Shinkō FAHfQ33
Clan Name: Shinkō

Meaning "Inner Light, Intuitive Wisdom". The clan believes in walking a Path leading towards Divinity and Illumination of any form. This is mostly achieved by cultivating their own abilities - in favour of, or against others.

Location: Scattered

There are several small monasteries where the clan members live. These monasteries do not exclude members of other clans, but only the Shinkō can reach True Faith (KKG).

Specialisation: Genjutsu (Primary)

Following in the footsteps of the great kami Inari Okami, all Shinkō believe being a trickster is the one true way to gain deeper understanding of the mind and soul, as well as being granted the blessing of the greatest trickster kami.

Elements: Katon (Primary)

The mythical Foxfire burns brightly within all of them, the only true Key towards Divine Illumination.

Shinkō HhU72Pp
Clan History:
Inari Okami - kami of foxes, fertility, rice, tea and sake, of agriculture and industry, ever promoting cultivation and growth, cunning and wit. He/She/It has always been a popular divine to follow, and the Shinkō didn't think differently.

Part monk, part priest, the Shinkō search to cultivate their own abilities and insight by following in the footsteps of the divine, preaching that true wisdom can only come from facing both dark and light in the world. To achieve this, the body and the mind must be strengthened, martial arts must be matched with mental arts. The monastery can only become a beacon for those in search of faith by wandering the world and understanding what it is about.

At least, that was the original idea behind the faith.

As time moved on, the path towards enlightenment has often been swayed by the tom-foolery of mortals. What was once a noble goal has been distorted to a mockery lead by mortal minds and sights of grandeur. While it's true that, at it's base, the faith of the Shinkō is still oriented at following the footsteps of the great trickster kami, mortal arrogance has tainted it with pride and misconceptions. During the course of history, scarred by the many skirmishes and wars that have littered the world, the monasteries began to develop two distinct paths.

One path oriented itself towards the mind and the soul, believing wit and cunning were superior to the body. Rather than to confront the realities of the world, they turned their noses to the Heavens and aimed to enrich the world with culture, believing that they were the anchor pulling down the Heavens so mortals could receive enlightenment. They became known as the Celestial Kitsune of the Shinkō.

The other path oriented itself towards the body and the heart, believing a strong vessel was needed to endure the hardships of life and confront the broken reality of the scars that the Wars of old had left behind. However, much like the Kitsune, they too believed it was their task to become a paragon for society in their own right. They became the Nogitsune, both feared and respected for their strength of being.

Even though the two paths seemingly walk an opposite road, the Shinkō generally believe that both paths are nothing more or less than two sides of the same coin. While they certainly do not always agree on the approach of things, both do believe that each path sows and cultivates growth for the inner Self and the world around them.

As of lately, with faith in kami and divine generally dwindling by the year, the monasteries of the Shinkō consist of small communities scattered throughout the Saga lands where they often serve the small villages as sources of wisdom, hired muscle for agriculture or general industry and the occasional sparring partner or ally of travelling shinobi.

Kekkei Genkai Name: Tails of True Faith

The tails of the Shinkō follow a similar nature as the kage bunshin. While they are tangible, they are but a shadowed manifestation of the Shinkō's chakra reserves. They are usually (silver) white in colour, but other colours are known to appear.

The Shinkō take pride in their amount of tails, considering them a gift from the kami Inari Okami, displaying their chakra power and level of understanding of the Self.

Kekkei Genkai Description:

The KKG of the clan allows the Shinkō to bolster their jutsu with hidden reserves and untapped growth potential. The benefits to this translates in either a boost to maximum chakra, or a one time boost to a jutsu.

While the chakra bonus is permanent and stacks, the +1 to jutsu effectiveness doesn't stack. The newly acquired version of the ability replaces the weaker version, thus at all times the Shinkō can boost a jutsu only once per thread - in other words, it functions like a ranking jutsu with a one-time boosting ability.

Each tail, however, can only be grown after deep meditation - an enlightening path of self-confrontation, self-awareness and the improvement of one's own weaknesses based on experience in life. This must be done with the help of a word count no less than 500 multiplied by the number of tails to reach, and a ryo cost of 250 multiplied by the number of tails to reach - consider the ryo as donations to the monastery and cost for offerings towards Inari Okami.

  • 2-tails
    Rank: Genin
Bonus: Once per thread, boost the effectiveness of a D rank jutsu or lower by 1
    Cost: 1000 wc, 500 ryo
  • 3-tails
    Rank: Chuunin
Bonus: Once per thread, boost the effectiveness of a C rank jutsu or lower by 1
    Cost: 1500 wc, 750 ryo
  • 4-tails
    Rank: Chuunin
Bonus: The maximum chakra is raised with +5.
    Cost: 2000 wc, 1000 ryo
  • 5-tails
    Rank: Sp. Jounin
Bonus: Once per thread, boost the effectiveness of a B rank jutsu or lower by 1
    Cost: 2500 wc, 1250 ryo
  • 6-tails
    Rank: Sp. Jounin
Bonus: The maximum chakra is raised with +5
    Cost: 3000 wc, 1500 ryo
  • 7-tails
    Rank: Jounin
Bonus: Once per thread, boost the effectiveness of an A rank jutsu or lower by 1
    Cost: 3500 wc, 1750 ryo
  • 8-tails
    Rank: Jounin
Bonus: The maximum chakra is raised with +5
    Cost: 4000 wc, 2000 ryo
  • 9-tails
    Rank: Sannin/Kage
Bonus: The maxmimum chakra is raised with +5
    Cost: 4500 wc, 2250 ryo

Drawbacks:

  • The Flame of Light brings Truth
Because of their intimate relation with illumination and light (produced by fire) and the mythology of 'Foxfire' granted by the kami Inari Okami, Shinkō take +1 damage from all Suiton jutsu. and may not take Suiton as an element.

In addition, their devotion to the Foxfire leaves little room for training of many another elements. Shinkō do not have access to a fourth element, but their Fire Release can take on a different colour depending the path they walk: silver/white for the Kitsune & purple/grey for the Nogitsune.

  • The Road to Divinity is halted by Stagnation
The Shinkō do not only fight to hone their skills, but also to maintain the faith in the Kami of the world. However, if there is one thing mortals have become good at, it's the sealing away of anything they do not wish to accept, refusing the light of the divine to reach them. Shinkō therefore take +1 damage from Fuuinjutsu as sealed powers do not allow growth.

  • Yin or Yang - Never truly in balance.
The Shinkō must decide upon one of two paths and take the associated drawback with it.

    * Path of the Kitsune: The path of the Kitsune is one where the Shinkō walks that of the light-hearted trickster spirit. These clan members avoid all confrontation with Death - the ultimate form of darkness and stagnation - and must therefore take the Necrophobia SC without a positive balance.

    * Path of the Nogitsune: The Nogitsune believe that illumination can't be achieved without seeing through the eyes of others. Therefore, these Shinkō feel a necessity to 'steal the essence' of others and add it to theirs. This is usually done through actions as cannibalism, chi vampirism, hematophagy, doujutsu eye stealing & other of such disturbing practices. The multitude of different essences the Nogitsune has stolen over the course of its life makes it harder to find back their 'true self', therefore disturbing the symbiotic flow of chakra with the body. Nogitsune must take Fatigue SC without a positive balance.

  • The Fox's Pride and Vanity comes with a Price
And that's a 20% ryo cost increase to all desired weapons, armours and items for the Shinkō only expect the best of quality for their monastery. The fewer they are, the more they can have.

I like the idea, but Pride before the fall isn't really a balance drawback, as in this case it is fairly obviously assumed. In order to balance your particular powers, which are the ultimate +20 chakra and the +1 bonuses to jutsus (which generally aren't allowed below A Rank, but as this is a clan we will allow it) you need something slightly more substantial. Make it so that the negative SCs cannot be used to balance positives that you have previously mentioned, which makes it a little better. Consider tweeking one of your other drawbacks to make it slightly more substantial and we should be good.
