"Hi Mom!"

Tsu smiled as she stood in front of the stone monument. She had a small pot with a blue and green colored orchid in her hands. Kneeling in front of the stone, she laid the pot down, turning it slightly to give a good angle. A chilly winter breeze maid the girl shiver slightly, she hugged herself in the cold. White clouds covered an overcast winter sky, Tsu was wearing a purple coat with her Konoha headband acting as a scarf. Her black boots squeaked on the stone as she leaned forward. She felt her long green braids rest on the ground, the girl smiled as she talked to her mother's grave.

It had been a while since she had last visited, but sometimes the girl felt as if she needed to talk with her late mother. It wasn't as if she could really talk back, but it was enough for Tsu just to visit her grave. The cemetery was somber as always, (the overcast weather didn't help) but the girl kept a smile on her face despite going to someplace so morbid.

"Dad's still not back from his mission. But I just got back from Kumo and the exams so I thought I should stop by and say hi! I'm sure if dad was here he'd want to say hi too." Tsu stood up, she looked down, holding one of her braids in her hands, twirling the green rope between her fingers. She had three braids now, instead of two, each one reaching down past her lower back. "I didn't make it very far in the exams... But I did get promoted to Chuunin though! Hehe, I'm at the rank you got to! I've gotten really strong... But I promise that I'm gonna get stronger though, I'll be even stronger than dad one day. Ruto's been doing good too, he's almost old enough to enroll in the Academy now. He'll probably go by his next birthday this spring. I promise I'll take care of him and teach him all the ways of Mokuton. He still really likes Venus Flytraps... Maybe he'll make a jutsu like that just himself."

Tsu continued to fill her mother in all the happenings in the last few months, from the chunin exams and her time in Kumo to all the people that she had the chance to meet and how strong the girl had gotten. It was nice just to talk. "How do you like the new crossbreed I made? I think that the colors turned out really pretty. The green and the blue made a good combination, I'm going to try a couple of purple and green ones next time. I'll be sure to show you those too. Hehe, I could be a Jounin by that time Mom!" She smiled again, thinking of how things will have changed by the next time she would visit her mother. "Don't worry though, I won't wait that long. Since I'm back, I'll be able to visit more often. I know that you've missed me, I've missed you too." At those words, the girl looked back down the ground her smile turning into a more melancholic expression. It was never easy to accept that her mother was gone, the girl could only make these visits whenever she had the time. Under her coat, she had the leaf pin. A small decorative pin that was in the shape a leaf that once belonged to her mother, but since her mother's death the girl had worn it.

"I'll leave the orchid for you to keep, so you won't feel so lonely. Um, good bye Mom!" With a wave Tsu said her goodbye. The young Senju turned and began making her way back from the cemetery. Her arms swinging and green braids trailing behind her as she hummed along.

Unfortunately, Yoichi had been rather removed from any work with the Oseseru as of late, leaving him to his own devices for a while. He'd been awaiting further orders from Lady Risu, but none had come, nor had she made any effort to contact him. Perhaps she was busy, or something had come up, but it left him feeling rather empty. He had, in his free time, only been wasting it with his own research into the Venom serum, and it had taken up any training time he'd have, or any ability to do any missions. It was actually coming along rather well, and he'd made some strides in it. He'd actually managed to theorize a new way to make it, and he was calling it the Chimera serum, mixxing in properties he wanted to enhance a being with. Since it was such an intensive job, he was waiting for his test subjects to come back with the results. The brothers from the training ground were his loyal subjects, and were more than willing to be test subjects, so they were out field testing for him.

That left only a few other people that Yoichi had taken interest in. Not all were anywhere near as easily manipulated as the brothers were, for their intelligence wasn't all that high. They were just his muscle for now. But there was another he had found of interest. The girl from the library, who had been looking for some books to make a new jutsu. He'd heard she was a chuunin now, which was rather interesting. She'd probably surpassed him in skill while he wasn't training.

To that end, Yoichi had been seeking her out, interested in seeing her for himself, and perhaps talking to her once again. Seeing what she'd learned, and having some more conversation. It was pure luck that he had spied her from a distance earlier in the day, and he'd followed for a while, intrigued at where she could be going. To his surprise, she had gone to the cemetery. The thought that she'd lost someone gave him a small moment of pity, able to relate to the pain of having lost some loved ones. He followed her rather stealthily, although that was not to say he was being sneaky. The best way to blend in is to act like you belong. Anyone who might notice him enter would have only thought he was going to visit a grave of his own.

He'd managed to get to a row of graves not far from where Tsuru was, and he hung back, listening to her talk for a little while. It turns out she was visiting her mother's grave. Yoichi's thoughts dropped back into his own past, remembering his own parents. So she'd lost a parent then. The moment of uncharacteristic pity returned, mixed in with something else. Longing? That could be the only word he'd have to describe it, although it was almost completely foreign to him. Yoichi was one who rarely acknowledged emotions, only using them to help him act, but somehow this reached him.

He didn't stay much longer, as her conversation was drawing to an end. Turning around, he made no effort to conceal himself as he walked, a few rows away from the girl. If a conversation with her was meant to be, she'd notice him, but it wasn't necessary. He'd gathered plenty of information from her own monologue to sate his curiosity. But a part of him wanted her to see him. To talk to. Often times, being alone was so boring, and momentary companionship was worth it. But he could do without it.

Humming along, Tsu made her way through the rows of stone graves, her arms swinging with each light step. It was time to head back home and perhaps warm up with some homemade hot chocolate or hot tea. Grandma makes the best... With marshmallows! With each breath out a cloud of steam formed in front of her face in the cold air. She hadn't noticed anyone around her as she had come to cemetary, but suddenly not too far off the girl saw a figure a few graves ahead.

Tilting her head, Tsu wondered who it could possibly be. Perhaps just another person visiting a late somebody, just as she was. In that case, she would simply walk politely by. With each step, the figure's details soon become clearer. It was a young man in dark clothing and with dark hair. He wasn't hiding himself from the girl, it was hard to tell if he even noticed she was there. As she got closer, she could see that one of the distinguishing features was the fact he had an eye patch over his eye. It wasn't just a stranger, but someone that Tsuru knew.

With a smile of recognition, the young Senju waved her hand high and ran up to the Uchiha. "Ah, Yoichi-nii! It's me, Tsuru!" She called out his name as she reached him in a few moments. "Hello!" She stopped and looked up to him, her bright smile still on her face. Without waiting for him to respond, the girl threw her arms around him in a hug-tackle. She didn't squeeze particularly hard, but enough to let him know that she was very excited to see the Uchiha from the library again. It had been a while since she had seen him. Before Kumo and the exams and her promotion, before quite a lot of things had happened. Though it was only their second meeting, anyone could hardly call them the closest of friends. Tsu however saw him not just as any friend, but a fellow shinobi of the Leaf and therefore they already had a deeper understanding for one another besides being just friends.

"It's nice to see you again, Yoichi-nii!" Tsuru gave him one more big squeeze hug before letting go. "What are you doing here? I was just visiting my mom and then I saw you! Are you visiting someone too? We can go visit them together, but uh... I don't have to if you don't want me to go. It's just that I haven't seen you in a long time and I've done lotsa things since I've seen you and I wanna tell you about them! Er, unless you wanna tell me about stuff that you've done too. I'm pretty good at listening, but I guess I'm okay at talking too! Uh... Haha!" At the realization that she had been talking for quite a while, Tsu laughed out loud. Her cheeks a little red from the cold and from the funny embarrassment. Truly she was just glad to find a familiar face now that she had returned home.

Yoichi stopped walking, smiling to himself. The girl had taken the bait. He pivoted and turned to look over at her. "Oh, hey there Tsuru!" he said, rather surprised as she had hugged him before he could start speaking. Immediately, his mind was on the defensive, as he'd let his guard down and had she been a hostile, he would have been dead. Mentally scolding himself, he didn't let it show on his face, and chuckled.

"I heard you were promoted to Chuunin status. That makes us equals in rank." he commented off hand. "Anyhow, I suppose we've both completed our goals here. You are returning from visiting your mother as you've said, and I've visited the friend I had here. I was just on my way out actually. Let's walk and talk. You said lots have happened? Care to talk about them?" he asked. Sure, he'd already heard her own monologue, but he didn't mind listening again. Perhaps there was something more she hadn't said, and he could pick up more information. "I never participated in the Chuunin Exams myself. Probably for the best. Holding back against genin would be difficult for me, and I have no urge to put myself in the spotlight and revealing my strategies to all the governing shinobi bodies. There are few who can beat my tactics. Even as a genin, I outwitted another Uchiha from Suna who was a Chuunin as well, and beat him rather soundly." he explained.

Perhaps she'd be curious enough to request a fight. He might even indulge her in that request. It would be a good way to test her skills and find out her abilities. If not, then talking would suffice. It would be prudent for him to find out the village's military capabilities first hand anyhow if he was going to help Lady Risu take over at any point. Whenever that might happen, he wasn't sure, and he didn't really have to worry too much about the ANBU. After all, those were under her control. Soon enough he'd find those out first hand once he joined anyhow.

With the simple hug, the Uchiha also said hello in recognition to the young Senju. Tsu laughed aloud as he chuckled as well, she figured he was simply happy to see a familiar face just as she was. "I heard you were promoted to Chuunin status. That makes us equals in rank. " He commented at the fact he knew of her promotion,  making the girl smile bright. Tsu was still very proud at the fact she had recently ranked up. And now that they were indeed the same rank, she was getting just as strong as other shinobi in her village. A sign of progress to one day she would be as powerful as she wished.  He mentioned that he was done was he was doing here, visiting someone just as she had. Since they were both done with their visits, he suggested walking and talking together and the green haired girl nodded excitedly in agreement. As they walked together, he spoke of a few things he had done since their time apart. He explained he hadn't participated in the Chuunin Exams becuase he didn't like being in the spotlight or "revealing his strategies to all the governing shinobi bodies." The latter portion rather flew over the girl's head as she couldn't see a reason why he would hide them and she was slightly  unsure as to what exactly the "governing shinobi bodies" were. But sometimes people were secretive. Secrets could be interesting, though Tsu herself never really had any nor was ever actually good at keeping them. She was an easily read and open book for the most part. She simply nodded as she walked alongside him, her arms swinging her side.

He also said that he had fought with another member of his Clan, another Uchiha, someone from Suna, and he had been successful in winning. The girl looked up to him with a look of awe. "Wow Yoichi-nii! I bet you're really, really good!" She smiled with a compliment, as he had been a Chuunin just a little but longer than her, it wouldn't be a surprise that he had more battle experience than her. The only real fight the Senju had was the one in the Chuunin Exams and she had lost that match. Losing however, provided just as much, if not more, experience than winning and the girl was sure she had learned a little bit of something since that battle.

"I did go to Kumo for the exams! I got past for the first round... But in my first real match I lost against a kunoichi from Kiri. After that I still got promoted, but you already knew that huh?" Tsu tilted her head with a smile, two of her green braids fell on each of her shoulders, while her third braid, a new addition since she had seen the Uchiha, lined down the middle her back.

"I've done a few missions and been meeting and catching up on old friends and making new ones since I've got back! Hehe, and I've been working on the medical Mokuton too. It's kinda on hold since winter came around and it's not really ready for real field testing, but I'm sure that when spring comes I can harvest the seeds and work on replicating the effects with Mokuton and medical chakra!" Tsu spoke of a few things she had done since she had seen the Uchiha and gave him an update on the one of the first things they had talked about in their very first meeting. The Medical Mokuton Jutsu, a personal endeavor by the girl to create her very own jutsu using her clan's kekkai Genkai and medical ninjutsu. It true that work had since halted since winter had come, but as soon as spring came and it was warm enough to raise more medical plants, she would be right back on it. She was sure she would be able to show Yoichi if was still curious. Perhaps then her father would be back so he could see it as well. Thinking of things to come always made Tsu feel happy, the bright smile on her face never seemed to fade.

As the two had walked and talked, they had already come to the entrance of the cemetary. While it would seem that the two would no longer have a reason to stay together, Tsu had put some thought into proposition for something of a different interaction besides simply talking. Turning to the Uchiha, this time with a rather different kind of smile of her face, excited but determined and possibly a little unsure of herself. "Yoichi-nii, I've been thinking and I... wanna ask you if you wanna have a fight together!"

She let the statement sink in for a moment before explaining herself a little further. This was a first for the girl, asking for a fight and she wasn't sure if the Uchiha would respond favorably. She hoped that as her friend and that as a fellow shinobi, he would understand her need for this match. "You said you had a lotta strategies and I just know you're really good at fighting.  I already told you that I had lost my fight in the Chuunin Exams and now I really wanna see that since I'm chuunin, if I've really learned anything since then. So... Please say yes!"

Chuckling slight, the older Chuunin would simply shake his head. "Power has very little to do with it. I wasn't particularly all that strong, I'd only recently become a shinobi at the time. I had all of about 5 offensive jutsu in my repertoire. It was just a matter of baiting the opponent. If you understand how someone thinks, then you can fight even with a disadvantage. He was stronger, faster, and more experienced than me, but I could get into his head. I knew what his strategy would be and where he'd move. I used my own attacks to position him where I needed him to be. Kept him confused with my fire clones. Once he was in position, I ended it with a solid attack. Power difference is important, but with a good enough strategy and well laid plans, even a novice can beat a professional."

Yoichi nodded his head. It made sense that she would have lost a match to a Kiri-nin. "No need to be too upset about losing to a Kiri shinobi. To be honest, all my data has supported the claim that Kiri has the most powerful militant shinobi. Last years Chuunin Exams, 3 of the top four finalists were Kiri-nin. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them ended up training the one that had beat you. Obviously you performed well enough though that our superiors saw fit to grant you the rank up."

As they walked, Yoichi listened to her speak, staying silent for the most part. It was nice enough to simply listen to someone talk, as he spent so much time alone as of late that he rarely got to hear or have honest conversation. And then she took the bait. It appeared she was eager to test her skills, and see if she had gotten any better, or learned from her experiences in the Chuunin exams. And as this was exactly what he had been leading to, Yoichi had no reason to decline. "Oh, why sure I will! You may be disappointed in my skills. I'm not too terribly strong. But I suppose I can see how you'll fair against me. Who knows, perhaps you'll even end up winning. I'm not infallible or unbeatable." he grinned at the young Chuunin. This would be an interesting match up. He had the superior abilities with his Katon speciality, but he wasn't aiming to kill in this fight, which meant he'd need to tone down his usual strategies. As most of the time he went for the deadly strikes, he'd need to fight with an emphasis on tiring her out.

Throughout their conversation, Tsu listened to Yoichi's responses as carefully as she could. As he explained his victory over the other Uchiha and even her own loss at the hands of a Kiri kunoichi, she was amazed at the amount of intelligence he seems to hold. The girl herself wasn't exactly the best at strategy, nor did she really have a clue about most ninja from other villages. The young Senju had thought the older Uchiha was extremely mature and admirable in the facts that he knew so much about so many things and his talent for strategy. It was all the more reason she was excited that he answered favorably to the idea of having a fight together. He even smiled, saying a few humbling words, admitting that he may not be as strong as she would suspect.

Tsu was simply ecstatic, hopping from foot to foot. "Hehe, thank you so much!" As the two had walked and talked, they had already excited the cemetary and were now walking in a rather large field area between the cemetary and the village walls. With little obstacles in the way, while it wasn't specifically a training ground it would serve as their impromptu battlefield. Tsu nodded to the Uchiha with a smile, and jumped ahead, setting herself around 20 meters from him.

She lifted her hand up, pointing her first finger up to the Uchiha, in the same motion she made a fist, now pointing to herself with her thumb. She cupped her hand to her mouth, yelling with a wave at the Uchiha she was to face. "I'm not gonna go easy on you just 'cause we're friends Yoichi-nii!" Her bright smile never left her face, her breath formed a small cloud in the cold air. From her loss in Kumo at the exams, the girl really didn't want lose again. There was no doubt that Yoichi would be a tough opponent, but that was exactly why she wished to fight him. She was sure that he wouldn't back down either, becuase of course, they were friends and friends, especially shinobi, always challenged each other.

Tsu out her hands down to her sides, the niceties would be over and now the time to fight. Taking a step back, Tsu's whipped whipped around as she threw three  small whizzing objects in a triangle shape of a few feet surrounding her. The girl then knelt down the ground, concentrating on the chakra transformation in the earth. Seconds later, three large vine stalks burst from the ground, stretching 35 meters high before returning to a hover a few meters above ground. They began coiling in the air, surrounding the girl on her left, right and above her. Tsu stood up and waved, the small Senju once again shouted out loud to the Uchiha. "I just learned this one, Yoichi-nii! Let's have fun okay!!" Her smile still on her face, the girl readied her stance. Now waiting to see how the Uchiha would react.

Yoichi smiled at the girl's enthusiasm towards fighting with him. Despite his usual apathy towards Konohan shinobi, he really was surprised at her outgoing personality, and her willingness to surpass her own limits. In a way, it reminded him of his own ambition to gain more power. She wasn't like the others, although he wasn't sure if she had the killing intent that a shinobi would be required to have. Konoha was full of kind hearted individuals, and that set him apart from a lot of them.

While Tsuru was getting herself set up in terms of the battle field and placing herself, Yoichi took a moment to familiarize himself with his surroundings. The field was pretty large, and highly manueverable, although the lack of anything around would make it difficult for Yoichi to set up any substitution jutsu without making a chakra construct such as a clone. Bothersome, but not game changing. He'd used rubble from destroyed ground do to the power of his Great Fireball jutsu before. Something would come up eventually, although that meant he'd have no sub from the start of the match. The open clearing was both a boon and a curse. It meant there was nothing to hide in, but it would also be difficult to set up traps. This probably worked out in Yoichi's favor more, as Tsuru was a Senju, and having a large amount of plants and tree around would put her in her natural element, meaning everything could be a potential threat. However, due to the openness, Yoichi wouldn't be able to use cover, and most things he did wouldn't be able to be done secretively.

Having adequately surveyed the battle field, Yoichi turned his attention to Tsuru. She seemed to be in her position, ready to begin the fight. She called out to him from the distance of about 20 meters, saying she wouldn't go easy on him because they were friends, and he nodded curtly, concentrating more on forming a strategy. 'I don't want to kill her, that's not the basis of this fight in the slightest, so for now I have to focus on restraining and immobilizing, forcing her to submit, before she can do me sufficient damage that I can't fight, or I run out of chakra. This is troublesome. In a normal fight, it would be simple enough to kill her, but I can't do that. So I'll be limited to hitting her with my summoning techniques, primarily relying on Kali and Istral. Although, my Katon will come in handy against her Wood style...' he thought, forming the small basis of his plans. As Kali and Istral had techniques that could damage and restrain at the same time, and most of his summoning abilities were based on restraining, that was the best he could figure, and most chakra effective. Clones would allow him to add to his numbers, but would cause a great strain on his chakra, and conservation was a must against a Senju. This wasn't like his fight with Neci, where he hadn't cared about losing too much if he unlocked his sharingan. And against the higher leveled opponent, his best resource had been to use up more chakra in a hopes of a quick fight. But Tsuru was also a Chuunin, and so he couldn't underestimate her abilities even in a spar. He'd have to feel her out a bit first.

She started things off in an interesting display of her Senju abilities, throwing out some seeds which sprouted up three large vines, easily towering over the both of them. And she revealed that she had just learned it. To most, it wouldn't mean much, but to Yoichi, it meant simply one thing; She wasn't fully in practice with it just yet. Perhaps she could utilize it effectively, but it wouldn't be perfect. That was good. Yoichi didn't have a whole lot of jutsu, but the ones he did have, he had masterful appreciation of, using others in tandem with them in order to create much more versatile techniques. Still, this wasn't a jutsu to laugh at.

Tsk-ing slightly, Yoichi frowned. Those vines would complicate things a little bit. Getting in close to her to subdue her and protect his summons would be harder with the vines there. Judging by the technique, he could assume it was a ninjutsu. And when he'd met her, she was studying medical applications of plants, to create a new jutsu, so with those two pieces of information, he knew that she probably wasn't focused in Taijutsu or Bukijutsu, meaning he'd be safer getting close to her than a specialist of those classes. But with the vines there... Yoichi focused back on Tsuru, already knowing what he should do. By rights, a Mokuton user was deadly against an Uchiha, and an Uchiha was deadly against them. Their wood lost to Uchiha fire, but fire lost out to the water. Water could transfer Yoichi's Lightning, and the earth style was useless against lightning.

Lightning would be the best to use in this case, as two of the elemental affinities wouldn't bother it much, but then again, Yoichi didn't know many lightning techniques. And since the Mokuton was out, Katon would be what he'd use. Yoichi smirked. Quickly forming the tiger seal, Yoichi ran forward, inhaling a large amount of air into his lungs, infusing it with katon chakra. There was no need for him to bust out his strongest technique, or even his collaboration techniques. That would result in more injuries to the girl than he cared to cause her, or even death if she wasn't able to block it. No, for now, the simpler techniques would be the best ones to use. Simpler and weaker sure, but that insured she'd take less damage, and he could more precisely remove the pesky vines, so that he didn't have to worry about so many different attacks.

Once he was a few meters in front of his starting position, about 15 meters away from her and her vines, which surrounded her in a triangular formation (great placement, as it kept all sides protected and able to attack from any direction with them, making it harder to flank while they were around) Yoichi released the Katon jutsu he'd been storing up. "Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!" he called out as he exhaled, shooting out 10 balls of flames, shooting 4 of them out towards one of the vines closer to him, near the base of the vine, so it wouldn't be able to lurch out of the way unless she had some way to move them from their stationary position, 4 out to the other vine, using the same tactic, and two directly at Tsu-chan herself. He reasoned that he'd be able to either hit her with those two if he got lucky, even though they weren't all that powerful, or if she were to move, or block with the other vine, he could at least weaken the third. Either way, he'd either score some damage, or potentially massively weaken her jutsu, a great way to start out the spar. He continued running forward, not stopping even after having used the jutsu, already preparing his next moves, depending on her actions.

There was a moment of silence between the two. Yoichi likely thinking of his plan of attack, while Tsu wondering how she could counter. She couldn't exactly tell his facial expression from so far away, nor was the girl ever actually good with the skill of mind reading. She could only stand guard, allowing him the first offensive, her vines carefully surrounding her the triangler pattern. She had three vines now, her previous battles using only two, and now the vines were stronger and faster. She was stronger and faster. And she had just shown her likely most powerful Technique off first. She was a Senju, so it was expected that she would use Mokuton, her Clan's signature Kekkei Genkai. But what would the Uchiha use? The girl had only heard of the name, and she was less than knowledgeable in actually regarding the history between her own Clan and the Uchiha, nevermind how Katon inclined the bloodline was. Would he use fire based Jutsu? Would it be another battle decided by her own inability to counter her worst fear? She could overcome her fear, couldn't she? She had to had gotten stronger since her last battle. If not then what was the point of continuing to fight? Hadn't she been telling herself those things during the Chuunin Exams? And then she had lost. She wasn't as strong as she had thought she was. She had let herself down with that loss, and despite still being promoted, what was there to it? She had been good enough to become a Chuunin, yet she wasn't skilled enough to even win a battle, a real battle.

That was why she needed to win now.

If she could win, she didn't know. But she did need to prove to herself that she was good enough. If it had been a real fight, it would've proven that she still wasn't strong enough to protect herself. She was still weak enough that she had to rely on others to protect her. Relying on others, in Tsu's experience, only meant that they had to be sacrificed in place of herself. She had to rely on her mother to protect her. It was because of her weakness that her mother was gone. She would never say it out loud, she didn't even understand the feelings herself. All she knew was that she had to fight to win.

Then the fight began. He moved, forming a seal in his hands before running towards her. Once he was 15 m away, Yoichi yelled out his first Jutsu.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!" He yelled and exhaled out a series of balls of fire. Two direct toward Tsu and four for both of the vines to her left and right.

She couldn't help herself, it was instinctive, the unconscious reaction she couldn't stop. For one second, she had to hesitate. She didn't see the battlefield, she didn't see the shinobi charging towards her, she didn't see her own vines hovering around her. All she saw was the fire. She saw the flames of the burning building, pieces of ceiling set ablaze falling from nowhere. She could feel the ash filling up her lungs, choking her, suffocating her, covering her insides with black, dirty soot. She could hear the roaring flames and the cracking of the foundation from the fire. She could feel the unbearable heat enveloping everything around her, like hands gripping onto her limbs pulling her down into the ashes. She was a little girl, crying and alone, caught in the hellish inferno and ready to be engulfed by the flames.  But then there was another. A woman, who stood tall, silhouetted by the light of the flames. Her kind smile wouldn't calm the chaos, her white skin already marred with patches of soot and burns. Her eyes, like the crying girl's, were the color of leaves.

In the fire, however, it is a leaf's destiny to burn.

"Mom!"

With the balls of flames bearing toward her and the vines, Tsu cupped her hands to her mouth turning her head  slightly to the right direction. A jet of water sped out, deflecting the flames that were headed straight for her as well as knocking out the ones headed for the vine to her right. The right vine stalk would be prevented from being set ablaze, but not without escaping with some singed leaves. At the same time, the vine from behind her lurched forward, arching above Tsu to intercept the charging Uchiha and quickly slam down from overhead. The left vine, too late to be moved, would be hit directly by the four fire balls and would catch fire at its base. The flames would travel up the vine stalk, but with the little control that remained before it would be completely destroyed, Tsu stretched out the vine its full length of 35 m and it would fall down diagonally across the battlefield behind the Uchiha's right. With the stalk ablaze, it essentially cut at a near 60° angle across the field in respect to Tsu.

With one vine down, the girl still had two left. With the center one already moving to attack, she kept the right she had saved from the flames to her side, now encircling herself in a U shape with the open side to the front, the end the vine now to her left and poised to shoot out toward Yoichi if he were to jump closer in order to avoid the vine.  She stay in her current position, waiting to see how the Uchiha would react to the vine that would come down from above. She had been hesitant, she knew it, but she had saved one vine, albeit a little burned, but it still was usable unlike the left vine. The flames cut through the cold, crisp air as an unlikely source warmth. But this battle was just heating up.

'Quick thinking Tsuru. Wood is weak to fire, but wood release implements water. Her weakness is covered. Hesitation on the fire burst. Previous trauma? Resolve's back up now anyhow. 1 Vine down though, more fire still to be used, can burn the rest of them. One jutsu to take them? No, suiton defenses are unknown, could block again. Ophidian Brimstone? Mobile flame snakes could be useful. Vines probably too strong for my chakra negation, physics would apply still, inertia would nullify my technique anyhow. Vine soon, incoming, too fast for normal eyes.' his mind was racing, pumping out information and processing his next moves before he even had time to move a muscle. The mind was fast, and trained as his was, he could compute information in an instant, after all, it was how he played Shogi. Always plan out the next 100 moves and counter moves before even making the opening move.

Knowing he had to resort to it, Yoichi's eye gleamed a vibrant red, and the dark tomoe of his sharingan spun around. It wasn't something he liked using, as he didn't want to grow dependent on it, but he needed to be able to see things a little slower, give himself more time to react. Even as the vine descended to cut him off, if not slam into him, and she'd moved the destroyed one to control where it landed, cutting off one of his escape paths, using his own attack that had been intended to remove her advantages to take control of the situation. If he had time, he would have complimented her. It was well played, again, a shogi parallel could be made. He'd sent in his piece and taken one of her own, and she'd taken his, playing his former piece against him. She even held one back to defend herself, which Yoichi thought akin to castling. She may not know the rules of shogi, or how to play it, but if she ever had the mind to learn it and could draw the right parallels to combat applications, she'd make a half decent player.

Time slowed in Yoichi's perspective slightly, compliments of the sharingan of course, as he took in the trajectory of the downward slashing vine, and urged his muscles to move, barely avoiding getting smashed into the ground by it. Perhaps a smarter move might have been a horizontal slash rather than a vertical, as a wide sweep had more of a hit range, although would probably do less in damage. Feeling the vine brush past his shoulder just barely, Yoichi breathed an internal sigh of relief. That would have been bad to take a hit with. The vine was too close for comfort, too much a threat. He'd slipped to the right of the vine, which would be Tsuru's left side, where the other vine lay cutting off a pathway, but also keeping him out of the direct line of retaliation from her other vine should she try and capitalize on his momentary lack of proper balance. The main downside to this was now he was pincered in between two of the vines, one destroyed, and one about to be, so dodging something coming down the pathway that would lead him towards her might prove to be difficult, and would likely take a full powered jutsu to counter it, and Yoichi's lack of low level tech would mean he'd be forced to drain his chakra quicker than he'd like to to counter.

The vine had just slammed into the ground as Yoichi's right hand crossed over his body to his left side, placing his hand on the stalk of it. It was able to be manipulated quickly, so he didn't have a large window of opportunity, and even with his plan in motion, it was a distinct possibility that she'd be able to move it back out of the danger zone of his technique, but then he'd still have a proper response to defend himself with. It was a win-win situation as best he could tell. "Summoning Jutsu, Ophidian Brimstone!" he called out, the five snakes hoped to be summoned directly on the vine, and started to jet forward, their flaming aura's seeking to start setting the stalk on fire as well, and they crawled towards Tsuru, Yoichi not far behind them, although his eyes were more focused on her next moves so that he could react easier. Despite her inexperience in combat, she was a dangerous opponent for sure, and with proper training, would be absolutely devastating in battle. She abilities probably surpassed his, but right now he had his mind on his side.

His snakes were more for counteracting her Mokuton techniques and to protect himself than to hurt Tsuru. He wouldn't be attacking her with them if he got to the point where he could. 'Need eyes on everything, to see behind me for sneak attacks perhaps. Fire clones? Too much cost, was worth it with Neci, but would be a detriment here. Kali or Istral? No, might need them for non lethal attacks later. Snake sensory then.' he processed once more. About 10 meters away from Tsuru, Yoichi dropped quickly to place his hand on the ground, once again using summoning techniques. "Summoning Jutsu: The Earth Has Eyes!" As much as he hated wasting his chakra, he needed to. Her vines were so fast he needed to make sure that he could see them coming from all sides. Being able to use the wood release meant she also had Suiton and Doton chakra nature, which meant that she could have a myriad of abilities he might need to see easier. Three snakes were summoned, burrowing into the ground, and disappeared, each moving out 15 meters before popping their heads out, positioned so that Yoichi was triangulated in the middle of them, giving him full vision around himself, able to see what they saw.

While crouched down, Yoichi pulled out his kunai, holding it in his left hand, prepared to spring away from whatever counter attack Tsuru would launch at him. She was a fun sparring partner, and truly had the jutsu to justify her Chuunin position. The Senju clan and their offshoot clans were certainly strong.

Just as the Senju’s vine slammed down, the Uchiha was able to just merely dodge the attack. Tsuru saw Yoichi’s eyes turn a distinctive red color, with a small comma shaped mark surrounding his pupil. It was of course the famed doujutsu of the Uchiha clan, the Sharingan. The girl wasn’t sure exactly what it did, but at the moment it did seem to be the only reason that the Uchiha was able to dodge the vine from above. Somehow it made him faster, something like that.

Within the moment, the Uchiha’s hand flicked out. "Summoning Jutsu, Ophidian Brimstone!" A trail of snakes with a fire aura went to attack her vine, traveling up the stalks before the girl had time to react. Her green eyes stayed frozen in terror. F…fire?! Besides being the greatest weakness of the Senju’s wood, it was also the girl’s greatest fear. With every flame, it cruelly reminded her the terrible day her mother’s life had been taken away. It had been the reason she had lost her battle in the chuunin exams, and despite her efforts, it would likely be the reason she would lose any battle from then on.

The Uchiha exclaimed another jutsu, this time snakes were summoned burrowing themselves into the ground but then their heads popped up in a triangular form around him. The jutsu had been something about “eyes” so… he could see with the snakes’ eyes? The thought of multiple sets of eyes confused the girl for a moment, but she couldn’t dwell any further, Yoichi had drawn out a kunai and was readying for her counterattack.

The vine attacks by the snakes was already catching fire, it soon would become nothing but a burning wall of flame like the first vine taken down. With what little control the girl had left before the stalk would completely burn up, she swung the vine, trailing across the ground toward the Uchiha. The movement would arc across the battlefield in a sweeping motion, with enough force to knock the Uchiha off his feet if it were to hit. Simultaneously, with Tsuru’s third and final vine, she once again arced the vine to slam down on top of the Uchiha, but this time instead of a direct attack downward, it would sweep across in a diagonal direction opposite of how the flaming vine was moving. In effect the Uchiha, if forced to jump upwards, would be hit be the second vine in midair and then slammed downwards.

Regardless of whether the either vine would hit, the flaming vine would end its arc to form small barrier in front of the girl, near perpendicular to her position no less than 5 meters away. The remaining vine would follow through with its movement and then arc back upwards to hopefully avoid another flame filled attack.

With her free hands, the girl flipped out her three shuriken. Her vines were her main source of attack, with two of the three now gone she had to think up more ways to counter Yoichi’s fire. At the moment she really couldn’t think of any, as she already heavily relied on her mokuton and medical abilities rather than offensive tactics. How the Uchiha would deal with vine attacks from both sides she didn’t know, but she was partially sure he could dodge with those snakes and those eyes.

In the end though, Tsu found herself smiling. Sparring with a friend truly was fun to do, she wasn’t sure how good she was at it, for she knew that she still battling her greatest weakness. Would Yoichi have likely figured it out by now? Probably, considering how smart he was. He was a shogi player, so he knew strategy better than anyone she did know. He was older and more experienced than her, but fighting made experience too. And here she was fighting her best!

Even with the added benefit of the Sharingan's help tracking, Yoichi knew there wasn't much he could do in this situation, without using chakra or getting hit. He had to make a quick calculation and wonder which was the better choice, expending chakra and exhausting his supply even greater, or taking a hit from one of the vines to conserve his chakra. Most would instantly think that chakra usage was better to avoid getting hit, but Yoichi knew there were benefits to the alternative that wouldn't be as applicable in an actual fight, but mattered more in a spar such as this. If he were to let his body get hit, when he recovered, it would make him more durable, able to withstand larger pains, having felt and acclimated to that one. Recovery always helped strengthen the person, and the harder pushed, the better the gains at the end.

It was with that goal in mind, that Yoichi sprang up into the air. While he was willing to take a hit, he really didn't want it being with the flaming vine, as burns were much more annoying to him than bruises or fractures, and could prove to be much more permanent as well in some cases. With his sharingan's added prowess, he could see the vine moving much more clearly now, but that didn't mean he was able to do much about it, and didn't have a lot of time to react himself. He just had about enough time to cross his arms in an x formation in front of him and braced them with his knees before the vine impacted with him. There was little denying that it hurt quite a bit, even having prepared himself for it, and his body flew down to the ground, the second impact of his body hitting the ground adding more pain. His momentum rolled him a little, and he used that to spring to his feet, his arms and legs all stinging and throbbing greatly, having distributed the force among his four limbs rather than to one body part as a whole. A direct hit to his unprepared body by that would certainly not be pleasant and could easily do him in rather quickly.

Facing Tsuru, Yoichi's face showed a small smile of new found respect for the girl. She had some strong jutsu. Once she learned how to defend them more properly, she'd be a force to reckon with, but as far as this spar was going, even though she was the one who had hit him, Yoichi was the one in control. He had been able to dispose of two of her vines already, and had plenty of means to do the same with the final one. She'd positioned well though, using the dead forms of her vines as walls to manipulate the environment while still protecting herself. Thanks to his sensory snakes, he had perfect sight on Tsuru, even though she was mostly protected from his vision by the front. He saw her shuriken that were readied. And then Yoichi figured out how he wanted to approach this fight. He'd blow up the final vine.

A quick glance showed him that his flame wreathed snakes were still around, hidden in the burning remains of the second destroyed vine, which was good. He could use that to his advantage. No, blowing it up wasn't necessary then, which meant that Yoichi could conserve his chakra instead. The vine was perfectly place around her to allow for the snakes to crawl up its burning stalks in a way that they snakes wouldn't be noticed, and even though they were wreathed in flames, on the flaming stalk they would be nominally less noticeable. Once close enough to the remaining vine, which Yoichi was only in close enough proximity to because he'd been swatted closer to it when he'd rolled, the snakes launched themselves forwards, surrounding the bottom of the vine in order choke it and burn it at the source. Yoichi launched himself forward, keeping an eye on the vine to make sure it didn't fall on him as her final act with it, and readied up two more jutsu as his snakes ringed around Tsuru, the 5 individual meter long flaming snakes turned their gazes on her. They poised as if to launch at her, but didn't move from their spots, keeping her ringed in. It was more of an intimidation factor, playing on her hesistance around fire. Yoichi knew she might be fast enough to dodge otherwise, but now she had more fire to contend with in any direction she chose.

Running towards her, Yoichi pushed with all his legs' might, leaping over the prone vine, and while in the air, launched his kunai at Tsuru, using the punching motion of his launch to activate Striking Shadow Snakes, 5 more snakes extending out of the shadows of his left sleeve, extending towards her, with 4 of the snakes seeking to grasp her and hold her stationary, one to wrap around the wrist of her left hand, her right hand, her left ankle, and her right ankle. If successful, the 5th snake would wrap her midsection and constrict tighter to pull her in closer, each snake compressing with it, to fully ensare her limbs, snakes slithering up her body and preventing her from moving as best as he could. She might possibly be strong enough to break out of it if she struggled enough, but it would be enough time for him to cripple her fighting ability in a real fight, if he chose to. He hadn't forgotten the shuriken she possessed though, and if she launched them at him at any time, his right hand had already built up Raiton chakra, and he was prepared to shoot the shurikens out of the air with his Lightning Bullets techniques, as well as to shoot her exposed joints, specifically near her elbows and knees, her shoulders, and her hips (2 for each elbow, 2 for each knee, 1 for each shoulder, 1 for each hip) with the remaining 12 non lethal and non skin piercing shots to weaken her resistance should she prove to be struggling too much. Although that part was contingent on if she was captured or not.

I... I hit him! Tsu could feel the force of the hit of her vine on the Uchiha, it knocked him back and then down to the ground. She almost couldn't believe herself, she had actually landed a hit! Of course one single blow would never decide an outcome of this match, but it was enough to give the girl a boost in her fighting spirit. It look rather painful, and for a split second Tsu had to wonder if he was alright, but moments later the Uchiha was back on his feet. Despite currently being adversaries in combat, she still cared about his well-being as a friend. She was sure that after the battle that if either of them were indeed hurt, she would be able to use medical ninjutsu to heal up nicely. Unless of course, she happened to be the one that would need it. It was a stray thought, but a possibility.

Yoichi jumped forward readying to jumping over the vine she had placed between them, Tsu herself also readying to throw her shuriken as soon as he would leap. It seemed the right attack, she had landed those vines rather on lucky coincidence than actual planning, but it worked out so that he was forced to jump over one in order to get close to her.  But just before she saw him leap, she  sensed something else.

Fire?!

Suddenly surrounding her now were snakes of flames, she hadn't even noticed them until seconds before. She look around her to find that her final vine was being swept in in flames, her Emerald eyes widening in shock once again. Had the snakes climbed over from the second burning vine onto her final one? Figuring out how it happened wasn't the amoung the girl's  priorities, the flaming serpents poised around her, readying, intimidating for a strike. Yoichi had likely already figured out the girl's obvious weakness to fire and he was surely capitalizing as best he could.

Nearly forgetting about the shinobi in the air, Tsu gasped aloud as she was suddenly grappled by... shadows?! Gripping her limbs, the girl struggled to move and began to panic at how vulnerable she now was. Yoichi really was a good strategist and he seemed to be playing her all along. Yoichi had jumped over, his sleeves being the source of the shadows that restrained her. Above them, Tsu's final vine flailed wildly in the air, a similar state of panic as its owner. Though she didn't bother looking at the vine's base she knew that it had been nearly swallowed by flames by now, her control and its power was weakening faster than the other two. Her final vine was about to fall down in flames, just as the other two.

The flames had served their purpose as distractions and intimidations, but now she needed to focus what she could on her final vine. I hit him once, so I can hit him...again?! With the vine already falling, Tsu manipulated its descend so it curved in an S-shape, falling dangerously close to herself but swerving around her in an effort to slam down on the Uchiha from above. Whether it would hit or he would dodge, the vine would lay flaming on the the ground.

To deal with the shadows holding her, Tsu tried struggling out once more. Useless in the instance, but if she had more time she could likely break free. However, she didn't know if she had the time. More Mokuton jutsu would just mean more fuel for the fire, specifically those seemingly endless flaming serpent. Her idea would even mean possibly harming herself in the process. She was ready for that, she knew she wanted to win. She was never sure if she could win, but going up against strong opponents meant that she had to get stronger herself. Something like that at least.

"I've... Just learned this Jutsu too!" Tsu yelled out, for some reason the girl had her eyes closed. Words would distract her from the flames. She couldn't look at the fire anymore, it still scared her.  She didn't know if it would ever stop scaring her. She could still feel the heat come over her skin, she could still smell the smoke filling the air, she could still hear the cracking of the wood. But at least she didn't have to see it.

"Wood Release: Sprigs Cutting Technique!" Concentrating chakra in her limbs, suddenly the girl's arms transformed into spiked wooden branches, branching out rapidly around her at their maximum rate. Twisting her arm branches around, she was able to cut away the shadows binding her upper half, yet her legs were still caught. However she realized that Yoichi had already shot forth a barrage of lighting bolts towards her. Opening her eyes, Tsu flung her right arm branch in front of her, rapidly growing the wood  to shoot out the spiked branch toward the Uchiha to counter the bullets and maybe even strike him as well.

Not all of the bullets could be countered, more specifically the ones aimed for her lower body. Hitting her in the legs, Tsu gasped out loud at the pain hitting her on the knees and hips. Her struggling to free herself momentarily stopped as well as nearly losing her balance, not necessarily helped by the fact she had just turned both her arms into giant branches. Now she had to focus on regrowing the branch she had just launched at Yoichi, and further problems would arise that she was indeed surrounded by flames and her body was now half made of wood.

The fight was starting to get dicy, the techniques starting to show themselves more, and now it was evident that Tsuru was able to use more higher level techniques, and fully capable of fighting a Chuunin Level fight. The unfortunate part of this fight is who she paired off against. Yoichi simply out matched her in terms of experience and combat. His combat situations had been mainly life or death, and because of that, he'd gained more from them. Lady Risu had put him in the thick of things. If he couldn't win in those situations, he'd be useless to her, she who needed followers cut from a different cloth. Besides that, the Senju in front of him didn't seem to possess many suiton techniques. The Senju of old were able to so effectively combat the Uchiha because their use of Suiton could protect their Mokuton techniques much better. Mokuton was strong, powerful, full of life and other applications that other Elements just couldn't match, but Fire, it destroyed life. Mokuton couldn't match Katon on its own. And Tsuru didn't have the techniques yet to best his abilities. Perhaps this spar showed that weakness for her. The stronger she got, the better it would be though. Yoichi needed her to be stronger, as he valued the Senju clan's powers, and having her on his side would be an invaluable asset.

And yet, she wasn't quite ready yet. Her ability to use her dying techniques in order to come to a benefit was proving to be more than slightly distracting, but it was in a way that a Rabbit would struggle violently after already being caught by a Snake, right before it died. It was an effort, for efforts sake, but fruitless in the end. It only prolonged what would be a sure thing. Yoichi could end this fight at any point, and it wouldn't take a well thought out strategy to do so either. It was purely out of his own reluctance to just go a simple route that he didn't. Besides that, Yoichi had no urge to hurt Tsuru, so he wouldn't just slam her with Katon techniques. She was a medical Ninja, and could heal them, but it didn't mean he wanted to actually inflict unnecessary harm.

Yoichi first and foremost needed to dodge the falling vine, so directly after his last shot was fired, he dropped into a crouch to increase the distance between the vine and his body, which would buy him more time to pull off a manuever, simultaneously throwing himself forward, towards Tsuru, forcing himself into a roll. His shots impacted with her body and her arm branches as he came out of the roll, her branches slicing through 3 of the Snakes that entangled her, the snakes around her ankles surviving purely to their proximity to the ground. A branch extended towards him, having dissipated and absorbed many of the lightning shots he'd sent her way, and Yoichi used that to his advantage. Still in a low guard from the roll, Yoichi followed through by using the leg that had a firm foot on the ground to push himself to the left of the branch, and retracted his snakes back to him, still wrapped firmly around her ankles, seeking to use her momentary weakness in her legs to his advantage.

If successful, he'd fully knock her off her feet, pulling her towards him so she was on the ground in front of him, and he'd be still in a crouch, recovering from his own last launch. If this went according to plan, Yoichi's other arm would sprout a similar 5 snakes from them, re wrapping, and reaffirming a new bind on Tsuru, away from the areas with branches in order to lock her onto the ground, while the two around her ankles would fully extend out, slithering up her legs, and body in a rapid manner, tightening once the reached her armpits, and then extend their heads towards her neck, open mouthed, fangs flashing. They wouldn't bite, but Yoichi would flash her a grin, holding them there if she struggled in order to let her realize the fight was over, before he'd retract the snakes, each unwinding down her body and releasing her limbs. "Nice technique. I don't think I can destroy it without burning you. You win this round." he would say, relinquishing his own win.

If Tsuru protested that matter, he would offer an explanation: To him, a spar was much more than simply beating an opponent. If he were to have gone up against someone and had to take them down without permanent injury or maiming, he needed some sort of strategy. He'd become aware of the fact that he could take her easily, but in doing so, would cause massive damage. There was no avoiding it, and he had to threaten her with death in retaliation if she didn't stop fighting, and to him, that meant he had lost. He would have failed in his mission and objective. She could still fight back and retaliate, his bonds wouldn't have held her forever, and she still had plenty of fight left. That meant he would have had to kill her, or maim her, otherwise the fight would be back on. There had been no doubt in Yoichi's mind at the start of the spar that he outclassed her, and in a fight based on power alone, he would beat her 9 out of 10 times with their current skill set. At the start of the match, he set a goal only he knew, and that goal was to beat her without having to threaten her life or maim her with a technique. And while he hadn't maimed her, subduing her had taken his death situation, and that had made him fail his objective. She was too skilled for him to take down without resorting to that, and that meant she was stronger than he was currently capable of fighting without actually doing injury to.
