“Close the gates….!”

“Everyone on me…AHHHHHHH”
An explosion was heard in the distance as bodies were flung in different directions. The commanding voices were silenced once more. Iyata ducked behind a wall and allowed the fire and debris to coil past her down the street. As the fire and ash cleared she looked back down the street she saw a large group of puppets moving down the street. Iyata frowned softly and shook her head, she was not about to allow a group of wannabe marionettes to soil the name of all good puppeteers in the world. Iyata knelt down a moment and tightened her Kiri Handband which was tied securely around her thigh plate facing outward. He traced a finger along the kiri symbol a moment and took in a sweltering bolster of pride from her village. She stood back up and stepped out from behind the wall and ran over to check the condition of her fallen comrades to find them all dead. She looked and found a communication device. She placed it in her ear and spoke, “Base, this is Spec Jounin Iyata Aisu. Squad B has been destroyed, send reinforcements to their last coordinates to reinforce the gates.”

A voice picked up on the other end that was unfamiliar, “Iyata Aisu, Rank Special Jounin. Student of Kaguza Myugen…You are here by charged with a mission. In that area we have heard reports of Puppet’s appearing in mass quantities and killing off entire squads by swarming them. Iyata you are tasked to find the source of these Puppets and eliminate them swiftly. We are unable to get our reinforcements to your location until this has been rectified.” Iyata had planned on hunting down that Puppeteer anyway but now she had full permission. “I shall contact you once I am finished.” She stated plainly. She took out the communicator and wrapped it up storing it into her pocket.

Iyata looked down the street to where the Puppets were last seen, she took off at a dead run quickly closing the distance between herself and the junction and took the corner quickly. She could see the devastation that was left in the wake of the Puppet Army. Her anger boiled over and began to drop onto the ground with each step she took. She was furious that a puppeteer was causing this much carnage and destruction in her village. She would make sure who ever was responsible for these travesty’s would be brought down as swiftly as she could, she would not spare a moment’s thought to relieve them of their head. Iyata began to follow the group of puppets down the street heading back towards their origin she would presume. The group suddenly got engaged with another group of unsuspecting Kiri Nin, tearing through them with blades from their fingers, blood sprayed the walls like fresh paint dripping down to the ground moistening the earth turning it from a brown to a bright amber. Iyata’s throat filled with bile not in sickness but in rage. Iyata held her hands up forming a series of seals, slamming her hands together she extended them wide as 5 crystaline mirrors of ice appeared before her. She threw her hands forward as the Mirrors slid between the Puppets and the remaining Ninja effectively blocking their advances.

Iyata stood in the middle of the street a large puppet attached to her back, She grinned at the puppets in front of her as the other puppets continued to retreat into the city. The puppets slowly began to move inward and began to circle around Iyata getting ready to move in for the strike. "Bring it...you worthless lumps of firewood.."she muttered in anger.

'Where the fuck is our reinforcements!?”

The voice of an obvious annoyed and angry commander echoed clearly through the head piece set worn by the group of Iwagakure shinobi who had entered Kirigakure to help prevent this seize from happening. The members of this group consisted of a single Anbu member, that being Guanyin Nanashi who had the kanji for 'void' etched onto his mask, the Iwagakure shinobi having been sent to help with the defense of the northern wall by his commander, after doing a successful eye transplant on Aisu Strafe and getting paid for it rather nicely, but that's a story for another time. Right now the man was leaning against a destroyed wall, as jutsus were being flung in his general direction by the opposition who were currently advancing towards their location.

And this was war. . .

Despite the obviously dangerous situation he find himself in, he couldn't help but to feel alive at the moment. A man who have grew up under the tender and loving care of a Geisha house with a mother who was a sociopath, which seem to be passed onto him. Nanashi lived for the moment of bloodshed and death, it something that he couldn't deny no matter many how times he done tried so in the past. Death has always been around him from the earliest moments of killing civilians who tried or had successfully raped fellow geisha members, to more recently in eradicating shinobi who dare to oppose the rule his Tsuchikage. He had always walked with death and survived. It was an addiction to him, given him a high that nothing else could give him, it was even better than sex!

That's right break the cage. . .

Taking a look at his present company, Nanashi noticed how the two Iwagakure members besides him were loosing their nerves. Their bodies where visibly shaking, tears were running freely down their  smut covered faces, the smut most likely coming from the death of another comrade who had been killed by a rather nasty katon jutsu. The two Iwagakure members looked know other than 14 or 15 and both were chuunin in rank. Nanashi knew them personally, having a close relationship with their parents and knew that they wasn't ready for what they were getting into. Hell in an act of kindness Nanashi protested with the Tsuchikage in not allowing them to come along, but one couldn't stopped another being when their mind has been made up. And thus they were one of many who joined in helping Kirigakure in their time of need, not knowing what exactly they were getting into. . .

“Fuck it! Listen up men. It seems like reinforcements won't be coming this way. So I'm given you new objectives. Void you take the rest of the Iwagakure shinobi and meet up with Special Jounin Aisu Iyata, she's in need of reinforcements and that's what you will be given her. When you get there she will be in charge of the group with you being second in command, understood?”

Touching the communication device Nanashi spoke “Crystal. But what will you do about the advancing  forces?” he inquired.

There was a slight break up within the communication system. . .

“Repeat that?”

“Don't worry about the enemy. I will handle them personally. There will be a twenty second window which should be enough time for you to escape.”

To escape? What was the leader planning. . .

“What are you – “

“Don't worry about it Guanyin Nanashi. But just so you know I'm proud of having you under my command, but it seems like my time has come. . .”

And with that the line went dead. . .

Turning his attention towards the two children, Nanashi relayed them the message from their leader. Before they had the chance to ask the all important question of what will happen to the leader, an explosion rock the area that were at.

That was the signal!

“Move!' Nanashi yelled, as all three of them took off from behind the wall, running straight through the grey smoke, trampling over dead bodies, dodging jutsus thrown at them and continued onward towards their destination.

Turning a junction, Nanashi only had a split second to dodge a hidden mine that was slightly protruding out of the ground, sadly his two teammates weren't lucky both of them being caught within the explosion, and suffering a horrible death.

Fuck!

Nanashi didn't stopped, oh how he wanted to stop, but he couldn't the window was closing and he didn't want to find out what would happen if he stayed when that window closed. A small pray was said for his fallen comrades, as he continue to run through the streets, his overly large senbon piercing through enemies throats and being yanked out as he continued moving.

Rounding another junction, Nanashi came to an interesting sight, standing in the middle of the assuring chaos was mirrors of ice, blocking the puppets on the other side from advancing towards the other kiri shinobis and his direction. Now who could have erected that up? Deciding to question one of the Kirigakure shinobi, Nanashi got his answer, apparently the one who he was sent to back up was the one who put up the ice mirrors.

Guess I should help her out. . .

Looking around momentarily, Nanashi took note of a relatively stable building, running towards it, Nanashi performed the surface turning and began running vertical, bypassing the mirrors of ice and landing to the left of the Aisu member.

“The name is Void. . . Me and my team was sent to help sadly my team was killed on their way here. So I will be the only one helping you. What's my orders Aisu Iyata?” He asked, not taking his eyes off the puppets a front of them as he waited for his orders.

A man suddenly appeared beside her just as everything was itching to kick off. She looked at the man through a quick glance over not wanting to tear her attention away from the puppets there were currently blocking her way towards her mission objective. As he spoke she listen intently, she unlocked the hands that grasped her frame and the bundle on her back dropped to the ground behind her.

“The name is Void. . . Me and my team was sent to help sadly my team was killed on their way here. So I will be the only one helping you. What's my orders Aisu Iyata?”

Iyata cursed softly and nodded her head slightly, “I am sorry to hear about your team, but there will be time for mourning to come be assured. However we have to get past these kindling piles, our objectives are clear we hunt down and track the source of the Puppetry, we terminate the source these “puppets”…”she used the term loosely. “Will cease to function and there will be plenty of people to be able to start a fire this evening.” She stated softly. This was a new one for her personally she has never been given a command of her own, but then again she has never been thrown head long into a war either, so that in itself was a new one on her as well.

She glanced towards the Kiri Nin who were making a break for it and retreating just as her mirrors began to disappear one by one from the streets. She was able to buy them all some time before the pursuit from the puppets would continue. This would require this team to dispose of the remaining puppets quickly and to get back on the trail. Iyata looked to Void, “Let’s reduce them to splinters.” Said with conviction. She lunged forward just as the puppets converged on the two, she threw her hands backwards as strings extended from her finger tips and attached themselves to Garuka. Garuka suddenly sprung to life turning his ravenous looking head around and standing onto his feet. Chomp Chomp Chomp went Garuka’s mouth as the mechanics of his body began to align themselves and began to work in clockwork fashion. Iyata hit the ground in a baseball slide sliding underneath the Puppet she was running towards.

Iyata in reaction spun around pulling on the Chakra strings, Garuka launched forward colliding with the Puppet. The Puppet responded with attempting to take a swipe at Garuka’s head, Iyata and Garuka were too fast for it, Garuka grabbed ahold of the arm that was incoming latching his foot around the weaponized arm. Garuka’s right hand suddenly jutted to the side and slid down to the base of the elbow as 5 barrels extended out of his arm. He placed the ends of the Barrels into the Puppets Chest and began unloading Senbon into its chest Cavity. Garuka let go of the slashing arm as it fell to the ground attempting to get back up. Iyata released the strings from her right hand with Garuka and threw her hand towards the Puppet. She was able to attach them successfully and with all her might she threw her hand sideways throwing the puppet into the wall beside them all busting it up badly enough for it to drop to the ground grinding to a halt it was not destroyed entirely but it would need a lot of repair.

Iyata turned her attention to the other two remaining Puppets and looked to Void as she breathed hard She reattached her strings to Garuka and turned Garuka around to assist Void. Iyata idly wondered what exactly she was going to run into when they tracked down the actual puppeteer for these things.

“I am sorry to hear about your team, but there will be time for mourning to come be assured. However we have to get past these kindling piles, our objectives are clear we hunt down and track the source of the Puppetry, we terminate the source these “puppets”…”

Will he mourn for his fallen comrades? Will he shred a tear upon returning to Iwagakure and deliver the news to the parents? Will he stand there and do nothing as they go into a fit of hysteria, damning every Kami for allowing their children to die. What will he done when they might find life pointless with their children not being in their lives anymore? And what about their leader. What would he save to his now widow wife and unborn child? What could he possibly say to them that would soothe their aching hearts? In the future what could he say to the unborn child when they asked him about their father? That their father died in a war that had nothing to do with them? That their father sacrificed his life to allow the others to escape, only for it to be in vain? There wasn't nothing truly Guanyin Nanashi would be able to say to those grieving parties when he deilvered the messaged. But there would be one thing the silver haired youth could, he could be the pillar for them, as the last surviving member of their squad. He shall be the light in their consuming darkness,. He will be the one who pick them up when they stumble. He will be the one who tell them of good times he shared with their loves ones, in hopes that it will give them peace.

Peace. . .

He would fight for peace, if not for himself, but for them. For they won't have to shoulder the burden of losing anymore else that were close to them. Yes, that's what Nanashi would do. He will walk into hell with a smile on his face, if it meant that those who care about can live in the light. He would embrace the monster that dwell within him and release it upon all of those who threaten to hurt his precious people. Hell and heaven will tremble upon seeing his silhouthe stalking towards them. Yes, he will become the monster for their sake. . .

Unknowingly to our silver haired youth it was at that moment where he learned the true meaning of a shinobi. Ninjas were people that endure. No, they were something more. They were monsters that tipped between the light and darkness. They were the ones who transverse the twilight everyday, losing and regaining their humanity upon every completed mission, and seeing their family. Yes, that's what a shinobi is. They were the gray were the ones who walk amongst the gray in the world. . .

Removing a pair of two foot long senbons from his person, Nanashi placed in a reverse grip, his lone eye becoming cement as they glared at the opposition before them, all the while listening to the woman speak. Unlike some macho men he didn't have no problem in allowing a woman to take charge. Than again that could be from how he was raised amongst nothing but women. And thus was the reason why he remained silent during her speech, though his eyes did follow hers at the group of Kiri shinobi. No words were needed to be said between the pair for Nanashi had a pretty good understanding on what his leader had in mind. . .

“Let’s reduce them to splinters.”

Now normally Nanashi would be interested in the fighting style of his comrade, but he didn't have that lecture, for no sooner had the words left her mouth the puppet a front of him attacked. Taking a deep breath, and sliding his feet apart Nanashi, balancing his weight evenly upon each foot, as he waited for the puppet to inch closer.

Ten Seconds. . .

The one inches blades of the puppet slashed through the air in an overhead slash, aiming to cut him to shreds, Nanashi shifted his weight to his right foot and pivoted on it, at the same time dodging a secondary thrust from the puppet's other hand. No sooner did those passed, Nanashi brought the senbon in his right hand up, sparks flying as it clashed against the blade that was protruding from the puppet's elbow. At the same time Nanashi attempted an overhand stabbed, aiming for the center of it's head, the puppet dodged it by moving to the left. . .

Nine Seconds. . .

Not allowing the puppet any breathing one, if puppets could breathe, Nanashi charged towards the puppet, stopping a meter before reaching it, chakra building up in his arm as he release his two foot long senbon out of his right hand, the air being displaced momentarily from the velocity of the projectile as it sped towards the puppet center mass.

Eight Seconds. . .

No sooner had the senbon left his hand, katon chakra began to pour out of his body, the usually intangible energy beginning to take on a tangible form.

Seven Seconds. . .

The senbon that Nanashi had thrown embedded into the center of the puppet, pinning it's arm that attempted to block it to it's chest. The katon chakra that was taking on a tangible form had finally settled, revealing three cat constructs standing a front of him, the air around them sizzling from the intense heat they gave off. “Go. . .” The word was barely a whisper as the cats shot towards the disabled puppet. The puppet tried to escaped but it was usually. . .

Six Seconds. . .

The explosion rocked the immediate area, as the cats exploded upon making contact with the puppet, turning it to cinders. Some might have founded the usage of explosions to be unwise in a populated area, but seeing how far the pair was from others and plus the ice mirrors, it was kind of safe to use it.

Five Seconds. . .

Nanashi appeared when the puppet once was, and picked up his senbon that despite the explosion remained in tact. . .

Turning his attention towards his leader, Nanashi noticed that she had finished off her puppet as well and thus he began to move towards her. Upon arriving to her destination Nanashi spoke “Shall we continue forward? And track down the one who's pulling these strings?”

Yes he meant the pun as well. . .

Iyata watched the events unfold as Void made quick work of the Puppets. As the fire and smoke exploded all around her, she quickly stepped back. The heat from the blast made her uneasy, her normal body temperature was low in comparison to most because of her Ice Affinity. There for in situations where fire is very abundant she tends to shy away from it, or go full force to stop it. In this case she wanted it to happen to get the puppets off their ass so she stepped back and let Void do his thing. She was very impressed with his abilities, She watched as the Mirrors of ice dropped allowing the Kiri Nin to move freely and return to their squads and retreat to gather and muster strength. Iyata turned her attention back to Void as he came walking out of the funeral pyre and, she could not but help to smirk. “So take it you’ve done this before eh?” She chuckled softly.

“Shall we continue forward? And track down the one who's pulling these strings?” She smirked softly at the Pun and nodded her head swiftly. “Indeed, Intelligence suggests we keep following the stream of puppets until we reach the source. I hope it is as reliable as that.” She stated plainly. She was not in the least distrusting of intelligence, she though however knows how much it changes by the minute. One moment the target is in a place, the next they are clear the opposite direction. Iyata waved her hand and Garuka flew forward attaching himself once more to her back locking his feet and arms around her chest and waist. “What village are you from?” She asked softly as she turned and began to run down the street. She was curious about this pyro-fly, to be honest she was surprised that the other villages were here to assist them at all.

She was not naive to believe that her village was the kindest and gentlest of the hidden village, no quite the opposite in fact she was aware of their blood drenched history and knew that the villages did not take kindly to them. She was however..very grateful that they were able to look past all that and come to their aid. The thought of Kirigakure destroyed and nothing but ruin and rubble disturbed her to no measure. Iyata took a quick right turn and began running down the alleyway, she had been warned..

“Make sure you stay away from the rooftops, there are a lot of battles and insurgents on the roof so best to avoid them all together.”

She thought it might be best to heed that warning and not look a gift horse in the mouth. After all she was not quite sure what the strength of the opposition was. Hell she was still training when this damnable war broke out.

Trust in the system….

Those words rang in her head like a crescendo, beckoning her to just believe in something for once that everything would work out. She was the furthest from a pessimist but she sure as hell was not optimistic about much in her life, her bastard father saw to that.

As they neared the location that the intelligence had told them about she knelt down into one of the back walkways and waved Void over to take a knee. She stuck her head out from around the building and was surveying the surrounding area. She was quick to spot the Puppeteer, she smirked softly and nodded her head turning to Void, “Alright there is the target, What I want to do is I want you to slip behind him and wait for me to drive him backwards. I will get his entire focus on me and push him backwards. Once he is within range of your Katon Abilities I say light the man up, he will be more vulnerable to you than to me. Puppet users are naturally not adept at fighting up close and personal and the fact you can cover an Area in fire, only works to your benefit.” She stated closely.

If there was no further debate on the matter she stood up and placed her hands together “Mizu Bunshin no Jutsu” She was able to duplicate herself 4 times making the 5 Iyata team right in the alleyway. They jumped out of the alleyway, Iyata pulled her Kunai out from her belt and the group of them stood at the ready.. “Hey Puppeteer…Get ready for your final performance…Im the only Puppetmaster in this Village…”She seethed with hatred and began running towards them hoping to distract him.

The Clones began to quickly engage and dispatch the Puppets...Iyata was headed for the Puppet Master fire in her eyes.

“So take it you've done this before eh?”

A simple and short chuckle and the shrugging of his shoulders was the only answer to the woman's question, though if she was permitted to see his face that was obscured by the mask, she would've noticed a certain twinkle amongst his eyes that suggest that he has done something like this before.

“Indeed, intelligence suggests we keep following the stream of puppets until we reach the source. I hope it is as reliable as that.”

Nanashi noted the slight apprehensive in the woman's voice regarding the information that she had received, and he couldn't fault her from having slight suspicion that the data was in correct. The art of leaking out or creating misgiving information has been a practice for centuries throughout the Elemental Nations. Often times those who did such things were cross intelligence specialist, though it didn't mean that an ordinary shinobi could do it. One just had to present false numbers, allowing it to be leak by a grunt and bam! The false information is in enemies hands, with them believing that it's was accurate. Of course there are other ways that information can become inaccurate, and the most common way is through human error. There some certain people who are capable of handling anything know matter the amount of pressure they are end. Fortunately or unfortunately not everyone is like that, and thus there are those who are likely to fold under intense pressure, forgetting crucial parts of information and the likes. Now this isn't to say the information Iyata had was incorrect, Nanashi himself actually believe it was opposite, it still didn't stop him from leaning on the side of caution. A shinobi can never be to cautious in their profession, unless they want an early grave.

Nanashi watched in slight interested as the woman's puppet launched towards her, clasping onto her back, where it seem to station itself comfortably. The Guanyin only had the luxury of fighting a puppeteer once in his relatively short life time. The puppeteer that he fault was a genin at the time and didn't possess the skills that the female beside him seem to do. And he would be lying if he didn't find himself slightly curiosity about the elegant woman, though he would save his questions for later, others things held priority at the moment. But it seem like she wasn't the one to wait on questioning him, as she did as the pair made the way down the streets. . .

“What village are you from?”

The question didn't surprise the man much, he would have expected that she would wanted to know the origins who exactly was helping her home in this time of end. Nanashi wasn't stupid, he had read all about the Bloody Mist or at least of that era that was once was and unlike others he didn't care heads or tails about their past or presents. Who was he to judge a nation for their actions when he himself will most likely commit some of his own?

“Iwagakure.” He paused momentarily wondering if he should tell her a little bit more about who he is? He didn't see no harm in doing such, Kirigakure was in war, they needed the help, and plus as he opens up he would hopefully gain her trust “Resident Medic.” those words were said in a whisper for only she could hear, it wouldn't be any good if the enemy realize that he was a medic, they would probably try to take him out first. It being a common strategy during large skirmish, take out the one who could heal the others. . .

Breaking off in a small job, Nanashi kept up with the pace set by Iyata, all the while his head swirled back and forth looking for any signs of possible ambushes set up by the enemy. Following her to a back alleyway, and kneeling down as was commanded Nanashi waited patiently for his orders. . .

“Alright there is the target, What I want to do is I want you to slip behind him and wait for me to drive him backwards. I will get his entire focus on me and push him backwards. Once he is within range of your Katon Abilities I say light the man up, he will be more vulnerable to you than to me. Puppet users are naturally not adept at fighting up close and personal and the fact you can cover an Area in fire, only works to your benefit.”

The medic in him didn't particularly like the notion of her being the bait, baiting the puppeteer to focus his attention on her, allowing him to get behind the puppeteer and take him out. Yes, despite everything about Nanashi he still find himself not particularly liking others taking extreme risks that could end up with them being seriously injured. But he will not refute the woman's words, it was obviously in her eyes that there was a hidden meaning behind the words, but for the life of him he couldn't figure it out.

“”All right we will go with that. But make sure you ain't in the near vicinity when my katon jutsu goes off, for as you noticed they tend to be rather explosive. And I can't have someone cute as your getting injured.” The last part was meant to lighting up the depressive atmosphere. One must take ever chance they have to smile or think positive thoughts, no matter how depressive everything else is around them. And as Nanashi was finding out war was hell. . .

Nanashi watched as the woman who he was sent to help, went head on into the fray, trying to draw the puppeteer attention to herself.

“Come you mist scum! Come to face your end!” The voice of puppeteer ranged loudly throughout the chaotic field. . .

Time to move. . .

There was certain benefits when wearing the Anbu armor, the main one being that it completely cloaks one's chakra signature and movement, to such a degree that on sensors of high rank could detect them and it was this innate ability of his armor that Nanashi were going to use to it's fullest extent. Moving through the back alleyways, rounding a corner, Nanashi appeared fifteen meters from the puppeteer, the distance closing as Iyata pushed the man back.

Waiting patiently and till the right moment, Nanashi began to discreetly gather chakra into his mouth and throat, converting it into an oily solution, and right when the puppeteer got into range, the oil was spit out and simultaneously igniting it. By the time the puppeteer had a chance to realize that there was another being attack him it would already be to late. The massive fire ball  impacted on the being at the exact moment they were turning around. Due to it's oil nature the fire ball was adhesive, thus sticking on the being and continuing burning the man. His screams drowning out the chaos that was assuring around them as he was being burned alive. Just because the fireball connected didn't mean Nanashi was relax, far from it actually. . .

Iyata had found that her clones were making quick work of the Puppets, She heard the little bastard in front of her yell out, “Come you mist scum! Come to face your end!”

Scum…Scum…SCUM!

Iyata’s skin suddenly crawled with hatred, “You son of a bitch! Your In MY VILLAGE AN YOU CALLING ME SCUM!!..ooooooooooooo!! so mad!” She screamed as she was nearing the man. Iyata pressed her thumb against the blade guard of her Katana with such force it shot out of the sheath. He quickly grabbed it in mid movement and extended it out behind her. She quickly and efficiently waved the blade back and forth fending off the Puppets in her path. Once she was through a few of them her clones attacked them from behind taking them down to the ground. Iyata had a straight shot for the Puppeteer. Two Remaining Clones appeared at Iyata’s side as they together placed their hands up as if to play a trumpet and three streams of water exploded out of their hands with enough force as an industrial strength fire hose. The Puppeteer hit the ground sliding backwards as the Iyata’s ran him down spraying water all over him pushing him forwards.

As the puppeteer finally stood up to face Iyata he noticed that they had disappeared from the road, he turned around to meet the fire torrent cascading down the alleyway engulfing him in its wake…”shit…”Was the last words heard from his lips before they twisted and contorted into agonizing screams as his flesh and bone was melted away by the Katon Blast.

Iyata appeared beside Void and watched the fire burn in front of them, looking to Void she smiled softly and canted her head to the side. “So…did you bring any food that we could roast?”She asked with a smile as a puppet clattered to the ground beside them. Iyata turned her attention to it for bit a brief moment then looked back to Void…”We should get together after this War, I think we could be friends…”She stated forwardly as she turned around and placed the Communication in her ear signaling the base to send reinforcements that it was clear, as she walked down the street. She was able to get confirmation that they had squads enroute. She stretched her arms upward and tossed the communicator aside into the burning flames and watched it go up immediately. She turned her attention back around to Void and smiled, “So where too next?” She asked softly. She wouldn’t mind fighting beside this man, he complimented her abilities very well…he was explosive while she was swift and had finesse. A good combo in her mind.
