she had just bitten a slab of cold iron. Her mouth ached and went ice cold.

"Like fuck I will," she growled anyways. Prideful as she was, she refused to show fear in the face of whatever this thing was. She would get out of this. How? She didn't know yet. She would figure that out one way or another. After all, Jun had never been the kind of person to understand when she was severely outmatched.

First stage of grief: Denial.

Izumi gave Lord Osada some credit, this was no pale imitation of the real thing. Whether it was some sort of impossibly complex genjutsu or something stranger entirely, Izumi had no inkling. It was clear however, that this was some strange hell scape of his own design which depicted a twisted and macabre version of the village she’d come to have known. The trees were all barren and the landscape seemed lifeless and bleak. Izumi could only hope that this wasn’t the real world but that strange portal was a pretty strong indicator that it probably wasn’t. She was alone it seemed, she’d woken up in the forest fully dressed for battle. The sky was a colour that was indescribable in normal terms, the best way to explain the eerie colour would be to describe it as “evil”. Izumi was not easy to spook, but even still this place set her on edge. Izumi was at a level of high focus similar to if she were in a duel all of her senses were focused on the world around her, and her head was on a swivel searching for possible danger. What little she knew of Lord Osada told her that this would be no walk in the park, unlike the “training” done with Nozomi which was little more an exercise in chaos than any truly practical training. That is not a bad thing as much as it may seem.

It is good to be prepared for anything in this life. To hesitate is to die. Izumi focused on the air around her and sent her ration chakra through the air which activated her extra sensory input technique. The young woman was shocked to find the forest was nearly devoid of life, except … Izumi’s eyes darted in the direction of a human’s signature that was approaching her. Taking cover behind a tree and readying to fell the target should it prove to be foe. “Izumi, It's me, Nova” The Karisuma would let out a deep sigh of relief when she saw Doku Tsuki, Nova’s signature puppet. Still maintaining her sensory technique while emerging from her hiding hole, Izumi advanced to meet and to embrace her lover. Nova would try to retreat after giving Izumi a quick peck on the cheek but Izumi would pull her in for a proper a kiss before letting her off to her puppet. “I'm glad you are okay, I was worried about you. I ended up finding Lord Osada almost right after going through so I was alright but I had no clue where you went- Their conversation was cut startlingly short when a scream pierced the air, Izumi also sensed two groups of what seemed to be humans beneath her were at some sort of pursuit. It was most likely in Kiri’s catacombs where frightened villagers would cower for safety in times of danger. Izumi prepared to set off to see if people needed help but was stopped by a soft hand belonging to Nova.

While the high pitch screech resounded through the forest, Izumi would bring her gaze to match Nova’s. It seemed the younger woman had more advanced sensory techniques than Izumi’s and had gleaned enough information to form an infiltration plan. As Nova got situated in Doku Tsuki, and pointed downwards she began sharing her plan with the older woman, “Get in Kurogokegamu close the lid, and be prepared for a fight.... there's something in the tunnels beneath us. Ill tunnel down to them with Doku Tsuki, then I'll have Kurogokegamu follow. Load the cannon and then get out and do your thing. If you want to fight from inside of it feel free, tap your foot in the direction you want to go and you will.” Izumi wasted no time climbing into the spider like construct, eager to get to work she slammed the lid shut almost in unison with the puppet mistress, the noise was nearly deafening this was definitely not a stealthy mission. Izumi was a tiny bit excited to scratch that itch she always had to fight. Izumi heard a loud bang and could see a flash through what small cracks existed in the hatch. The battle had already begun.

Izumi jumped deftly out of the puppet, to be greeted by five ghoulish visages of what appeared to be walking corpses. Izumi wasn’t quite prepared for this and was shocked into inaction for the briefest of moments, quickly snapping out of the daze to parry a blow using her wrist blade. There was a yell from an unexpected voice, "Who's there? Show yourself!" belonging to what Izumi assumed was a woman or teen. In the back of the room Izumi could see one of the undead kneeling down to something, or worse someone. Candles illuminated the room revealing a girl in the corner as well as the undead before her sending another swing, this time after a swift leaning dodge Izumi stepped into her opponents guard and stabbed him under the chin easily piercing its brain causing the now completely lifeless corpse to fall to the ground. "It has begun. Soon, you will become one of us, child,.

The unfamiliar voice had a swift retort to the chilling voice, "Like fuck I will,". The feisty young woman had not moments before bit the undead, which had no effect but leaving a very nasty taste in the young girls mouth. Izumi had to act fast, so she focused on her own body and released a rush of adrenaline within it. Feeling faster than ever, Izumi charged for the figure looming over the youngest of the three ladies in the room, a sound familiar to Nova would fill the room, a sound that could only be described as one thousand birds chirping in unison. For anyone else in the room, it would be a streak of lightning crossing the room and exploding out of the back of the undead’s head killing it instantly and saving the young woman’s life. Izumi would then position herself in a defensive pose between the youngest of the women and the rest of the room.

Nova sensed another being in the room, though its location confused her as it appeared that someone was buried to the neck in the earth,"Who's there? Show yourself!". Nova would assume that the voice belonged to the one that she had just determined the location of, though she was still out of her line of sight. As she tried to figure out how to safely remove one from the earth in what was not a precise machine would, she watched Izumi leap from the spider puppet to meet one of the beast in combat with a blade that slid out from her wrist. Izumi's eyes would dart to the corner of the room, where one of the undead was crouching over whoever it was buried in the earth. Two of the ghouls would descent upon Nova, their swords swinging downwards and clattering off the heavy armor that made up the puppet. Nova would be able to tank as assault as simple as this for any amount of time, and not wanting to waste any more ammunition, Doku Tsuki's bladed tail would begin a dance between the two and their blades. Izumi would dispatch one with a blade slid beneath its chest."It has begun. Soon, you will become one of us, child”The unfamiliar voice had a swift retort to the chilling voice, "Like **** I will.”

The ghoul lumbering over the girl in the earth would move to attack her as she placed a bite upon its leg, a move that seemed impulsive and not well thought out as it had no effect other than the taste of dead flesh. A familiar sound would echo in the room, the chirping of nonexistanct birds as izumi would charge across the room and lighting would shoot through the undeads skull, sending fragments flying against the wall behind it. Izumi would move in a defensive fashion in front of the girl as three of the monsters remained. Kurogokegamu would skitter over to the pair and place itself protectivly over the head of the girl buried in the earth, Nova still wondering how she would help extract her. Though her equipment was superior to the swords they wielded, the onslaught of multiple attacks left Nova nearly in a stalemate as the third monster began its assault. Taking a deep breath and with a twitch of her finger, flames would pour from the front of the scorpion puppet as the bladed tail sliced with it. The now flaming monsters would howl with anger, still trying to beat their swords against the spined body to no effect. With the distraction of the licking flames now burning their flesh, the monsters had been pushed into a rage and attacked with no consideration for their safety. Drawing back the tail, it would dart back forward, piercing the first of them through the chin in a similar manner to Izumi's attack, though the other two continued.

By the looks of it, the cavalry had arrived - two women, maybe a few years older than Jun was. Her head forced still by her current predicament, she was unable to turn around and get a decent look. The first that had come, from what she could see, was an average sized red headed girl that decided it was a good idea to ram a ball of lightning into the back of this... thing's head. The results were even less pleasant than biting into it had been. Dark blots of coagulated blood splattered across the young Kuroka's face and hair. Some of that was probably rotten grey matter. She resisted the urge to gag and fueled by her anger, succeeded. As it turns out, feelings of rage could be quite distracting.

A pair of mismatched eyes - aqua green and crimson red - watched the scene before her. Her teeth gritted. "You could've been more careful with that, you idiot!" She yelled at the woman that had quite possibly just saved her life. The young girl was practically growling. To make matters worse, despite the undead creature being, well, dead, the muted light emanating from the circle kept growing in intensity. Whatever that thing had started, its demise hadn't stopped it. The temperature in the ground kept dropping. If Jun had had any space to move, she was sure that she would have been shivering. At the very least, her teeth were chattering. "G-get me out of this g-goddamn hole!" She cried.

At that point, a second woman came into this part of the room - another girl with fiery red hair, but streaks of teal scattered throughout. By what little she could see, the two knew each other, meaning that they had likely come to this place together. Having a limited vision of them and what was happening, the white haired girl assumed that the two were siblings. Had they been dragged here the same way she had? If that was the case, then why the hell was Jun the one stuck in the hole? Anyone who saw her would be able to tell that she was absolutely seething.

A spider-like thing placed itself between Jun and the two women, hovering over her. The young Kuroka was taken aback by it at first, but the thing wasn't attacking. It was merely standing there, as if waiting to be told what to do or how to react. Jun lifted her head slightly - as far as she could - to examine the creature, only to conclude that it was no creature at all. The makings of it were clearly mechanical - metal joints and twisting gears. This was a puppet.

For a brief moment, memories of Suna came to mind. Most puppet users hailed from the now ruined desert village, after all. They had enjoyed a good deal of renown back there. She remembered her great grandmother's lectures - historical and educational rather than focused on combat instruction. The old woman had really wanted Jun to stay as far away as possible from the life of a shinobi, evidently, to no avail. The Kuroka blood ran strong through the white haired girl's veins, and with it, a desire for combat and violence.

Second stage of grief: Anger.

Jun could feel her body becoming numb. She wasn't entirely sure if it was due to the cold around her or if it was something else. Somewhere along the way, she began to feel as if her energy had been leaking out of her, as if it were being absorbed into the ground itself. That creature couldn't have been telling the truth, right? There was no way that she was becoming one of those things. This had to be some sort of jutsu, some technique that allowed the user to trap their foes and drain them of chakra. It was a pentagram of sorts, meaning that it was most likely a seal. If one of the two women knew fuuinjutsu, maybe they could undo it. Worst case scenario, the seal's continued activity meant that the user had to be somewhere close by. If they were to be defeated, then this whole ludicrous process would stop.

If only she could move, Jun would feel less helpless. She would have done nearly anything right about then to know some sort of Doton technique that freed her from her confines. Why had she forgone learning more than basic ninjutsu? It didn't matter now. Wondering wouldn't help her at all. There was only one thing she could do. She took a deep breath and swallowed her pride. She would deny saying any of these words until the say she died. "H-hey! Could you lovely girls try to break me out of here? I'm really not feeling well, so if I could move around, I could even help you fight," she began. The girl would let the words linger in the air. However, over the sounds of combat, it was likely that the other two weren't able to hear her at all.

"Look, I'll be... nice. I'll behave if you can get me out of here, OK? Does that sound good?" If they kept ignoring her, didn't hear her, or if they simply didn't have a chance to respond, Jun would continue. "Look, my hag of a grandmother gave me a shield I had to give my uncle. Tell you what, if you get me out of here, I can just tell her I lost it, OK? The two of you can split it or something, I don't care. I'm sure it's useful! It was made by one of the legendary Seven Swordsmen of the Mist!" She called. This entire situation was getting out of hand. If Gin ever found out that she was offering up her retirement gift to Sero, well... she really didn't want to think about that. She hated to admit it, but her grandmother could be beyond terrifying and made it clear that she wasn't above holding back against a genin. Jun's mother had regaled her with stories of her early training days and it seemed to match up with accounts of torture camps and child cruelty. Her own training with the woman had yet to reach that level, but the white haired girl was certain - for some odd reason, instinct maybe - that her mother hadn't been exaggerating.

Jun would cross that bridge when she got there, though. For now, all that mattered was surviving whatever the hell this situation could even be called.

Third stage of grief: Bargaining.

Izumi's heroics while difficult to perceive definitely didn't go unnoticed. The satisfying result of Izumi's chidori was a splatter of blood, bone, and brains all over the wall and on the girl trapped beneath. The young woman had a temper, in fact it reminded Izumi a bit of herself, the red head grinned at the white haired girl as she gritted her teeth and hissed out her 'thanks' "You could've been more careful with that, you idiot!" She was certainly a feisty one,  Izumi simply grinned at her younger counterpart until it seemed that she was actually in some sort of distress. Still the imperious one, the girl continued to throw out commands, "G-get me out of this g-goddamn hole!" She seemed to be shivering, perhaps the undead used some sort of cold jutsu on her. While Izumi didn't have many tools to dig her out of the ground, she could at least make sure she didn't freeze to death. Izumi knelt down and touched the girl on the forehead sending katon chakra into her body and warming it. Kurgokegamu would approach and stand between the younger woman and Izumi.

The enemies were being dealt with handily, with Nova battling the two that remained Izumi stayed near the defenseless white haired young woman to protect her in case of anymore foes emerging from the catacombs to exact their vengeance on the living. She seemed to be having a really poor time of it, “H-hey! Could you lovely girls try to break me out of here? I'm really not feeling well, so if I could move around, I could even help you fight," Izumi wouldn't turn to face her but would answer all the same, “I'd love to get you out of there, but even if I could I wouldn't let you help. You're in no fighting shape.” The young lady kept pleading with the air probably unable to hear Izumi's responses over the pitched combat, "Look, I'll be... nice. I'll behave if you can get me out of here, OK? Does that sound good?" Izumi didn't bother replying this time, instead marveling at Nova's handiwork with the scorpion puppet, it finally clicked at that moment. Izumi knew what she had to do to save the pretty young girl trapped in the ground but first the little brat had something to say, “Look, my hag of a grandmother gave me a shield I had to give my uncle. Tell you what, if you get me out of here, I can just tell her I lost it, OK? The two of you can split it or something, I don't care. I'm sure it's useful! It was made by one of the legendary Seven Swordsmen of the Mist!" Izumi finally had enough of the young lady's attitude, being rude to her was one thing however implying that she was after some sort of reward struck a nerve with the Karisuma, who turned to the younger lady and glared down at her, “If I could pull you out, I already would have. In case you haven't noticed we're fighting a bunch of fucking zombies at the moment. Now if you'd shut your mouth and let us kill these things I'll have my girlfriend here dig you out,” Izumi called out to Nova next, projecting her voice across the room to her lover, Izumi's plan was put to words, “Nova, I'll fight the things, I need you to use Doku Tsuki to dig out our new friend here. Don't worry about me.”

Izumi charged forward past the past the puppet mistress assuming she'd obey Izumi's orders. Izumi was ready for battle, the two undead that were on fire were standing close together seemingly uncaring of their current predicament. Whatever they were, they didn't process pain normally but it did seem that they still had need of the nervous system. The destruction of the two subjects brains were proof enough for that fact. Having downed the two fell creatures with piercing blows to the brain, Izumi saw no reason to switch up tactics. Izumi's raiton field was still active and thus it was still in contact with the strange beasts. Izumi grinned, the weird horrors seemed wildly unintelligent and thus easy kill with clever attacks and tactics. The trap was set long ago and they had no clue it was there. It would have been hard to detect even for Nova when a sudden burst of electricity trapped the two undead in the back within an orb of electricity. The electricity arced from the orb to the two animated corpses within, burning off what flesh remained and overloading their nervous systems causing them to collapse in a convulsing mess on the floor.

Izumi was still kind of miffed at the young lady and a devilish idea popped into her head, looking from the undead back to the young lady, Izumi had an idea. More of a cruel trick to be honest. The young woman could be no more than a genin based on her attitude and age. Izumi wanted to see the young lady attempt to kill the strange creature full well knowing that she'd most likely fail possibly even being harmed in the process. It wasn't that worrying though, either Izumi or Nova could easily heal her and step in to save her if things looked dire. But still, call it a sort of test for the young lady.“Nova hurry up and get her out, I want to see if there's some teeth behind that bark of hers.” Izumi approached the white haired girl, “Hear that kid, it's your turn.” Izumi still had her adrenaline increased to near dangerous levels, should it appear that the young woman was in serious danger Izumi would dart forward in a blur and plunge her blade underneath the beast chin to save the young white haired lady whose name was unknown.

Over the clattering of swords against Doku Tsuki's hide, Nova heard Izumi call out her name, followed by a set of simple instructions, “Nova, I'll fight the things, I need you to use Doku Tsuki to dig out our new friend here. Don't worry about me.” So she was right, a girl buried to the neck and apparently no way to escape herself. Even Izumi would have to spend time on digging her out with her lack of doton jutsu and such. Doku Tsuki was planned around working in the earth, though the intent was to tunnel at great speeds destroying anything in its way rather than delicately trying to excavate the area around a very injure-able being. Izumi would dash into action, taking the offensive rather than Nova's tactic of tanking the inconsequential hits to her puppet armor. Kurogokegamu would jump to the roof with its cannon twitching around in case of of the attackers neared them, a razor web stored and ready to shoot. Nova, who had once sat within the cushioned shell of her puppet, would slowly step out onto the uneven ground and mound of debris that buried a white haired girl to the neck. A scowl on her face and.... something... splattered across her cheeks. The corpse with a hole through its head sat not far by, its smell not letting one forget its presence.

“Alright. so... this is definitely the type of use that I had in mind when I made this thing so we are gonna have to be really careful here”, Nova would mumble nearly to herself though the white haired girl would have no problem hearing her from only a few paces away. Raising her left hand and rubbing the back of her neck nervously with her right, her fingers would twitch out instructions to the puppet though there was so visible connection of string between the two. The puppet's shell would close loudly, and the puppet would skitter over until its shiny 'face' reflected the girls gaze back at herself. “So if you wouldn't mind staying as still as possible, I'll let you know when you are good to go.

With that the nearly meter long pincers looming overhead for the girl would begin tearing through the packed dirt and debris that trapped the girl. Nova could hear the sounds of battle from behind her over the rumble of shifting earth, a sound which must have been even more rumbling and tangible through the trapped girls earthly prison. Crashing echoed through the room as what Nova assumed were two of the monsters collapsed to the ground, just as Doku Tsuki's pincers had shifted the earth that had once restrained the younger girls arms. “Nova hurry up and get her out, I want to see if there's some teeth behind that bark of hers.” Izumi would say as she strode up from behind Nova towards the nearly uncovered youth. “just.. another... second.....”, Nova said in an achingly slow voice as the metal ground through the solid earth around the girls legs, an uncomfortable pressure to be sure, as the suddenly she would be freed. “Hear that kid, it's your turn.”

Izumi would drive the point home as she gestured to the one last creature that lumbered about on the opposite side of the room unsure of how to approach for its next attack, its body still scorching. Hearing the tone of Izumi's voice, Nova would draw her puppets back, though both of them were more than capable of reacting quickly if need be with strikes from a range. She too was curious if this young girl had power to match the attitude that radiated from her. Looking down for a moment she winced as she noticed that the majority of the earth below her feet contained recognizably large shards of bone from an inconceivably large number of bodies. Looking back up she watched to see how the now released girl would react to her challenge, as prepared as Izumi was in the case that they need to jump in and intervene to save her. Their handy defeat of the other four must have given Izumi the confidence to let this happen, confidence that Nova did not think was misplaced.

Passive - if not completely outward - aggression was the response she got from one of the two. Which one it was, she wasn't so sure. Her vision was still mostly blocked by the spider contraption meant to protect her. As for the jab about her being in no fighting shape? She heard that. Sure, the sound of fighting might have drowned some of the noise, but Kuroka Junichi had a talent for hearing anything mildly insulting said about her. In her house in Kiri, she often heard her grandmother's complaints about her from several rooms away. Was it useful? Well, only if you considered an instant switch to get her angry as useful. In other words, not very at this stage in her life. "Hey! I heard that you bitch! If me yelling at you keeps you from fighting then you're shit at your job! You hear me? You're shit, you absolute twat!" She yelled back, her previous facade of cooperativeness now gone.

But hey, at least the woman fighting had agreed to have her girlfriend dig her out. That was definitely an improvement. And if they came demanding Sero's new shield afterwards, well... she'd figure a way out of that one. As the other woman approached, the spider deftly leaped onto the roof, clearing out her view of what was going on directly in front of her. Two of the fumbling bodies were on fire. The smell was sickening, to say the least - resembling all kinds of rot and decay. Still, watching the woman fight was a spectacle to behold.

At the order to keep still, Jun cocked an eyebrow and stared at her for a moment. "Look, miss," she began, surprisingly cordial. Under normal cirsumstances, she would have addressed the girl as bitch, but hey, she was giving her a hand. The least she could do was be somewhat polite. The key word there was somewhat. Moreover, she admired the finesse it took to effectively wield a puppet. It involved a lot of dexterity and fine movement. "I couldn't move even if I wanted to. That's the entire issue here. But hey, if I lose an arm, you can just make me one to make up for it," she said. Her thoughts flashed to her grandmother's mechanical arm. It wasn't ideal, but hey, it worked.

All the while, the red light of the pentagram kept shining brighter, as if reaching its apex. At the same time, breathing was becoming harder. "So if you could... hurry it up... that... would be great," she groaned. At this point, she could barely feel the rest of her body. Shit. "When I get out of here, I have to make sure to tell my grandmother she's a fucking bitch and this is all her fault for sending me here," she spat with what little energy she had left. She failed to mention who her grandmother was, or even to mention her own name. It sounded more like she was making a mental note to herself than anything else.

Fourth stage of grief: Depression Back to anger again.

A mere instance before the ritual could be completed, the woman was able to spring Jun free of her confines. She felt a rush of warmth and energy, as if everything that had been depleted from her body had come back in one fell swoop. She felt alive, re-energized and ready to fight, even though she got the feeling that she was outmatched. Still, under the woman's judging eye, she wouldn't falter. She would rather charge in and die than admit that she was too weak to handle it on her own.

"I'm a fucking genin, does she really think I can do much if the two of them are struggling against these things? I'm barely out of the Academy. Shit, I didn't even go to the Academy, I was fucking home schooled by a bunch of psychopaths." Her mind ran a mile a minute trying to devise a way to take care of this last creature and put it down before it had a chance to do the same to her.

Fueled by adrenaline and anger, she acted as quickly as she could. She conjured her chakra and the essence of her very soul to create a solid weapon, seemingly made out of pure energy. She was yet unable to hold its form properly, but it looked vaguely like two wakizashi, one held in each hand. The undead creature didn't recognize her as a threat, but maybe she could use that to her advantage. If it didn't expect her to do damage, she could take it by surprise.

The young Kuroka channeled more chakra through her left blade, embedding a seal onto it that might make this fight at least a little easier. It made no sense to waste additional chakra to bind this creature's soul to hers. After all, it might not even possess one. That, and there was no way to figure out what it's name was in the first place. She would have to skip that step in favor of immediately sealing what abilities she could.

With a loud grunt, she slashed her sword through the air. An array of floating letters left the tip of the blade like a ribbon and wrapped itself around the ghoul, who didn't even bother to dodge. However, realizing that something was now wrong with it, it charged forward, closing the distance between the white haired girl and itself in what was, to her, the blink of an eye. She got ready to parry the incoming blow, keeping what her mother and grandmother had taught her.

Steady your stance. Watch carefully. Anticipate the direction. Meet them there. To the best of her ability, she parried several of the blows, but it was clear that she was on the defensive and barely able to catch up. With every hit she blocked, she had to take a step back to increase the distance between her opponent and herself. At this rate, she would be cornered in no time. She had to do something to distract this thing. Without much time to think, she hit it in the usual weak spot she loved to exploit in men: the crotch. The thing was surprised for a moment, although unable to feel pain the same way as a human. Taking advantage of this, Jun stabbed her two blades in its abdomen. Blood trickled down the blade to her hand, burning it like acid and forcing her to let go of her weapon. She staggered back, knowing immediately that she had lost.

Suddenly, all of her accumulated exhaustion caught up with her. Her vision blurred, her knees weakened. She could barely stand. Before passing out and collapsing, she saw a flash of red hair intercept the creature's sharpened claws and her own body.

Fifth stage of grief: Interrupted. No acceptance achieved.

Izumi's words were not without consequence, the feisty young white haired one had some venom, "Hey! I heard that you bitch! If me yelling at you keeps you from fighting then you're shit at your job! You hear me? You're shit, you absolute twat!" While Izumi deftly handled the eldritch beings before them, Nova got to work on the extraction process of the young woman who Izumi was beginning to consider leaving behind. The young woman had some more kind words for her grandmother, before charging into action with the far greater foe. Izumi chuckled watching the proud young lady face certain doom, this was all a game to the redheaded Karisuma. Izumi was no stranger to real combat, having put her life on the line many times both in the line of duty and as a civilian. The young lady may not have been born a fighter but she was made into one easily by her experiences. The white haired girl before her however, was nothing more than a loud mouthed child. If Izumi weren't there she'd surely be felled by the one creature let alone when there was five of them. The young lady seemed able to conjure a sword from thin air, perhaps there was more to her than met the eye thought Izumi. Even the horrific monster before them seemed a bit amused at the child stepping up to face it. The thing must have had some sort of intelligence since it seemed to understand that its opponent was the girl now. The young woman held a sword in each hand, an aggressive style fitting for a young lady with such a bad attitude.

When the young lady slashed at the beast it seemed to write letters in the air due to some sort of chakra enhancement, the letters wrapped around the ghoulish figure. The undead freak sped towards the youngest of the women, closing the distance nearly in an instant. The sound of metal on metal filled the room as the girl parried it's first blow. Blow after blow was met with a parry but it almost seemed as if she was being toyed with. Apparently the young woman hadn't paid attention to thing's weakness because the first blow she was able to land struck it directly in the crotch. An effective target against any living foe, it was applicable in this scenario. The young lady had good training, following up the surprising blow with a dual thrust to the abdomen. Again, against a living target the young lady would have easily won at this point but this was no normal fight. The things blood burned at the young woman's skin and she backed away seemingly accepting in her defeat and collapsing to the ground. Nova would see nothing more than a flash of red hair as Izumi flew across the room to drive her blade into the strange thing putting to the rest it so rightfully desired. Izumi focused on her extra senses once more to determine if it was safe, finally they were in the clear.

When the action was finished, Izumi assumed a more relaxed posture, and turned to her lover and the young woman that they had saved. “This one's a bit like me isn't she Nova. A lot more rude though. We should probably help her though, she seems to have exerted herself too much for one day. Poor thing needs a nap. What is this place? What were those things? I know you've met with Lord Osada, did he tell you anything? Why did we agree to this again?” Izumi's usual manner of rapid fire questioning was used on Nova yet again. So many thoguhts come to Izumi's mind at once sometimes she had troubles keeping it to just one when communicating. Izumi felt something of a kinship with the young lady. Sharing in an irrational and untamed anger issue, Izumi kind of liked the young woman in a weird way. “You did great by the way Nova, I love watching you work.” Glancing down to make sure the young woman was passed out Izumi leaned in to Nova's ear and spoke in a low voice “It turns me on watching those fingers work.”  Kneeling down to assess if the young lady was injured or simply in need of rest Izumi check for a pulse and see if she was breathing normally. Izumi had learned a bit more about the healing arts during her time in the Mist Village.

It seemed that the young woman who was yet to be named to Izumi was fine other than being pushed to her limit. With Izumi's adrenaline rush coming to an end Izumi wasn't far off from collapsing either. The Karisuma wanted to find somewhere to rest that wasn't too tomb-y. The white haired girl while rude, didn't deserve to be left behind so Izumi picked up the young lady before making her way out of the catacombs. Izumi figured that since this was a graveyard there was surely a house on the grounds where the creepy grave guy lived. Izumi would illuminate the grounds with a spark emanating from her left hand. It didn't take long to find the small hovel that the weird man who normally resided here called home. Laying the youngest of her companions softly down on the bed, and ensuring she had ample coverage for the night Izumi would sit down in front of the fire place and build a meager fire. Once the tiny blaze was ignited, Izumi would curl up and succumb to the exhaustion caused by her manipulation of her own adrenaline output.

To call the white haired girl rude was not inaccurate, as Nova approached she heard the young lady cry out, "Hey! I heard that you bitch! If me yelling at you keeps you from fighting then you're shit at your job! You hear me? You're shit, you absolute twat!" While Nova had started to get to work the foul mouthed child continued to beg and plead, "Look, miss, I couldn't move even if I wanted to. That's the entire issue here. But hey, if I lose an arm, you can just make me one to make up for it. So if you could... hurry it up... that... would be great. When I get out of here, I have to make sure to tell my grandmother she's a **** bitch and this is all her fault for sending me here.” Nova performed her duty swiftly and calmly, but once the young lady was free all bets were off. Before the white haired girl could head off to accept Izumi's challenge Nova would grab her by the wrist. “If you ever talk to my girlfriend like that again I will flay your skin with razor wire. Did you hear me you little brat? Izumi isn't a bitch. She's … amazing.” It may have not fully adjusted the young woman's attitude but at least she was able to be kinder in speech when referring to Izumi as she walked away muttering under her breath on her way to her solemn duel. "I'm a **** genin, does she really think I can do much if the two of them are struggling against these things? I'm barely out of the Academy. Shit, I didn't even go to the Academy, I was **** home schooled by a bunch of psychopaths."

Nova giggled a little at the woman's foul mouthed manner of speech. After a fierce show of swordsmanship by both sides, it was clear that the monster was the better swordsman. Backing away and looking at her hands as if they failed her the younger woman collapsed. In a blink of an eye and a flash of red Izumi was upon the savage thing, killing it with one precise blow. Nova admired Izumi, she was everything a kunoichi should be while Nova was only good with puppets. “This one's a bit like me isn't she Nova. A lot more rude though. We should probably help her though, she seems to have exerted herself too much for one day. Poor thing needs a nap. What is this place? What were those things? I know you've met with Lord Osada, did he tell you anything? Why did we agree to this again?” Izumi liked to fire question after question when she had them, it generally flustered Nova, who responded to the various questions with one word answers that were various ways to say “I don't know.” Izumi seemed to want to get out of there and led the trio to a small hovel where they'd make their bed for the night.
