Hikarou

Hikarou

D-rank
Mission Debrief:

Art was definitely not this Genin's forte. Hikarou was often mistaken as a creative person, simply because of his calm and quiet demeanor. These were common character traits of those in touch with their "inner artist". However, the Hokage was sorely mistaken if he believed this Chi ninja to be capable of such things. Nevertheless, a mission was a mission, and he would map out the terrains he encountered, whether it looked great or not. As he arrived at another thick branch from the previous, Hikarou removed an example given to him to assist with the mission. He unfolded the parchment, crouching on the late wood, and was relieved by the sight. The map before him was not a masterpiece by any means. In fact, it convinced him that artistic translators were standing on at the ready, prepared to make sense of the awful depictions of the Hi no Kuni countryside. And as that picture crossed his mind, Hikarou released a sigh of relief. This mission wasn't as burdensome as he thought.

He stood up on the branch he had been on for the last ten minutes, then jumped down to the ground. The first question to answer was, 'What should I map first?' Looking at the given parchment, Hikarou could see the previously mapped areas of this dense forest. He was glad this task was a team effort, each map being contributed to by other Genin at other times. This particularly region, however, seemed to be relatively uncharted, most likely due to the thick forestry and large expanse. So far, the outlining tree line, and most of the southern portion were accounted for. Also, there were a few special rock formations in the west marked. But Hikarou was in the northern portion, and needed to look around more before making any decisions. And so he fled his position to advance further into the unknown.

Every twenty lunges or so, Hikarou would kneel to pencil what he saw. Trees, trees, and more trees were marked on the parchment, along with large miscellaneous objects he saw. But everything was so dense, it was easy for anyone to get lost. So to combat that, the Genin marked the larger trees with his blood. Being a Chi clan member, his blood was infused with his chakra, and therefore he could sense his own blood even when it was outside his body. This way, Hikarou could avoid retracing his steps, and avoid redrawing the same terrain. After taking care of the most recent patch, he proceeded forward. His plan was to track out his current path up until the tree line, then head home.

Suddenly, Hikarou entered an opening in the forestry. He slowed to a halt, so he could get a better look at what he saw. It was a large, treeless, circle probably forty yards in diameter. The shape was perfect, and the origin contained one giant tree. It appeared to be many thick branches all sprouting out of the earth in a complete circle, which all swirled around each other toward the sky. The plant rose up four stories, and then split off into a massive branch system, completing its visual prowess as a tree. When the captivating piece finally released Hikarou's attention, his eyes settled onto the ground. He seemed to be standing in a marsh, which was sprinkled with pools of still water. However, the water was beautifully clear, despite its stagnancy. And to top it all off, the air seemed to contain a higher oxygen content than before. There was such a mystery that it invigorated the normally unimpressed Genin to a new level.

Hikarou quickly penciled in everything he laid his eyes on, so that he could go explore for himself. After folding the parchment and storing it in his pouch, he approached the tree, or rather clump of trees, that he saw before him. Instinctly knocking on the wood, the Genin was shocked to find it hollow. He ran his hand along the outer wood as he walked the circle. Finally, when he reached the side opposite his start, he witness an archway, just tall enough for an average human to walk under. Perplexed, Hikarou put his hand on the inside, and ducked underneath the doorway, entering the hollowed trunk.

The ceiling of the room was only ten feet tall, and had one light fixture hanging from it. Luckily, Hikarou did not need matches, since the sunlight shone into the area. He continued to explore the opening, but found it rather bare. The only thing that existed was an altar in the center, adorned with the Senju clan symbol on the side. The Genin wandered over, intrigued by the mysterious object, and noticed a plaque on the top. On the ornate piece the following words:

In honor of
Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage

The originator of our beloved Konohagakure
The creator of our Will of Fire
The hero of everything we know and see
Living on in our hearts forever

Hikarou reached out and his hand on the wooden plate, and the light fixture above his hand suddenly lit up. Now the room was fully illuminated, and he could see the great antler chandelier where the candle rested. Also, he could see worked of wooden art lining the walls that he did not see before. Though the room was small, it was truly beautiful and befitting of the First Hokage's humble attitude. Hikarou pulled out his parchment and finished marking the map by labeling it "Hashirama Monument".

Walking out of the room, the young Chi ninja breathed in the oxygen heavy air that filled the oasis. He could not believe the serenity and beauty of this place, 'I assume a unique Senju jutsu protects this place, keeping it pristine and clean. I do not want to leave.' But regardless, this finding was clearly the culmination of his adventure, and he could not wait to share it with the Hokage and the rest of Konoha. So, letting out a complacent sigh, Hikarou took the images in one more time, and then bolted back from whence he came.
