Zinan
D-rank
Zinan trudged over a ridge in the mountains and sighed. He was so close to the Village Hidden in the Clouds, but he was so far away. He spotted the village nearly an hour ago, but it was in the distance. His heart elevated with joy when he spotted the lofty peaks of the buildings, but now, his heart was as low as the lowest valley. Every ridge and hill that he clambered over, raised his hopes that the village would be right there. Every ridge and hill that he clambered over, crushed him in his entirety. The village got no closer, despite how many crests he crested.
Zinan's shoulders sunk with fatigue and depression. The road had been a long one. He'd been stuck in the heat, caught in the rain, and, at times, thought he was going to freeze to death in the mountains. It did not take too long for him to realize why genin were sent to other villages, alone, on "scouting" missions. It was not to gain information on the villages, but rather, it was for the Hokage to gain information on the genin of the Hidden Leaf. It was an added benefit if the ninja, themselves, gained some knowledge of themselves or the world that they lived in.
Zinan definitely learned about the world on this mission. He came to appreciate the temperate climate that Konohagakure was settled in. He had not experienced the different climates of the world, nor did he ever give the different terrains much thought as a child. He only knew the forests of Konoha and its warm, year round temperature. The bitter chill of the mountains took his breath away every morning and, as the trip stretched on, Zinan found it that much more difficult to drag himself out of his sleeping bag each morning.
He also learned a little about himself during the journey. Whenever the traveling became difficult, Zinan would find himself paused by the side of the trail. He would analyze the situation at hand and attempt to find some way to make the trip easier or to find a way to make the struggle more bearable. Early on, he discovered the way that he had packed his bag was inefficient and was causing him back pain. He rearranged the bag so that the heavier items were up near the top, so that his shoulders could better support the weight, as opposed to the bottom of his bag, where the weight of the backpack pulled him backwards and down. This sort analysis would benefit him in the field as a shinobi, but it could cause problems in combat if it forces him to hesitate and not take action.
As the genin rounded another ridge, his heart fluttered. He had finally arrived at the gates of the Village Hidden in the Clouds. Zinan could see the towering spires of the buildings, leering over the walls, which made up the village. No wonder they say this village is "hidden in the clouds," he thought, amused at the concept of such buildings being hidden by anything. His eyes drifted back down to the gate, where he noticed that it was opened just enough for a person to slip between the two doors.
Zinan stepped through the gate and stopped. It wasn't like anything he could imagined the village would be. It was not set up like the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Where did he register? Where did he let people know that he was here? Zinan didn't want to cause some international incident by him appearing in an opposing village unregistered. He looked about, wondering if anyone would help him, or even notice him.
