- 5-6. The Art of Escape!
The Genin is taken into a spartan room, where the door is locked from the inside with all of their equipment. Tapping the ninja on their shoulder and wishing them luck, they’re placed under a genjutsu where they believe the proctor to shackle them with a plethora of chains, combination and padlocks and a strait jacket and leather feet straps for good measure. The ninja is told to attempt to escape the second the door closes behind him… however, the chains are little more than a powerful C rank genjutsu. A ninja ‘CAN’ beat it by undoing the locks, should they be fast enough, dexterous enough and smart enough or see through the gen with B-0 perception. But it will take time… and meanwhile, in the real world, the room begins to be filled with a toxic fume that due to the genjutsu, the user cannot perceive. As the gas begins to have an effect, dulling the user’s senses and poisoning them, the genjutsu will weaken before ultimately breaking, potentially revealing it, but, at that point, will the ninja still have enough time to escape and get the aid they’ll desperately need?
It was time for the second trial, the group she was with made their way to a stone building jutting out the side of a mountain. To her it seemed like a high security prison. Many guards patrolled the area and seemed to be on high alert. As they made their way inside the group was divided with three proctors per genin. That alone was enough to put her on edge as they went deeper inside the mountain. At first the walls and lighting was like you would expect any place to be, but as they went farther in the facility they took a darker theme. It looked like something out of a dungeon, like a horror story she was now part of.
The corridor they were walking through was lined in dark grey stone bricks, the sort you would see in an older structure or some ancient temple. Flanked on both sides by a proctor and one in front of her she was led through what seemed to be a never ending maze of passages lit by dull lights in the ceiling. She looked around only to be told to look forward. She snapped her head back forward and focused on the proctor leading her. The air inside seemed stale and they went farther and farther. She started to wonder just how long they had been walking as their was no clocks on the wall and no words being spoken. She didn't want to anger the proctors so she decided not to ask and they continued, her stress of not knowing what was going to happen building with every step they took. What seemed like forever they arrived to a doorway. "In you go." One of the proctors said and the other two gave a slight push so she walked into the room. The room was not big and it had the same grey brick color as outside, as well as the lighting was about the same. Misao had a look of shock! it seemed as though they were going to torture her for the trial. Fear swelled up inside her as they tapped her and started putting her arms in a straight jacket while another proctor secured her feet in straps. As if all that she was bound in was not enough they decided to add chains that hooked to the wall. At first she tried to struggle but with three people there and covered in chains she decided to save her strength as she had no idea what they would torture her with or on what subject. As they finished tieing her up they started to file out of the room one by one. The last proctor said one word. "Escape" Then the door slammed and locked.
Misao found as she wiggled and attempted to move that they had not taken her gear. While that normally would assure her it scared her this time. 'They must really have something bad in store for me if they decided to let me keep my stuff. I cant reach any of it though.' She thought still testing her bondage. She found she could still move her fingers surprisingly more then she thought so she decided to try and get to one of her kunai to attempt to cut some of the stuff off of her, or at least the jacket. She squirmed until she thought she had grabbed the ring of it but to no avail, she could not move enough to get to it yet alone use it to cut. The room seemed smaller and she got more desperate. Her breathing quickened and her heart started to race and yet, she started feeling drowsy. As if her effort triggered whatever was happening to her the more it assaulted her senses Terror was starting to take hold and tears started flowing down her face. The feeling of impending doom was so strong she felt she would drown in it. Instead, she concentrated on thoughts of her friends and village, of her goals and dreams. She would be strong. In what seemed a moment of clarity the thought came to her to try some jutsu. How long had it been since she had been locked she didn't know but she decided to try something different. "Henge no Jutsu" She said forming the hand signs for it with very limited mobility. She transformed into an even smaller version of herself, smaller in every way hoping to be able to just slip right out of the chains binding her. She felt her chakra activate and the change take place but, something was wrong. While she did change, the jacket and chains seemed to shrink with her. 'No! if I release the henge the chains will choke me to death!' She thought now in even more of a panic. Something snapped and though her thoughts were getting fuzzy she decided to attempt an escape again. 'Chains cant shrink.' She said it over and over in her head like a mantra. What did it mean? Was someone controlling the chains from outside? where they reacting to her chakra or was their another reason. She focused on the chains as a way to keep grounded in thought. If she slowed down or rested for a minute she thought she would lose her mind! 'Chains cant shrink, Chains cant shrink, Chains cant shrink.' Her head was throbbing as she continued her improvised mantra. Why was it so hard for her to think? She did not understand if it was just her fear making her thoughts jumbled or something else. 'Chains cant shrink, im not going crazy, chains cant shrink!' In a moment of clarity or desperation the word genjutsu came to mind. "Kai!" She yelled putting as much chakra as she could into a Dissipation in a last ditch effort. To her surprise The chains and jacket along with all the straps melted away.
Struggling to get to her feet she realized that whatever she had been breathing was not good for her health. It was no longer about the genin exams anymore only about survival. Her eyes drifted in and out of focus, if she was going to get out she needed to do it fast. With shaky hands she pulled out two senbon and started to work on picking the lock. The feeling of doom grew stronger and she fell to the floor. It took nearly all of her will power not to lose her breakfast from that morning and stand again. Without the genjutsu clouding her judgment she found it slightly easier to fight the effects of whatever was happening to her. She forced herself to calm down slightly. She knew she was shaking too bad to pick the lock but, inspecting the door closer she realized instead of picking the lock, she could have just opened the door all along.
She rushed out of the cell only to collapse unconscious the moment she stepped out. She had made it out just in time or so she thought before drifting to a deep sleep. After a while she woke up in a bed, apparently they had taken her to medical. 'Well I guess that means
I failed...' She thought, depressed that she had blown her chances. The clock ticked by and she felt like crawling in a hole and never coming out. How could she face her clan or village as a failure. She started to cry a little bit and rolled over to drift once again into a deep sleep. The next day she woke to hear a few other people talking outside of her room, one of the voices she recognized as one of the proctors that was with her as she went to the cell and that was enough to jar her out of her bed and to the door with hope to at least hear how she had done. "She cant sleep forever she has to move on to the next trial." The proctor said only to be admonished by who Misao could only guess was the doctor. "I understand that, however the amount she inhaled is what is causing this. She has to wake up on her own." At that Misao opened the door and nearly tripped into the two standing outside. She had to know if she passed or not. "You mean I passed?" She asked at least wanting to know the answer. The proctor turned to her with a serious face. "No im talking about the other pink haired genin that looks exactly like you. Yea you passed brat. Be glad, you were only a few seconds away from failing. Next time don't take so damn long." Misao nearly jumped out of her own skin she was so excited she passed. It didn't take long for her to get ready and exit the medical building. She was filled with renewed ambition and glad she had not blown her chance.

- Jutsu:
- Name: Transformation Technique (変化の術 ~ Henge no Jutsu)
Canon/Custom: Canon.
Rank: E.
Type: Supplementary.
Element: None.
Range: Self.
Specialty: Ninjutsu.
Duration: -5 every other post.
Cooldown: Duration +1 post.
Description: Given all the missions ninja are assigned to--battle, intelligence gathering, diversions--this is a priceless ninjutsu. It is typically used to change into people other than oneself, but one also has the ability to change into animals, plants, and even inanimate objects like weapons; however, the object can be no smaller than 1 foot long in at least one dimension. Despite this, this technique has an abundance of uses. The transformation of a master of this technique (which is generally an Academy graduation requirement) makes the user physically and visually the same as the transformed person or object in question, giving the user the exact mass and physical qualities of whatever they transformed into. This is one of the most basic ninjutsu, as such most shinobi know how to perform it. This technique does not give a ninja the abilities or jutsu of a person they transform into, nor can give the user the damaging ability of a weapon (however, this can be used as a bluff). Sensory techniques can easily pick out someone transformed using this jutsu: the user's chakra would be active, as well as the fact that their biological functions and scent are not masked by this jutsu. Costs 5 chakra on activation, and an additional 5 chakra every other post after that.
Name: Genjutsu Dissipation (幻術解 ~ Genjutsu Kai)
Canon/Custom: Canon.
Rank: E.
Type: Defensive/Supplementary.
Element: None.
Range: Self.
Specialty: Genjutsu.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Cooldown: 4 posts.
Description:A technique taught at the Ninja Academy requiring chakra control. By using Kai, a ninja disrupts their own flow of chakra, then starts it again. This allows a ninja to escape from illusions, provided he or she has figured out that a Genjutsu is active. Ninja can use this ability on their comrades to save them from genjutsu, and possibly other techniques that invade their chakra system. It is possible for this technique to fail, if the user misjudges the power of the genjutsu and does not put in enough chakra to stop their chakra flow.
This is an E-ranked technique, but has variable chakra costs.
Genin: 20 chakra for a D-ranked Genjutsu, 40 for C. Genin cannot dispel B-ranked Genjutsu.
Chuunin: 30 chakra for a C-ranked Genjutsu, 50 for B. Chuunin cannot dispel A-ranked Genjutsu.
Special Jounin: 40 chakra for a B-ranked Genjutsu, 60 for A. Toku-Jou cannot dispel S-ranked Genjutsu.
Jounin: 50 chakra for an A-ranked Genjutsu, 70 for S. Jounin cannot dispel SS-ranked Genjutsu.
Sannin/Kage: 60 chakra for an S-ranked Genjutsu, 90 for SS. Only Genjutsu that specifically say that they cannot be Dissipated (such as Tsukuyomi) are the exception.
~Kai can dispel multiple genjutsu at once, but only on the user or another person, not both. The highest-rank genjutsu costs the normal amount to Dissipate, then the second costs the normal amount -5, the third -10, and so on. So, if a genin was caught under a C-rank and two D-rank genjutsu, it would cost 40 chakra to dispel the C-rank jutsu, 15 to dispel the first D-rank, and 10 to dispel the second D-rank.
