Clan Name: 鬼殺し/悪魔スレイヤー, Onigoroshi / Akumasureiyā, lit. Demon Slayers

Specialization: Required Bukijutsu or Fūinjutsu.


Clan History: Long ago, when demons ran rampant, a sole tree existed that would sap the power of demons so much so that the demons avoided it. It is this tree that this clan’s history is based upon. The tree in question is The Durian Tree of Demonic Knowledge that sits atop the same mountain as the Kumogakure no Sato Administration Building.

It is said that long ago, the founder of this clan made a deal with an entity only known to him as a 'demon' to seal their soul within an object so that their spirit could live on forever within the object. The demon was a trickster, a malevolent soul that sought only to lead others to their ruin. To make this deal with the demon, he used the fruit from the tree as a way to control the monster. As with all diabolical pacts, the clansman was fooled and instead only his spiritual power was put into the object. He was surprised to find that he did not, in fact, die on the spot, but instead had a small amount of mental energy remaining in his brain that allowed him to continue living. The rest of his power was indeed deposited into an item that he chose, saving the demon from...overt punishment. After all, dirt dealings don’t always go as planned, and the founder was not the type of monster to kill his betrayer. He instead sealed the demon away inside the Durian Tree of Demonic Knowledge, from which place it haunts the residents of the Hidden Cloud to this day.

During the first few years of dealing with the changes that came with the demon pact, the founder discovered that it certainly didn’t come without some benefits. While it was difficult for him to use chakra flow throughout his body, it wasn’t impossible. This also meant that it was harder for genjutsu users to manipulate the chakra in his body, and his chakra system couldn’t easily be attacked by those who might be capable. It was only later that he realized that he could invoke another side of his contract, a sort of side effect that was in his favor. A flaw in the deal whose fine print benefited only the human; that seal was not in wax, or in blood, but on the eye. This eye also allowed them to see the being's manifestations, its attempts on the lives of villagers.

The founder knew full well that the contract between him and the demon was not singular in that it only affected him. The pact would be passed down to others in the village, essentially cursing the entire village. He lived on, got married, and had a child. It was a strange situation when the father had his child tested to see what had become of the demon’s contract, as it would seem that it had not been passed to the child. Now an older and more well respected man in the village, others came to him and told him of their own children who had inherited the demonic pact. It seemed that there was no rhyme or reason that discerned who would inherit the contract, thereby making this “clan” less so a pure family of inheritance and more or less a conglomeration of people from different families who have the contract.

Kekkei Genkai Name: Paradoxical Oath (逆説誓な, Gyakusesseina)

Kekkei Genkai Description: Clan members can eat the fruit of the Durian Tree of Demonic Knowledge with no issues of the stomach occurring.

The spiritual energy of the clan member is inserted into an item of their OOC choosing; in-character, it is forced. This means that there is still physical energy in the body of the person, so the clansman must exert their energies towards their item to create and use chakra; thus, knowledge of chakra flow through items, or extracting chakra using sealing formulae, is a requirement to even begin to access their chakra.

The container, known as a Phylactery, is almost always some sort of small personal item; it may be a ring, medallion, or another non-combat item. This is given for free at the time of character creation so long as it has no other effect than to carry the Onigoroshi's spiritual energy. The item is to be described in the SC category of the character application.

A Phylactery (if it is a small personal item as above is treated as an item of 1 rank higher than the Onigoroshi.

If one wants something like a weapon or armor to be their Phylactery, then it must be purchased first, and the Special Characteristic in the Character Application must be written accordingly.

The Phylactery can be detected by chakra-sensory ninja to be a concentrated source of chakra (even though this is not exactly correct).

Having an essential half of one's chakra stored outside of, and separated from, the body has its benefits. Due to the half in question being their Mental Energy, as long as they do not access said energy, they do not have chakra to manipulate. Thus, as long as an Onigoroshi does not have any jutsu or chakra-based abilities active, they are immune to Genjutsu.

Even when they do mold chakra, not all of their Mental Energy is released into the body, making it difficult to keep them under illusions anyhow. All Genjutsu have a more difficult time keeping their hold on the chakra circulation of the Onigoroshi's brain; they are treated as 1 rank lower for the purposes of releasing with Kai. (They still require realizing that one is inside an illusion, though.) A Genjutsu whose effective rank is reduced to E by this ability instead fails to take hold of the Onigoroshi's mind, leaving them with immunity to the weakest of illusions (D-rank).

Members of this clan also have the ability to change one of their eyes to show a symbol of their choice, usually that of the clan, at will. Which eye can do so is up to the user, but does not change once chosen. This Reveal (示, Shime) ability has no effect on its own, but it signals the manifestation of 'their side of the contract', partially overriding the containment.

Using Reveal, an Onigoroshi can activate jutsu that do not require hand seals, so long as they only have a target of "Self". In addition, Reveal techniques do not have to wait, or spend extra chakra to activate immediately. These benefits do not count as specific strengths of the jutsu, and do not require drawbacks; however, a Reveal technique must be applied for as such, and this effect cannot be simply applied to any jutsu mid-fight.

Drawbacks: Due to having half of their chakra locked into an item, an Onigoroshi has to wait 1 post for any of their jutsu to activate, or pay an extra 5 chakra to force the spiritual energy out, 10 at B-rank, or 15 at S-rank. Once the link between their spiritual and physical energies is forged, this is no longer necessary. (They do not have to wait/pay extra chakra during posts that they have already activated/maintained another jutsu using chakra costs.)

Whether it is an applied item or simply a non-functional one in the Character Description, if it is taken out of a 2m area (extended arm's reach) around the Onigoroshi, they become unable to use chakra. (Their maintainable jutsu dissipate, and they cannot cast techniques or use item abilities that require chakra. They can, however, still control set-duration techniques that require no additional chakra input.)

An Onigoroshi's Phylactery is not indestructible. If it is destroyed, the Onigoroshi cannot use chakra for the rest of the thread, as well as until their Phylactery is repaired (using the Item Rules as appropriate for rank).

As soon as an Onigoroshi accesses and molds their energies into chakra, they lose their total immunity to Genjutsu, and only gain the secondary resistance as stated above. They do not regain full immunity until 2 posts after they cease the use of any jutsu and abilities that require chakra.

In addition, if they begin using chakra in a post immediately after they would have otherwise fallen under Genjutsu, it manages to take hold. (It is still treated as -1 in rank for the purposes of Kai.)

Due to their abilities' origins with a demonic contract, Sealing Techniques affect an Onigoroshi as if they were 1 rank higher.
