Warmth pervaded the morning air, undoubtedly a 'good-morning' from Amaterasu the gift giver as she shined brightly atop her perch in the sapphire sky above. Takahiro was awe struck by the clarity as clouds sailed unabated through a vast ocean of there own. His damp, naked feet fluttered back and forth in jubilation as they hung from the side of one of many weathered piers surrounding the small water-bound, fishing community of Hōseki-mura. As he cast his vision to the horizon, the juncture between two immense blue bodies the world began to feel much larger than he ever imagined and his imprint on it that much lighter he reasoned.
The waters beneath and all around him glistened in the distance while providing a clear, translucent view at the wildlife cohabitating below. Fish glided back and forth on a whim just below the surface, some seemed to laze about while others saw fit to mingle or explore there home. They varied in appearance: size, shape, color, anatomy, and after more than moments worth of observing Taka reasoned that the animals were all quite content living just about the same sort of existence with variable differences. Not being naïve to the complexities of biology due to Takagi’s teachings, he assumed that while the organisms were surely the result of different evolutionary paths they’d managed to carve out a method of survival that suited them. He knew if he had the time and proper training that he could one day catalog these behaviors to truly understand it all. It wasn’t necessary however, as a unpolished natural comparison in his head eventually led Takahiro to garner a different meaning from the beautiful microcosm of nature.
‘Different paths and approaches, but same result - same satisfaction. Why then is everything so black and white for humans... And not even really humans more like shinobi. Why must we meet the expectation of fitting this mold, falling into rank and file and devoting ourselves to living a regimented, controlled life? And till when? Till we have no youth to enjoy anymore? All squandered in the pursuit of ‘peace and order’… at times at the expense of being a threat to another people’s. It just doesn’t feel right.’
By the time Taka was done pondering this, both hands were firmly gripping the salted, stale wood on either side of him. He could feel frustration building in him; the negative wave of energy was unwelcome and as he stood with arms reaching for the heavens in a releasing stretch.
"Enough of that, now then what else does the village of Hōseki-mura have to offer an adventure-starved traveler such as myself!” he exclaimed in an admittedly cheesy, rhetorical fashion as if to motivate himself to do more than fall back into a lull by at the soothing water’s side. He collected his belongings; mainly clothes for travel namely sparingly striped cloak, a simple straw hat, shoes and such. Then with it all gathered amidst his arms, he began sauntering over and down the opposite side of the pier. His journey ended as quickly as it began, when as if a moth to a flame he noticed a trifecta of boats… Quaint structures, some obviously bearing the marks of past voyages and a fisherman’s home-baked attempts at performed repairs. With big glossy eyes full of curiosity he examined them all before settling on the one closest and easiest to clamor onto.
Or so he thought, before errant winds picked-up almost as if in an effort to thwart his would be attempt at a smooth, exit off the pier and first successful bout of piracy. Instead there he was a portion of his feet teetering on and off the edge wooden structure, with arms thrown about in opposition to his body. He convulsed in an effort to right his self and avoid a watery demise all the while unaware of anyone witnessing the foolery…
