Kashizudoto heard the news: the Hokage and his group had finally arrived in Iwa! They were late as hell, at least to Kashizudoto who had come much earlier than expected to deliver the letter to the Tsuchikage. Though he was only in Iwa for a few days, he had made a pledge to become twice as great as he was before. The result? All in this time, he literally crammed in six short term missions and countless random adventures where he fought annoying girls, monsters, criminals, and even geographic features of the land, met old friends from Konoha, strangers, and animals alike, and saw everything in the Land of Earth from markets to mountains. He'd also ended up joining the Order of the White Lotus, a transnational secret society aimed at achieving global peace; who could have guessed that Master Piandao, the man that he apprenticed under to create his katana, was the Grand Lotus himself! As a result, he received, only a few hours ago, a notice from the jonin promotion council that they had heard of his exploits and promoted him to special jonin. It was a big step in his career as a shinobi; although, the young man couldn't really be all that excited considering the half-awake state that he was in at the time.

Towards the end of the stay, the boy had gotten extremely sleep deprived, as he had missed at least a day's worth of his Zs in all the adventures and missions that he'd been doing. So much so that he was basically sleepwalking through the last two missions that he did; it was dangerous, but the dreaming kid was lucky and somehow managed it (barely though). Only a few hours ago did the boy, with help from two random genin, channel chakra to his brain to enter a kind of power nap, a lucid sleeping state where he (and the two who were helping him) sped up the process of sleep artificially in his brain by a factor of about twenty. Of course, this was no substitute for natural sleep, and it would have very adverse affects if he used it often, so he took note to use it extremely sparingly, only when he was in situations like this where he'd been on super cram mode for a while. Sheesh, this kid needed to take a break, but his adventurous spirit stopped him from doing so. He wanted a new thing to do immediately: he was considering asking the Hokage whether he could skip out on returning to Konoha and instead go to Kumo or Kiri to observe the truth of war with his own eyes. He wanted to see it firsthand.

The special jonin's appearance would look exponentially different than the whole green jacket look that the Hokage saw him in during their private meeting earlier. First off, he had a black swordsman's robe (the rain earlier had washed off all the dirt and grime that was on it a few hours earlier) on him that covered most of his body, a gift from Master Piandao after he completed his apprenticeship under him; that's how Monk Iriku of the Fire Temple recognized him earlier as a student of the Grand Lotus. On his left hip was a bamboo sheath containing the Tentetsutou or the Sword of Heaven, a blade that he had forged out of a four billion year old meteorite while he apprenticed under Master Piandao during that interim period between his meeting with the Hokage and his departure to Iwa to deliver the message. Next to it was a coil of wire measuring about 50 meters long. It had been extremely useful during his adventures in iwa as a kind of spool that he used when lost in the tunnels to backtrack his steps, a thread that he attached to his kunai knife to make sure that he didn't plummet to his death if Fukai betrayed him when he was crossing the chasm, and as a way to propel himself forward to a surface. It was also handy as a way to rappel up surfaces without the Supernatural Walking Practice and to set up traps in order to slow down enemy shinobi. Below it was a holster containing one kunai and three shuriken, just some basic projectiles to serve in a variety of combat situations. With all this, he was ready to see the Hokage again and meet the genin who was slowing down Lord Kenta.

Okay, time to get this done. Meet up with the kid he'd sent ahead, see how he'd done, wait to see if anyone was going to respond to the hawks and such he'd sent ahead; and let the rest of his party rest. Right. Simple enough. They'd be able to check into their hotel later on, and he didn't plan on doing the whole meeting shit until tomorrow; so he could eat, sleep, and bathe a bit. Wet dog smell was normal in Konoha, but he doubted the people of Iwa would enjoy it much. Although... wasn't there a clan pack in the country? He could have sworn there was, but he was too far removed to care. If there was, they'd been removed from the main family so long that no one was really invested in them anymore.

To this, now. They'd moved slow enough that the messenger hawks sent to find THEM had no problem getting to them, so he was well aware of the newest Tokuju at his disposal, and he was rather happy about this. He saw greatness in Kashi, and the kid was showing he had the work ethic at least. How much farther he made it was up to him, but if this pace was maintained, he'd be basking in that glorious top of the mountain light soon enough. Excellent. He was going to take the kid out for a drink eventually, but that would be after they figure out if he was going to accidentally a war or not. Again. Fun times, that.

Spotting the kid wasn't too hard; that robe stuck out pretty hard, and his eyes where sharp enough to see him even at a pretty sizable difference. That, and he was a few shades lighter than the dark mountain peoples of the village, so he definitely stuck out some. Not badly, though; and no where near as bad as if this was Kumogakure, but it helped. He'd left Tre and Satoshi to their own devices, with nothing more than the time and place to check in at if they wanted. If not, he'd send them the hotel location and room number later; although he was pretty sure Satoshi might end up staying with family while they where in town. Either way worked. Approaching the newest of his Special Jounin, "Kashi.~ I hear you've been busy. Congrats, son; that's one of the fastest promotions I've ever seen, and that's saying something given how far I jumped when I finally did."

"Kashi, I hear you've been busy, said the Hokage as he approached the boy, "Congrats, son; that's one of the fastest promotions I've ever seen, and that's saying something given how far I jumped when I finally did." That last comment really piqed the tokujo's interest, considering that he knew nothing about how Lord Kenta rose up the ranks himself.

"Thanks, the boy would say briefly after a bit of a wierd pause as he considered how to respond. For all the praise that he had received over his lifetime for his exploits, he was still terrible about accepting congratulations with humility and without an awkward silence.

"So... Err... I like katon believe me," the shinobi would clarify before going on, "No, that's wrong, I actually love katon. While it's not nearly as great as katon, doton works wonders as well... However, I wanna diversify a little bit, you get what I mean? Besides, now that I have finally made a katana, I can have a serious, fair fight with a really hardcore raiton user, Tre Natake, and an advantageous element would give me a real edge even if it isn't my primary one." When he was a genin only a day or two out of the Academy, Kashizudoto had challenged the Natake to a noncompetitive spar, just trying to gauge the abilities of other shinobi and attempting to learn the tricks of the trade. At the time, Kashizudoto did not have a katana and was inexperienced, so he ended up throwing the match once he saw some of Tre's tricks, although he could have dragged out the fight if he really wanted to. Now that he had successfully trained up his skills through adventures, missions, and the like, he was ready to have an actual match with him. The irony of it all was that his rival was in Iwagakure with Kashizudoto: the two were on the exact same mission without the tokujo even realizing it. Funnily enough, the tokujo blamed "the genin on the mission" for the fact that the Hokage was late, not even realizing who he was referring to.

"Therefore, I think I'd like to learn fuuton," the tokujo would explain as he scooped up some dirt from the ground and compressed it into his hands, trying to target his chakra to that dirt and transform it into fuuton chakra, "Though I don't think I'm getting this right..." He would lift off his hand from the dirt to reveal it completely baked, solid, and hot. Would he have just accidentally transformed his chakra it into katon rather than fuuton? He would need to make the chakra less scattered and more dense for this to work. He would throw the baked dirt aside, scoop up a new clump, and clasp his hands hand around it, trying it all again. Once he would have applied chakra to it, he would have lifted off the top hand to reveal... A large, cold rock. Yep, he would have used doton chakra, wouldn't he?

"Any tips?" the tokujo would inquire of the Hokage, eager to learn this new nature. Granted, he wasn't even sure whether the Hokage knew fuuton; however, at such a level, any Kage would at least be able to give some basic tips on transforming to any nature regardless of whether they actually knew the element or not. That said, it would be convenient if Lord Kenta knew fuuton and was willing to give him some pro tips from a Wind Release user himself.

Training talk, he could get behind that; sure. To be planning one's growth was worthy most of the time, within reason; and anything to keep a star ninja growing helped the village, and whatever helped the village made him happy. That was, for the most part, why he was in Iwagakure at all, it was good to make sure that alliances and such where solid for the right reasons after all. Raising a hand, he focused for a moment and create a spiraling ball of wind, one that was roughly the size of the balls that kids played with in the parks; those throwing balls that they would hit with bats or use the elongated scoops attached to their arms to send flying around. He smirked softly, then proceeded to flick the ball a few dozen feet into the air where it hung at the top of the arc then vanished as the chakra faded into the air around it. A simple jutsu, merely a basic Rasen Fusen, or Spiraling Wind Ball; but it did the job that he needed it too.

"Wind and I are good friends. I may be a water prodigy, but I have always had a knack for using Wind techniques. I could easily teach you once we get back. Wind isn't difficult to learn, if you have any aptitude for it. If not, well, by the time I finish with you, you'll have some pretty amazing chakra control."

"Wind and I are good friends. I may be a water prodigy, but I have always had a knack for using Wind techniques. I could easily teach you once we get back," the Hokage offered as he created a ball of wind to showcase his skills and added while throwing it, "Wind isn't difficult to learn, if you have any aptitude for it. If not, well, by the time I finish with you, you'll have some pretty amazing chakra control." Great, so the tokujo had someone to teach him fuuton once he was back in Konoha: namely, Lord Hokage himself. That was amazing, just what he needed to get an edge in combat, especially against raiton, the element that was almost as bad as... suiton, which he already had doton to fend off against. That said, Kashizudoto was not planning to go straight back to Konoha. He realized on this tiring, crazy trip that life inside the village for twelve years had really sheltered him from the outside world; regardless of his previous conceptions about it, he would have to see and experience it for himself to truly understand it. Besides, he was hoping to meet other members of the Order of the White Lotus, notably those who were masters on the council, who included Master Piandao of the Dense Forest and Professor Ivan of Diamond Heights. Since he somehow managed to extract the details of the war from his letter delivery to the Tsuchikage, he was all the more interested in visiting the battlefield for himself and seeing what war was like, although the Kiri-Kumo "war" was bound not to have too grand of a scale considering the major imbalance of power between the warring sides. Kiri, with more manpower and allies to back it up, was bound to win from the beginning. Regardless, he could still learn a lot from watching what was going on over in Kumo.

"Thank you so much for your offer, and it will be my honor to learn fuuton from you once we're both back in Konoha, the tokujo would say gratefully, surprised that he would be able to add on some fluff to his thanks, "Now, speaking of getting back to Konoha, I'd like to take the long way over there... Namely, I request your permission to journey out to Kumo and see what's out there in the world. Believe me, I have no sympathies for either side in the war, and I won't be taking part in any of it, trust me. However, I really just want to observe and understand the phenomena surrounding this practice... y'know, war. That said, don't you worry about me getting behind in my training; I'll make sure to be just as rigorous in my skill development as I was during this mission here in Iwa!" Perhaps that last bit would be an overstatement; he didn't want to get sleep deprived in Kumo as he did in Iwa, considering that an adventure to what could potentially break out into a volatile battlefield at any moment could threaten his life.

"Once I'm done observing there," the tokujo would add, "I'm thinking of either taking a route back to Konoha through Kiri, just to see the place and possibly even meet with my sensei, who is currently holding down a garrison there. Either that, or I'll just head straight back to the Land of Fire. Either way, I'm hoping that this is alright with you, and/or whether you have a preference for the route that I take during my journey, if it is allowed, that is."

Oh? The boy wanted to travel. This actually pleased the elder male greatly; he had implemented policies to encourage travel of the citizens of the village, even if it was just travel between Kiri and Konoha for the longest time. He'd never restricted a travel request without a solid reason, and the reasoning the boy provided for his request was extremely sound. As for the reference to the war, Kenta was of a very neutral stance personally; so long as it didn't spill into Konoha territory he would stay out of it, beyond sending troops to defend the mainland of Kiri. Neutral or not, Konoha and Kiri where brothers-in-arms, and would continue to be as long as Kenta had a say in the matter. He had nothing against, Kumo personally (Although he'd love to see the Lightning Bastard taken down a peg or two), but he also had no real reason to be supporting them in this stupidity. He agreed with Ayakashi and the rest of the world in that Sanosuke needed to be dethroned. Of everything that had happened since his return, this was the one thing he'd researched a bit; mostly due to the involvement of Kiri within it; but also because he'd been thinking of reaching out to Kumo for some strengthening of relations, as the village was a hotbed of masters in skills that Konoha had become lacking in, and he wished to fix that.

"I've said it before, and I always will; I do not restrict the movements of my people without reason. You're free to do as you wish, so long as you maintain the good name of the village and it's people. As for Kumo and Kiri... well, if you want to do anything, make sure it benefits Kiri, okay? It might not be my Kiri anymore, but Kiri is still Kiri, and for the honor of the pact I signed with Hikou all those years ago, I continue to uphold my stance of Brotherhood with the Land of Water. But yes, feel free to travel as you feel you need. I wish the people of Konoha to see the world, so that we can empathize with them, and continue to be a bastion of knowledge, wisdom, and light among the world. That was the vision the First Hokage had, I believe; and I wish to uphold that vision myself. Call it my own version of the Will of Fire, if you would."

No doubt these words were inspiring to the young tokujo, who looked at Kenta as a model of an ideal village leader, with perhaps a few minor tweaks here and there (no one was perfect, after all); however, he was a little bit offput by the Hokage's favoritism towards Kiri, although perhaps his journeys to the Land of Lightning and possibly even the Land of Water would either clear it all up or send him into even further confusion about which side was "right", if any. Anyway, the policy - or rather lack thereof - on travel was reassuring to the tokujo, who preferred that villages allow free movement; his relatively liberal outlook on such matters was one reason that he took issue with Kiri, which was pretty darn authoritarian at least from what he'd heard of it. He was hoping his travels would either clear up his bias or reinforce his slightly less than favorable opinion pertaining to the Land of Water.

"Thanks so much, I won't do anything to shame the village, I promise," the tokujo would respond to the Hokage, "Is there anything that you need to talk to me about, or shall I say my farewells, head back to my room, and begin to pack up for my journey?"

That was actually a good question, and one that the elder should have probably thought about before the boy had a chance to ask it. Really, there wasn't all that much left that he needed Kashi for; the original point of the mission was for him to come ahead as the forward scout and messenger, a job which he's completed wonderfully. Had his own group not been held up so badly; a miscalculation on his own part, yes, but still a fault of life in general; there would have been more time to do more things, maybe work on training and such that the boy was obviously eager to undertake, at least once he was ready. Hell, he could have delivered the new of the promotion, had they left a day later and arrived a week sooner; but there was no reason to be annoyed by the past. You couldn't change it, only move forward with the knowledge you've acquired.

"As of this moment, you are free to go. There is little I can think of that would need to be discussed at this time, unless you planned to put in your request for a Specialist Corps now that your promotion is finalized. That could easily be handled while you're away, and a runner sent to you with your paperwork and gears; I've had to do just that a few times when I've had Jounin approved for groups while on long term assignments. Obvious not for ANBU or something similar, but for other things. I was able to send one Jounin's Genin son to deliver his new rank insignia to him when he was promoted within the MPs to Captain; that was fun. He was cycling home anyway, so it could have waited; but the look the son described on his father's face when they met up... I think it was worth it. Little touches, yanno?"

He was wandering off topic, a bad habit of his when he was relaxed and not particularly focused on any one subject or responsibility at the moment. The strange smells and sounds of the area weren't helping; it was difficult to focus on anything other than the myriad of smells making his nostrils flare and his brain twitch (somewhere nearby was a vendor of roasted meats and his stomach was always up for that); which went combined with the sounds of the people, the slight accents and the strange terms that filtered into the common language from the outlying villages and tribes in the mountains and plains of the Land of Earth; such strangeness was hard to ignore.

"Actually, when I think of it; you could do me a small personal favor; if you have a few moments. As you've likely gotten a decent handle on the layout of the village, I would except that you've figured out where the postal centers are. Would you be so kind as to run a message up for me?" From the sleeve of his robes he produced a sealed scroll case and a small envelope; the case contained the message to be sent, while the envelope had the information and payments needed to sent it by a priority hawk or carrier. Either was fine, he wasn't going to be picky; so long as it reached it's destination. "Are you able to do this for me, son?" He held the items where they where visible, but he wasn't forcible offering them to the younger male. Even for an Alpha Male like him, it wasn't in his nature to force people to do things like this; it was personal request, not an order, and he wasn't about to be a jackass to the boy like that. Abuse of power wasn't something he enjoyed seeing, let alone doing; so it would be entirely Kashi's choice to run the items to the post for him.

Little touches, yanno?" the Hokage went on in response to the tokujo's question. The spacialist corps that the tokujo had always dreamed of being in was indeed the Sword Saints, a group of... well, sword users; it didn't quite match up to the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, but it served its purpose in defending the village and conducting offensive operations with Bukijutsu, at least in the view of the tokujo. Was the Hokage always this off-topic though; the boy really didn't understand that long gibberish at the end about the military police guy becoming a captain and getting his insignia from his genin son and the little touches and... Ya, that was too much to keep track of for something that wasn't particularly relevant to him.

"Actually, when I think of it; you could do me a small personal favor; if you have a few moments. Another letter. And this time to the postal service rather than one of the five Kage? Easy as cake. He could easily stop by one on his way and drop in the letter without any real hassle.

"Speaking of specialist corps, I believe that I now fulfill all but one requirement of the Sword Saints; apparently my Tentetsutou isn't "good enough' for them, the tokujo would complain as he would half-unsheath (as a display), from its bamboo casing, the black katana that he forged out of a four billion year old meteorite under Master Piandao, then resheathing it and  adding, "Anyway, I'm hoping to, at some time, reforge this blade into one with a sharper edge, as this time I'll be able to handle a more advanced blade; then I'm probably going to end up joining that division." Compared to the Hokage's long rant, the tokujo's wouldn't be too sizable if the two were set side by side.

"Anyway, I'll run the message over for ya, no problem, the tokujo would say as he would grasp the necessary items from the Hokage's hand (if the man would actually let go of the items was up to him).

Good, good; that would save him from having to wander around quiet as much, now. He would hand over the items, letting his mind wander to the slightly alarming information that the boy had likely not realized that he'd shared. "Who told you that your blade was not worthy of the Sword Saints?" He had a feeling he might know the answer, but he wanted to hear it from Kashi himself, if he cared to share. He wasn't going to go behind anyone and be that guy that used rank to make exceptions for favorites, but depending on what was said, he might need to look into some things. While the Captain of the SS was able to approve or deny the entire of a candidate, the reasoning of 'your personal weapon is not good enough' was not an appropriate reasoning for a denial. The point of the Sword Saints was the take the best, even if they didn't have the best gear initially. In the hands of a master, a stick was worth more than the most expensive chakra steel.

"Who told you that your blade was not worthy of the Sword Saints?" the Hokage said, seeming a little alarmed at what seemed like common knowledge to the tokujo. Was something amiss? Sure, he didn't like the rule about having requirements based on gear, but he thought the Hokage was already aware of it.

"Well, I was reading the requirements for joining the Sword Saints, actually," the tokujo would say, "If I recall correctly, it said that you had to be a tokubetsu jonin, which I've now become, display talent at using advanced weapons, which I believe that I've done during my time here in Iwa, and, finally and the most frustrating of all, have a blade that cuts in at least three inches deep. I tested my own blade; unfortunately it only cut in about 2.25 inches. I have no idea why it's a rule in the first place, unless you could perhaps shed some light on it?" The boy was a firm believer in the notion that objectively stupid rules had no place in society and were meant to be broken, unless they could be properly explained on a rational basis, so he would really be hoping that the Hokage would explain this to him.

I'm sorry, what? How the unholy fuck did that make even the smallest lick of sense? The fuck was Sousetsu thinking? Or was it even Sousetsu's fault for this bullshit... He lowered his hand and nodded to the boy; it was a downright friendly gesture from him, really; before turning on his heel and flashing away in a manner that was all speed and no chakra. He needed to be alone before he punched something, yep.

"That... well, it seems I need to have a word with some people," the Hokage uttered  in an uncharacteristic silent fury that even the young tokujo could decipher, "That is the most bullshit requirement I've ever heard; even more so given that you're given a special 'ceremonial' sword that easily cuts to that depth. Just... all of the bullshit. Thank you, for tell me this. I'm going to be one busy dog when I get home; and I dare say Rippa and I are not going to be on good terms when I'm done with him." Oh goodness, what had Kashizudoto just set off... As unfortunate as it was for his sensei to get yelled at (y'know, the one who he'd got to spend almost no time with due to logistical circumstances), he felt that it was still a good thing that he brought this matter up to the Hokage's attention. Besides, the tokujo could only agree that it was a pretty darn BS requirement; he would nod his head.

"I will take my leave now, son," the Hokage pronounced as he calmed down, "I need... to go punch some things. This is just another in a long train of bullshit that I've run into since I've come home, and I'm going to rather enjoy fixing it.". Soon afterwards, the Hokage bolted off extremely quick; he was known for his godlike speed, after all. It was interesting... The tokujo had not ever seen Kenta losing his composure until now, and it was interesting to observe how even some of the best leaders, such as the Hokage, still had their flaws, though perhaps they were masked a bit more than Kashizudoto's. While he realized that this was perhaps not the best way to part ways with the Hokage (at least for a while as he was on his journey), the tokujo began making his way back as he would have done anyway, dropping off the Hokage's letter on the way.
