Clan History:
Bakeneko has been has a variety of meanings. Monster cat. Ghost cat. But the most accurate translation would be “Changing Cat,” as that is the defining characteristic of bakeneko. The word bakeneko (化け猫) consist of two kanji; “Bake-“(化け) means to change form, to transform. The kanji is often used with yokai, and indeed a general term for monster in Japanese is obake (御化け) meaning “changer.” “-neko” (猫), of course, just means “cat.” Bakeneko, just as their name implies, are defined by their ability to transform. They are connected to the spirit world and are a type of demon who are cat like and can transform. In the world, there are various different legends about them such as how aged cats would turn into bakeneko and would live to kill their owners. Some folk beliefs say they maintain a cat form, but they are able to speak human language and wear human clothes. Some legends say that these cat-shaped bakeneko put towels on their heads and dance on their hind legs. Much, much rarer legends are humans who change shape into cats. Turns out, these are much more than legend. Banneko are demons to simply put. The Legendary Biju were quite similar to demons but were more of man made chakra constructs that were deeply rooted into the creation of man. Yokai (aka demons) are more spiritual manifestations that use chakra to affect the physical realm and are most commonly found in the Land of Demons. Somewhere along the cat they changed from being simply demonic cats, to catlike humans but still retain their bakeneko origins. Like all other yokai, they managed to mix themselves with humans after possessing some and have children. These children are known as Hanyo, half human half yokai. Monogatari are the general term for bakeneko hanyo after a man named Monogatari that first discovered them and even made friends with a few. He introduced them to ninjutsu and similar arts before passing away. He was so kind to them that many bakeneko who were friends of his traveled along him and help guide him to the spirit world where he now resides. Monogatari now lives as a spirit and helps hanyo along who have trouble finding their place between the world. However he has his hands full. Many bakeneko tend to be mischievous one way or the other, taking time to summon ghostly fireballs to scare off humans or reanimate corpses to taunt the living or trick them with illusions leading them to their death. All these habits make it typical for most of them to take ninjutsu, puppetry, or genjutsu.
Bakeneko Hanyo: Lifeforce:
Compared to full blooded bakeneko yokai who live up to 1000 years, bakeneko hanyo live up to 450 years. The fact other clans, human clans at that such as the Hinode can live up to 700 years due to practically being immortals vexes them. Seeing as how humans are ultimately weaker compared to them, even if they are only half bloods, it makes no sense that they can live longer. Age is pretty big to yokai as it shows how long one has survived and the wisdom they have. Of course these numbers are a bit skewed as once the bakeneko yokai and hanyo perish in the realm of flesh, their spirits moves to an ethereal realm for some more thousands of years before disappearing or being reincarnated in some new form. Bakeneko hanyo age like normal human up to 10 years old before aging slower. For every 10 years that pass, they age 1 year. After 100 human years pass, for every 20 years, they age 1 year. After 400 years, they age like normal humans.
Bakenek Hanyo: Between the Worlds
As beings that are not quite demons nor human, they need to shift forms in order to fit in between the worlds. As such they can change form into small cats (two tails can turn into large cats), half demons that have their human and demon features combined, or into a normal human (at least appearance wise) whenever they wish. They even can travel to the spirit world however they can never do so in combat.

Kekkei Genkai Name: Banneko Hanyo
Kekkei Genkai Description:
Bakeneko hanyo, are simply put just as the name suggest. They are demon cat half bloods who are half yokai (demon) of the cat spirits and half human. They are a strange mix of the two and are inherently stronger than humans but much weaker than true demons. They are born either as cats or humans or both and raised either in the spirit world, human world, or places with plenty of spiritual energy, typically the land of demons. They have the inherit ability to trick and transform so they can make the illusions they are actual demons or normal humans without spending any chakra or turning into actual spirits to travel between this world or the neck (typically not in combat as it is risky to do and take a full post to enter the spirit world and two posts to travel back) as well as some other strange inherit traits that set them apart.
Bakeneko Hanyo: Anatomy
- Claws: Bakeneko Hanyo have retractable claws from knuckles/paws/fingers that cause piercing/cutting damage one rank lower than the shinobi. Fangs follow the same principle and are half an inch in length.
- Tails: Bakeneko Hanyo are born with cat tails that are 2/3 thirds their overall height and are equal to one rank lower than the shinobi’s strength SC/ -3 STR. Like normal cats, their tails allow them to have added balance and maneuver in the air when fall to allow them to always land on feet (fall damage from great heights is reduced in half). Once they are older and more power, they can earn a 2nd tail at SS Ninja Rank for 10k wc. Doing so will allow the proper banneko transformation to cost 30 less chakra and tail will be -2 STR permanently/ -1 STR one in transformation.
*They have cat ears too but they act similar to human one with no special affect*
Bakeneko Hanyo: Predator
Bakeneko hanyo are like cats, similar to that of the ninneko and nekomata but their demonic heritage make them that much more deadlier. Felines are natural highly intelligent and their keen senses make them true predators. Their eyes are better than most and they can see perfectly in the dark, even colors just in a dimmer setting than daytime. These traits grant bakeneko hanyo passive stat boosts:
- +1 to speed due to agility
- +1 to perception and reaction time
Bakeneko Hanyo: True Form
At the point of panic and near death, when the monogatari is sustained near fatal wounds/low chakra (25% max chakra pool) or the near death of a close companion, will trigger a minor bakeneko transformation where the user will grow deformed two tails, grow up to 5m tall to scale, frenzy turns user numb, and +1 SPD/PER/REA become +2 with tail -2 STR instead of the normal -3. This frenzy state last 2 posts and upon the end of it, the user will pass out. It cost -25 chakra upon involuntary activation. In this mode they are enraged and will do anything possible to eliminate the source of their wrath. If an ally tries to stop them or step in their way, the bakeneko will attack them as well. In the frenzy state, they cannot do jutsu requiring handseals or with preparation posts. When the monogatari are A-rank, they can do 5k training thread to active a proper bakeneko transformation that can be activated at their will. In this state, the user turns 10m tall to scale, numb, proper two tails -2 STR instead of -3, and +1 SPD/PER/REA become +2, claws will do one rank higher weapon damage than themselves for 130 chakra to maintain this form for 5 posts and not pass out afterwards. The transformation is different at SS Ninja Rank (refer to Bakeneko Hanyo: Anatomy)
Drawbacks:
Bakeneko Hanyo: Strange Anatomy
Bakeneko hanyo are not quite human, not quite demon. They are some strange in between of both worlds, not entirely belonging to one or the other. Medical ninjutsu is suited for humans and there isn't any need for it for demons, therefore it is a bit tricky for hanyo and won't work as well. And the transformation between their yokai, hanyo, and human form leave them disorientated because it doesn't flesh out well leaving them weaken in some areas.
- Pharmacophobia [Cannot balance with a positive]
- -2 endurance/-1 strength
- cannot take mighty/bulky/stamina
Bakeneko Hanyo: Aquaphobia
Bakeneko are cats, demonic heritage cannot say otherwise. Like the ninneko and nekomata, bakeneko hanyo’s greatest enemy is water. They have a natural fear of water from their feline origins and thus will stay as far as it as possible and prefer not to go anywhere near it. Because they fear it so much, they do not spend as much time learning how to defend against it therefore suiton attacks lose their elemental weakness to the bakeneko hanyo’s katon and in fact do become superior in interaction against a bakeneko hanyo's katon.
Bakeneko Hanyo: Bad History
Bakeneko are known to be tricksters, liars, and generally not to be trust lest you want to be spirited away. Although humans do not always recognize their demonic heritage, something internal inside them knows there is something mysterious about them. Seeing their strange appearances, shopkeepers won’t give them a fair price. Missions are more difficult to do since the hanyo have to go the extra mile to complete the same work. And forming bonds with humans are hard since hanyo generally dislike humans and their weaker halves. Only ninneko and nekomata do they get along well and these drawbacks don't apply when socializing, taking missions, or purchasing items from them and only them. Canine and Inuzuka on the other hand feel even more wary around the Bakeneko Hanyo so the drawbacks go from +10 to +20 for socials, missions, and items.
- +10% social, mission, item costs
- Cannot take haggler or any ryo reduction for aforementioned increased costs
