Izumi

A-rank
Trial Number 1:
So this was it, it was time for Izumi’s first trial of the Chuunin Exams. The young woman had emotions flying through her head, excitement, fear, anxiety, pride, the emotions kept swimming through her mind like stray sparks from a flame, ever burning into and out of existence. She allowed herself to be overwhelmed for now. She figured that if she allowed her mind to run wild at this moment that it would be easier for her to keep collected when the trial actually started.  She was being led to the arena where she was to start her first trial. Izumi wanted to be sure she didn’t show too much of her ability in this first trial in case she was being scouted. Izumi didn’t know why anyone would be scouting her in particular this early, however it wasn’t worth it to take the chance. Besides, if she was able to show very little of her abilities here it would make it even less likely that she had to be worried about being scouted during her other trials since she might seem too bland or boring of a contestant for them to worry. Izumi wanted to save her abilities for when she absolutely needed them rather than to simply show off and intimidate the other contestants. Izumi’s outfit was quite typical for a day she knew would include a mission of some kind. The young woman was wearing leather tights and a long-sleeved shirt made of light breathable fabric with her hair tied up out of her face in a loose bun, the symbol of the village she chose to sponsor her displayed proudly on the headband tied around her left bicep. On the headband was the symbol of the hidden mist village. Izumi had chosen them simply because they were the village she disliked the least of her choices.

From the sounds of the crowd outside it seemed that Izumi was about to be let into her arena. First, she had to be informed of her task. The proctor in the brilliant robes with the symbol of the cloud on it spoke to her, handing Izumi a pouch with ten senbon and a bandolier with ten kunai before informing her of what her task was ”A proctor will be waiting in the arena. Once you enter he will create clones of himself and they will all split up trying to hide from you. Your task is to find the clones and destroy them. Should you injure the proctor, you will be considered to have failed your trial. Good luck. Izumi felt her heart racing and her anxiety reaching its climax. Outside the gate before her that was dividing Izumi from destiny, she could hear the roars of the crowd. It would appear that they were ready to start and in moments the gate opened revealing a cityscape. Izumi saw a man standing in the street ahead looking directly at her. He stood at a distance of about eight meters away from her. Izumi assumed that it was some sort of trap and refused to approach, instead opting for an attack aimed from where she was currently standing. The young Karisuma took three senbon from the pouch between her fingers and took aim. As a precursor to the thrown attack, one of the fingertips on her left hand began to crackle to life with ration energy. Izumi could feel that there was other ration energy at work in the area, however she couldn’t tell much more than that given that it was not her main attunement. At the sight of her sparkling fingers, the man standing before her would adopt a more combat oriented stance, ready to avoid the attack that came at him. Izumi would first throw the three senbon in quick succession, one towards its left eye, one towards its right eye, and another aimed for his throat. The man saw the attack coming and moved to avoid it. As it moved, Izumi would notice that it seemed to have a strange flicker about it as it moved. Guessing based on the information Izumi had, she fired sparks prepared in her left hand at the figure that was already in motion aiming to hit the target in his face. The spark hit the man on his cheek and he reached up to grasp his face for before dissipating into a flash of lightning. One down, three to go. Izumi told herself while looking about her surroundings searching for hints of where to go next.

Izumi was finally confident that it was safe for her to go into the street where the clone of the man once was. Surely the purpose of that clone was to let the others know she had entered. This was a test of her training thus far and Izumi had no illusions that it would be easy. As she stepped into the street she heard a whizzing sound and felt a sudden bite of pain in her left shoulder. A kunai had bit into her flesh causing her to start bleeding, pain stabbing at her. Izumi let out a quick cry of pain at the wound and removed the blade, throwing it to the ground.  Izumi looked up towards where she thought it may have originated from just in time to see another one heading straight towards her. This time Izumi was quick enough, catching the knife and sending it back the direction it came from.  Izumi hadn’t hoped to actually hit anything with this counter throw. Instead she hoped that it might draw out the foe. Izumi ducked into cover down a nearby alley as she saw movement ahead. It appeared that the assailant was indeed repositioning itself. Behind her, Izumi could feel the hairs on her neck start to stand up as if being beckoned by an electric charge nearby. Pulling one of the kunai off the bandolier, she turned and thrust as quick as she could. Izumi just barely missed a copy of the man she had seen at the start of her trial. However it was now exposed, it’s attempt to sneak up on the woman failing it began to run up the wall in order to get on the rooftops and off to safety. Izumi quickly formed the sign of the tiger and let forth a bright globe of flame which impacted spectacularly with the fleeing clone bursting it into a beautiful blend of fire and lightning. . Two down, two to go. Izumi was feeling confident, and adrenaline was preventing her from worrying about the pain in her arm. Izumi climbed the wall that was now scorched from the combination of the flames and the lightning hoping to get a better vantage that would allow her to spot where the kunai which had done the damage had originated.

Izumi noticed the knife heading straight for her eye just in time to duck her head down and avoid it from blinding her, or worse, killing her. As the kunai stuck into the wall behind her Izumi vaulted up and over on to the roof. The Karisuma teen thought she had pinpointed the direction of the attack, and threw two knives and a three senbon in quick succession in the direction of the attack. She knew from her last attempt at a counter attack on this annoying assailant that pinpointing its location was likely to cause it to shift and find a new angle to attack from. Sure enough, she saw a flicker of lightning in the distance and unleashed another barrage of projectiles towards the enemy’s predicted path. Izumi saw another burst of ration signaling an attack well aimed, Three down, one to go. Izumi was sure she could succeed at this point, her long hours of training with Syekren while traveling to the Cloud village had paid off it seems. The young woman looked around searching for any signs of the final clone or even of the man himself. Finally she noticed them. On the other side of the arena, the man and his doppelganger stood next to each other practically begging for Izumi to come after them.

Izumi had one last problem to death with, she didn’t know at first glance which was the real and which was the clone. Izumi approached nonetheless, victory and defeat both within her sight. As she approached, she would notice that both of them were smiling and had their arms crossed waiting for the teen to approach them. She looked back and forth between the two identical figures. Trying to figure out which one was real and which was a mere construct of lightning and chakra. They spoke in unison, ”We’re done hiding. If you can figure out which one of us Is the real one, you pass. Attack the right one and you’ve won we won’t avoid it no matter your choice.” At first Izumi could swear that they were identical. That was of course until Izumi’s trained eyes finally saw it, a stranger flicker about the visage of one of the figures. Izumi, knowing that she could finally treat the injury should she be victorious, pulled the kunai from her chest finally and stabbed into the figure she’d chosen as the copy. Her eyes had not deceived her, and the figure in fact burst into a spontaneous arc of electricity before fading away into nothingness. Izumi smiled, relieved to have completely her first task of the Chuunin Exams. Not wanting to reveal that she was a medic, Izumi waited until she was in private to heal her wound.
