Well, he really didn't normally do things like this, but hell; he like libraries. Loved them, even. It was one of the few places he'd never had to suffer, libraries where places that where were left to your own devices so long as you didn't bother anyone around you; places with learned people congregated, and those with education tended to be less afraid of things that weren't 'normal', many even recognized his condition for what it was; not the mark of a demon or devil or monster, but a medical condition he was born with. They wouldn't try to run him out of the area with pitchforks and fire, as some where wont to do.

He'd run across the call for help the previous night; an 'emergency' call for anyone to help out at the local library. It would seem that the head librarian was sick, and none of the usual help was available. Sad, really; he couldn't see any reason for why anyone would welch out on helping in a library, but then again, he wasn't exactly normal. Maybe they had missions, or families, or something. Oh well. It gave him a chance to be in the library all day without being stared at funny. Ninja villages tended to be more superstitious than civilian villages in some ways, so him looking like he did could cause problems. Kekkei Genkai or no, he was still weird looking to them. You'd think with how wonky some of the bloodline clans looked, he'd fit right in, but noooope. Everywhere he'd been with a sizable ninja population he was looked at as being... strange. Strange in a way that needed to be run off, or killed; as the case may be. Whatever.

The sun hadn't even risen above the invisible horizon when he set off; libraries opened good and early after all; making his way across the main streets of the village like someone that was obviously not native. He was constantly checking street signs and turning around; even trying to find such an important building was difficult for someone that wasn't used to being in large cities. He did eventually find it, and was... concerned to find guards at the door. That was another thing he wasn't used to; guard everywhere. Thankfully, the guard only asked for his identification paperwork; proof that he was who he said he was; before unlocking the door and letting him into the building. There was about half an hour before the library would officially open; so he had time to read the notes left by the normal librarian and get slightly oriented in the massive building.

The first trickle of students and such made their way in roughly an hour after he arrived; it was the usual class trips that didn't really need his attention, outside of making sure that the proper paperwork was filled out. Whomever had watched the library the previous day had left it spotless, thankfully; so he was able to wonder and move about freely. Hours passed with little to worry about; he would adjust a book here, dust a shelf there; point the occasional student toward the right section for the books they wanted. Toward the later half of the day, civilians and such began to filter in; many looking for a quiet place to study for their own schools, others returning books and the like to the main desk. It kept him locked to it for most of the afternoon, but it wasn't a bit deal. Closing time for the public came quickly enough, leaving only the ninja that had an extra hour of time before they would be thrown out. They got it because of the nature of their work, they had to have more hour because they where constantly gone at all hours of the day an night, so giving them some extra time made it easier. He left them to be until they wandered out with the final call, leaving him alone inside, save for the couple of guards at the door. They wouldn't leave until he did, but he needed to sweep and clean the floors and such before he did.

It didn't take but maybe an hour to cover the entire library, there wasn't much left behind, a few pieces of paper that had slid under tables; the odd book out of place, things like that. He finished early enough to catch a decent meal at the night market, so he turned in the paperwork and such with the guards and made his way out and back onto the streets to get lost until he stumbled across food.

Cat's Out of the Box. D-rank:

The sun was low, but hadn't set yet. He was making his way toward the part of the village where there were restaurants and street vendors; he'd had a long, but fruitful, day. In another life, he could have easily been a scholar, or librarian, and been a happy man. Really, he was well suited for it; he could be lazy and still do meaningful work really; and libraries where one of the few draws that pulled him toward civilization. If not for them, and the need to work for coin so that he could afford the things he needed; he might be able to survive on next to nothing, but he had almost no wilderness skills, so he had to rely on other people for things, sadly. Oh well. Such was life, really. For the moment, he needed to find some food, something to drink, and his bed back at the inn. Simple needs, simple pleasures.

Mreooow...

Was... was that a cat? Why was he hearing a cat?

Looking around netted him nothing, there was plenty of light, and not a lot of people around, but he couldn't see it.

Mreooow...

Wait. He looked upward, toward the tops of the buildings; it sounded like the cat was above him, now. He was still glancing around when the beast meowed a third time, and he finally spotted it. Oh, oh dear. It was... on top of the administration building. Wonderful. Given the small gaggle of people crowding around the base, it seemed he wasn't the only one that saw the cat. Kitten, really; it looked very young. Huh, how did it get that high up? He made his way over to the group of people, noticing pretty quickly that it was all civilians; not a ninja in sight. Strange.

"It's so high!"

"Where is a ninja when you need one?"

"Someone get a ladder."

"There aren't ladders that tall."

"We have to help it!"

"Get a ninja!"

"They won't help. I tried already."

"Not even a genin? Isn't that their job?"

"Yeah, but there aren't any."

"Excuse me, but you say there aren't any ninja?" Haruka had gotten close enough to listen in to the conversation, and had caught the tail end of what was being said. No ninja wanting to help? Really? "Are you sure there aren't any?"

"Yeah, they're all too busy and junk. Stupid excuses."

"Lovely. I can get it, I'm... sort of a ninja. I'm not from this village, but I am trained."

"Really? What are you waiting for? Get up there!"

"Yes, of course. Just let me pass, please. I'll climb up and bring it down." He was well versed in use of Supernatural Walking Practice; it was one of the first skills he was ever taught, as it tended to come in very handy when working with spirits and such that weren't bound by gravity. It was a simple task, he walked around the building for a moment until he found a path that would be easy to make his way up. He didn't feel like risking his skin by walking up the wall using just his feet; so he took the extra time to crawl up on hands and knees. He didn't care that it looked bad from below, he wasn't the type to take risks like that. It was better to be safe than sorry; and he had a simple satchel on his back that he could hold the cat in for the climb down. He made his way up the wall, taking a slightly longer route around, so that he was moving up onto the sub ceilings and roofs that jutted out from the main building so that he always had a solid surface to land on that wasn't the ground; so that if he fell, he wouldn't fall anywhere near as far, and had a better shot at surviving.

It took him a solid ten minutes of climbing in this slow manner to reach the ledge that the cat had reached. Once he was there, he sat down besides the feline, taking the time to let it come to him, and petting it to calm it's nerves. The poor thing was scared, and the effort paid off; as it did eventually settle down and didn't fight when he placed it into the dark satchel for the climb down. He made his way down slowly, making sure to stop on all the flat surfaces to check on how the kitten was doing. This trip took a good thirty minutes because of the extra time at the stops, but he didn't mind. He made it to the ground safely, and cheer from the crowd was not what he'd expected. Part way down the wall his head wrapping had come loose, so his silver hair and bright red eyes were on display for all to see. He was just going to assume that because he'd saved the cat, they were ignoring his oddness for the moment.

A young child ran up to him and reached for the kitten, who about jumped out of his arms toward to. A man that was very obviously her father walked up behind her, and thanked him for his effort; showing him the collar with tag that the kitten had managed to escape. Thanks were offered, and Haruka was happy to accept them, while still trying to get away from the group as quickly as possible. He wasn't good with crowds focusing on him, so getting away quickly was something he really wanted to do.
