1 Ibuki Sun Jul 02, 2017 2:18 pm
Sō
D-rank
Clan Name: 息吹 "Breath"
Location: Kumogakure & Sunagakure
Specialization: Any
Elements: Fūton or Raiton
Clan History: Was it cliché to start with "it all started with" a single sound? It was said to have been the Perfect Chord, a sovereign set of notes that was the most beautiful thing to hear in this world - and that was objective fact, it was scientifically the most pleasing thing to the ears of all creatures. Yes, a people such as the Ibuki would know - years after this story arose, they came into the study of sound, its properties, what at all it did. Years, decades, a century flew by, the entire people oblivious and perhaps deliberately uncaring for the Shinobi World Wars that unfolded around them. It was not until the end of the third that they even opened themselves to be known by the Great Lands - of course, they did not vouch for their own inclusion by revealing their secrets.
They were, for a time, laid low by the horrors of the Fourth Shinobi World War, one of their settlements directly assaulted by a long-range Tailed Beast Bomb. They could not have known this, not being privy to world affairs, somewhat by their own will. After such an inherent dissonance, however, the remainder was scattered to the corners of the world, making havens out of the more remote reaches of the world, in deserts and mountains.
Life, to an Ibuki, is not a game, but they are not so serious as not to enjoy the melody of the world unfolding before them. Due to their sensitive hearing, they hear harmonies all around them, thus being quite literally in-tune with everything around them.
Kekkei Genkai Name: 固音 Kōn, "Solid Sound"
Kekkei Genkai Description: If one were to hear the name of the Ibuki's ability, it would actually be a fairly straightforward description in a superficial sense. As an additional bonus, those with this Kekkei Genkai can use multiple elements in the same jutsu (so long as they don't create Advanced Release-like effects). They can learn their specializations 1 rank earlier by using 1000 more words to learn them, and raise their quaternary specialization past B-rank using 7000 and 12500 words, up to S-rank.
- Producing:
The main ability of Solid Sound is indeed to vibrate nonsolids in such a way that its vibrations act upon other matter as if it were indeed a solid. They move these vibrations and the corresponding area they vibrate becomes solid as well. These jutsu are notable for having their corresponding elemental advantage but not the elemental weakness. This is due to vibrations not having the flammability, susceptibility to electrical resistance, etc. that their spawning elements have.- Lightning Release is versatile, in that it only produces and manipulates the vibrations, able to infuse them into things they are touching, regardless of chakra infusion. This allows weapon-type constructs to phase through them as if they were part of them. While Wind Release is limited to vibrating gases, it can do so with much more ease; its constructs are not stopped by particulate matter or solids with gaps in them, even when controlled by chakra, due to airflow. (This applies only to chakra-based techniques.) Earth and Water Release have greater control over vibrations through larger quantities of their elements rather than the localized form, granting them +10m to their unidirectional range (+5m radial).
- Solid Sound constructs cannot be broken due to not being made of anything or even being anything more than loosely bound by chakra; thus, the best one can do is disperse them for the next post. An Ibuki can even willfully release even just a part of its form for but a moment, allowing things to pass through it; doing so does not compromise the functionality of the rest of the sound-form, regardless of what would happen with an identically-formed physical item. Likewise, they move through air, not against it, granting them minimal speed (if applicable) The main boon of Solid Sound constructs is that they cannot be seen, save for as a sort of shimmering, slow distortion, a very faint outline (depending on frequency) in the medium which they're created, detectable by Perception tier-0 of one rank higher than the Ibuki's ninja rank.
- Each Ibuki starts with a single free D-rank passive jutsu of their creation, a manifestation of this ability; it doesn't require a chakra pool reduction due to being a custom clan option. An offensive version creates a weapon, for example; a projectile weapon can have a maximum range of its jutsu rank with a firing rate of one projectile per post. A defensive one creates a personal safe area, akin to an armor, which they can grant to someone else within a range identical to the ranged weapon's, above. Other supplementary uses may be found as well, depending on the shape the Ibuki chooses. These must fit within chosen specs; a non-Buki-user cannot create a sword, for example.
The passive version is weak due to its fleeting nature - the weapon acts as if it were a jutsu of D-rank for damage purposes, and the armor fully blocks E-rank basic attacks, lessening C or D-rank damage by 1 rank. Solid Sound armor or weaponry cannot interact with jutsu without additional chakra enhancement. At B-rank and S-rank, you can increase rank of this passive ability by 1 by training it using full wordcounts for the desired rank, but no Ryo.
At S-rank, an Ibuki can train a second passive-jutsu manifestation of Solid Sound following the rules above, of C-rank (as if they had just reached a ninja rank of B).
- Lightning Release is versatile, in that it only produces and manipulates the vibrations, able to infuse them into things they are touching, regardless of chakra infusion.
- Resonance:
- Solid Sound constructs, and things affected by sound jutsu (such as a kunai infused with chakra to vibrate) will, once per post per jutsu, impart via physical contact a lasting reverberation. You must touch the target with a physical manifestation, like a Solid Sound construct or a limited area of vibration; no AoEs or wave-type sounds can be used to impart Resonance, except with a B-rank jutsu that imparts 1 Resonance per post as its only effect. An A-rank jutsu can impart 2 Resonance per post with the same restrictions.
The Resonance is low in amplitude but almost always outside the normal auditory spectrum, making it relatively undetectable outside the hearing of an Ibuki. You can use this to your advantage by causing that ongoing vibration to harmonize with an outside source.
By paying 5 chakra and expending one Resonance on the target, a single Supplementary sound technique can ignore initial interaction with jutsu on that object or person, so long as such interaction would solely stem from chakra. (For example, an earthen dome of sufficient density/rank would still dampen out a sound jutsu well enough to defend against it, but a simple chakra shield can't drown it out because it's coming from the inside too.)
A single entity can have multiple 'stacks' of Resonance based on the number of times they've made contact with a sound construct or sound-influenced object; up to 2 as a Genin, the maximum increasing by 1 for each rank higher the Ibuki is. An entity or object bearing Resonance is affected by vibration-based non-concussive, non-Solid Sound jutsu 5m further from its maximum range per Resonance.
Specific jutsu may utilize this Resonance in other ways.
- Receiving:
- An Ibuki trains for a long time before being able to solidify nonsolids using sound. They can hear into the ultra- and infrasonic auditory spectra, giving them acute hearing even into amplitudes (and thus volumes) difficult to perceive; this allows them to pick up on low-frequency, low-amplitude sounds, like those coming from behind physical barriers such as walls.
They can use this as a sensory ability, detecting even those who erase or otherwise hamper vibrations due to the vast majority of such techniques only erasing those sounds audible to the human ear. In a metaphorical sense, this makes the unformed sounds of 'inaudible' frequency into a sort of 'solid', perhaps strengthening its tie to the name.- It acts as if a jutsu of 1 rank lower than the Perception stat for the purposes of sensing through stealth techniques. The range is 2m at E-0 Perception, 5m at D-0, 10m at C-0, 20m at B-0, 40m at A-0, 80m at S-0, and 150m at S-3. They add 50m to this range for every tier of SS-rank Perception they take.
- Using a burst of 10 chakra, an Ibuki can temporarily double their passive range for 1 post. Using 15 chakra instead, this post of detection also counts as 1 rank higher than the Perception stat for detection purposes.
- It acts as if a jutsu of 1 rank lower than the Perception stat for the purposes of sensing through stealth techniques. The range is 2m at E-0 Perception, 5m at D-0, 10m at C-0, 20m at B-0, 40m at A-0, 80m at S-0, and 150m at S-3. They add 50m to this range for every tier of SS-rank Perception they take.
Drawbacks:
- Constructs of Solid Sound fail to hold up to the solidity of true physical forms. However, this only becomes apparent when a sufficient amount of force is applied via said construct, the vibrations having to move - thus destabilizing slightly - to mimic an attack. Moving a Solid Sound construct to directly attack with it results in its damage being lowered by 1 rank for that attack. (This should be detailed within the jutsu.)
- Ibuki focus heavily in what they do with the powers they have, given the amount of possibilities they hold. They, thus, have little reason to search out more sources of possibilities that they already have within their reach. They start with one element, which must be Wind or Lightning. They can train for 1500 words to learn their secondary element at C-rank for no Ryo cost, and their tertiary at A-rank. (They cannot learn a fourth element, nor can they take "Hesitant (Element)" as a negative SC.)
- As a result of their extensive training of their sense of hearing, they are vulnerable to frequency and amplitude-based non-concussive sound abilities, being affected for 1 post longer than normal, even after its duration subsides. This type of ability is mainly the training of a biological variation, and comes with other such deviations that are not very beneficial; you must take two of the following SCs, unable to balance them with a positive.
- Spoiler:
- Code:
[b]Name:[/b] Blind
[b]Type:[/b] Negative
[b]Description:[/b] This individual is completely visually impaired, and cannot perceive any form of visual stimuli. No item or jutsu can be used to restore 'their own' vision to this individual.
[b]Name:[/b] Born Ill
[b]Type:[/b] Negative
[b]Description:[/b] This shinobi is born with an illness or natural defect. Because of this, he/she has certain side effects in battle that reduce their natural capacities. After fighting for eight posts, he/she will begin to feel the effects of the illness set in. Once this happens, he/she's speed and strength will be lowered by one tier. Additionally, the actual effects of the illness or defect can be specified in character.
[b]Name[/b]: Feeble
[b]Type[/b]: Negative (Active)
[b]Details[/b]: Whether it be due to genetics or simply age, this person is simply just weak. Their muscles just aren't comparable to most people, and as such they suffer from a -1 tier to their strength at all times.
[b]Name:[/b] Frail
[b]Type:[/b] Negative
[b]Description:[/b] This individual is incredibly physically frail. They bruise easily, and their bones are more brittle than most. Where most individuals would suffer a simple fracture, an individual with frail will suffer a broken bone. Wounds they receive also bleed for longer without medical attention.
[b]Name:[/b] Lame
[b]Type:[/b] Negative
[b]Description:[/b] This individual is unable to walk, and must rely on a contraption or wheelchair to be mobile. No Item or jutsu can restore their own means to walk and the user is unable to move with any supernatural speed on the ground without viable means.
- Resonance is no sort of perpetual-motion machine; if the targeted item stops moving, it stops creating vibrations in the substances around it, which leads to the end of its own vibrations. An entity or object loses all Resonance 1 post after it stops moving. Heat, electricity, or other effects may also need to be terminated., and being touched or otherwise handled resets the necessary time.
- An Ibuki must always be creating some sort of vibration to use their Solid Sound constructs or derived jutsu; if not by their own movements, by creating a hum or other constant sound. This makes them constantly at risk for detection by others who can hear them, so long as it isn't negated by other means (such as masking the sound's ability to be heard by using a jutsu). The base range for detection via the sound of the construct1 is 2m at E-0 Perception, with +1m at each additional tier (this being in addition to stated ranges in the Perception stat). Their Solid Sound constructs vanish on the post after they stop making vibrations.
- As a general rule, any sound-based jutsu, not just the clan's, can't be used if a medium for them to travel through (i.e. a form of matter that the ninja can manipulate vibrations within) is not present. A vacuum, for example, removes most atmospheric gases from an area.
