Hey! Names NDDZ for now, needed a placeholder before I thought of an actual character name. I've roleplayed quite a bit but this site is new for me so I'll see how it goes! Also, quick question: is Genjutsu worth pursuing on here? It seems there are no pre-made Genjustu on the site which makes it difficult to ascertain the power of certain Genjutsu. Thoughts?

Hey there! Welcome to Saga! Genjutsu is pretty cool as long as you're willing to work with the mods to get your Jutsu to a reasonable level :) hope to see you around the site

Hey, I am Kenji. Welcome to saga. That is a really good question. I would say it is worth pursuing, I have had a blast so far.

As for ascertaining the power, offensive Genjutsu are essentially used to debuff the opponent, so you can follow the jutsu rules on what debuffs are allowed per rank. As a rule of thumb, I would reserve any Genjutsu that robs an opponent of an entire sense or faculty(blindness, deaf, paralysis, etc) for A rank and above but there is always room to negotiate.

Finally, try your best to implement creative and reasonably avoidable triggers, or a multiple means to escape the Genjutsu. If you app a Genjutsu that only requires eye contact, or the opponent be within a certain range, or some other difficult to avoid trigger, I would suggest doing your best to make that Genjutsu weaker for its respective rank.

Regardless of what specialties you choose, I hope you have fun.

So now, what about the canon Genjutsu that only uses sounds and no hand signs? It doesn't have a lot of info on it except that it doesn't use hand signs. Would that be high?

Another good question.

I will start by saying this, no matter how much we want to include everything from canon as it is, sometimes it can open the proverbial pandora box, and cause some trouble (everyone may start applying for unavoidable sound paralysis genjutsu).

I am not a jutsu moderator so these are just my thoughts: for sound Genjutsu, because they are inherently difficult to avoid, I would suggest having the sound trigger require a medium to high degree of concentration on the user's part, leading to some drawbacks and making the user vulnerable in some way, or making the Genjutsu relatively weak for its rank.

Other than that, there are no restrictions as far as I know of on using sound based Genjutsu. Therefore, yes, you may create a sound based Genjtusu just like in canon, but I would suggest you try to balance it because it is inherently difficult to avoid.

As for it being too powerful or high, try your best to work within the jutsu guidelines and heed the guidance of the moderators.

Welcome! We have reason to expect that Genjutsu will see some changes pretty soon, so be on the lookout for those.
