To be really honest, she wasn't sure what she was doing.
It was a well-known fact that members of the Aisu clan did not fare well in the hot climates of Kaze no Kuni, where dry deserts made up the majority of the land. While Aisu clan members were used to - immune, even - to below freezing temperatures, the same can not be said about the opposite. Their body temperatures, already unnaturally cold, responded negatively to warmer weather, decreasing their chakra supply and affecting their hyōton techniques. But here she was, walking toward the entrance of Kirigakure to seek out her former sensei, after which the two would depart together towards the Village Hidden in the Sand. It would be her first time leaving her home village for an extended period of time, a fact that her adopted parents wouldn't stop reminding her as they bid her a tearful farewell. Already a Jounin and still being babied - slightly embarrassing, but welcome nonetheless.
The reason for going ... it wasn't because of a mission. Not an official quest for the village, a deed to be done as part of serving Kirigakure. The actual reason for going was still unclear to even herself. Exactly why was she going, and why Sunagakure in particular? Perhaps it had something to do with that lingering feeling of not being at all accomplished in her own village. She was a jounin already, rising up in the ranks, yet something about that seemed so insignificant. Keiko had started off as a hot-headed genin ready to leap into the front lines of battle, but now spent most of her time as the back up medic, or helping out in the general hospital. Whatever had driven her towards her goals back then had faded away, and it was time to seek it out again. Not to prove to her village, or her parents, or the clan that she had always been wanting acceptance from ... but for herself, to find the girl willing to leap headfirst into things at every chance she could get. And when she had heard that her former sensei, the Aisu clan leader Yuudai, was also planning on heading to Sunagakure to visit the Kazekage, she couldn't stop herself from asking to tag along, surprised when he agreed. It took a while for them to apply to head out, but the day had come.
Whether going to Sunagakure really would help her out, she wasn't sure. It was definitely be a challenge - that was a fact, and part of her felt as though having a challenge would allow her to re-discover her potential.
A small backpack was slung over one shoulder, containing a minimal amount of clothing and necessities, along with a small pouch full of medical equipment around her waist that she had recently become accustomed to having with her. It wasn't a mission, and they weren't expected to be attacked, but it was always good to be prepared - something that she wouldn't have done half a year ago, when she had been convinced that all she needed to bring along was herself. A puff of air escaped her lips as she let out a sigh, the breath visible for just a brief moment in the cool morning air. She had a feeling she was really going to miss the perfectly chilly temperature that lingered over their village. Her eyes scanned the area as she passed through the entrance, seeking out the other Aisu that would be accompanying her. It was always slightly awkward with her former sensei, as Keiko never really managed to form the bond between herself and the other members of her clan. But in the brief times that they had worked together, she found that working alongside the Sannin - even if it was silent most of the time - was rather thrilling.
